    Great share. I'm just starting a grow set up for crypts. Don't have much space so it is all in a rack in the shower. (I don't use the shower for me) My plan is to use dirt with gravel cap and water to top of gravel.

    I love your content. I have a couple similar tubs going and some of my own experiments my riverine tank I use bottom 1/2 gravel and fluvel stratum as top soil a small heater to raise humidity and I run my water just a little higher than high enough to moisten the stratum this works well for buce green wavy, anubias nana, crypt parva , I have frog bit in the free spaces to pull excess nutrients to slow algae.

    May I suggest that you change the output of the pump in the riverine system to a spray bar that spans the width of the tank? I'm pretty sure the current is somewhat channeled and there's an oily film on the surface.

    • @AquariumPlantLab
      @AquariumPlantLab  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s just due for a water change. After a water change there isn’t much algae or film for several weeks. That said I have wanted to experiment with an automated spray/mister system, similar to a spray bar. Would work excellent for Anubias and essentially automate foliar spraying. Just not in the budget at the moment 😊

      @@AquariumPlantLab I'm just talking about a piece of pipe or hose with holes (if you like the idea).
      Still, pretty cool. I'm starting my emersed Java fern box based on your videos.

    • @AquariumPlantLab
      @AquariumPlantLab  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The pump is the issue. It doesn’t have enough flow to generate the pressure needed. Would still probably be an improvement though!
      Awesome! Good luck with your ferns. What kind of substrate?

    • @flutescope

      @@AquariumPlantLabAbout 60% soil + peat moss, 30% vermiculite and 10% fine sand. I just recently started experimenting with vermiculite I really like how it prevents moist soil from caking. Over the years I've found that a pinch of fine sand helps preventing clumping, which is kind of the same as caking but on a smaller scale that happens between the cake-breakers (gravel, perlite, whatever). And of course, peat is king in water retention and nutrient binding, and I think if gives off some CO2 as it slowly breaks down.

    I breed black molly and the only plant that does well in my tanks is a stem plant that I don't know the name of. I've tried other plants with no success. I introduced anubias a year and a half ago and they are still doing good. I will be buying plants from you soon.

    The plants look great! I want to do something like that in my garage but the summer months down here in FL are brutal. I would have to add some kind of climate control during those months. 🤔

    • @AquariumPlantLab
      @AquariumPlantLab  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks! I have the opposite problem up here. It is expensive to heat the "warehouse". We had several weeks this winter in the teens. Energy bill was not ideal. I was heating the space until recently when I switched over to heating the individual tubs. Far more economical that way.

    I suggest that you put some dwarf shrimps so that algae minimize in spreading around you hydroponic set up

    • @AquariumPlantLab

      That would be cool but shrimp would not do well in the hydroponic fertilizer solution 🌱

    I've watched all of your videos and love your content! Just wondering what strength the nutrient solution is in terms of EC/PPM. I have been growing anubias in a system similar to your riverine setup but growth has been a bit slow, I've never had any issues with algae so honestly think I'm being too conservative with my nutrients. I don't live in America so I have been using a generic dry NPK and trace element fertiliser. Any advice?

    • @AquariumPlantLab
      @AquariumPlantLab  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't monitor EC, though I want to try monitoring that at some point in the future. I just don't have the cash to afford a quality instrument at the moment. What I do is monitor nitrate. With hydroponic ferts you can assume that all of the necessary ferts are there in balance, but you need to maintain concentration. I shoot for 50ppm or so nitrate in the water, then assume everything else is balanced. Regardless of reading I typically change water 100% every 3-4 weeks.

    thanks a lot. that was very helpful. I have 2 question:
    1) is the best color for hydroponic system white?
    2) could we use aquarium fertilizer instead of hydroponic fertilizer in hydroponic system ?
    I will really appreciate that if you answer my questions.
    😀

    • @AquariumPlantLab
      @AquariumPlantLab  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ve done some research and I don’t believe there is much of a difference between white or purple grow lights, that said I’ve never personally tested them. I mainly go with white because I make these videos and purple would be harsh on camera. You could certainly use aquarium ferts in a hydro system, however, they are much more diluted than hydroponic ferts so you’d have to use way more to get similar results. If you want to make your money go further I would invest in a small thing of hydroponic ferts. Much more economical that way.

    • @mohammadrezahajiabootalebi8834
      @mohammadrezahajiabootalebi8834 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AquariumPlantLab thanks. I made it. have tested with aquarium fertilizer and it worked well. unfortunately the "DYNA_GRO" fertilizer that you've showed or all of hydroponic fertilizer brands are very expensive. at least 5 times more expensive than aquarium fertilizer. its my honor to have a corporation in order to produce hydroponic fertilizer. I live in Iran (Tehran).I'd like to know your idea about the investment heartily.🙂

    • @AquariumPlantLab
      @AquariumPlantLab  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hydroponic ferts are far more economical for the concentration of fertilizers you get. Might be more expensive per ounce but you’ll get far more gallons of water treated to equal ppm values. There’s some math involved but ultimately if you want say 100ppm nitrate in your water, hydro ferts will be wayyyy more economical than liquid aquarium ferts. Take a look at maxigro. That’s a good economical option.

    • @AquariumPlantLab

      I have lots of videos on that setup. Basically yes, about an inch of standing water. No airstone. Water is changed about once a month. All of the plants are sprayed with a hydroponic solution daily.
