this seems to not work for me. i am recording the 2 sources (game/cam) but both recordings are my entire scene, gameplay, cam alerts, subcounts, etc..
yep, same problem
Make a separate profile and sources where you don’t have any of those things
I searched for a solution to this problem for longer than I'd like to admit, and your video was exactly what I was looking for all that time! Thank you so much
Glad it helped
@@MichaelFeyrerJrIt didn’t work for me. I don’t see source record.
I was stuck and frustrated on why the sources weren't recording individually, or only some recorded here and there, pretty randomly. Your tip of setting up different encoders for the master recording as opposed to the source recording and the file name hack combined with me adding a separate folder for projects, really made the difference and I can now confidently record any project and know it's going to be recorded just as planned. You got yourself a new subscriber! Thanks for this
I gotta say, Micheal, you´ve quickly become my favorite tutorials guy. The way you go in depth explaining how to go about doing stuff, but still manage to keep it simple and easy to follow, its a delight haha I stopped trying to create content on my socials, but I am really getting motivated to pick it back up again. Thanks!
Wow, this is seriously the best way to do it. For a long time I've used another approach by recording a super wide video with my cam on the left and my desktop recording on the right. Super easy to combine in my editing software but also super inconvenient when trying to stream at the same time (since it's super wide). I was really looking for a another way of doing so and it seems I finally found it. And it was perfectly explained! I can see you know your business. So kudos to you sir and big thanks for the help!
btw, you ever watched "According to Jim"? You totally remind me of James Belushi for some reason, lol. Greetings from Germany.
Thanks! Glad to help. I have seen that show. :-)
Another way is to just duplicate the recording ontop of the original and just mask out everything besides your face cam
I Swear your videos have saved me from time to time! So glad you are doing what you do! Never stop!
Your a life saver... I found videos on this that make you split your video inputs on separate halves of the screen and crop them out afterwards in Premier. But I stream all my content, record it while doing so, and edit/upload it into a video... This is the ONLY way I can still stream good looking content and also record it in separate video channels for independent editing later! Thank you!
Are you still able to hear the gameplay and your mic and other players voices all on the just gameplay recording?
Dude you are awesome. At 12:27 you helped me figure out why only 3 of my 4 monitors was recording. That part of your video saved me much frustration. Thanks for a great tutorial
OH MY GOD YOUR A LIFE SAVER!!!! been trying the multitrack seperate audio for two days now and its been HEEEElL! thank you so much!
2025 and I needed to know how to do this. Thank you for this man and his knowledge. Now I can stream and edit even better.
I've been waiting for this for sooooooooooooooooo... long finaly
Glad to help
I too was looking for something like this.
Thanks A LOTTTTT This plug in SAVED MY LIVE🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌
Glad to help
First of all thanks for this video!
I was just looking for a solution on how to record OBS sources separately and this is the 3rd video I watched showing this plugin.
Even though this plugin seems to offer what I'm looking for, it seems that a lot of users are reporting issues while using it.
Not to mention that it seems to be very performance heavy like notable in your video!
I wish OBS would come with something like this by default, more intuitive in handling and without stability issues.
By the way I like your presentation style!
Keep it up and good luck ✌
Your tutorials are excellent, i do appreciate them a lot! Even tiny details added with how to install and the filename etc, really perfect
I love the way you deliver the content and variations of pitch.
Thanks.
I’ve been on TH-cam looking for someone to explain how to do this for 7 hours!!!
Thanks you and I definitely just subbed!
This tut was a godsend. No more having to 3840x1080 and splitting the screen in post. Thank Exeldro over at OBS for creating this and for you bringing this to the masses! Is there a way to record only the separate sources and not the combined video?
I assume you got an answer by now, but incase anyone else new is checking the chat. Yes you can have the source record to record "always" and then go to hotkeys and set it up when to enable and disable source record on specified keys. This avoids having the record on "stream", "record" or "Stream or record" criteria.
sorry for bothering you@@riceandbeansowo4165 but where can i find these hotkeys? i cant find them in settings within "hotkeys"
Every time i google how to do something in either OBS or streaming I get this wonderful guy. Thanks for everything!
This is exactly what I was looking for to create higher quality content on my gaming channel without having to do constant cropping on one recording to make edits! Still works great in 2024!
I’ve been waiting so long for this feature to drop. Thanks for the info
Glad to help.
Thanks, mate! This video seriously helped. Now its a cake walk. Your content is brilliant. Keep going :) Great job.
Glad it helped!
Thanks!
thanks!
the only video in youtube who explained clearly with example..thank you
Glad it was helpful!
this guy helped me so much, i was searching for this thing for over an year, finally i got.
everytime i was searching seperate facecam and gameplay videos, i get 3840x1080 guide, c'mon thats a huge file size for me
Just wanted to say Michael that you do an excellent job and it has helped me a lot as I am attempting a lengthy podcast on FDR. You have saved me lots of time and I greatly appreciate your sharing of the tutorials. When I finish the podcast, I will send you a link to it. Thanks again.
Thank you Michael. I have been looking for this kind of software for our Church. God Bless.
I've been wondering how to record game play source separately from overlays and camera for the purpose of streaming and having the gameplay footage on it's own for making video edits or reviews after streams and this is EXACTLY what is needed!
I've been waiting for this for 2 years thank u so much
Me too
@@oimwiolevrai we finally got it
Glad to help.
So when I click the plus, I can't see source record. It's just a bunch of default plugins (compressors, etc). I checked and it's in the folder.
This is great! For me, I just wanted to record two cameras at the same time for different angles. So I added the Screen Record filter to only one camera so it would record simultaneously in the background. Thanks for this video
Love the material mate, definatly clear and straight to the point.
amazing video that answered all my questions. Thanks a lot Michael!
Glad to help.
Fantastic! The segment on source recording helped me out a lot. Your videos are very useful and well delivered. Thanks :)
im struggling with using this for reaction videos, the camera recording is ok but the screen recording is out of sync with the show im watching. any idea what bitrate i should change that too? thanks
have u figured this out?
Thank you so much for this Michael! I'm going to try this out tonight!
I tried it and it didnt save separately! not sure why? :(
Awesome video. I was able follow and understand your steps. I do have a question though. Will this work with programs that use still images of an avatar like veatube and VTuberPlus in place of a camera?
Bro I’ve been trying to figure this out for like 2 years hahaha. Thank u for making this so simple and actually fixing this for me😂 I got prob 30-50 hours of awesome clips and videos. That r messed up in some way. Bad overlays. Messed up audio. Or something. Btw for anybody else doing this U may need to reinstall OBS for it to work.
SUPER helpful. I'm very excited to implement this. Thank you for sharing :)
Wow perfect plug-in and amazing vídeo thank you very much!
It’s an awesome plug-in.
Wow exactly what I was looking for , Thank you !!
Glad to help.
@@MichaelFeyrerJr The source record is not showing up on my filters, Please help.
This helped me so much, thank you.
This made me happy to watch a tutorial. You know your stuff and keep it up! Thanks so much for the help
hey michael, ive downloaded the plugin but its not coming up on my filters list, I am also using virtual cam for obs, will this affect anything? Is there a way to fix this, thanks
Thanks man, great as always.
Idk why I’m not seeing sorce record in filters
same
@@Andresfreeman420you have to download it
I'm also having this problem
Me too 🤔
Same here
this covered everything I was curious about, thank you
This is exactly the information I needed to know! Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
hi! thank you SO much for this! how do you get the quality to look great though on the separate recordings? no matter what settings I use, some of my recordings are quite framey during action sequences in games and low quality
THX YOU SO MUCH THAT WAS BIG HELP , I ENJOYED SO MUCH WATCHING YOUR VIDEO THE EDITING IS AMAZING GOOD WORK
Thank you for this plug-in.
Glad to help.
For some reason I am having problems setting it up. I downloaded source record and after setting up in obs. It’s only recording one video and not the separate sources.
I’m just did camera and screen capture.
Could there be something I did wrong
Very informative. I have learned that when I need something done in OBS I need to look up Michael Feyrer Jr. first! lol Thank you
Hi Michael
How do you get that cool sideways zoom animation on your webcam that you did a few times in this video
YOU HELPED ME A LOT!!!
This video is great. Exactly what I was looking for. Thank you a lot :)
I'm so happy I found your channel!
Seems like the best way to do it!!! Only thing is source record doesn’t seem to be an option in OBS for me. Wounded because it’s definitely the most efficient way for this to be done thanks for showing us
Great video. I have a Mac so maybe makes this a bit different but when I play back my gameplay or cam record, I hear both the audio from mic and capture card. Can I isolate it so the stream record does both. cam is only my mic and gameplay is only the gameplay (PS5). Thanks!
You can record them on separate audio tracks.
my camera recording also records the game audio, what should i do to fix this?
This video... Life saver!
New subscriber! Keep making your videos! They are awsome just like you!!!
Thanks.
@@MichaelFeyrerJr your welcome!!!
"encoding overloaded consider turning down video settings or using a faster encoding preset" what do?
I tried using different encoders but nothing seems to work. Half the time the recording lags alot. And other times obs just crashes....
did you ever figure it out
Why does it make the desktop audio sound lower quality?
I accidentally stumbled upon this video, so I would like share how I do this with no plugin... I take my 1920x1080 monitor, and my camera (also 1920x1080)... Then I make a base canvas by adding the horizontal pixel values, that is 1920 + 1920 = 3840. Therefore, my base canvas becomes = 3840x1080... I keep the desktop record at left, and camera at right... Also I make two seperate channels for both mic and desktop audio. This can be good if you are only recording... But I guess the video provides more than just that... Also there is probably some issues with the plugin, so anyone who just wants to record desktop and camera seperately... You can do this 👍🏻
Thank you!! I've tried several other videos but none of them worked for me - this method did tho!
Wow this is a huge help! Thank you for the presentation too
(@4:20) How do we set up hotkeys for the Record Mode "None" option?
ABSOLUTELY AMAZING VIDEO!!!!!! SUCH A HELP!!!
i have a quick question, everytime i lauch a recodring with this running, so that i can get my camera recorded appart from my gameplay, OBS crashes and i can never recover the footage coz it's gets corrupted when obs can't end the recording properly pls help!!
following having same problem
same
Michael! You always find the best OBS plugins! How you do it, beyond me. Mostly, I’m appreciative of your creative output.
i can get it to work but if i record a 20 second video the camera is missing a few seconds and the display is almost cut in half. anyone have a idea on what i did wrong?
I've looked for a long time on how to do this. Thank you!
Glad to help!
Thank you! Finally I can record videos with webcam and decide later whether to leave the cam in or not 😊
Did this work out?
After I installed source record for Mac OBS Studio crashed and will not reopen.
I've trashed it, re-installed several times and it still crashed on start up.
delete the obs folder in your system directory make sure its uninstalled then and reinstall
Should you use some sort of multicam video recorder or even just separate hard drives for doing multiple cameras?
Wow this sounds like the thing I have been needing.
I did install it on my mac but it didn't show on the filter tab any help ?e
First 💪🏻🔥🔥🔥🇩🇴
Sweet
Excellent and elegant solution! Thanks, my brother
When going into effect filters I don't see an option to add Source Record. (I don't even see half of the effect filters you have on your drop down menu in my OBS)
You need to download the source record feature in the obs app, the link is in the description
And make sure to add the source record in the obs app files
I need your help. I appreciate all of your videos and have been watching you for years. I'm trying to find a video on how to transition from a small screen into fullscreen but I can't find it anywhere. For example, if I want my face to be in the bottom corner of the screen, I want to be able to transition it to fullscreen or move it to the other side of the screen in real time. How is this affectdone? Can you provide me with a link to one of your videos explaining this please.
When your showing the results, its buffering. Is that cause of the at that time recording software had problems or is it the results for real. I really like to know that cause this seems usefull for me, so thx for showing ❤.
Ok… so. Got everything done in the video as you stated, I have an M3 Apple chip Mac, have my iPad plugged in as a second display. When I hit record it only records the camera feed and not the second display. Only creates 2 files, the camera feed one with audio, then an MKV file of the same video feed only silent with a date and time.
What am I missing Mac Users?
Michael thank you. What software do you use to edit?
Once I downloaded the installer and I am trying to download it, it doesnt give me the option of where to install it, theres just an install button. And the filter is not showing up in my obs, what do I do?
Thanks for the info my friend! I’m going to try this out! 👍🏻👍🏻
In audio i want to to add to camera my mic and onother 1 option discord other mix but you can not . only one in every recorde source snene. because in other record source i have only my gameplay.
great tutorial, wish you covered the "Stream" setting, I can't find any documentation on it.
How do I get the sound from the face cam to only have sound from the mic and the screen recording to only have sound from the screen? So that I can lower and adjust when editing.
OBS allows multi track audio recording
I don't get it to work/installed on my Macbook Pro (M1 Pro) I'm running OBS 28.0.3? Anyone with the same problems?
obs is just recording my desktop and not my camera, I changed the encoder it did not work help
There's something you miss that I'm hoping you can address.
Min 8:59 How do I change the output quality settings of the 3rd output, which is the mix of the desktop & webcam mixed together, all-in-one?
My webcam output: High quality
My desktop output: High quality
My mixed webcam + desktop: Horrible. How do I edit the quality of THIS 3d file?
i simply cannot get it to work i did everything and it wont record the assets separately
Great video Michael! Can you do a video on connecting OBS to the Rodecaster Pro II, mirrorless camera connected to computer via usb 1&2 with muti-tracking. Thats my setup but I'm having issues getting things to work. Are you familiar? Thank you!
Pretty straight forward. I'll look forward to watch more tutorials in the future.
Also I was wondering, do you know of any similar plugin that exports the audio sources as mp3 files? That would be great for editing purposes.
OBS Studio records multitracked audio, but for exporting audio, I think there is a feature for that, I'm not sure.
Amazing video!! Thank you so much. Just a quick question: can we record 2 scenes at the same time? (They have different formats: One is 9:16 and the other 16:9)
Is there a way to work around the audio ducker on these video sources? I use duckers a lot and unfortunately the recordings have the fluctuating audio in them.
Use cross fade in the transition.
I got a 4080 which i use to stream in obs for Twitch und TH-cam. Do you recommend my GPU or CPU for recording my facecam and my gameplay. got the i7 13700 KF
Question, How do I get my screen record to record my mouse pointer as well, Great video btw, thank you, was and is a great help. Marc from BluestreekCustoms TH-cam.
Does it work for multiple scenes?
