I'm currently bidding on an example of this lens, and thought I'd check some of the results on TH-cam. My initial thought is, does this appear soft at all focal lengths? Maybe its just my specs, but it looks somewhat soft. It makes my vintage Minolta MC 50mm 1.4 look tack-sharp.
I wouldn't judge a lens based on my video alone.... That nifty fifty is going to shame many lenses so don't involve a prime versus a multi-focal length lens. That's a purely apples/oranges comparison. I urge you to check out Kurt Munger's site (in the description) to give you a better basis to evaluate. My example is pretty darn sharp (some of which doesn't translate to TH-cam via rendering and uploading). Good luck with the auction! And I want one of those 50mm lenses too!
@@CoriolisAffectment Good to hear, that your results are still good according to what you see. Indeed, maybe the translation to TH-cam is giving me inferior results. Nevertheless, my bid checked this morning, is still the highest, and if I win, $50 would be a bargain for this lens. Also, checked out Kurt's study of this lens, it is very comprehensive, and defines the attributes and detractions concerning this lens, which will make the lens more appreciative if it falls into my hands. I'm realizing that owning a vintage lens is not purely about the sharpness, but incorporation of other qualities that make the lens desirable. Thanks for the info
You're welcome. I believe there's real magic in those old Minolta lenses and discovering that those sorts of things is what makes this hobby so fascinating. Yes, and sharpness alone isn't the be all and end all either. Photography can instill romance and emotion and searching for that, I believe, is what makes us photographers.
I use a cage from Smallrig. But...! They may have redesigned the cage! So... I will check, but can't immediately as my family is having some difficulty that has to be dealt with. However, I will keep your comment in mind as I want to upgrade my cage and or camera body at some point too without losing the ability to use the lens adapter.
Today I just bought Minolta lens that's .. 70 - 210 mm , Micro 1: 4.5 manual lens MD Zoom for $ 12 at Value Village , Hope it fits my Minolta Maxima 5000 , its half the length and it has a rubberized Barrel checkered , Don't forget back-in-the-day Minolta had the contract to make Leica camera lenses , If you compare Nikon Canon , back in the day in the 80s Minolta lenses had the fastest focussing lenses
Oh nice! I just ordered the same 70-210mm lens. I have an a6000 with the same cage and grip. It's so nice now that i can have a better grip on it. It seems that the 75-300mm is a lot more expensive than the smaller lens. $120 compared to $40. I'm thinking of picking up the Minolta 75-300mm in the smaller and I guess newer version, called the Maxxum.
I think it was called the 'RS' for 'Restyled' anyway here the reviews for it: www.dyxum.com/reviews/lenses/Minolta-AF-75-300mm-F4.5-5.6-New_review53.html in case you haven't seen it already. Yeah, I kind of got mine before the interest rose too much.... There's really something magical about these old Minoltas. :)
yep, it sounds like a good plan; planned to get myself a A99 last year, as a upgrade from my 55 but the price's still out of my reach. There was a A77 which was worth it, not full-frame but the sensor and all the rest are an improvement. About sony lenses, well I found a 16-105, it makes good photos for sure but it's really fragile, plastic stuff. I'm cautious with my gear but at this point the focus ring's mechanics fell apart inside, I had to get it fixed, costed me a hundred euros. So yeah avoid Sony glasses, Dyxum has a huge list of compatible autofocus lenses of all brands, but if you can find a decently priced A99 or whatever new model they released it might be a good investment. I'm not much in photo since I work on 2D and some 3D animation, but it's still something I like to do.
I meant e-mount full frame, sorry. I find the e-mount lenses and the whole mirrorless revolution to be very interesting. It's like how the early computer days used to be...lot's of advances in asics, sensors, coatings...even user interfaces; unfortunately it's difficult to keep up with everything. Best to choose a place and learn the craft of seeing. ;)
I use 6 Minolta AFs including the 70-210 F4 on my ff Sony A850 and also on my A390 APS-C. There's some chromatic aberation on this lens so I rarely use it wide open. Both low shutter count 15 y.o. cameras & lenses cost less than CAD$1000.
Oh absolutely! Look for a Series 1 Vivitar 70-210mm. You'll find that's pretty good to work with. Check the following site to find out the good versions: www.robertstech.com/vivitar.htm They show up on Ebay all the time. Good Luck.
It's edgier than your previous work - it's got pop - tension. Personally I prefer your more intimate work, but this video probably better suits the current zeitgeist.
Thanks. Is it just this videos or all of mine? I'll point out that your comment is brusque and hurtful...considering how much work I put into my videos. Perhaps you could practice some diplomacy so you don't come off like such a douche canoe. th-cam.com/video/tFfAey0GIBQ/w-d-xo.html

I hav this lens too does an adapter of AF-EOS M cud be use to my canon M50 ii?

7-210 is the sharper of the three. (at least the sample I used.) it is worth getting and using!
How could You put the laea4 with the Cage? I've been trying with diferentes brands and nothing!!

I imagine the crop factor you get with an adapter for these compacts. Ever had one of those big Sony Alpha DSLRs?
No, but I'd probably go for a Sony full frame if I could afford it. I'd still play around with these lenses since Sony glass is so expensive.

Would you be able to use this lens with a non autofocus adapter? And use it manually?
I don't believe so, no. There's no means to control the aperture.
CoriolisAffectment oh okay. Any suggestions for vintage lens for manual focus in the same range?
