We are in South America and have had Starlink for a couple of years. The power consumption is high obviously but I love being able to get online. We’re old and retired wandering around and don’t need it for work but for fun it’s excellent. We’ve considered fixing it on the roof and converting to twelve volts but we have big batteries and the ability to move the receiver dish is much better for reception. I enjoy your videos so thank you from Peru (this month).
Order an extra power coord and install it thru the roof permanently, use the other coord for ground deployment.. Also, its not just internet, you also have phone service anywhere using wifi calling
Is starlink worth it?..... I guess that depends on a few things, all of them personal. Are you poor? Do you camp where there's little or no cell signal? Do your politics prohibit doing business? The point is, the only way people can analyze if something like this is right for them, is to ask yourself questions like these. 165 a month for on the Fly, more than you can use internet bandwidth that works almost anywhere and turns your cell phone into a SAT phone. That is something we have never had before. I know people that stop by Starbucks coffee shop 5 days a week on the way to work. They spend more per month there, than starlink costs.
Love your videos bud. You’re very relaxed and it’s refreshing to watch you enjoy life as it comes. I also love how you capture the scenery and environment. Keep it up my friend.
Yep. Very nice to have. Worked fine all over the Yukon last month. That thing uses some power though, I'm about to find out if the 12V conversion is any better. Should be. Not having to waste power converting it back and forth with the inverter.
@@KevinWaldsAdventures Starmount makes one where the router goes right on the dish. I'm gonna set it up with a trolling motor plug in the side of the van. Not cheap though. But way nicer than having to dick around with it like it is stock. Plug in the dish and done.
I put my Starlink cable in the same place. The line goes thru to the cupboard under the stove in our Adventurer camper and plugs into our Bluetti power station. Our Bluetti is set up with a connection to our Renogy Mppt Thru a fuse bar so I can be charging the Bluetti as the Starlink draws. Input so far has been equal to output. 45-48 watts each way. We have 200 amp hour lithium batteries and usually are running at 92-100% charged. Currently camping north of Ft St John on our return circle trip up the Stewart Cassiar and down the Alaska highway. Starlink and our power system has been great. Haven’t plugged in to shore power in 6000km.
Man come to Yukon, I pay 230 a month for internet and it cuts out regularly. Switched to starlink a month ago and now save monthly. Don't get me wrong down south I get the argument but for rural and rural travel scenarios starlink wins
For the winter you might want to look into Roger’s 5g home internet. (Shockingly they have a mobile version) 60 dollars a month. 500gb of data and speed slows down to a usable 10mbit when you reach data cap. The mobile hotspot is also a powered off usbc so you can power it off a cigarette adapter instead of needing the inverter on.
I just spent 4 days at Qualicum Bay, running Starlink, we had 2 devices running video streams, with no issue. Came home did the same thing, and my home system was buffering.
I haven’t even had my Starlink for a year, and already had 2 price increases. US $120 to $150 and now $165. Also 2 plan changes which now restrict me to only 2 months of international use. Some of the other plans for boating have actually doubled. Buyer beware!
I think I'm going to get a tripod adapter for my starlink, I've used mine while camping and stuff but I hate setting it directly on the ground. Also considering swapping from the full-size to the mini because the mini uses far less power, but we'll see. Still have to get a truck and camper first lol. Price went up here in the states too, it was $150 for the roam and now it's $165.
Can u get these so u can use in house and on the rd? I see u can order both. I been using my cell n if i watfh movies it sucks my net up eventually . Onky if i sue my tv tho too. Now can u order the off grid one for both. I was gonna order ir until i move into my camper but i want to use it at my building until i leave or if im at the park in just the truck while im having a day at the lake jsut to get away from here? They are alot to buy the kit first and then im not sure if its a monthly fee as well or thats the total cost period ?
Bro 600 amp hours??? What the heck are you powering??? I have a 100 amp hour lithium battery and 450 watts of solar. I run a 24 inch smart TV, 2 laptops, my fridge, all my led lights in my tear drop camper, my starlink mini draws between 25-40 watts and I hardly ever run my battery down. On days where it's overcast, raining, snowing, I just run my 2200 watt honda for 3-4 hours to top off the battery. The 2200 watt honda runs for 8 hours on 1 gallon of gas on 1/4 load which mine rarely runs higher.
i don't think that's excessive. I have 460 and to run the Starlink, the diesel heater, fridge, induction, coffee maker, microwave, etc for a few days, it burns a bunch. No generator.
When you are retired and on a budget that’s a lot of money and that they increase the price isn’t fair either, if I had bought that and it went up I’d sell it…
I'd be fearing going over the cap. You know when you go over your cap on a phone you end up with like 14.4 modem speeds? I ponder if its the same with Starlink? I'm assuming no. but yeah... I used 50GB this morning just updating my steam library.
It's only $1 per gig after 50.. and starlink doesn't degrade the service, my 1st month of service I had the 50gb plan, I just wanted to test how many gigs I'd use on average, we'll, I used 97gb.. now I'm on unlimited
Here in the US, I got 150 GB on my Phone, 150 GB on my MiFi and 15 GB on my iPad's service. That's what I use in a month. I just don't want to give Elon Musk one dime of my money. he's filling up our outer atmosphere with space junk.
Well I was wondering how it was working out for u. It sounds like a power hunger machine 🫤. So let's say u did have the mini, would u then make it the primary internet, n knock down your cell phone plan? 🍻
My cellphone plan would only go down by maybe 15 bucks, idk I am going to revisit it all in a year I think and do what makes sense, maybe by then they will announce a 12v mini, that would be really great!

Hi Kevin, great video mate for anyone who's needing and wanting to know about such things.
❤ Take care am off to bed goodnight X X X
Good info Kevin. Thanks
❤have a great rest of your day!
The dish has a built-in heater that can be turned off to reduce the power drain, Have you turned it off in yours?

I might look into that

Check out Star Mount systems ,im using their magnetic mount, using the mini just stuck on the roof, and it works perfectly fine..
I don’t know, pretty darn expensive. Will the prices come down,,,wait and see game. But chances are prices will go up,just like everything else.cheers
Well hello beautiful eyes 👀 really enjoy watching You're video amazing
Amaxon is launching a satellite internet service. It is expected to be available in 2025. No prices released yet
Your not kidding got stung by wasp in a school yard 😮
Convert it to DC?..... bypass the need to turn on the inverter etc

Umm...no wasps on the Island?! ... please disclose this magical area. Thanks fir the review.
I seen some in naniamo so I drove north and they did not follow lol North is key 👌
Swap it to mini.

Does the canadian plan work in US and Mexico?
I believe so
