This tut was a godsend. No more having to 3840x1080 and splitting the screen in post. Thank Exeldro over at OBS for creating this and for you bringing this to the masses! Is there a way to record only the separate sources and not the combined video?
I assume you got an answer by now, but incase anyone else new is checking the chat. Yes you can have the source record to record "always" and then go to hotkeys and set it up when to enable and disable source record on specified keys. This avoids having the record on "stream", "record" or "Stream or record" criteria.

I was stuck and frustrated on why the sources weren't recording individually, or only some recorded here and there, pretty randomly. Your tip of setting up different encoders for the master recording as opposed to the source recording and the file name hack combined with me adding a separate folder for projects, really made the difference and I can now confidently record any project and know it's going to be recorded just as planned. You got yourself a new subscriber! Thanks for this
this seems to not work for me. i am recording the 2 sources (game/cam) but both recordings are my entire scene, gameplay, cam alerts, subcounts, etc..

I tried using different encoders but nothing seems to work. Half the time the recording lags alot. And other times obs just crashes....
Wow, this is seriously the best way to do it. For a long time I've used another approach by recording a super wide video with my cam on the left and my desktop recording on the right. Super easy to combine in my editing software but also super inconvenient when trying to stream at the same time (since it's super wide). I was really looking for a another way of doing so and it seems I finally found it. And it was perfectly explained! I can see you know your business. So kudos to you sir and big thanks for the help!

Another way is to just duplicate the recording ontop of the original and just mask out everything besides your face cam

@@MichaelFeyrerJr Got it working but I can only get it to do dual iso recording in 1080p but not 4k. My base, my output, and my camera are all 4k. But the source record only seems to allow 1080p exports
When going into effect filters I don't see an option to add Source Record. (I don't even see half of the effect filters you have on your drop down menu in my OBS)
You need to download the source record feature in the obs app, the link is in the description
And make sure to add the source record in the obs app files
im struggling with using this for reaction videos, the camera recording is ok but the screen recording is out of sync with the show im watching. any idea what bitrate i should change that too? thanks

i have a quick question, everytime i lauch a recodring with this running, so that i can get my camera recorded appart from my gameplay, OBS crashes and i can never recover the footage coz it's gets corrupted when obs can't end the recording properly pls help!!

Bro I’ve been trying to figure this out for like 2 years hahaha. Thank u for making this so simple and actually fixing this for me😂 I got prob 30-50 hours of awesome clips and videos. That r messed up in some way. Bad overlays. Messed up audio. Or something. Btw for anybody else doing this U may need to reinstall OBS for it to work.
I don't get it to work/installed on my Macbook Pro (M1 Pro) I'm running OBS 28.0.3? Anyone with the same problems?

This is exactly what I was looking for to create higher quality content on my gaming channel without having to do constant cropping on one recording to make edits! Still works great in 2024!
Great video. I have a Mac so maybe makes this a bit different but when I play back my gameplay or cam record, I hear both the audio from mic and capture card. Can I isolate it so the stream record does both. cam is only my mic and gameplay is only the gameplay (PS5). Thanks!
You can record them on separate audio tracks.
a lot of these files have viruses attached. before downloading any file I recommend running it through virus total. the initial zip file did not show a virus but when I extracted it and dragged the install file in virus total it showed a virus. That sucks because I really wanted this plug in. A lot of the plug ins for OBS have a virus attached to it.
None of these files have a virus attached. they are all open source and you can see the source code for yourself. Why would you even say something like this?
I need your help. I appreciate all of your videos and have been watching you for years. I'm trying to find a video on how to transition from a small screen into fullscreen but I can't find it anywhere. For example, if I want my face to be in the bottom corner of the screen, I want to be able to transition it to fullscreen or move it to the other side of the screen in real time. How is this affectdone? Can you provide me with a link to one of your videos explaining this please.

How do I get the sound from the face cam to only have sound from the mic and the screen recording to only have sound from the screen? So that I can lower and adjust when editing.

Whats your internet like to be able to record at 60000 🤣🤣 i stream at 6000kbs and use this plugin at 8000. I wonder if i could push it even further for a more crisp looking recording

obs is just recording my desktop and not my camera, I changed the encoder it did not work help

Your a life saver... I found videos on this that make you split your video inputs on separate halves of the screen and crop them out afterwards in Premier. But I stream all my content, record it while doing so, and edit/upload it into a video... This is the ONLY way I can still stream good looking content and also record it in separate video channels for independent editing later! Thank you!

i can get it to work but if i record a 20 second video the camera is missing a few seconds and the display is almost cut in half. anyone have a idea on what i did wrong?

I just did this same set up on my daughter's computer (same set up as mine) cant get the separate audio. Gameplay picks up mic audio and webcam picks up both mic and gameplay audio. It's been highly frustrating. I set everything the same as mine and it's not working.
If the audio is playing through your speakers the microphone will pick it up … wear headphones.
@@MichaelFeyrerJr headphones are hooked up. Weird thing too, when I play the gameplay file thru a media player, the game play audio is there, when I play the file in an edit program like capcut, the audio is gone and only the mic audio is present.
When I go to filter, source record isn’t an option, I dont have nearly as many options
You have to download the software and then make sure it's applied to your OBS

How do I set/ensure the resolution of the individual clips is accurate? The main recording is the perfect resolution of 5400x1920 (5 webcams vertically mounted) but the clips are 640x360 when they should be 1920x1080.

I accidentally stumbled upon this video, so I would like share how I do this with no plugin... I take my 1920x1080 monitor, and my camera (also 1920x1080)... Then I make a base canvas by adding the horizontal pixel values, that is 1920 + 1920 = 3840. Therefore, my base canvas becomes = 3840x1080... I keep the desktop record at left, and camera at right... Also I make two seperate channels for both mic and desktop audio. This can be good if you are only recording... But I guess the video provides more than just that... Also there is probably some issues with the plugin, so anyone who just wants to record desktop and camera seperately... You can do this 👍🏻
Things were working just fine but all of a sudden whenever I activate the webcam source record OBS starts to lag like crazy, the CPU is only at 5% but it still struggles. Any ideas?
Just to came to say this is one of the worst Plug Ins I've ever used. Nothing but issues since I've started using it and it's sad seeing so many people push it out like it's the best thing in the world.
Corrupted MP4 files, freezes MKV files, horrendous video quality regardless of settings, caused my regular record button to also get bad lag and skipped frames. Don't waste your time on this pos plug in!
I have set this up in the same way but both the audio and the video footage seem to lose a lot of quality for some reason.
Anyone have any suggestions?

Is there a way to work around the audio ducker on these video sources? I use duckers a lot and unfortunately the recordings have the fluctuating audio in them.
Use cross fade in the transition.

Streamlabs does not support plugins as far as I know.

I am completely lost and frustrated. Although I’m sure you’re great at teaching techies,alot, I guess I’m not in that caliber, and feel really defeated. I’ve been trying to record two video files at once, and I can’t even download and find the doggone source record! By the time I get this, I’ll be too old and grey to do reaction videos!

I was just looking for a solution on how to record OBS sources separately and this is the 3rd video I watched showing this plugin.
Even though this plugin seems to offer what I'm looking for, it seems that a lot of users are reporting issues while using it.
Not to mention that it seems to be very performance heavy like notable in your video!
I wish OBS would come with something like this by default, more intuitive in handling and without stability issues.

Hey Michael, just wondering if it's possible to stream with NVIDIA Broadcast which removes the background for streaming but record the full camera with background in the background?

Can I do Source Record, with 6 different sources, on a replay buffer. Cant seem to get it to work.
I tried this and got it, but when I record my gameplay frame rate just slows down and when I watched the content back it lags like no one's business, have no clue what I'm doing wrong. Followed exactly what you did as well. I'm fairly new to this and want to start uploading gameplay to YT
I set this up for both filters settings match up perfectly but... my gameplay recording is not as long as my camera recording. For test runs when I finished recording for 5 minutes, my camera clip was 5 minutes which is good, but the gameplay was only records about 30 seconds if that. I've been testing out different encoders and other options available but then obs stops recording my gameplay entirely and just records the camera even with filter settings back to where I started. I stopped using the filter due to the hassle but if anyone has tips, please let me know. If there is another way to record multiple sources at once that would help very much.
My game recording is capturing ALL audio (game/mic) and then my camera audio isn't capturing anything even though I have that particular filter set to pick up my mic interface. What am I missing?
ok. so.. instead of doing a new stream key etc during all of this (i want to do this but while streaming) can i just press the start recording button when i start stream? or....hmmm. i run the NVENC new. obs 27.4.2???? and on one pc setup. (3060 so pretty ok....) i mainly use just one camera, 4 screens. anywho....would that work? or am I just being weird?

So using this plugin gives you x3 video files on several gigabytes instead of just opening two instances of OBS and record everything separately? Or can you select somewhere to not record the main window and only the sources? This seems very over the top to me.

Ok… so. Got everything done in the video as you stated, I have an M3 Apple chip Mac, have my iPad plugged in as a second display. When I hit record it only records the camera feed and not the second display. Only creates 2 files, the camera feed one with audio, then an MKV file of the same video feed only silent with a date and time.
What am I missing Mac Users?

So how can I only pick up audio from my mic for the camera and audio for only gameplay for my gameplay . I tried applying it as shown but it just records all audio on both separate files
Doesn't seem to work with replay buffer. I dont like recording constantly so I have always used a 6 minute replay buffer to clip interesting things. Unfortunately this alternative source recording doesn't trigger from replay buffer button since nothing was recording or streaming during that duration.
