- Pamper yourself this Valentine's weekend with this DIY rose oil recipe! I had so much fun making this... It smells so good, I can't wait to incorporate it into my beauty routine this February. Please give this video a thumbs up if you liked it!
I'll be using oil mostly as body oil. But feel free to use it for your face (since grapeseed is lightweight!), the ends of your hair, your nails, etc.

// HOW TO MAKE ROSE OIL
Step 1: Bring a pot of water to a boil, then remove the heat
Step 2: Prepare 1 cup of organic rose petals (2-3 roses). Shred the rose petals.
Step 3: Pour 1 cup grapeseed oil into glass jar. (Jojoba or olive oil works too)
Step 4: Swirl the petals into the oil
Step 5: Cover the jar and place into the hot water. Warming the oil helps release the scent from the petals.
Step 6: When the water cools, remove the jar.
Step 7: Let jar sit for 24 hours or longer (for stronger results)
Step 8 (optional): Use a sieve to separate the rose petals from the oil.

highly warn you about that. You don't want to spray Pesticides on your
face! Freshly cut garden flower - yes. Otherwise this is just a receipe for
instant breackouts.

Also, there ARE organic pesticides. So make sure to find out if pesticides were used period.

You need to use a tea rose for infused oils. Otherwise it won't have any scent. You also need to use the whole head of the rose to get the benefits from the rose hip.

Great video! Straight to the point...no waffle! I use the roses from my mother-in-law's garden to make my rose infused oil. They have an amazing fragrance when I walk by I am drawn in by their scent unlike shop bought roses that have no scent at all. I do prefer to dry my roses as in the past i have used fresh and they went mouldy and spoilt the oil so now i dry them first.
How do you dry them? 😊

Because you are using fresh flowers not dried petals you MUST include a preservative to prevent mold and bacteria from growing like crazy due to the water content of the fresh flowers. There are organic preservatives as well as synthetic.

No. U do not need a preservative if using dried petals, be sure they're completely dried out,hang upside down it totally dried.

This is an infused oil by definition. There is also hydrosols an even more potent infusion. And finally Rose Absolute. It takes a special process and 1000+ roses to produce just a 1/2 oz. of this essential oil. It is several hundreds of dollars to purchase this small amount. But it is glorious!
I’m really curious about / trying to find the best methods to preserving the scent of what I’m trying to turn into a distillate/tincture/oil/etc and curious about the key differences between things like tinctures, oils and distillates?
For example stuff like vetiver, clematis flowers and honey suckle

Wow, I bought argan life pure argan oil. supply the other day and products have not been working out for my transitioning hair lately. I put this on my hair right after I washed it and then I air dried and blow dried. My hair dried fast and it was so unbelievably soft. I can't do my hair into transitioning styles so I flat iron. This blended the textures perfectly. I love this oil. I just effing love it!

This is not a good recipe. Using fresh rose petals (or any plant material) will cause you product to go bad, or get moldy, way too quickly. Use pre-dried botanicals, or dry your own by laying the plant matter out on a baking sheet and drying out the petals in the oven. Set it to as low a heat as possible, and check on it every 10 minutes or so. You won’t lose any of the benefits of the material, but your infused oil will last indefinitely. Even longer if you add an organic preservative to it. Please don’t use fresh botanical matter.
Also, you can use literally any oil you want to. And you aren’t limited to just rose infused oil. Againe, you can use whatever plant you want to. The possibilities are endless.

You're absolutely right because i tried this exact method and it got molded after just a week !
@@Oaktreealley I've only had the oil turn a beautiful shade of pink once, but I used dried rose and hibiscus petals, So I'm not sure if it was to roses, or the hibiscus, that turned the oil pink. If you chose to fill a clean jar with the dried botanicals, and set is aside for at least 3 weeks; It won't turn pink. But if you go the double boiler route, you have to let is steep for several hours. I prefer this method, as it makes it so the oil can be used as soon as it's cooled. You just have to fill a pan with about an inch of water, set the burner to high until the water starts to boil, and then turn it down to a simmer for the next 3 or so hours. You can leave it longer depending on how concentrated you want to the oil to be. These methods work with literally every botanical. I've also used Calendula, Lavender, Plum Blossom, and Hibiscus. You can also use teas if you're looking to make something with multiple properties. Green tea is great for skincare. I would, however, recommend using Sweet Almond oil instead of Olive. It's much better for your skin, and wont' clog pores or trigger any acne. If you're allergic to nuts, then Grapeseed oil is a great alternative. I hope this was helpful. Don't be afraid to ask as many questions as you need. :)
Also, buying dehydrated botanicals from health food stores in infinitely better that just buying a bouquet of flowers and drying them out. Most of the botanicals from health food stores are chemical and pesticide free. And you can get a large amount of flowers for very little money. Againe, I hope this was helpful.

+Mariana Nunes I'll be using the oil for my body and to condition the ends of my dry hair. But you can also use it for your face (since grapeseed is lightweight!) and your nails (conditioning your bare nails/cuticles after removing nail polish is great!)

I like her and her ideas and videos. Someone may give her a thumbs down because putting fresh pedals back in water or oil can stimulate mold growth. Let the pedals dry 1-2 days then introduce them to the already made infused oils or water.

Most likely a bunch of snobs disliked this because this is not rose oil she is making. She is making an infusion. Blah blah. Whatever! I love this tutorial and i am going to try it. Along with the tip from above about dehydrating the pedals for a couple days. I hate mold. It is a buzzkill.

Agreed. Thats why some people see mold in their oil is because they contaminate the oil with water which molds over time because the moisture is trapped. Thats why when using oil in a bathroom be S.U.R.E not to contaminate the oil with water as water and oil will not mix and the water will stay suspended in the oil and cause mold to form and grow. Its like when you mix water and oil while cooking, not a good idea. (Please dont store oil, especially jojoba oil in the bathroom where you take showers)
@@autumnasters actually they do contain lots of scent which is one reason it is used in both homemade potpourri, and loose incense. And an oil can be infused with every kind of herb you can imagine. The process takes about 2 months for the long method, and 1-3 hrs for a slow simmer double boiler method. Please do your research before just assuming things.

Are you sure the oil doesn't end up mainly just being grapeseed oil? Do the rose petals really add enough "Rose" oil to the grapeseed oil to even make a difference?
it is mostly grapeseed oil with a hint of rose smell haha

coconut oil hardens into a solid form at room temperature, so if you were to you cocnut oil, it would end up in a solid consistency

the oil does melt like stated above but it's notorious for causing acne breakouts, and some hair types don't agree with most coconut products
sure it is the aesthetic now, long term it just won't do from all the rose goodness settling down to the bottom and causing some weird effects like scorching the oil
safe oils are sweet almond oil, jojoba oil, extra virgin/olive oil, grape seed oil, avocado oil
questionable oils are apricot oil, argan oil, sunflower seed oil, castor oil, hazelnut oil
unsafe oils are flax oil, vegetable oil, extra virgin/coconut oil, hydrogenated oils, and any oil that is not cold pressed, any essential oils & fragrance oils are okay only after the heating process is done

You’ll get an infused oil. Which means that some of the properties of the rose petals will be infused into the oil. If you use rose petals, you’ll have an oil that softens and soothes skin; As well as being gentle enough for every skin type, evening skin tone, and clearing up problem skin. It works really well for mature skin, problem skin, and uneven skin tones. Using Sweet Almond oil will just make your oil a little richer, softer, highly absorbent, and non-comedogenic (won’t clog pores). But please use dried botanicals. Using fresh plant matter will cause your oil to grow mold, and not stay safe for very long. If you can’t find dry petals, then dry your own by slowly heating them in the oven. It’s really not that complicated I make my own skincare products, and run my own small business.

+Ku'unani Tai tbh i'm not sure! but I think if you strain out the petals, the oil may last longer. I might have read somewhere that the petals could mold over time in certain conditions, because of their moisture. and yes, you can probably do this with other flowers :) have fun experimenting!

+Lavendaire Ive always read its better to let the rose petals dry out 1st to prevent any kind of contamination....I have a WHOLE BOX of dried rose petals Ive been cutting over the last couple weeks. I never even seen a diy with fresh petals til I came on youtube and looked.

i don't know, i haven't tried. coconut oil solidifies though so experiment at your own risk :)

verzales gonica It should work but I wouldn’t use it if you’re going to use the oil on your face, coconut oil over hydrates and can clog your pores, causing breakouts and damage to your skin.
Coconut oil isn't typically used as a carrier cuz it has a stronger smell (not gross but powering olive oil tends to as well) so if you want more of a rose scent use an oil with less of a strong smell

Well beautiful images, though I would add these important points: Rose oil could mean anything and everything. Don’t be fooled by rise oil and believe it will have the same properties as rose essential oils. Rose essential oil is made by distillation. Other very important point: using fresh petals is ok if, indeed you use a double pan and filter/strain the oil after 48 hours. If you leave fresh petals into your oil, it will turn rancid or eventually build mold. If you want to leave petals into your oil, it is imperative to use dried petals. Furthermore, using any kind of roses will not bring nor scent, nor cosmetic benefits to your oil. Some roses have been grown and selected for their nice look, not for the scent. The nice red petals used do not have scent.
It’s a need to use Rosa damascena or little light pink ancient roses (that do not hold in bouquet and will never be found in a florist store, sorry...)
Another detail: : when boiling /double pan heating the macerated oil: it releases all the volatile substances contained in the vesicles inside the petals, not only scent.
And last but not least, the oil used for maceration is as important as the flowers used for realizing a good skincare oil. In other words: using prime quality of rosehip oil, or avocado, or argan oil, will bring so much more beneficial compounds. It is to be noticed that grape seed oil , unless you are sure it is a 100% organic oil, the seeds usually contain a concentration of all the pesticides sprayed while growing the grapes...
So, in the scenario we would use this process to obtain a macerated oil: I would (and I do) use botanical oil that will be part of my skincare formulation, and not just a “carrier” oil or a filler oil...also I would use the rose strains that contain the natural fragrance, and last but not least, I would use fresh petals to leave on my oil, as it would bring you a build up of bacteria. Please use dry petals to leave in your macerated oil.

+Monica V yes, coconut oil is heavier, but it should be fine. The oils I mentioned are more lightweight, so they're safe to use for your face as well.
