Guntherwerks has developed a reputation for building the best, most coveted 993-based "reimagined" Porsches around. With GT3-like handling, eye-popping low curb weights, and massive power from their Rothsport engines they perform like few other air-cooled cars on the planet. Well now Gunther's got Turbo power. Their new Turbo "Tornado" variant packs a 750 HP 4.0L twin-turbo Rothsport engine and weighs only 2,670 lbs. This is a powertrain validation mule, so it's not finished. It has no interior, the body work isn't quite right, and it's got a cheap crappy wrap on it rather than gorgeous naked carbon. But Guntherwerks asked us to drive it for a week to give them some notes on the setup for the canyons, and we asked if we could film and share our thoughts with you. So here we go.
Guntherwerks provided the vehicle and insurance for this video.

The 750HP Guntherwerks Turbo Development Mule is the Wildest Air-Cooled Porsche I've Ever Driven

Anybody else love the irony of water cooled air, on a air cooled engine. This is peak woka wonderland stuff here!
About as ironic as Matt doing Keeps ads
I mean, it's an air-water intercooler for the turbos. I can't really say it counts.
And a bald guy hocking hair-growth items. Loaded with irony!
@@twinscrew928 Poor Matt is a victim, he's just saving others from the same horrific fate. 😂
I just don't understand how the engine is still air-cooled with 750hp and two turbos! That's an astonishing feat
"And remember, ALWAYS fight your hair loss."
Sorry, couldn't resist when I saw the sponsor bit
I thought I was bald. But looking at you 'guys, I realize two things.
One, I really miss shooting pool, and two, I'm not bald. Steve's not bald. You guys are bald. Really bald. One hundred watt, soft-white bald.
Al Bundy
Matt is either the best spokesman for this product or the worst. I haven't decided yet 🤔
Aerodynamics are very important to car design. Therefore, being bald is just adding to aerodynamic efficiency. Especially with convertibles.
@@DC5Brandon if its preventative hair loss they picked the wrong guy🤣
I just don't want to watch another TH-camr try to make 'Factor' look like food
About 450 lbs less than my 993 with about 450 more HP...... sounds like a riot to me!
As cool as it is I think I would rather have yours. You can hear how he's driving it, you're barely on the gas at all, super sketch.. its a show car.
It's amazing that GW is looking for feedback and allowing TST to do a full review of a prototype! Singer won't even allow you to freely review their cars without them having last say in the review. What are they scared of? Major respect to GW. Stellar cars!
They are scared about protecting the insane prices paid for them :) can't lose the mystique
Singer tries to pull that Ferrari shit...
GW makes insanely amazing rides in reality... as long as you have a bank account equal to that level of insanity. Beautiful, powerful, and desirable but way too expensive.
As a German i keep learning more and more about apparently there are so many Porsche Enthusiasts in the USA, there are several Tuning Companies focused on Porsche.
Never heard of Guntherwerks but always glad to learn about new ones, Singer is American too right?
In Germany we of course have RUF, Gemballa, Techart, Speedart etc. etc. Point being, always awesome to see that much Enthusiasm for German Cars in the USA that go and focus with that much Effort on specific Cars or Brands.
Prost & Cheers from Berchtesgaden in the Bavarian Alps
Singer is British. Ruf is the best others just trying to wave riding. Every real Porsche fan knows Ruf is the best because they grew with a Porsche brand right from the beginning. Gemballa is using Ruf drivetrains by the way. The greatest things are still coming from Germany. Nobody will do and understand better Porsche cars than Germans. Stick to the real things.
Rob Dickinson is British but the company he founded (Singer Vehicle Design, named after Norbert Singer - a German) is definitely headquartered in Los Angeles, California.
German cars in general, but mostly Porsche are widely considered the best cars in the world, by enthusiasts, and normies alike. I have to drive a ton, like 100,000 km a year, so I stick with Lexus, since reliability is my number 1 concern. Even with my bias, I still consider Porsche to be the greatest car brand. Speaking of Japan, have you seen RWB? Some wild Porsche mods coming from them
@@KyleBrightmanisn’t Singer named after Rob being a-singer in a rock band?
@@ivanpuskaric6851 Not trying to sound rude, but your question has already been answered in my reply above and can be confirmed in about 10 seconds on the Wikipedia page. It’s named after Norbert Singer.
“When you hit second the earth starts spinnin’ the other way” what a great description
I came here to say exactly that!
Depends on what direction like East or West but I get it… it’s got some torque!
Got to see this car in person at Angeles Crest. Johnny Liberman was driving it. He stopped and chatted for a bit. Nice guy and beautiful car! 935 dreams for sure!
Yup! I was there on my 1st GVBC, and was just speechless!

Matt's ability to drive a hot rod like this and talk the whole way is impressive. My eyes would be bulging out of my head the whole time.
"This is like some crazy Pike's Peak shit dude." Love it
Very cool seeing the air speed sensor mounted inside the intake on the wing
It sounds awesome! Doesn't have the full anger of a racing motor, but has the rumble of something serious.
750 hp is definitely racing horsies.
The editing on this video was very cool. The variety of shorts made it feel high energy and really made the car feel exciting. Great job!
Pre-production insanity!!
Absolutely epic. Been looking forward to this one
I love this beast, Matt, and I love the way you make it come to life for us mere mortals who’ll never get to drive it.
It's so refreshing to see a company like Guntherwerks giving their vehicles to people like you, JWW and Chris to review and give them real feedback. Yeah as far as it comes to boutiqueesk cars in the porsche community singer is hailed as being on the top...but you hardly see them giving their vehicles to review...even knowing it isn't perfect and still has issues to be addressed.

Love the look even with the rough wrap. Wild product
Super cool. These are dream 993's.
Let’s all have a moment of silence for this machine 😢 It was destroyed during testing at Leguna Seca
Man, when you ran it up from rolling start, that straight got short in a hurry! Looks thrilling!
Thing sounds bloody insane!!
Easily the coolest engine bay I’ve ever seen. Rothsport does insane work.
I've always had a thing for Porsche, and that one is an absolute beast. I'm jealous you got to drive it🙃
Gotta love Guntherwerk, literally revolutionized the definition of power- weight. When i think Porsche guntherwerks comes to mind simple
Insane machine. I love this car
Thanks This The Great Video & Channel ! Hello From Finland !
What an absolute beast!!
Love Gunther Werks. Literally my dream car.
I didn't think I'd enjoy a video that featured that many shots between Matts legs. But here we are!
Great video, can't wait to see the finished Guntherwerks Turbo product in future video.
It's warm and cozy down there 😂
Cool drive Matt! My buddy has a GW Odessey and its an amazing machine and piece of art. So cool to look at all the details. This new car w the turbos sounds cool. His car is NA but has a killer sound also. GW makes awssome stuff.
What. A. Machine. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
I've been telling you since you got your Spyder to dump the stock PASM and add MCS dampers to it.
You would be amazed at how the good it is with proper motorsport dampers under it , and MCS is one of the best when it comes to keeping a good ride quality.
I have the 2-way remotes on my 718 GT4 and it makes all the difference.
Saw this in person at GVBC in January., Wow!!! , Wow!!!!!!!!!!!!
Stunning!
I love a good steering wheel and this is top work for sure, but even the steering column is beautiful 😍
I love the 993 Turbo.👍
I like the interior the way it is
Now that’s a machine! Proper weapon! Damn
This car is so hot. I love how much fun Matt is having in the video. The pure joy really comes through!
Keeps is working well for you mate. Keep it up!
These are my dream cars
Amazing machine and great video. What an animal!
Man a Gunther Works 993 or a Singer 964 DLS are my ultimate dream cars either one would make me immensely happy and have a Studie AG G87 M2 for a daily driver
Speed! lol love the opening quote.
I have been waiting for this video since you teased it. My adreniline is going as if I am in the car with you.
Sik and I only can imagine the pace this car can hit when on an open winding road. Of course Angeles Crest is a great test. You should take it up to the favorite road, which is also mine. I would like to see it really opened up though.
Stellar! I’d love to see Matt drive this back to back with a GT2RS to compare the performance and handling…
That is what we call an OP car. Never seen anything on the canyon that fast
This is the kind of car where you're always in the right gear because of the power.
what a monster!
That weight with that HP number is scary..😱👍🏽🏁
Love to see this car when finished against the upcoming singer 935 like car.
Insane 993, the first person footage looks like it's sped up even if it's not
This is like some crazy Pikes Peak shit dude
Love it haha
Dear Santa... What a stunning car. Brilliant!
Lol DDE saw it on the truck on the way to him. :D
They need to get DDE on the pod
Gotta be a dual-disc clutch if the spring is that light, the engagement smooth and the torque capacity is that high.
Good for them, premium car demands primo components.
What a car!
Wild!
Matt talks about the ride a few times but that is a big advantage of light cars. Cars this light don’t need excessively stiff suspension.
Looks awesome! Sounded like it was highly detuned though for your test.
The noise that thing makes! Moses sandals!
Is the mule using a Haltech display and electronics?
Sometimes the in car view doesn't always "look" fast, but god dang this thing looks insane during the windscreen shots. Holy Moses.
holy grail
Does it come with analog gauges or that screen?
Is there such a thing as a clutch booster? Like a brake booster? Seems like it would be perfect since you are off throttle when clutch is pushed in so you can get vacuum.
Yes please
What standard production Porsche is it comparable to? Is it as fast in simple acceleration times as the GT2RS?!
It couldn’t have been that cold in socal that gloves and a winter hat were needed
The power to weight must be nuts on that.
Sounds pretty right and well executed project.
You said turbo picks up at 2.5 , what is the usable rpm range? I didn't hear where the rpm peak is set
rev limit is 7500
@@deathcab4booty thanks sir
Pretty wide range
The power-to-weight on this thing is berserk. Think about this, it has the power of a Hellcat--in a car that weighs almost a full TON less. Nearly 2,000 lbs less mass! If you lose 500 lbs. of weight in a car, that has profound effects on performance. People pay tens of thousands just to shed 50-100 lbs. via light-weighting carbon packages. Outside of Pikes Peak or top speed runs, it's hard to fathom anywhere you would be able to utilize such power levels. And it has the engine over the drive wheels. Must be a riot when it's not trying to kill you.
As soon as this car goes into production and someone gives me 1.2 million I’m gonna place my order.
That was on a tow truck yesterday.
Very nice, but I think it's easy to see that they're playing the catch up with Singer.
three words! "ball" "powder" "salesman" !!! 😂
We love wild things
Wasn't surprised by the difference in smooth rd to coarse gravel lookout 'wobble'. It's a racecar. Upside is that being so stinkin riché it doesn't have to be the daily.
I'm sure its solid, and well engineered, but the Guntherwerk design language reminds me of the Stay Puft marshmallow man.
“Genau!”
I want that car so bad. As in THAT one. Not a finished out "perfect" version. I'd add a little sound deadening and carpet to the interior and an aftermarket AC system. Then drive it like I give zero fucks about it. Perfect driver spec car.
Was thinking the exact same thing. The only stumbling block is I have around $5 spare for another car, and that's Australian dollars... 😢
Ah one of the rare time where some rock guards would be good!
God this thing is about to sound so fucking good
Dayummmm now that’s a sexy car
All bells, no whistles.
Restomod type builds are just the best. Obviously at this level and budget, a bit unobtainium but the fact still remains I don't get the appeal of buying a new car all specced out with the limitations of manufacturers and their bean counters when you can pick something cool as a base and really make it your own. Not a fan of the wheel design on this but it's also tough to pick great-looking wheels on older body shapes and these at least have the merit of being functional to a fault. Superhypercars eat your heart out. This kind of bucket of kick-ass is where it's at for car people.
I wonder what it would feel like having the newest PDK in it. Would be insane, but would it take away from the aura of the car?
I love it when people in SoCal cosplay Winter.
I agree in genral. But he’s at elevation where it’s legitimately cold in the morning when he films.
Even the steering column is sexy
Does it have power steering??
That pulled through the gears SO FUCKING FAST
Sounds like the Widow Maker has reached a new zenith.
That might be the sexiest engine I've ever seen.
Crazy how popular porsches have become in recent times
Oh looked distracted driving to set up your suspension on the move. "Phone gets dropped under seat, stuck in nose lift height"
Nicee speedy
These are mutch better then signer
Haha, the laugh at 3:54 sounds kinda like a blowoff valve.
finally the right watch on your wrist!
On the wrong wrist though.
@@s4nder86 well if you are a lefty or you wear on left wrist thats a matter of choice... the watch on the ther hand is a statement
What watch is it?

I'd really like to see these cars driven hard, than just a brisk pace with the "mall walkers" on a Saturday. I get you can't break, beat, or wreck em, but it's kinda tame to me.
