This is among the most underrated metal albums in existence. Non Serviam and Triarchy from this masterful band always get plenty of praise, and their newer works helped bring them to a wider audience... but this gem is true musical perfection. The unique blend of hard rock esque riffs with a darker edge added to them, all with Sakis' awesome vocals on top. Simple perfection.
I remember when they released. The black and death metal fans became frustrated with the band while other subgenres of metal fans didn't care because they didn't care care for black and death metal. My favorite type of metal was thrash but I'd listen to everything people showed to see if I liked anything else and this album trully caught my attention. Maybe it was the last "new" thing I liked in metal overall. Trully underrated album, very creative and ignored probably because of the reason I said in the first paragraph.
I'm starting to think this one is bizarrely the best.... Almost goth rock on steroids (only thing I could compare it too is paradise lost or something), aye but fuck it the tunes are mint 😂

Την ιδια μέρα που πήρα το cd πήρα και την μπλούζα.Ακομη τα έχω φυσικά και τα δυο.Στα 40 μου πλεον φροντίζω τα παιδια μου να ακουνε πολυ μουσική για "εισπραξουν" το ιδιο συναισθημα με εμας που ακουμε τα ιδια πραγματα μετα απο 2 δεκαετιες.
Εγώ μάλλον ήμουν της προηγούμενης φάσης, cd και μπλούζα απο το triarchy of the lost lovers όταν είχε βγεί. Είχα πάρει και αυτό αλλά τότε όποτε έμπαινε μελωδία σε άλμπουμ θεωρούνταν φλώρικο επομένως παρέμειναν κορυφαία τα προηγούμενα άλμπουμ. Τώρα που το ακούω δεν είναι φλώρικο :)
This was the 1st Rotting Christ album I ever bought & it was the first I'd ever heard them. I grew up with Venom & Bathory pounding my ears but the 2nd wave did nothing for me. That was until I bought A Dead Poem. Sure it's got more melody than any BM album has any right to have ( joking folks 😉 ), but that's what grabbed me & opened my ears up for the countless great BM acts I was to soon devour. If I was to pigeonhole this album, it would be Blackened Doom Metal. Thankfully ROTTING CHRIST aren't a band you can pigeonhole too easily. No disrespect to their peers, but in my opinion ROTTING CHRIST are by far the greatest Metal band to come from the ancient shores of Greece 🤘

Dead poem, sleep of the angels, even kronos a bit. Can still bring that tremendously beautiful feeling this Rotting christ era was exuding. Wish to see the band perform these albums live again from first to very last second.
I disagree. IMO the best era includes everything from Triarchy of the Lost Lovers up to Sanctus Diavolos. Dead Poem is generally great, but lacks that one song that rocks my socks off - Among Two Storms is the closest but it's second track, and after that album became softer and softer. Triarchy of the Lost Lovers is a little like a Dead Poem - slightly worse, but generally good. Sleep of the Angels feels just too soft and monotonous - but has something that Dead Poem and Triarchy lasts - THAT one song, wchich also happens to be the last one - Thine is the Kingdom saves this album from being entirely forgettable. Khronos is a step back to Black Metal roots which is IMO a step in good direction, but we're not here yet, few songs are great tho. Finally Genesis and Sanctus Diavolos are the albums that has everything - melody, solos, lyrics, kickass songs (with Doctrine which feels like it's every RC song mashed into one), and great summarizing songs: Under the Name of Legion and Sanctus Diavolos.

Incredible creativity, flow and cohesion. This album is like one big deeply thought out, well written and performed song. Rotting Christ at their peak, no doubt about it.
This was my first album of Rotting Christ (what a guitar work!!!). This album and his direct brother "Sleep of the Angels" are true gems. In their last works, they are more focused on the atmospheres and the arrangements and they have forgotten that they were true cracks in the handling of their guitars. A real shame, but (and this is in case they're reading me) it's never too late to get back to the way. Long live Rotting Christ, one of my most aprecciated bands. OSMÜGA
So many memories listening to this when it came out. Taking everything into consideration, I still think the Tolis brothers are the greatest gift Greece has given the world. Proudly wear my NON SERVIAM tattoo, these guys will always have a special place in my heart

I've always loved the cover of this album. But it's funny because in the biography I'm reading now, it talks about how the cover was kind of a hack job done by the label using Photoshop and wasn't really designed by the band themselves. Still, despite that, I've always loved the cover. Especially the pages in the booklet with that brass/bronze color motif.

I've listened to the most recent RT records and I have to say the sound of A Dead Poem took me by surprise, although in a positive way. As a black metal fan, this sounds gorgeous! So melodic and dark at the same time!

Για μας τους παλιους οι r.c ηταν μεχρι και αυτο το αλμουμ αγαπητε, ενα αριστουργημα πολυ κοντα στο προηγουμενο .....of the lost lovers, σε αυτο το αλμπουμ κλειδωσε το παλιο ακουσμα των R.C, κριμα ομως αυτη ειναι η πραγματικοτητα , τουλαχιστον για μενα!
Έτσι είναι ρε φίλε...Και εγώ πάντα τη ''σνόμπαρα' αυτή τη σκηνή.. αλλά όταν άκουσα αυτό το δίσκο έπαθα πολύ μεγάλη ζημιά! Πλέον είναι από τις πιο αγαπημένες μου μπάντες!
Descubrí a Rotting Christ tarde, en mi casa lo más metalero que se escuchaba era Queen, mis compañeros de escuela peor, cumbia escuchaban, las tendencias en los canales de musica iban de mediocres para abajo. Asi que musicalmente me tuve que educar sólo. Leyendo la revista Madhouse descubrí a Rotting Christ, Cradle Of Filth, Satyricon, Mortiis y otras más. Me hubiera gustado conocer Rotting Christ cuando tenia 12 años pero en fin... Saludos desde Argentina!!!!
@@MaximaMiluska Muy cierto, por eso algumas bandas no vienen, porque no venden. Rotting Christ iba a venir en 2010 o 20111, no recuerdo bien y cancelaron el concierto por falta de ventas. Angeles del infierno hizo un tour en latinoamerica, tocaron en muchos paises y a la Argentina no vinieron. Alice Cooper en 2007 iba a hacer 2 obras y una función en Córdoba, la de Córdoba la canceló, de las 2 restantes; una la canceló y la otra postergo la fecha y cambió el lugar: terminó haciendo un Gran Rex. El por qué de todo ésto: no hay oyentes... Un saludo!!!

Bandas como por ejemplo Heart, Bad Religion, Warlock, Sarcofago, Obús y una vergüenza que lo diga: Deep Purple. Todavia sigo descubriendo bandas a mis 35. Un saludo!!!!
Yeah! This album is really perfect! I couldn't comprehend all greatness of this album when I listened it аt the first time. It seemed too heavy for me. I didn't like а сlamant vocal of Sakis but I always remembered impressive guitars, drums аnd keyboard passages. And now after many years l understand that l was wrong. Now every time I'm listening this I'm immersed in deep thoughts about ancient Greek gods and warriors... Especially "Ten miles high" and "Ira incensus" are just masterpieces! Bravo, Rotting Christ!

I still prefer their first EP "Passage to Arcturo" but i must admit that "Among two storm" feat. Fernando from Moonspell, is a very great song.

Sleep of the Angels feels just too soft and monotonous - but has something that Dead Poem and Triarchy lasts - THAT one song, wchich also happens to be the last one - Thine is the Kingdom saves this album from being entirely forgettable. Khronos is a step back to Black Metal roots which is IMO a step in good direction, but we're not here yet, few songs are great tho. Finally Genesis and Sanctus Diavolos are the albums that has everything - melody, solos, lyrics, kickass songs (with Doctrine which feels like it's every RC song mashed into one), and great summarizing songs: Under the Name of Legion and Sanctus Diavolos.

Incredible creativity, flow and cohesion. This album is like one big deeply thought out, well written and performed song. Rotting Christ at their peak, no doubt about it.

This was my first album of Rotting Christ (what a guitar work!!!). This album and his direct brother "Sleep of the Angels" are true gems. In their last works, they are more focused on the atmospheres and the arrangements and they have forgotten that they were true cracks in the handling of their guitars. A real shame, but (and this is in case they're reading me) it's never too late to get back to the way. Long live Rotting Christ, one of my most aprecciated bands. OSMÜGA
So many memories listening to this when it came out. Taking everything into consideration, I still think the Tolis brothers are the greatest gift Greece has given the world.

I've always loved the cover of this album. But it's funny because in the biography I'm reading now, it talks about how the cover was kind of a hack job done by the label using Photoshop and wasn't really designed by the band themselves. Still, despite that, I've always loved the cover. Especially the pages in the booklet with that brass/bronze color motif.
Do you have any idea who is the person on the cover? I guess it must be some guy from Greek mythology

I've listened to the most recent RT records and I have to say the sound of A Dead Poem took me by surprise, although in a positive way. As a black metal fan, this sounds gorgeous! So melodic and dark at the same time!

Είμαι παλιός ροκάς, πανκάς, καμία σχέση με μπλακ μέταλ.. Και αυτό που έχω να πω, στα 46 μου πλέον, είναι ότι το "a dead poem" είναι ένα πραγματικό διαμάντι!
Για μας τους παλιους οι r.c ηταν μεχρι και αυτο το αλμουμ αγαπητε, ενα αριστουργημα πολυ κοντα στο προηγουμενο .....of the lost lovers, σε αυτο το αλμπουμ κλειδωσε το παλιο ακουσμα των R.C, κριμα ομως αυτη ειναι η πραγματικοτητα , τουλαχιστον για μενα!
Έτσι είναι ρε φίλε...Και εγώ πάντα τη ''σνόμπαρα' αυτή τη σκηνή.. αλλά όταν άκουσα αυτό το δίσκο έπαθα πολύ μεγάλη ζημιά! Πλέον είναι από τις πιο αγαπημένες μου μπάντες!
Ότι καλύτερο έχει βγάλει η χωρα μας έως σήμερα

Descubrí a Rotting Christ tarde, en mi casa lo más metalero que se escuchaba era Queen, mis compañeros de escuela peor, cumbia escuchaban, las tendencias en los canales de musica iban de mediocres para abajo. Asi que musicalmente me tuve que educar sólo. Leyendo la revista Madhouse descubrí a Rotting Christ, Cradle Of Filth, Satyricon, Mortiis y otras más. Me hubiera gustado conocer Rotting Christ cuando tenia 12 años pero en fin... Saludos desde Argentina!!!!

@@MaximaMiluska Muy cierto, por eso algumas bandas no vienen, porque no venden. Rotting Christ iba a venir en 2010 o 20111, no recuerdo bien y cancelaron el concierto por falta de ventas. Angeles del infierno hizo un tour en latinoamerica, tocaron en muchos paises y a la Argentina no vinieron. Alice Cooper en 2007 iba a hacer 2 obras y una función en Córdoba, la de Córdoba la canceló, de las 2 restantes; una la canceló y la otra postergo la fecha y cambió el lugar: terminó haciendo un Gran Rex. El por qué de todo ésto: no hay oyentes...

@@nosferatuthevampy Ok. Pasa que estuve concentrado en algunas bandas y descuide de otras que las conocía de nombre pero no les habia prestado atención. Bandas como por ejemplo Heart, Bad Religion, Warlock, Sarcofago, Obús y una vergüenza que lo diga: Deep Purple. Todavia sigo descubriendo bandas a mis 35.

Yeah! This album is really perfect! I couldn't comprehend all greatness of this album when I listened it аt the first time. It seemed too heavy for me. I didn't like а сlamant vocal of Sakis but I always remembered impressive guitars, drums аnd keyboard passages. And now after many years l understand that l was wrong. Now every time I'm listening this I'm immersed in deep thoughts about ancient Greek gods and warriors... Especially "Ten miles high" and "Ira incensus" are just masterpieces! Bravo, Rotting Christ!
