I have to mention this...I read once about a critic, who when he first hear the 5th Symphony, said that after hearing it he went to put on his hat "but couldn't find my head." Fifty years ago when I first heard this work I couldn't find my head either, and I wasn't wearing a hat. This work leaves me breathless every time I hear it!

A big part of it is the recording equipment, but if you don't have good sound, it won't translate well in the recording. I think it's less quality live at the theatre than in the recording but it's still definitely world class. This is my favourite symphony and conductor.

Mr. Duchamp commented that this performance is played with "open strings", and he misses the vibrato usually heard; even so, he gives it a general thumbs-up. So do I...and certainly it is a matter of taste, whether vibrato or not...but I find this open-string approach to be eminently expressive. Many of us are "old" enough to remember how the more "traditional" interpretations sounded...and it is very refreshing to hear these flatter tones, the crisper tempi, and the resulting clarity; check out the 3rd set, when the basses and celli enter with their rapid fugal theme; what once sounded like so many tiddelywinks falling on the floor now has total order. Oh yes, another superlative HR Orchestra/Orozco- Estrada achievement! JAT

It's just so mind bending that any human could come up with just these certain placing of notes and instruments together. The themes, developments, harmonies, assigning of certain notes and little supporting figures large and small to the different voices of the orchestra. Incredible genius. And people who know nothing of all this fabulous world of great music Do know when a work is great, and when it's not so great. What an incredible blessing that Beethoven, Mozart, Schubert, Schumann, Strausses, Wagner, and a few others were given the heavenly gift of musical genius, that they might then enrich all our lives. • @conbrio825
      @conbrio825 3 ปีที่แล้ว

Hören Sie hier th-cam.com/video/de7QndXj5is/w-d-xo.html mal rein.

Was heißt "stilechter"?

Bravo HR!!!! Nada tem a dever a BPO. When I first began listening to symphonies, there was Toscanini and Koussevitzky, and I was more taken with the latter's Romantic, emotional way with them than with the former's Classically-oriented precision which I thought lacked warmth. Orozco-Estrada's Beethoven definitely falls into the Toscanini tradition; he drives this most famous of all symphonies without mercy, with a strength and fury which seems to lack the heart and soul which other interpretations capture, the aforementioned Koussevitzky among them. My favorite recording of the stereo era is Karl Bohm's with the Vienna Philharmonic, which brings both the power and the more tender emotions as I'm sure Beethoven wished, as it's surely in the score.

Bonsoir.

This performance is bad. You obviously didn't listen to Carlos Kleiber's version. Here it is so listen, there is no better performance than this version: th-cam.com/video/RKcAAA1O2sc/w-d-xo.html

@@rastkojacimovic9727 I feel for people who can only like one thing, and everything else, for them, is bad; apparently they see one thing white and everything else black, no colors, no shades, no forms. Poor people. In humble my opinion, while Carlos Kleiber's rendition of the fifth is absolutely wonderful, among the best ever recorded, there are some other approaches that cast new light and new shine on art. It is art, after all, no cold arithmetic with one single correct answer, right?
Not long ago, a BBC magazine asked some one hundred of the leading conductors alive to vote for the 20 greatest of all time. As expected, these professionals only considered votes for conductors who left recordings, leaving aside conductors from the past even if their names were legend. Carlos Kleiber was named by his peers the greatest of all time, above Abbado, Von Karajan, Bernstein, Klemperer or Shostakovich; so, comparing (just to disqualify) every performance againts the equivalent by Kleiber, sounds a little fanatic and may not be very encouraging for those in the craft.

    • @rastkojacimovic9727

@@1117Sancho First of all, imagine my opinion as fanatical even though you don't know what you mean. Second, you asked a question; namely, that there are no answers that are right and wrong when it comes to art. They don't seem to have heard of aesthetics - a philosophical discipline that deals with, among other things, issues of this kind. You have asked your question in the form of a rhetorical question, and you have already assumed the answer, and that is that there is no right or wrong answer when it comes to aesthetic judgments. First, not everyone thinks so. Immanuel Kant, one of the greatest estheticians, believes that aesthetic judgments are objective, and that when I judge that something is beautiful, I have the right to ask others to agree with my claim, because there are objective criteria on the basis of which aesthetic courts. In other words, Kant thinks that aesthetic judgments are objective, not subjective as is usually naively assumed.
He dealt with this in his Critique of the Power of Judgment. And, besides, what you claimed - namely, that there are no right and wrong answers to aesthetic questions - stems from that naive assumption that tastes should not be discussed. If we accepted that, then aesthetics would not even exist. Also, I did not fanatically claim anything, but expressed my opinion. And now I ask you, how did you come to the conclusion that there is no color or other art forms of expression in Kleiber's interpretation? The list you are talking about is ridiculous, because the conductors you mentioned are not even close to the best. Abado is a horribly bad conductor. My favorite conductor is Sergiu Celibidache. Listen, for example, to his interpretations of Bruckner and everyone else, and you will see why he is the best conductor, as well as other works. I’m not saying all his interpretations are the best, but some are unattainable. as, for example, interpretations of Bruckner's symphonies with his slow tempo in which each individual element develops into one gigantic whole. It is the same with other symphonies and complex works in general. For example, his performance of Dvorak's 9th Symphony or Tchaikovsky's first piano concerto with Barenboim.

@@1117Sancho The three best conductors, in my opinion, are Sergiu Celibidache, Carlos Kleiber and Georg Solti. There are other great ones, but these three are exceptional.

      @1117Sancho 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@rastkojacimovic9727 Generally speaking, there are those who know, and there are those who think they know.
The former have digested knowledge to form criteria, to build up wisdom; they respect and value everyone's point of view. Their opinions are usually full of nouns and verbs, and rarely based on adjectives.
The later base their opinions in qualifications and disqualifications, normally full of adjectives. Often times they go through life with an "I-know-a-lot-because-I've-read-in-every-train-ride" attitude, and quoting some authority, normally out of context, as to support and accommodate their criticism. In doing so they manage to sound erudite (and pedantic) in front of most, but in reality their points rarely withstand a more in-depth analysis.
They forget every big thinker has been contradicted for at least another one just as big or more, if not by the massive evidence of the absurd; and Kant is no exception.
If the aesthetic judgment processes were as objective as you think Kant said, we would have to accept there is one, and exactly only one beautiful woman in the world, for any objective aesthetical judgement would be incompatible with the notion of two different beauties. For your sake, I hope it is your significant one.
Additionally, for somebody who defines himself as NOT having a fanatical opinion, your description of Claudio Abaddo sounds a little drastic, to say the least. Apparently the millions who loved his work, and gave him fame, praise and wealth, were wrong; they should have asked you before hiring him, and paying him money and recognition, right?
Thank God Kant does not say what you think he says (at least not the way you appear to understand it), and by the way, not even you believe it so deeply in your mind, as proven by your two last sentences. There you go subjective when presenting the names of your three (a plural number, which already contradicts your theoretical reasoning) favorite conductors, making crystal clear it is your opinion, and even stating there is a second tier of great conductors.
Well, I have to say I not only respect your subjective opinion, but I also agree that the ones you mention are among the top conductors in recorded history.
I just believe they are not the only ones; conductors have fields of expertise too (certain composers, genres or eras) in which they feel more comfortable and their performances are more pleasant to more people.
I respect the work done by Abbado as a conductor and as a musical director with some of the very best orchestras in the world, including LPO, VPO, BPO and others.
Finally I'm going to come up with a quotation, (something I normally try to stay away of):
In writing this, TS Eliot provided the base of the (later developed) pyramid organization of knowledge, in one of his most celebrated poems: "Where is the wisdom we have lost in knowledge? Where is the knowledge we have lost in information?"

Thank you for this amazing performance 👍 Great understanding of music language, rhetoric, the storytelling. Rare to hear in classical music performances, as most seek perfection in the obvious technicalities - exactness, intonation, starting and finishing together, playing from soft to loud - which are of course necessary parts of music making but usually take away the focus from the main purpose of music composition - which is to speak through music by analysing and understanding that different group of notes represents different words, which need to be connected in a manner to form logical sentences and these sentences need to be connected furthermore to form meaningful stories full of different characters. It should be one of the main subjects in (classical) music education as it is not easy to grasp at all. It's almost but forgotten knowledge.
