This is the same engine in my Yanmar tractor. If it's as bulletproof as mine with a exceptionally high amount of hours. You'll be very pleased with it.
These engines are very reliable, I have seen them go well over 20k hours in TRUs. I've even heard of one that made it to 80k hours and still ran when decommissioned. Actually I've never heard of one failing with proper maintenance.
Interesting, is your raw water out is below the waterline? My first check after starting our old 2GM20F is to lean over the rail to see if she's peeing!
The exhaust/water outlet is above the water, that's one thing we always check is to make sure the water is coming out, so we know it is cooling. The boat was on its cradle at this point so we could hear it coming out

So far since 1993 it has been 100 percent reliable, knock on wood :)

sequence should be turn off fuel, then the key?..
Either or, this is how we did it for 25 years with this boat
Changing fluids -
end of last season or pre or post relaunch?

you,d be alot better served if you switched to AMSOIL SYNTHETIC ENGINE AND TRANS OILS.
I'll check into it, thanks for the recommendation
Any series 3 lube oil 15W40 is fine. If you wish syn then go for it. Been in the service and parts side of Yanmar distributor for 30 years
ROTELLA ISNT THE OIL IT USED TO BE..............
Knock on wood has been good so far
