Makho you are a genius! I've search all over the internet for months looking for someone with real expertise fixing GBMs, and finding you was the best thing that could have happened to me. 4 GBM fixed and 2 left to go, from Fuses replacement to this cleaning of the power switch and I can't thank you enough!
Just got a micro in the mail. One of the external screws is stripped, so I guess I gotta get a removal bit kit lol. Want to give the whole console a nice cleaning. The real question is: can I fit an iPhone speaker in it xD
Quick question. Mine randomly turns off, I am thinking that the power switch is lose but idk how easy it is to replace the power switch. In your video you didn't take off all of it and in worried I will have to. What do you think I should do.
Hey, I know this was 8 months ago, but if the power switch is loose, it might just be the plastic around the switch. Once you get to the switch in the video, just before he desolders that metal lid to do the actual cleaning, moves freely in that little housing. It’s the plastic piece around it that gives you the click once the whole micro is assembled. Check to see if the plastic that you actually touch when the micro is assembled is broken or cracked.
I just got used gameboy micro the famicom edition, it charges like normal, but the catch is it turns on for like one sec and completely shut off.. any idea what causes the problem? the battery doesnt look bloated, but the power switch is just a bit loose
tbh I haven't since I didn't smell any burning or something like it and I dont have much experience disassemble little consoles, could it be over voltage from the battery? cause it's the original battery. It works fine for first 20 minutes after unboxing it and it starts to randomly shut off in-game and after sometimes and at like hours after trying to play with it, it shuts down right before the gameboy logo pops out. It never shows red battery indicator and the blue light never flashes, I hope its only the battery cuz 😅
Hello Makho! I haven't played my Game Boy Micro in a while, and when I picked it up now, the screen didn't have an LED. It turns on normally, I can see the description "game boy" but the LED doesn't work. I tried adjusting the brightness and switching screens, but it didn't work. Do you know what it could be?
You'd need to take clear pictures because I cannot diagnose this kind of issue with only a description. I'd recommend posting a thread on the game boy discord troubleshooting section. The easiest thing to try is to just buy another LCD and swap it in.
It's a custom part made by nintendo. No one makes a replacement. It should be the same part as used on SP though and there are sellers with NOS parts for now retrogamerepairshop.com/collections/gba-sp-power/products/game-boy-advance-sp-power-switch-oem-new-replacement
Put it back in. Once the switch is reassembled, the slider and shielding should hold the wiper in place. Unless you mean the wiper broke. In that case, I'd salvage parts from an AGB power switch.
@@makho yeah i was worried I broke it but I put it back in place and soldered the metal plate after I cleaned it up and now it works a lot better! Thanks man I’m really loving your Gameboy micro repair videos I’ve learned a lot hoping you do some more soon!
Makho 🤘😎🤘 what can I do to fix my Gameboy Micro? It plays and charges well, It turns off and on, on its own while the volume is high up but the audio is very low, I have to put it close to my ear to hear the audio😢
you happen to know if a micro isn't charging that this could be a power switch issue? I changed the battery and its still not charging? Also the brightness adjuster isn't working. Do you know what could be wrong with that? I'm trying to fix. Need expert!!! :-)
@@user-rd5wj2mm8n Sorry, I don't have any specific recommendations for Micro batteries. All of my consoles are on original batteries or something that I had laying around. If you want AA recommendations though, I'm very pleased with IKEA LADDAs.
Hose the switch down with deoxit, and flip the switch back and forth for about ten seconds, and it'll be back to 100%. No need to take the whole goddamned thing apart.

Makho do you know what to do about a stripped Y screw of the housing of the micro?
drill it out and get a more appropriate fitting driver next time

Why would a backlight stop working? Got a new screen and still not lighting up. How do you fix backlight thingy? @16:24

Ever thought about doing a micro usb charger mod?
There's no way to implement it without significant modding, violating USB standards, or just dropping link cable support.
