I bought a 4L Wrangler unseen in Lowestoft, l got the train down from Leeds and when driving the thing l had trouble staying on my side of the road, it was like steering a boat. I took it straight to my garage the next day & the mechanic pronounced it 100%! Vague is not the word for the steering on these things, l later bought a '98 Cherokee and that was the same. 😂
My wife had a 2015 B class merc, we had multiple issues with it. Not starting again after just being driven, totally dead some times, replaced ECU, keys etc. We managed to get it to run OK to get to a dealer and sell it. Pretty sure they had a massive surprise. Swapped it for a Q3, lot better car.
@ChopsGarage chops, we both can't believe the car managed to behave for that hand over day. We loved Mercs up until that bloody B Class. When it comes to cars, all's fair in love and war.
Hello from Ireland again, James. I thought you're Wife wanted this Jeep, lol. Or mabey not? Nice driver. I liked that B-Class, Merc, beautiful first Car, someone is very lucky. Jesus, what a very Cool, Mitsubishi, i never saw one before, and 4 door's. Lovely clean Van, James lol. 👌👏👏👏👏👏
My wife had one of those Mirages, a manual 2016 Juro in Purple Berry with the cloth interior. Aside of an issue with the keyless system complaining for some reason (fixed under warranty) and a fault with the rear washer jet after about five years of ownership, it was absolutely fine, though she did need something bigger in the end. They come with quite a lot of kit but given they were £13k in 2016, they needed to - electric windows all round, rear parking sensors, electrically folding mirrors, auto lights and wipers, keyless entry and go, heated front seats and a decent sound system (I think a touchscreen and an even better sound system were options as well as the leather seats). I don't believe the UK spec came with the bumper DRLs, so it uses the fog lights as DRLs, however when the headlights are on, the little strip above them takes over DRL duties which seems odd. I believe they were tuned better for UK roads over the pre-2016 models, and I think the auto is a CVT.
Yes auto is CVT, though not as well sorted as a Toyota one. Very much acts like a 2 spd auto, so revs to gain speed, then drops to the highest ration possible, often before you really want it to, but there is a sport mode that keeps the revs up if you want to get on a bit faster. Early Mirage's were a bit shocking to drive, Juro onwards is better, but never going to be accused of being a drivers car. I found it actually quite good on a motorway run, settles down nicely with the cruise control on.
On that wet belt fiesta mate I'd include free AA cover, if it goes bang tell the AA man to take it straight to ford. I'd get a cheap borascope, drain the oil and have a look round, strainer, belt, 25 quid off the Internet, if it all looks sound your quids in, thank me later, ha, ha.
I did love the little Mercedes, I have always had big engine car mostly BMW’s or Mercedes but need to slow down and get a little car, being my last car was a ML320 it’s big or small change how every you want to look at it and living in London I’m in the low emission zone and I had enough paying £12.50 to get it on the tarmac, the only reason I never made contact regarding the B class was the distance. But I might have to do a bit of travelling to get what I need, I need an Auto to due to my hip has gone. Sorry my suggestion regarding the door locking never worked out for you.
Be careful about offering things for sale bud, ie that jeep before they're roadworthy, I've had trading standards round on the pitch checking cars up for sale, jacked em up and gave them an mot. Few years ago, maybe they're not as keen now, but you've got to be careful. A few bits and bobs on a late car is no problem, but stuff like that jimney and jeep can be bud.
Might be a worn steering box on that jeep bud, not cheap, maybe that put the guy off the other day. That's one of those cars I'd want a full mot on before I offered it up for sale, late cars OK, probably not much wrong, but an old 2001,could have anything up with it. I'd have took it for a test as the first job.
Here's s story for you Mot passed 12 days ago advisory free obviously yesterday get in the car boing front spring snaps. 64 plate only suspension thing I didnt replace this past year. 😂
That Mitsubishi is a bonny thing but haven't you had problems getting parts for them in the past? I remember that white one you had when you were in the shared unit caused a few headaches parts wise
Yes they have a box on them bud, maybe an adjustment screw, re con ones are expensive. I used to take up the play on my volvo p1800 steering box, I was always doing it.
The Jeep Wrangler is by far the worst thing I’ve ever driven. We had one at our body shop I worked at and drove back to customer and it was like the steering wheel was not connected to anything. It was only 6 months old.
We had one in and it was the most thirsty car we've had, on par with a v12 jag, without the performance. Sold it to a local farmer who didn't seem to mind tho.
@@ChopsGarageIt shouldn’t matter irregardless… As you have valid insurance, you should be all good to go. At the least, it wasn’t a problem when I worked in a dealership back in 2019; I know a sales driver for the dealership I worked at took home a car overnight on a trade plate, nothing happened; would anyone be so naive enough to believe that our rule and law makers themselves follow the rules they expect the rest of us to live by?
Don't want to be a pita mate, but that mot history on the jeep looks scetchy, loads and loads of failures, loads of advisory, no pass, then later on a few fails, then an advisory free mot, which seems very doubtful, last March, shades of the jimney tbh bud, let's hope it's OK for you. Tbh how your fixed I'd be giving the old rotters a miss, if it's one thing that can put you and your mot centre in the sh*t it's old, rusty cars.
interesting comment. Indeed the mot fail showed significant structural corrosion. Six days later and presumably some welding.......gone! But could a lack of rigidity make the steering vague?
Made my kids learn on manual so they have the choice in future of owning a classic. Also, they’re going to do bike licence as well so understanding gears is a bonus.
A recently seen statement was that in the U.S, to prevent your car from being stolen, only drive one with a manual gearbox. The reason being that the evil-doers have no idea how to drive them.! As most cars are automatics in both America and Canada. !
It used to be that you can can but you cannot drive a manual without l plates and a qualified driver with you. It may be different now. I passed my test a long time ago, Fred Flintstone was my driving instructor.
They can, but then they only have an automatic licence and cannot drive manuals. Insurance tends to be a little more expensive for people with auto only licences.
great videos good tips and pete's a great handy bloke to have around👍

I think the Jeep would go down well as a raffle car. 👍🏼

Funny isn't it. Not dig at you. But in this industry we are the wronguns but it's accepted to dump cars on dealers

Driving down those lanes reminded me of the many times going to my parent's caravan at Twitchen park, Woolacombe in the 1990s.
Nice job on the we van! Looks quite respectable now. Love the channel chops
Thanks 👍

Just noticed the Jeep has a barcode for the Mersey crossing at Runcorn. Down the road from me😂
A quick and easy video brought some light onto an otherwise grey boring Monday. Thank you. Alan B
Glad you enjoyed it
Mad times when you cant get a 20 year old auto for less than 3 grand.
Put an advert locally bud, any auto bought, best prices paid, working or not. Cvts a speciality, ha, ha.

Very nice little car that mitsi. Very kia looking in design. Cant see it taking long to sell once prepped
Jeep would be a great raffle car
The only Merc I would ever buy is one with a manufacturers warranty, big money pits otherwise.
An old W123 would be nice if you knew a good mechanic
Good work lads 👍
Kids might be safer in it , but what about those that they hit with it????
If it was the jeep it's very likely to roll and without a roof it wouldn't be good.
What are Merc like for parts costs? A 20 year old one as a first car sounds interesting.

£1900 for a years insurance for a new driver is pretty good going!
It is thesedays. It's £1900 to insure a 125cc motorcycle for a 20 year old.

It's never had anything more than brake pads and service items, but no issues getting those - can't speak to anything else, it never went wrong!
Passed my test in an old defender (series 2) 51 years ago that Jeep is a luxury car compared to that. 😂
Lol
Maybe scan the auctions bud for autos, even with delivery it'll be worth it.
Great video as always. The ford van looks great James. Glad you have sold a few cars, hopefully a few more fly out the door.
Probably got a steering box
Has adjustment on them, but need to be careful when adjusting, as there’s only so much

@derekfleming3095 totally right, you could get either accuracy at the centre and couldn't turn the car or loads of free play (!)

that Lanoguard stuff any good chops??
Yes it's brilliant.......
Use it once or twice a year.
Our peugeot 308 going in for mot in an hour, our mechanic says will pass ok, let's see. Our mechanic, his wife is our vicar, totally trustworthy.

I'm not sure what you mean? I'm trying the Jeep out why can I not drop someone off on way to work?

Well as all hybrids are auto and electric cars are classed as auto it will get difficult to take a test in a manual before long.
