Love this shade of pink! I mixed yellow and pink roses so it made my rose water a golden yellow. I added a few drops of rose hip seed oil along with the aloe vera.
Authentic rose water is actually made from the vapor of the boiled rose water. There is a special way to do it on the stove with ice and the steam or vapor falls into another bowl and this is authentic rose water. The best roses to use are Rosa Damaschena (I think that's the name). They're the most fragrant! :-D
I thought so too but maybe there are other ways.. I'm still researching other things. I heard u can use the petals after boiling on different things to.
You are part correct - that is the process of making a hydrosol (essentially just water lightly laced with the fragrance of whatever the plant that was made into essential oil). Hydrosol is a byproduct from making said essential oil (which contains all the good stuff) which is why essential oil is so expensive. However this process in the video will be just as effective (if not more) to use on the skin as a toner and will contain more nutrients than the hydrosol as the rose petals haven't undergone the rigorous process required to extract the nutrients from the petals. Most commercially sold rosewater are hydrosols because it's profitable to sell the byproducts too, and I've seen so many comments on rose water tutorials of people preferring hydrosol and critiquing that this version can't be effective and therefore cannot be considered rose water - partly from ignorance. This is pure marketing, and hope you don't fall into that trap. Often the best remedies are the simplest and trust me you can tell the difference. Long before rose water was made available commercially my grandmother's maid used to make it similar to this (without the additives), I've also tried hydrosols but personally to this day I prefer this. Just make sure you use freshly picked herbicide free garden roses (well cleaned), not the store bought roses, it's variety doesn't matter much to be honest. I remember she also used to add this to Christmas cakes - which my mom does now as well, but for that make sure it's an edible variety. :)
Both methods are good. The one with the brick and the ice is making a hydrosol from the steam of the roses. I do this method when I have a lot of plant material. The hydrosol will last about 3-6 months and doesn't have to be refrigerated. The method shown here is a quick method using a few roses. It is an ideal way to produce a fresh rose water.
Distilling roses is wonderful and creates rose hydrosol which I use a lot. It is a totally different process and distilling equipment is needed. This video is something simple to do with roses in your yard.
I was just at Safeway awhile ago with a couple of my neighbors, and as we were leaving with our groceries I saw this 18 stemmed roses for just 12:99 (I would expect roses to cost more than that!) and wished I'd seen them before I checked my stuff out. I just got to thinking, for the price of rose water I'd pay at Food Co-op I guess I'd get more for my money if I bought those roses and made it myself, no? Then again, no telling that the roses were even organic.
good afternoon thanks for the wonderful video,I would love to know where to get the bottles you used to storage the rose water and the beautiful little fennel, thanks in advance
Masuma Khan Hello Masuma, You can learn how to preserve products naturally in my class here: www.joanmorais.com/online-classes/how-to-preserve-natural-body-hair-and-skin-care-products-online-class/
I went outside to get some roses off the rose bush outside the house , i brought the roses in the house was going to make me some rose water, and why did I bring in bugs spiders and worms on the roses in the hpuse, Lord knows I am afraid of them all. I threw those roses right back outside of the house in the backyard lol...
I thought that the organic roses are the ones without the bugs I thought the organic roses are the best, but I don't know I don't know anything about organic or non-organic I just know what happened when I went outside and picked will this off my rose bush it was not a pretty sight I was screaming and crying like a baby😭
I teach courses on natural preservation. I don't have the information available here. This is considered a fresh rose water with no preservative and to be used up.
This is a fresh rose water that needs to be refrigerated and used up within 1-2 weeks. There is a lot that goes into effectively preserving a cosmetic, it is not a simple answer. You can learn more at the link in the description.
I've added a link in the video description to an ebook; How To Preserve Natural Body, Hair and Skin Care Products. The ebook is listed under ebooks on my website.
Hi can you help me and tell me wish way of making rose water is better, I have seen another video, that you use a brick and ice, and I have seen your video, can you tell me wish rose water is better, because in the other video you dont use the water that you boil,,the rose water is the steam water that come up and drops into a bowl

Is there any other object that can be substituted for a mortar and pestle? I know she said it's optional but I feel like it will make the smell stronger..
I have made made rose water twice in the past two months and everytime I do, the water ends up green as well. The roses are from my backyard and free of any chemicals and pesticides. I have no clue what's going on, I gave up a long time ago.
minus the glycerin and additional ingredients, is this the same taste and scent as store bought rose water , if I wanted to use it in desserts?? I wonder why bottled store bought rose water tastes so good....

I have a question...do you have to wash the petals before boiling it or just straight up put it in..because if i were to buy roses at a store i think they put some kind of chemicals to the rose to help it last longer..so do i have to wash it???

Thanks for your comment and information. I refer to the water distilled from roses as hydrosol.
Yes, the rose water by itself makes an excellent toner and hair mist without adding anything to it.
You're welcome. Thank you for your comment.

Hello Joan. I was just wondering for how long do you keep the rose petals in the pot?
+Karine Hammoud Hello, 20-30 minutes
Jojoba oil does last a long time but it does not preserve water.
Hi I was wondering if you could please tell us what a natural preservative would be! Like this pls so that it stays up!!!
Where did you get the cute little spray bottles? We've been looking online and don't see that style bottle.
I had purchased them at Sunburst Bottles.
Thanks much!
Great tutorial and very useful! You mentioned how to preserve it naturally, how would you go about doing that?
Masuma Khan Hello Masuma, You can learn how to preserve products naturally in my class here: www.joanmorais.com/online-classes/how-to-preserve-natural-body-hair-and-skin-care-products-online-class/

Those bottles are beautiful with the gold, where did you buy them? I wonder how you would use ALL that rosewater in just one week!
It's just like using rubbing alcohol. Since it's only a table spoon, it shouldn't be harmful to the skin.
You can use vitamin e to preserve it
Hello, No Vitamin E does not preserve water.
how can i preserve it?
and how long will it last if I preserve it? I want it to last through the winter, when roses don't grow
Great info I need to make this for my lips, thanks!!!
Thanks! Can you use dried rose petals?
Wow! Thanks for this video!!! I am so making it!!! I didn't know anything about glycerin, thanks for the information

does it matter how many days old the roses are or what of roses? I don't know if the roses I have are organic.
Just make sure the are fresh. It kind of does matter because the rose water won't have all the roses' juices.
Where did you get the bottles and the metal funnel?
Hi Joan. What methods do you suggest to preserve homemade rose water (since I won't use mine up within a week)?
Hi can you help me and tell me wish way of making rose water is better, I have seen another video, that you use a brick and ice, and I have seen your video, can you tell me wish rose water is better, because in the other video you dont use the water that you boil,,the rose water is the steam water that come up and drops into a bowl

Oh thankyou 😄
