I agree: her talent is so immense she would have made it whatever... and it is well known that her family put the brakes on hard early on to protect her and allow her to have a relatively normal childhood
I think the magic of Angelina is that she is a kind and empathetic person. She doesn't just sing, she feels what she sings. Even at a young age, she may not perceive the full meaning of a song (Gloomy Sunday is an example) but she does pick up and feel the pain of the words. That to me is the magic of Angelina and what makes her so special.

As fantastic that this a'capella performance is by her, you have to listen to her doing it years later in a studio rehearsal where she performs it in a small, glass booth with her grandma listening outside the booth. In the rendition I mentioned, you will hear so many of the unique singing elements brought to the original rendition by Billie Holiday, and are emulated in the rehearsal by Angelina.
What does 8 year old Angelina know about love? No doubt, Angelina has an unconditional love for music. The emotion she feels while singing is clearly evident and she has the talent to evoke those emotions to us lucky listeners.
Unfortunately you are absolutely right. If she was born 20, 30 years ago she will be today as big as Whitney Houston, Fran Sinatra, Billie Holiday and much more. She came to us to show young generation how music was back then. How beautiful the music was. This days to be on the top you must cross a line with lyrics, clothes, or stages full of people, lights, smoke etc. for me Angelina earned be recognized for the entire world just with her talent a guitar or piano. She doesn’t need nothing else.
If you didn’t notice, “Old Enough” is a crossover, but she included all the genres that we have come to appreciate, but she did it in a way to appeal to her own generation, but it still appeals to older generations as well. She has crossed over from prodigy to genius!

She is singing A Cappella, in perfect pitch and using all the nuances and techniques she has absorbed from listening to all the Jazz greats, thanks to her Grandma Mery. As mentioned in the comments, she does this song again at 11 years old in studio recording it for her Album "It's Magic" that has been a top selling Jazz Album since release in 2018 with the Norwegian Armed Forces band. The 11 year old studio recording video (with Grandma filming) is simply a work of art.....her channeling of the Great Billy Holiday is mind boggling to say the least. Cheers Boudy. 🥰🥰🥰🥰

In all fairness, the questions that were asked at the end of your reaction would apply to almost every artist of today. In the past radio was the ultimate platform to showcase someones talent. Today its different.
Keep in mind that there has been a conscience effort by her family to get her through school before "Making it big"... That time is now, and officially started with her EP "Old Enough". Every song is worthy of reactions and Radio, and Playlists. She just lit the rocket booster. 🚀🔥🌠👣🎶
I totally agree, if she had been born in the 70s-80s, she would already be a star. As you very well detail, in those glorious times for music, it was the radio and TV stations that set trends, if the same system continued today, their EP 'Old enough' would be on all the radio stations, 3 of her songs at the top of the billboard, I would dare say that two of them, among the top 10.
As per Angelina's official website, more than 4 billion views on Facebook and more than 1.8 billion views on TH-cam. These numbers were updated a few months ago.
Thanks for your reaction! She is only 17 years old today and from Norway. She signed with the label Republic Records just 14 years old, I think we can safely leave the promotion to Republic Record. Marketing will start when her full album is released later this year. There's only one EP with 6 songs she's released from RR now, and they haven't started marketing until the full album is released!. Republic Records know 100% what they are doing? I think a lot of people don't realize how much Angelina has done in her short life (17). FIFA song She performed in front of 40 000 people only 11 years old. She was also specially invited by Quincy Jones to perform on his 85th birthday in the O2 arena / London. And so on goes the list .... She has over 200 songs on TH-cam. The truth is that within a year or two she will be the artist for the big occasions. and not a "bare belly plastic artist" who tops a list for a week and is forgotten just as quickly. She already eats most female vocalists for breakfast, and the label Republic Records and the rest of the music industry know that too!

I can only guess, but i think Ramsey's point would be that the visual experience even intensives the emotional impact she gives us. Her voice alone strikes like a fright train. But the heart (walls) shattering, tear breaking overwhelming moments come even easier when you see her, because she not only conveys love and emotion with her voice, but with her whole body, face and gestures. When she closes the eyes, when she caresses the notes, when her signature right hair backflip comes (as an Angel you know to get prepared for the next knockout sucker punch)...

This acappella song with no starting pitch. English not even being her basic language at this time. I think that AJ is deeply affected by lyric and music. This I think is what gives her an instinctive empathy for what a song is trying to communicate... even at this tender age. She feels the music like few others do.
Sometime young kids sing adult theme songs. She’s a child. She’s fabulous but the song is for someone who needs someone, loves someone, can’t live without the lover. A grown up song. Her voice today is unbelievable , she’s so beautiful.
I think her performances on AGT reignited a bidding war between labels, giving her the upper hand in contract negotiations which she otherwise wouldnt have had. So 20 years earlier she might have ended up with a lackluster label contract that could have allowed some overconfident business suites to dicate her direction (which often didnt go well).
A fan took the audio from this a capella performance & matched it to the music from Billie Holiday's original & they matched perfectly, on pitch & on time. She obviously is cheating, having a record playing in her head! Lol. I feel bad for the kids standing behind her in this.
Appreciate the reaction and the commentary. There is a longer version that captures some other vocal slides and just really highlights her ability to stay in pitch in her head in this a cappella format. I am in the category of fan that really only discovered her about a month ago, I was listening to a TH-cam clip I have saved of Chet Baker singing every time we say goodbye. That led me to a video of Angelina, singing the same song on a show. And the rest was a wonderful rabbit hole of discovery. I am both shocked by her talent and what she brings as an artist, and also shocked that I do not hear her on mainstream outlets, I know what is considered mainstream can be debatable, but for instance, her latest EP has songs that are better than anything I hear right now and find myself compelled to look for ways to support, I don’t remember the last time an artist had an effect on me like that, but thank you again for the reaction and the thoughtful commentary, ✌️
Billie Holiday was her muse. It seems impossible that a seven year old could choose Billie’s music, but we see Angelina’s covers, and we see Billie’s influence often in other songs. I’ve never heard Billie sing this a cappella, but for seven year old Angelina-why not? No problem. As others have suggested, treat yourself to Angelia at 11 recording this in a studio. If you haven’t heard Billie’s original, listen to that iconic voice first and then watch Angelina. One take-no processing, no nothing. I agree with you. Years ago without TH-cam, She would have been by now world famous. That time it was about the music and your talent and you didn't had to compete with the empty and passing of most music of today.

I think if TH-cam and Facebook/Twitter/Whatever weren't around she would have had a harder time breaking through, but she is 100% determined and she would have busted through somehow like a bulldozer. Remember, she didn't grow on feedback; she grew on her love of music and the knowledge that she had the talent. Also her well-connected family would have made it happen 😀
Well obviously even at 7 yrs old she would understand the idea and know love in some 7 yr old way. I think she took the expression of Billie Holliday and channeled the emotion she heard. She’s fearless like that.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us. The main roll of Angelina as I see it, is to bring more people to move from “street food” to her gourmet singing. That will take time. But no doubt, she will set new standards in the future.
There is video of this performance where Angelina sings a longer version. They cut up the performance here. I only found Angelina by searching You Tube for young contest singers. She was singing Gloomy Sunday and it was either the end of 2014 or the beginning of 2015. If not for You Tube I most likely would not have discovered her.
Actually, there may well have been no Angelina Jordan without YT. There still would have been a Jordan Astar or an Angie Astar, sure… and she probably would have been a good singer, too. But without YT, Angelina's life would almost certainly have unfolded _very_ differently. Why do I say that? Well, she first discovered a love of music - and in particular beautiful vocals - through YT. She discovered Billie Holiday on YT (along with many other jazz greats). Her ability to sing jazz in Billie's style is no doubt what landed her her on-camera NGT audition. And, of course, her performances of Billie's songs in the first two rounds of NGT (along with a March 2014 talk show appearance where she sang "Fly Me to the Moon") is what first brought her worldwide attention (by going viral on YT and FB, and garnering the attention of several major media outlets). Without YT, it is possble that none of these things would have happened - or, at the very least, would have taken much longer to come about. So… far from having nothing to do with her success, it would appear that YT has kinda had "everthing" to do with it.😊 (That's not to say that other things haven't played just as crucial a role in bringing her to the point she is today.)

I think she definitely would have, if that was her goal. Meaning if she still had the goal to be a superstar without all these videos. The voice wouldn't change and her voice is gold so I agree that she would be even bigger by now without all of the so so singers that get popular more for their antics than talent.
Completely agree with you. I don't know who or what controls the music industry today but I think they are are dropping the ball here. You listened to the first 2 singles from the ep. I'm just amazed that all of them don't have at least a million views. The 4 you haven't heard are better than the others. Actually I believe each one is better than the one before. It's hard to decide which one is best.
I believe Angelina's family have been putting the brakes on her being promoted too much. They've wisely wanted her to finish school, which she has, and now the stage is being set with the new EP and full album to follow for her to break out. There's no way this magnificent artist won't be noticed! But so many child/young adult stars were harmed by being pushed too hard and too early. Her family are her protective shield and know what they're doing. We angels need to be patient. That said, can't wait until you get to reacting to the EP Old Enough!!
I think her people which is her family, I think her uncle is her agent set her up like a young gunslinger, “slaying” the greats; Billie Holiday Frank Sinatra Gershwin Sony and Cher The righteous Bros Screaming j Hawkins James Brown Adele Whitney and now people are beginning to think she can sing. I'm so glad you went back to pick this one up. This acapella performance shows her pure ability more than any of the other Norway's Got Talent songs. I wish you were watching the video, where she is standing among all the other contestants, many of them children, and everyone is absolutely stunned when Billy Holiday just flows out of the mouth of this tiny, oddly scruffy looking little girl. No one had any idea what had just come into the world of music.
Yes, a talent like Angelina (the few there are) will always break through the barriers. But the the speed will differ with the times and circumstances. I am not concerned. Had I been, I would have been more worried about Angelina (17) becoming too big too soon, than by her remaining undiscovered. Also, how «big» does one «need» to be? For keeping a semblance normality and a life with the freedom to move about as most people enjoy doing, there is much to be said in favour of being as famous as Diana Krall or Norah Jones rather than Whitney Houston or Amy Winehouse. PS: This a capella version of «I’m a Fool…» is remarkable for showing the incredible talent of a seven year old. Angelina’s version at eleven is remarkable for being one of the best ever recorded.

This is a "cattle call" open audition on a stage in an empty auditorium. The reverb is natural echo on a video that probably would never have been published without what became of Angelina during the show. She has more views on Facebook than YT. Probably been there longer. But you are ignoring her parents and uncle Mike controlling access to her. That, imho, has been the defining feature of her young life. She was initially exposed to the world on TV but Gloomy Sunday went viral in social media. Eventually she would have been discovered in the 60s, but she wouldn't have had millions of followers at age 17.
My favorite performance of this song by Angelina is a one-take recording session for her album It's Magic, when she was 11. There's a video on Teta Mery's channel Angelina Jordan Fanclub Mozars that captures a session right in the booth. I've read two such comments from you and it's easy to see what you're implying. Rather insulting. I can't speak for everyone, but there's nothing creepy about my admiration for this young singer. One day, 4 years ago, I came across one of her videos, "I'm a Fool to Want You" a cappella, I was mesmerized and felt like I was witnessing the birth of a real star, a bit like seeing Elvis Presley at age 7. I've been following her evolution ever since. As for your "observation", perhaps the reason is that there are simply more men commenting in general on TH-cam. If I remember correctly, the ratio is 65/35. And I suppose women are more interested in swooning over Dimash or Michael Bublé.

I am both shocked by her talent and what she brings as an artist, and also shocked that I do not hear her on mainstream outlets, I know what is considered mainstream can be debatable, but for instance, her latest EP has songs that are better than anything I hear right now and find myself compelled to look for ways to support, I don’t remember the last time an artist had an effect on me like that, but thank you again for the reaction and the thoughtful commentary, ✌️

Billie Holiday was her muse. It seems impossible that a seven year old could choose Billie’s music, but we see Angelina’s covers, and we see Billie’s influence often in other songs. I’ve never heard Billie sing this a cappella, but for seven year old Angelina-why not? No problem.
As others have suggested, treat yourself to Angelia at 11 recording this in a studio. If you haven’t heard Billie’s original, listen to that iconic voice first and then watch Angelina. I have followed her since she was 7, the beginning. It is amazing that so many of you are just now discovering her.
I agree with you. Years ago without TH-cam, She would have been by now world famous. That time it was about the music and your talent and you didn't had to compete with the empty and passing of most music of today.
Her ability to project her voice can explain part of the magic, one needs not be loud to project one's voice to the back of a large auditorium.
Also, it helps that once she starts singing, the room becomes silent and focused on her.

I think if TH-cam and Facebook/Twitter/Whatever weren't around she would have had a harder time breaking through, but she is 100% determined and she would have busted through somehow like a bulldozer. Remember, she didn't grow on feedback; she grew on her love of music and the knowledge that she had the talent. Also her well-connected family would have made it happen 😀

There is video of this performance where Angelina sings a longer version. They cut up the performance here. I only found Angelina by searching You Tube for young contest singers. She was singing Gloomy Sunday and it was either the end of 2014 or the beginning of 2015. If not for You Tube I most likely would not have discovered her.

Actually, there may well have been no Angelina Jordan without YT. There still would have been a Jordan Astar or an Angie Astar, sure… and she probably would have been a good singer, too. But without YT, Angelina's life would almost certainly have unfolded _very_ differently. Why do I say that? Well, she first discovered a love of music - and in particular beautiful vocals - through YT. She discovered Billie Holiday on YT (along with many other jazz greats). Her ability to sing jazz in Billie's style is no doubt what landed her her on-camera NGT audition. And, of course, her performances of Billie's songs in the first two rounds of NGT (along with a March 2014 talk show appearance where she sang "Fly Me to the Moon") is what first brought her worldwide attention (by going viral on YT and FB, and garnering the attention of several major media outlets). Without YT, it is possble that none of these things would have happened - or, at the very least, would have taken much longer to come about. So… far from having nothing to do with her success, it would appear that YT has kinda had "everthing" to do with it.😊 (That's not to say that other things haven't played just as crucial a role in bringing her to the point she is today.)

I think she definitely would have, if that was her goal. Meaning if she still had the goal to be a superstar without all these videos. The voice wouldn't change and her voice is gold so I agree that she would be even bigger by now without all of the so so singers that get popular more for their antics than talent.

I believe Angelina's family have been putting the brakes on her being promoted too much. They've wisely wanted her to finish school, which she has, and now the stage is being set with the new EP and full album to follow for her to break out. There's no way this magnificent artist won't be noticed! But so many child/young adult stars were harmed by being pushed too hard and too early. Her family are her protective shield and know what they're doing. We angels need to be patient. That said, can't wait until you get to reacting to the EP Old Enough!!

I'm so glad you went back to pick this one up. This acapella performance shows her pure ability more than any of the other Norway's Got Talent songs. I wish you were watching the video, where she is standing among all the other contestants, many of them children, and everyone is absolutely stunned when Billy Holiday just flows out of the mouth of this tiny, oddly scruffy looking little girl. No one had any idea what had just come into the world of music.
I did watch this ten years ago, and began following her from this moment on, even though i don't follow any other singers
Yes, a talent like Angelina (the few there are) will always break through the barriers. But the the speed will differ with the times and circumstances. I am not concerned. Had I been, I would have been more worried about Angelina (17) becoming too big too soon, than by her remaining undiscovered. Also, how «big» does one «need» to be? For keeping a semblance normality and a life with the freedom to move about as most people enjoy doing, there is much to be said in favour of being as famous as Diana Krall or Norah Jones rather than Whitney Houston or Amy Winehouse.
PS: This a capella version of «I’m a Fool…» is remarkable for showing the incredible talent of a seven year old. Angelina’s version at eleven is remarkable for being one of the best ever recorded.

This is a "cattle call" open audition on a stage in an empty auditorium. The reverb is natural echo on a video that probably would never have been published without what became of Angelina during the show.
She has more views on Facebook than YT. Probably been there longer. But you are ignoring her parents and uncle Mike controlling access to her. That, imho, has been the defining feature of her young life. She was initially exposed to the world on TV but Gloomy Sunday went viral in social media. Eventually she would have been discovered in the 60s, but she wouldn't have had millions of followers at age 17.
My favorite performance of this song by Angelina is a one-take recording session for her album It's Magic, when she was 11. There's a video on Teta Mery's channel Angelina Jordan Fanclub Mozars that captures a session right in the booth. I've read two such comments from you and it's easy to see what you're implying. Rather insulting. I can't speak for everyone, but there's nothing creepy about my admiration for this young singer. One day, 4 years ago, I came across one of her videos, "I'm a Fool to Want You" a cappella, I was mesmerized and felt like I was witnessing the birth of a real star, a bit like seeing Elvis Presley at age 7. I've been following her evolution ever since. As for your "observation", perhaps the reason is that there are simply more men commenting in general on TH-cam. If I remember correctly, the ratio is 65/35. And I suppose women are more interested in swooning over Dimash or Michael Bublé.
