    It would be good to do a "reset" on the powercreep. But I really am not sure how the best way to go on about this would be, it sounds really complicated.

      How to "reset" power creep: Make a new format. You can't keep the cards from current Standard in rotation or they will outshine any new cards created. So you rotate all of current Standard or you make a new format that uses older/weaker expansions.

      HOLD IT! You only need 200 dust to craft both copies of this card. And considering that when rotation happens the dust it creates will increase, this guarantees return of investment, that isn't the case with dust, runes or real-world money.

    How to deal with power creep: don't make Titans, Colossals, Hero cards and Quests so insanely overpowered. They might sell well but they alone lift the bar of playable cards too high.

    I was fully expecting one of the twist formats to force players to include a certain number of cards from the newest pack (like in the pre-release streams). This way if a card isn't powerful enough for standard, it could see play in twist. Could have been a way to address the power creep.
    They could even let players put in 5-10 wild cards if they want dedicated players to spend dust without alienating the mode.

    Thanks for another wonderful video. I'm wondering if you can shed light on the best way to open packs as it relates to "guaranteed legendaries;" that is, after a certain number of packs without receiving a legendary card, the game makes sure you get one. I have had a number of standard packs in my queue (from XP, etc.) alongside packs I have purchased (usually Badlands or Titans packs, in this case). Twice now, I have opened the standard packs first and received a legendary - only to have my other packs contain none. Are the "guaranteed legendaries" shared across all pack types, or are they specific to each expansion and I have just gotten unlucky? I didn't want to open the Badlands packs first, for example, if I'm still counting toward my "quota" and then end up with a legendary from the Standard packs. But it seems it has worked against me in the very way I did not want it to. Hope that isn't too confusing.

    • @HearthstoneMathematics
      @HearthstoneMathematics  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +11

      You're out of luck :] Each pack type has its own pity timer. If you received a legendary card in the Standard pack, this will not affect the chance of receiving a legendary card in the Titans packs.

Titans 80%~, Sunken City 40%~, and then later expansions 38%~ or less of completion rate. Buyed Titans Mini Set.
    I'm vary tempted on buying Catch up packs + Newer expansion set with gold, but also i was wondering about starting building more decks for wild format on Priest and Hunter Class. I would very grateful if you and recommend me a certain course of action.

    It genuinely needs an over haul. I've left standard and begun getting disengaged since and expansion or two ago. This is the first expansion I haven't even wasted gold on.
    The lack of tools to encourage versatility is the biggest issue. The ladder is predictable and set by net decking, it's a game of rock, paper, scissors because the devs insist on making something with limited flexibility that has too big a focus on synergy. You're either aggro and cheating small cards, scaling in a time window for mid game or combo decking.
    Theres no fun when a strategy game has no strategic variation. You know when you see even an opposition player class, what deck they're playing and whether you can beat it the moment you see their opening hand.
    It has no potential for fun, no variety, people got bored, and bored watching people play.
    Power creep isn't the problem, it's a symptom of overly restrictive design thats added too much flavour to keep people's interest expansion after expansion. You need to change the battlefield itself. It's not going stale, it dead and needs a ground up overhaul with some vision.

    • @KnownAsKenji
      @KnownAsKenji 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I'd like to add that Yogg (Titans miniset) and Jailer (Nathria miniset) are currently still Refundable for 1600 dust each, an oversight devs have been making lately, so as of right now I would say those minisets are great Dust value, even though Nathria is rotating in a couple of months.
      (if you read this later, make sure you double-check the Refund status before purchase, since it's an oversight there's no telling when they might be taken off)

    • @spidermain
      @spidermain 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Defense attorney nathanos is also refundable from the Nathria miniset in addition to the jailer, so you can spend 2000 gold and immediately get 3200 dust.

  • @cowabungee2310
    @cowabungee2310 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    Maybe you guys should take into account the refund value of recently nerfed cards as freebies in terms of set usefulness. For example in maw and disorder you said Sylvanas is the only useful legendary but at this moment in time both The Jailer and Nathanos are disenchantable for full dust value, making 3/4 of the legendaries useful by making two of them basically a legendary of your choice.

    • @epicfailninjadude

  • @epicfailninjadude

    As of the moment, isn't the Nathria mini-set worth it since 2 of the legendaries offered offer full dust refund?

    • @HearthstoneMathematics
      @HearthstoneMathematics  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Taking into account the possibility of destroying two cards at full cost, The Benefit Factor for the Maw and Order mini set is 314 dust for every 100 gold coins. Add this result to the final table and you will see that this offer will not bring the greatest benefit, but it will be slightly more profitable than collecting common cards from the Titans Expansion. But first of all, you should collect all the common cards for the Badlands expansion.

    • @epicfailninjadude
      @epicfailninjadude 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for the mathematical breakdown. From the perspective of an average player without data, the mini-set already felt justified after the Jailer nerf--which was when I bought it. The Nathanos change and Order in the Court nerf was just icing on the cake for me. And now, it feels like I bought "Two of any legendary and two of any rare"+Sylvanas. Good to know that while not the most economic action, it was still relatively profitable.
      On a tangential note, I would love to know on a general basis how card reworks change the dust value of mini-sets. Like "How many changed cards (in addition to useful cards) does a mini-set need to be valuable.". I understand that the topic itself might not warrant a full video but I wonder if you can touch on it for future videos. Thanks for the content and stay safe. As a f2p player, they really help.

    All of this depends on players judging which cards are gonna see play and which not. Good luck with that. Even pro players aren't that good at predicting the meta game. And honestly Hearthstone is cheaper than it has ever been. If you just buy the prerelease bundle and spend the gold you've collected since the last release on packs (plus any minisets, adventures etc) you're pretty much set to have have every single card you'll need to play all 11 classes.

    • @HearthstoneMathematics
      @HearthstoneMathematics  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hello. You have several scenarios. You can follow the final table from the video when purchasing packs. This will help you get the maximum number of useful cards for your gold. The second scenario is to accumulate gold for the next expansion. Create yourself 1-2 decks for the current meta game and save your resources to buy packs of the new set. The best way to adapt to the game is time. Your collection will expand quite quickly, thanks to Duplicate Protection in packs. It will take you some time to adapt, but the game is much friendlier than ever.

    I think people get too fixated on making a boogeyman out of the concept of power creep when in the end, it’s as inevitable and natural as the sun rising and setting.
    It’s a digital card game, you have so many advantages to ensure that people don’t feel frustrated by bad card design and hearthstone at times seems to forget this or simply doesn’t know how to use their advantages effectively or they’re comprised because of other goals in mind (monetization)

      It can be a good strat, with the odds per cost for getting a Legendary in the first 10 being comparable to getting a Legendary in 40 Normal packs. But it's very low on the priority list, you get less Epics overall this way, it's only something that someone with a very good collection looking for extra Dust should do.
