  • This Video was shot in October of 2013. At the Nevada Northern Railway. I had Permission from the railroad to ride here. I got to ride the two active lines that they had, one at which is 11 miles one way and another one 8 miles.

      strake750 Come on down! We've plenty of space. You Brits nail the land speed records; would like to see the railrider you come up with. : )

      I was born here in the USA and have lived in various parts of the country. Some areas are pretty horrible. The US is a good place to live if you have enough money to buy opportunity.

    This looks like it'd be so much fun! The enclosed speeders look fun too, but being out in open seems like a more complete sensory experience. Thank you so much for sharing!

    Very nice rail cart, looks like a blast. Would love to build one but live in Pahrump with no railroad tracks around.

    Made that journey many times on the steam train in both directions from Ely. Cold weather, snowy weather, hot weather. Would recommend it. Its even worth a trip up from Vegas to see more of Nevada than just the strip in Vegas. Stay at the Hotel Nevada for a special treat in Ely.

    So Cool! There is this old idea of a hover train that uses standard rails , patent 3013505 . How hard would it be to make a rail speeder that works like this ?

    • @Eriks191
      @Eriks191  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      ufoengines it is not too hard if you have good welding skills. It’s not cheap, it all adds up and the wheels can be pricy. You can find an entire kit for sale here. Railriders.net

    I think you have the best set up out there for rail cart. Especially the frame. I like the get home pedal option and the larger wheels. Could you tell us approx unloaded weight and did you ever wish for more recumbent seat? Did you build frame? Thanks DW

    • @Eriks191
      @Eriks191  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      antonia weeks yes I built the frame and with out motor two adults can pick it up and put in in truck. My friend builds the wheels and also sells an aluminum frame not as custom as mine but still works great. Check him out at railrider.net

    has anyone made a solar powered cart? seems like you could make a roof over the top out of solar panels (helps protect from the sun too). Nice and quiet compared to the gas powered engines.

      Well for one thing, the man who made the wheels for me is no longer making them but before i got these wheels i went down to Les Schwab tire center and got 4 12" trailer rims and modified them to run on the rail and they worked great at low speeds. when i put the motor on the wheels didnt work as great and they were a little loud going down the track. Also if you are making an all pedal one then make sure to add a idler sprocket so that when you are not peddling the peddles dont keep going around. If you have any more question and have a facebook take a look and ask questions on the Rail rider facebook page there are guys from all over with all different kinds even guys selling theres. here is the link. facebook.com/pages/Rail-Riders/116498241847101

      Eriks, I appreciate the quick response. The hobby looks like a blast! Thanks for the info about the wheels. Sorry I am not on FB, but I do have a couple of train boards on Pinterest.com/torosucre. How about getting permission from one of the local short line RR's that are seasonal? I wouldn't know where to start since everyone is worried about liability these days. Again...I very much appreciate the info. If I find someone to mill some new wheels I will forward that on to you.
