    Phil,
    Interesting. I get to see what the difference between the MerCruiser and Volvo is. I can see that that is definitely the same engine. Furthermore, I wanted to say that that engine looks very clean. Keep us posted.

      Thanks Jose! I have everything back from the machine shop and will start putting it back together soon!

    Great videos! I just bought a 2000 chaparral 180 with the same engine, your vids have been really helpful in educating myself about maintenance. My overflow line from the fuel pump to the carburetor had fuel in it and the engine would not fire without putting fuel directly into the carb. I order the same fuel pump on Amazon you recommended.

      Thank you very much! Sorry for the late reply. I remember that I replaced my fuel pump before having to actually pull the motor and it was a bear. I think it took me about an hour to finally figure out how to do it. I wish I can remember how I did it...LOL... Getting old I guess! I think that on the output side I removed the fuel line coupler to give me more room to move it around. Putting the new one back in wasn't any fun either as I remember. Your motor mounts maybe a little different but I imagine they are very similar.

    Great info! Just bought a four winns with identical motor. Lots to learn that’s for sure. I for some reason having a hard time finding parts for it. I noticed you put some parts up under your description, I was looking for a new distributor spent hours trying to find one on Amazon and apparently you did!

      Thanks! Actually, I used the original distributor and just replaced the cap and rotor button.

    Phil,
    First off I want to thank you for doing these great videos. I just a boat from my uncle. It sat in his garage for 20 years. I don't know much about boats. But can you remove the engine without removing the stern drive?

      I am glad you like the videos!!!! Unfortunately, you have to remove the outdrive but it's not that big of a deal. I didn't do the outdrive removal/install myself because when I first had the issue I asked the marina to troubleshoot it for me. The removed the outdrive and the motor and found the problem. I rebuilt the motor and took it back to them so that they could reinstall it. Mainly because they removed it and I didn't want to invest in the gantry that I would have needed to install the engine. They had everything done in a day.

    Hi, I've seen all your videos on this engine, very good, great job. I have a boat with 2 engines the same as yours, I'm from 2006, one has plugged the cooling water circuit for rust, they tell me that it's a risk to repair it and they don't give me a guarantee on the operation, if I disassemble everything and sand the monoblock, in your opinion I'll solve it? Thank you.

      Is that what the machine shop says? If it was me, since something has to be done anyway right... can't use that engine with the cooling all blocked off.... I would disassemble it, try and assess just how bad the cooling jackets are and determine if it's worth the machine shop trying to dip it and clean it out. If you had them dip it and clean it and it's too bad off, then you are just out the cost of dipping/cleaning. If it's so eaten up that the walls are too thin then I would look at getting at least short block or and new engine from someplace like Michigan Motorz.

    Is there a torque spec on the manifold and riser?

    • @PhilFryOutdoors
      @PhilFryOutdoors  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Sorry for the late reply... Manifold is 20-25 ft lbs and the exhaust elbow is 12-14 ft lbs.
