Thank you so much! My mom doesn’t like turkey so she’d cook ham for the holidays. Puerto Rican’s love ham! But my little family (literally me, my wife, and 18 month old all weigh a combined 240 lbs lol) would never get through a whole ham. So I bought a Ham steak with no idea how to cook it. This came out just as delicious as my moms recipe and it was a big hit with the family. My wife fell in love all over again and my son was literally jumping. You brought joy to my household. Thank you! It’ll be our secret it was this easy.
This is a brilliant idea Kat! With the girls grown and gone and one in another state, we don’t always have a need for large meals. This is great for two with left overs for yummy sandwiches and/or yummy breakfast bake the next day. Thanks so much for sharing. God Bless you and yours ~Lisa
That's exaclty what I was hoping to hear, Lisa. I knew there were empty nester who still wanted all the delicious flavors of the holidays without the expense and fuss. I hope you love this!
This is an old family recipe of mine....I love it so much....with two in our family (now retired) we don't entertain as much as we used to....this will serve the two of us nicely for Christmas Day....maybe as ham and sweet potatoes.....ham sandwiches the next day.
Ms. Katzcrudel, can’t thank you enough! Made this for Christmas 2021 and again for Easter 2022; it was a HIT!!! Super easy, economical AND DELICIOUS. Paired it with a spicy broccoli cheese rice casserole. Perfect! Thank you and stay well.
I have a young family- just me, hubby, and a 4year old daughter. I’ll be trying this for a “fancy” dinner for us. I’ve watched and enjoyed your videos for years.
After seeing this video I tried your recipe. I loved it and got the wife's approval! From now on this is the only way I will serve a ham steak! Thanks so much
Easter Sunday 2022, and I am still using your wonderful recipe 😋 ❤❤❤💯 It is still so MARVELOUS!!! Can't thank you enough for teaching me! Happy Easter!
Your holiday ham steak recipe is a novel idea, especially for 2- 4 ppl. And in a skillet, who'd a thunk? I'd like to share my own version of sauce with you that I wish you'd consider some time: instead of pineapple juice reduced, frozen orange straight out of the can mixed with brown sugar to make a thick paste is the most delicious ham sauce I've ever tasted and ppl go crazy over it. And cloves a must with pineapple and cherries too. I'll have to try my version in a SKILLET. Yaaaaaay. I usually work way too hard in the kitchen so I appreciate your version. Wonderful.
What a great idea. I'll be making this for Christmas dinner. We are only two people and this will be perfect and we won't be eating it until it's coming out of our ears. Thank you so much for sharing. Bless you and your family and Happy Holidays.🎅
This looks beautiful!!...I am going to do this for sure this Christmas since we are staying in with no company this year...staying safe at home like so many others are....I will probably make 3 of these...have to have tons of leftover ham...Thank you so much...stay safe.
Enjoyed seeing a new post from you, Katzcradle. I always enjoy the effective manner in which you give directions, you seem very organized in your thoughts. I hope you've been well and happy.
I buy these all the time. Use a piece in my ham and cheese omelet and a big slab as a side to go with it. Love it fried with a bit of Worcestershire sauce in the pan.
Hi Katz....I just luv watching your videos...your instructions are always so concise & thorough. This idea looks great!! Such a nice idea for people cooking for only a few not a crowd. Thanks & Take care Katz xx
Katzcradul, I have been watching your videos for a long time now and have learned so much from you. I do appreciate your clear, exact directions that can be appreciated by a novice as well as an experienced cook/canner. You and others on youtube have been my mentors. I have learned so much over the years. I do know that when I am watching one of your canning videos that you are giving thoughtful, accurate, and transparent information. I would like to send you a gift to show my appreciation. I am a quilter and have made some 4" blocks over the years that I made just to enjoy making them, thinking that I would some day inset them with another center piece and make a quilt or something. Well that is not going to happen. I can make a little cushion from the 4" block which can be used as a pin cushion or paperweight. I would like to email you a picture of my collection and have you choose the block that you would most like. The little blocks are all made from 1800s fabric (not reproduction) and are all hand pieced. They are all wonderful, but you may find one that you really like. Please advise where I should email the pictures. Blessings Jo Ann
I'm just checking to make sure that you have the pictures. No hurry at all, take your time to decide which one you want. Also, let me know if you would like to have a closeup of any of the blocks. Please send me a note with update information. jsomers@bellsouth.net. jo ann
Thank you so very much dear katzcradul for making our Christmas brunch a HUGE success! I’ve avoided cooking a ham for over 20 years as they’ve been blah, dry with a watery sauce. Not this Christmas. My partner suggested a ham and was the recipient of a disdained stare down LOL! I gave in after I viewed your video. OMG, I followed your fantastic instructions diligently and boy, what a flavour bomb! Our guest couldn’t stop raving and there were lots of quiet moments during the meal. That’s when I knew the meal was a success. Again, thank you SO VERY MUCH for this recipe. It’s a definite keeper. It might make another appearance for New Year’s Day ;-). Thank you, and we wish you a happy healthy prosperous new year!
You just made my day! I'm so happy that you tried this and that you liked it. We think it's delicious too. it's so much easier for me to deal with than a huge, heavy ham. Happy New Year and thanks for watching.
I love this idea. It is economical and efficient. You make so many wonderful points. Thank you as always Katz. I am so glad you are back to help me in my kitchen :)
Linda here I was just wondering why you never show your face so we know you, your voice seems so sweet and I love the way you generalize your videos, they are so explanatory thank you for sharing.
Looks fabulous, Katz, and I'll be trying it soon. I also want to take a second to wish you and the family a blessed upcoming new year. You are, and have been since I first found you, an inspiration to me both in the kitchen and in my life in general. I suppose that sounds quite strange given that we've never met, but there is just something so gentle and kind about you that calms me. Thank you for the wonderful videos... I'll be looking forward to seeing all new ones and continue to watch the oldies but goodies. My family certainly enjoys every Katz recipe that I make...and I give you all the credit. Blessings of peace, health and prosperity to you and your fantastic family. jo
I remember the first time I did this an my first thought while I was eating "all these years I had just fried it for breakfast... 😂 but it didn't take long to become one of my favorite dinner meal's..as I live alone Blessings
I'm going to do this! I wanted ham, but not the entire big ham. This is just what I was looking for. May I ask what you served with it? And your serving platter is just beautiful!
katz that ham steak looks awesome . i'm so glad ur back !! hope your tg was awesome and have a great rest of the weekend . hugs from michigan !!! p.s. it would be awesome if they did turkey in slices too .
Kat !!!! I was just watching an old video of yours and wondered how you were doing, how your bees were, did you get the fruit trees that you planted in your neighbors yard, how your garden was doing...ok, I missed you !!
Hey Pocono Prepper! We're moving to Texas in three years so we've made a lot of changes in preparation for the move. We've had to restore our little micro homstead back to just normal city lot in order to try and sell it for top dollar. No one want to buy Old McDonland's farm in the middle of town! We gave our bees to a close neighbor. The old man next door, where we planted the fruit trees, died and the property was sold. The fruit trees are no longer ours but we're good with that. The people who purchased the property were raised in an orchard so they know how to care for the trees. We have no garden. We've convereted it all back to lawn to make it more appealing to young home buyers. We feel a little lost. I miss my chickens most of all. We'll regain some normalcy when we get fully established at our new location in Texas. Just wishing we were already there. Thanks for stopping by to chat.
Lori, I am from Texas so you can understand my eagerness to get back. I love that bumper sticker too. I also like the cute saying, "Coming to Texas? Save your bacon grease. We'll tell you what to do with it when you get here."
Kat, I love this idea and the ham steak sounds wonderful. This would be the perfect Christmas Eve Supper. We do smoked turkey breast for Christmas Day and this would make the Day before so much easier!... by the way your pineapple sauce without the cloves and added pecans would make a unreal topping for ice cream! You just make me smile with these great meals!
This would be SUCH an easy Christmas Eve dinner. So quick to throw together when your exhausted from baking and meal prep for the big day. You're so right about the carmelized fruit making a great topping for ice cream...or even a slice of poundcake. I'm going to go back and add that suggestion to the comments. You get a gold star for this comment! K ~
That one ham steak can serve 5 people?? Holy cow! I ate a whole one by myself. I LOVE ham. What if you have like 5 or 6 ham steaks. Can you dip them one at a time in the pineapple sauce, THEN stack 'em?
I ordered from our local grocer their Thanksgiving Turkey Box and there was still more than we could eat. I took the remainder of the Turkey Breast and put it into a crock pot with chicken broth and left it on "Low" for four hours and the meat fell off the bone. I will cook up some flat noodles and add it to the broth and cut up carrots for a Turkey soup for later today. Cheers. Where you been???

Warm the plate before putting the food on it.
Pour the water off, dry the plate and then put the food on it.
Is the mustard a necessity for the glaze ?? Cus if so
