    "This isn't even really a fair competition."
    You're right. You're disqualified and you lose.
    You made streudel, not toaster streudel. The shit store ones, shitty as they are, are already made and frozen, ready to be popped into a toaster and ready to eat in minutes any time, at a moment's notice. You baked fresh, delicious, fluffy, amazing streudel. But not toaster streudel. You can't just have yours in a couple minutes.
    So technically a loss.
    But god damn those look so fucking good.

    • @voltage7358
      @voltage7358 3 ปีที่แล้ว +51

      Lmaoo facts, is he supposed to make something thinner that can be frozen then toasted? It’s a lot harder to toast “real” puff pastry, too flakey.

    • @samsus4944
      @samsus4944 3 ปีที่แล้ว +27

      "You can't just have yours in a couple minutes".
      The first time that you make your batch of anything homemade you have to go through the whole baking process.
      Definitely not in a toaster, but then you can re-heat them later in a pan when you want more.
      It would be interesting if he later makes something to be re-heated in a toaster.

      I mean, if your main metric for wins and losses is how long it takes to make from scratch, versus the fast food/frozen version, Josh can't ever win. The point is to make the thing the best version it could possibly be, not prepared in the same amount of time

    • @MWDoom
      @MWDoom 3 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      @@michaelplaysbass the main metric is "is this a reasonable but better replacement for the item being compared against" and it fails the "toaster" metric where you can take your cooked, now frozen, toaster strudel and out it in the toaster to get a hot pastry in a few minutes.

      @Bruce Wayne Yeah, I found the lack of toaster use on his toaster strudel kinda disappointing. The product is a quick convenience product, you get from the fridge, heat and eat. So why don't make something like that? A gourmet strudel that you could freeze and then just pop it out. Because let me tell you, his would simply die if you try to froze and defrost. There's a lot of science that goes into the food industry, and that's the point he is missing here

Never in his life is any of these ever meant to be convenient, because that would defeat the purpose of needlessly (yes, even by his admission) elevating fast food favorites as much as possible. Where do you get off with your confusion, wanting easy recipes or some bs?

      @Mezmorizorz 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@stephensmith4025 Yeah, I had a toaster strudel for the first time in forever yesterday, and it made me realize this entire video is just ridiculous. I'm not sure what pillsbury does in the baking process to make them not puff up so they fit in toasters, but toaster strudels are quite clearly puff pastry filled with jam that comes with a basic frosting. This is incredibly obvious if you reheat them slowly in an oven and not a toaster. He's free to like his own fillings more than the pillsbury ones I guess, but don't make this recipe and expect an epiphany or even something remarkable. These are fat toaster strudels. Very reminiscent of the cinnabon episode where he made cinnabons but he got a bad box and declared himself the winner even though he used the same recipe they do.
      Which leads me to another pet peeve with his videos. Things that are simple to make are not actually better homemade. You want to know how smuckers makes grape jam? They macerate concord grapes, heat them, and use citric acid rather than lemon juice to balance the pH. Extra steps in a process are expensive. Companies don't just do things because they can. You can tailor the taste of homemade things more, sure, but by and large the food you buy in stores is just food.

      I agree, and that's where I wouldn't mind him shifting the focus of this series at some point. I don't think any of us questions that we can make something better than toaster strudel or McDonald's lol
      The point of these is the ease of which they are made or cheaply consumed. Although I feel like this episode was still a good show of that ideology because honestly, yeah this wouldn't be like a "still asleep while getting ready for work breakfast" but it is a good example of being able to take this concept (minus toaster) and making it better really easily, and not to expensive either. Most of what was used in the video is kitchen staples and the most expensive thing was probably the fruit (and the alcohol if you don't already have some for the apple recipe). I think trying to keep the but better option on the simple and cheap side would be a great focus for these, instead of going over the top like he does in some of the episodes, although it is cool to see what can be done to the same concept regardless and I love watching them :)

    I don't think this is a win. You made a strudel, not a toaster strudel. One of the best parts about toaster strudel is how you have the convenience of popping it in the toaster. I think to make that possible they par cook the pastry on a flat top, which is also why it gets less fluffy than a traditional strudel because cooking it on a flat top solidifies some of the layers of pastry together. You mentioned how you went so far above and beyond, but I think you just made something completely different.

    The recipe is pretty good but to qualify as a Toaster Strudel it should be cooked in a toaster. I don't think this method would allow that to be done. Perhaps doable by part cooking the strudels in the oven and then freezing the undercooked strudel?

    I'm disappointed. You made strudel, not something designed to be cooked in a toaster from frozen.

    Never try to recreate the perfection of pilsbury toaster strudel. There’s a reason nobody eats homemade toaster strudels........it’s cause they’re not as good😤😂😂

    Okay, but can you toast in the toaster? I forgive ignoring the convenience of mass produced fast foods and such, but it's a 'toaster' strudel! Guess I'll need to get a toaster oven for these haha

    I looked away for a spilt second after he finished making the pastry part, then when he was about to start the frosting or whatever, it cut to an ad, which of course I didn't notice, and I just see a cow walking across the screen and someone talking about it, and I was like, Bro???

    this is a strudel... the whole point of a toaster strudel is that you can stick it in a toaster... i hate to say it but they got you beat there
