When they released Non Serviam, I said to myself "these guys will never reach the quality of this LP". Then i heard the first track from this one. And "Archon". And "Snowing still". And afterwards they released other masterpieces too. LP after LP, Rotting Christ continued evolving and producing majestic metal albums. They are worshipped from Phillipines to New Zealand, and from Patagonia to Mongolia. And i remember myself as a teenager, back in Greece when they released their first demos, laughing with their initial efforts. But devotion, passion, and tons of hard work, placed them in the universal Pantheon of the best metal bands of all time. ΜΠΑΝΤΑΡΑ ΑΤΕΛΕΙΩΤΗ!!!
When traveling through Greece a few years ago, I blasted Rotting Christ from the Parthenon to Delphi to Thessaloniki. Killer memories. Props to Greece's greatest living treasure.
I'm 52 right now and since the day this album has release it still make me fel the same way it does in 1996. So much memories and feelings, some goods some bad ones.
I was a teenager when I listened to this album for the first time. I was shocked at how these guys mastered brutality and melodic riffs, and thus way the created such a cool atmosphere. I love it! A masterpiece.
When the art meets extreme music. Each song is like a philosophical path to unknown worlds. I can't stop listening to it by reading the lyrics. Real poetry!
Ι follow this band from 1994 , for me this is the best album of RC, i still hear all the songs 27 years after they have been written for the first time and i still get the same goose bumps. A true diamond of the Black Metal scene
I was 16 when this came out. Century Media had a sampler album (I forget the name) but it had a few bands I'd stick with, like Strapping Young Lad with their song Detox, and the song Archon, from this here Rotting Christ album. I immediately went out and bought the CD. Back then it was a bit harder to come by the older stuff. I ordered Satanas Tedeum, Passage to Arcturo, Thy Mighty Contract, and Non Serviam all from a catalog called Metal Disc. I'm stateside, so this music just wasn't in stores and this was Pre-Amazon. I've been collecting their albums ever since and they never disappoint. Still one of my favorite bands! This was back in the days of shit like Marcus Karlsson's Review Page, and all those early internet sites and fan pages. It was like the wild-west compared to today.
I might have come across Marcus' reviews page, but I don't remember it clearly. 😮 Mega's Metal Asylum website was a huge deal for me as a teenager in the 90s… it had a links page to all sorts of primitive Geocities websites for countless Underground bands. Beautiful times!!!
@@SelfRighteousNewAgeLightWorker The Marcus Karlsson review page was very early Prodigy/AOL era Internet, complete with pages of text over a dark blue background covered in skulls, if memory serves. Good times.
Listened this album in the very first times in far 1997, so it was how i met this band for me, and after 25 years it sounds amazing, so 3/4 of my lifetime Rotting Christ sounds in my ears.
Lovecraftian amazing atmosphere. One of the best albuns I've heard in my life. Atmosfera incrível de Lovecraft. Um dos melhores álbuns que eu ouvi em minha vida.
Honestly, I hear a lot of similarities with Katatonia's Dance of December Souls. Great stuff! Obviously they are not quite the same but they give me similar vibes and share similar atmospheres. Love, love, love it!
After 3 cancelations and failed attempts at seeing Rotting Christ live, i will finally see my favorite band live in late March, here in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. 3 times things like covid, and bad weather have cheated me from bearing witness to seeing the mighty Rotting Christ preform. Last February I broke my neck as a result of the weather which forced R.C to cancel the show in Vancouver. As I slipped on ice. This time around, no crappy weather, or pandemic will stop thy mighty Rotting Christ from setting the stage ablaze with the BEST EXTREME METAL IN THE WORLD.. Behold Hellenic supremacy 🔥🤘🔥 HAIL Rotting Christ 🤘🔥🖤🔥🤘

This album is so great. Dark in its pure esence, it goes further than most of the nordic black metal into exploring the abyss of the soul, it sinks deeper into a warm obscurity
A remarkable album, on par with, if not better than Non Serviam. The goth metal-influenced melodies make it more memorable. I love the first track a lot.
I have my best memories in the army back in 1999 due to this album. I was standing guard after midnight listening to a cassette with these songs given to me by a co-soldier as a gift. The best fucking gift ever

What an awesome time it was
Wasn't it "Darkness we feel" or something like that? I think I remember that one. It had Old man's child too.
It was before that. "Darkness We Feel" was the Century Media bonus CD that came packaged with CD copies of A Dead Poem.@@rodrigovargas7491

Is this really black metal? It's not as extreme as the usual black metal bands, nor are the lyrics typical. For me it's metal with a gothic influence.
