Comments are turned off on your "External hydraulics" video - so I came here to say that was a brilliant explanation you offered of how to set it up. Very much appreciated.
Thanks. Hope it works for you.
May God bless your hands sir, a wonderful job.
Thanks for the kind words Noel.
As a TH-cam addict, who falls down the rabbit hole most evenings. That is the best Vid I've seen in years. Thanks, you've made my day. Love the cab totally practical. I've seen that oil scavenge spiral grove before, its under the oil seal for the engine fan pulley on all VW Beetles. Simple but effective. Once again thanks for the Vid.
Thanks Fred for the kind comments. Glad you enjoyed the video, my first TH-cam effort.
Thanks man . My Massey 35 sounds that good so I do not change anything but filters and fluids😂😂😂
Best machine ever for small jobs, so easy to step on and off these tractors and they pull like a train. I had one for turf and replaced it with a 250, the 35 was better geared pulled better. Anyway nice to see it getting a new lease of life and the respect it deserves.
Thanks Nigel.
Great job friend and I appreciate your skills 👍
The most beautiful 35 I've ever seen 😍 and man, what a job that must been!
Greetings from Finland 🇮🇪🇫🇮🍻
Thank you for the generous comment. Much appreciated. Greetings from Ireland.
MF 35-X and 135 were and are very popular all around the globe. Possibly the best small rear wheel drive tractors ever made, with Perkins.
They will live on for years.
Thanks a lot for this video! I am in the process of buying a 35X from 1963 with 4715 hrs on the meeter. Nice to see that there still are parts to find.
Thanks Eskild. Have fun with the 35x.
Greetings from Ireland.
Excellent job on 35, very understated tractor in it's capabilities,I have 1963 35x I use it on a tillage farm, it pulls a 3m harrow with a heavy crumbler on the last run prior to setting, it can drive a 6ft trailed combine, mighty mouse in discise, greetings from tipp
Thanks Leo. Hope all well in Tipp. Sounds like your 35x earns it's keep for sure. Mine mostly tips around, some topping is the hardest work it's sees.
I have just finished adapting my swinging drawbar so I can also use it as a pick up hitch. Another "fun" engineering project!!
Greetings from Longford.
@leo23705 do you use your 35 on a veg farm? Thanks....Tom in USA
First class job thanks for all the detail , love the massy 35 stay safe
Thanks Pat. A lot of work but worth it in the end.
Great presentation of an excellent restoration. If only a cab of that quality was available back in the day!
Thanks. Yea, the cab makes the tractor very comfortable in an Irish climate😀
That tractor is as good as new, an absolute credit to you and a great video.
Thanks. Comment much appreciated.
Superb job, good for another 60+ years.
Hopefully.
Great job on the restoration! Awesome look!
Thanks.
Not what I was looking for, but stayed for the good production!
What an amazing transformation!
Thanks for uploading, I enjoyed it. ;)
Thanks for the positive comment. Glad you enjoyed it.
Bravo belle restauration, je suis propriétaire également d'un Massey Ferguson 835ds à restaurer
Merci. Profitez de votre voyage de restauration.
Excelente. Maestros de la restauración. Saludos desde Antofagasta, Chile 🇨🇱. Feliz de ver tremendo video!
Muchas gracias!
Right smart 35 you got there!
Thanks Calvin.
Wow !! Very nice 👍!
Fantastico 😊 bravissimo 😊 grazie grazie mille 😂😂😂❤❤❤
Thanks. Glad you enjoyed it.
Great Job. I done the same work last year on my 35x
Thanks Gerry.
Great job and very well recorded. The cylinder head was a serious head wrecker!
Sure was🤔.
Thanks for the positive comment.
Great job , putting a great classic back renewed. I did my IMT 539 15 years ago put everything new in the Perkins 3 cly. Diesel engine . 2600 hrs later still running great. The paint has faded a bit .
Thanks. The IMT 539 looks very similar to the MF.
Vary nice work! Really enjoyed the video.
Thanks Ron. Greetings from Ireland 🇮🇪
Looks and sounds mint
Brilliant I brought home 148 today lots of work to reach your standard
Thanks. Enjoy the journey with the 148. They were a real nice tractor.
Lovely tractor and the cab makes it the job
Thanks for the positive comment.
Brilliant video looks great 👍
Thanks Ken.
Tout simplement magnifique ! Superbe restauration !
Thanks Christian.
Great job fair play to ya a lot of work gone into that
Thanks Gary. Yip, lots of time and effort but worth it.
Great video thanks for sharing 👌 👍
Thanks John. It's still a pleasure to get up on it and do some work with it.
I have a 35 my late Father bought new in 63.
It has a Wethershield Cab (dealer fitted in Ireland when new) with very rare rear lights.
İyi çalışma, çok başarılı 👏 wonderful
What a great video. Very well put together, very enjoyable to watch. Great result too. I have a 1960 MF 35 3 cylinder model - they just keep going and going and going. I would love to restore mine to a condition such as yours however, do not have the time (nor skill levels!) at this stage. I acknowledge Lance @ Bundy Bears Shed too - The King of Tractors. Again, Well Done and Greetings from Down Under - Australia 👍👍👍👍
Thanks John.
Yea, the 35 will live forever.
Greetings from Ireland.
Great video! I learned a ton! Thank you, well done restoration!
Good Job 👍 Greets from Austria 👋
Thanks Peter. Have a Merry Christmas.
Fantastic job
Thanks Anthony. Every time I sit up on it now I appreciate all the work that went into it.
@@tmck8133
Any idea how many hours work it was? Or do you even want to know😁
@@mijicmugendo I'd be guessing but probably 600-800 hours. If I had a decent way of cleaning the gunge off the parts (like a vapour degreaser/blaster) I could easily have knocked 100-200 hours of that. I also lost a lot of time on the painting as it was my first time to paint with a spray gun so there were a few unsuccessful attempts, rubbing down and start again.
If I was doing another one it would probably take half the time as I was learning as I went along (and enjoying the journey along the way).
@@tmck8133
You did a marvellous job and jmo , but 6-800 hours doesn't seem to bad for what you ended up with. It nearly looks to good to go out in a field 😁
Very cool.
Thanks Jared.
Nice project! It will last another 50 years.
Thanks Tom. Will certainly see me out.
GreatJob Tommy…….your Dad RIP would be very proud
Thanks for the positive comment Fergal.
U wouldn't believe how much low down torque this small thing has.

Brilliant work and great end result.I can remember bringing in cocks of hay on a 35X in 1966,first tractor I drove solo.
Thanks Pat. We cut single chop with a 35 and a 42" JF harvester in the early 70's. Mind you, it was very slow going.
I cut silage with 42’ JF behind a 65 and that was tough going, TVO 20 drawing and another on the pit. I was 15 back then. Where abouts are you based? I’m in Meath.
@@patwatters8205 TVO 20 - that's what my dad had when I was growing up and what I learned to drive on. IX 1925. It's still around, my brother spotted it a few years back outside a house over near Abbeyshrule. I'm in Longford.
Does your 35 have the live drive back end or how does she run the spool valve, would the lift not drop?
Thanks.
Hi.
Yes, it has a dual clutch live drive on the hydraulic pump.
Great video and great job im in the middle of restoring a fordson super major hopefully getting its first coat of primer tomorrow how did you remove the track end rods as mine need replacing but I can't manage to get them out thanks
Hi Shane. Thanks for the positive comment.
I tried loads of WD40 but that didn't work. In the end I heated them around the thread area with a small gas torch just to loosen the rust and got them out with the track rod in vice and stencil wrench on track rod end. Remember one end has a reverse thread!!
After I got them out the new tract rod ends were very tight so I took one of the old ones and cut a few grooves along the length of the thread with an angle grinder (so it acted like a tap) and ran it in and out many times until the internal threads were free.
Hope it works and best of luck with the rest of the job.
@@tmck8133 thanks for the help hopefully that will work and great job on the restoration👍👍
Nice work. Thank you for the video. I had exactly the same experience with the combustion chamber caps, only got them to seal, when I refitted the old small ones. Your diesel injectors and pump did not need any work or? Regards from Denmark.
Hi from Ireland.
Thanks for the positive comments.
Yea those combustion chamber caps were troublesome.
I had both the pump and injectors checked and they were OK so no I didn't do anything with them.
I must be the only man on the planet who pulled off a Massey 135 steering wheel by hand, granted it did bend it but I was replacing it anyway
Fair dues to you Paddy 💪💪😄
Just asking what did you make your makeshift oven out off
Hi
I made a timber frame from 2" x 1 1/2" timber and covered it with aluminium bubble wrap insulated foil that I had over from a campervan conversion. I just stapled the foil to the timber frame and sealed the joints with tape. I used a simple heater as the heat source. Be careful not to use any electrical/naked flame type heated as paint fumes and naked flames are not a good mix!!
@@tmck8133 ok thanks
Do you do just for yourself or for other people?
Or you know of anybody around the Leitrim area that does type of work
Tks
And a absolutely amazing job you did 👍🏻
Hi Gabriel. Thanks for the comment.
I just done up my own tractor.
Don't know anyone around Leitrim area. I know a few lads locally (Granard area) who might be interested but that's probably too far away for you.
Hi bought a 135 there and I'm getting it done up by a mechanic but we're getting a machinery shed on out farm and want to do up a tractor I was thinking a 35 or a t20 and I am wondering out of the two which is the easiest as I want to learn on the job thanks great video
Hi Oisin.
Not a lot of difference I'd say. The t20 would probably be the easiest but you may learn more (for example about the dual clutch and live hydraulics) by doing up a 35. Either are a good project.
Hope this helps and have fun.
Just seen this.
Absolutely brilliant.
Have you had it on a dyno yet?
Thanks.
No, no dyno test.
Just a 6ft topper in rushes😂
Just wondering where abouts did you get the cab
Hi
I bought the cab from a company called Valdi Machinery Sales in Carrick on Shannon, Ireland. He imports them from Poland I believe (could be another Eastern European country, I'm not sure).
Link is www.donedeal.ie/dealer/valdi-machinery-sales-ltd.
There are a few others selling them in Ireland, like W&E Shirley in Co Laois, but Valdi were closest to me.
Hope this helps.
Can someone point me where I can get workshop manual for my massey ferguson 35x ,I believe it is 64 model ,3cyl diesel .
Sorry for the late reply (I must have missed your comment). If you want to send me an email address I will send you the pdf I have - almost 400 pages and very detailed..
Hello Tom what did you Use to remove the paint on your Massey also did you use much oil for paint cheers
Hi Stephen. I didn't remove all the old paint. If it was sound then I didn't see much point in removing and going back to bare metal. I used various wire brush tools in an electric drill to remove any loose paint. Anything that didn't come off with the mechanical brushing is not going to fall off later.
I then gave the parts a good cleaning with paint thinners to remove any oil/grease/contamination just before applying the primer/undercoat.
On the Owatrol Oil paint conditioner I can't remember the mix but I basically followed Owatrol's recommendation. They have a good website with all the details.
Hope it goes well for you.
@@tmck8133 Top man Tom I put a new video in my youtube when yer free if you like you can hit the 👍 button many thanks your tips I will get stuck in to the tractor next month big thanks i look forward to using this new product 🚜 keeper sucking diesel or tvo. 😉

I have a Ferguson tvo would love to have a finish just like yours 💪👌🍻
Thanks Stephen. Greetings from Longford.
Yea, she is back working, but nothing too strenuous. Just got it insured this week so will get it's first run on the road since 1991.
@@tmck8133 you managed to get a really nice finish who made the cab all the Hydraulics looks kool a real head turner there i see you manufactured some equipment very good very useful machine
I wish i could run hydraulic log splitter etc with my tvo
All the best keeper suckin diesel 👌🍻
Hi.
I added a little Owatrol Oil to the paint, it gives it a nice finish. My grey parts were brush painted but they came out perfect thanks to the oil. No brush marks.
On the cab, see my answer to Paul Storvik in the comments. In short I bought it from Valdi Machinery Sales in Carrick-on-Shannon but there is also a company in Laois selling similar cabs. Check Donedeal.
The quick hitch (with hydraulic toplink) I made is invaluable, saves a lot of hardship. I have a transport box, topper, log splitter (not hudraulic), set of pallet forks, ball hitch frame (for my car trailer) and I am constantly changing from one to the other.
I was thinking of building a log splitter but I don't think the hydraulic pumps would deliver enough to drive a log splitter unfortunately. My brother just made a 16ton splitter but he has a 100hp Valtra with lots of oil capacity.
Regards Tom.
@@tmck8133Hello Tom there are some craicing log splitters out there irish built ones great to have one with platform so you dont do much lifting your prep work before painting with a brush how many coats have a look in my youtube Video of my tvo i need to put some up i have fitted a new cluch and diff bearing i will try and put together a album cheers Tom
On the paint I applied 1 coat of primer/undercoat and 2 (or possibly 3, not sure at this stage) coats of grey topcoat.
I look forward to checking out your videos. Thanks.
what length are the gas struts when the window is closed I have the same cab?
Hi Philip. These are the ones I got and they work perfectly. 500mm between centres extended. 200mm stroke, 100N pressure.
Type 6 ends. Remove the brackets that come with them and they plug straight in (you may have to open up the holes in the cab brackets).

@@tmck8133 how do you rate the valdi cab , thinking of putting one on a Ford 4000
@@neilgallagher7794
Hi Neil.
Other than the problem with the rear window struts that I mentioned in the video I have no issue with the cab. Naturally there is a bit of work involved in getting it fitted but nothing too major. Hope it goes well with the 4000.
Hello, of which tractor model is the cab?
Hi.
The cab is made in Poland I beleive and is sold as being suitable for a MF35 or MF135.
Great video. About your external hydraulic video would be that be possible to do on a tef 20 tractor
Hi fergie man.
I am not sure. I think the tef 20 probably does not have a "live lift" (dual clutch),
i.e. every time you put your foot on the clutch the hydrulic pump stops,
so I don't know how much use the external hydraulics would be to you.
Great job. Well done. What height is the tractor now with that cab. Im Going to one. I hope it will fit in the shed!.
Hi.
It's 7' 1" to top of cab. If you are fitting a flashing beacon allow extra for that. Also, the roof can "pop up" about 6" at the front for ventilation. Easy to forget and snag in a low doorway.
where did you buy that cab?
Hi Ole. See my answer to Paul Storvik in one of the other comments below.
Can i ask where you got your cabin please
Hi Simon.
You are the 4th or 5th man to ask me that. Vivaldi, Carrick on Shannon. Scrool down through the other comments and all their details are there.
Great job. Fair play to ya.
Can you put up a link on your other video where we can get the two hydraulic parts you got? Thank you.

(BTW - What's the once-a-revolution tick-tick noise from the engine at idle?)
Hi. I can't hear any tick-tick noise!! The background music perhaps?
Definitly no "tick-tick" noise coming from the tractor😀.
@@tmck8133 ...at 27.10 .. definitely a ticking. I'm not saying it's bad, just like to know what it is! ;-)
did you have a manual or anything for your "as per specification" parts you mentioned. where would the details of the "toe in" be found?
that's a lot of work. nice one
Hi. Yes I had a MF35 Workshop Service Manual that I found on the internet. 383 pages and it is very detailed.
The "toe-in" for the steering was taken from the manual - which actually states 0-1/8" so I set it at 1/8" as I think it runs better that way.

Hi Michell - I have loaded that video of the external hydraulics. Hope it makes sense to you.
looks good, i've just bought the same cab to put on my 35x. what paint code did you paint your bonnet?
Hi Jack. I believe it is just "Massey Ferguson Red". That's all I asked for at the local tractor parts guys. The grey was "Stoneleigh Grey".
Excellent thanks, also what load rating and length gas struts did you use for the rear window? Thanks again :)

Do your rear cab mounting brackets sit flat on the rear axle? Or are they slightly wonky? Mine seem to have a gap inbetween the bracket and the axle?
Mine are OK. The bracket is flat and the axle is round so there is a slight gap on the inner side of the brackets, but where the bolts go through is was fine.

Very tidy tractor lad quick question what is that exact grey colour name very tidy colour looks well
Hi Tori. That colour is "Stoneleigh Grey". From my research that was the original grey on 35's.
that load of logs look a bit heavy with a silage bail mine stands on its hind legs despite 6 weights!
Hi Paul. They are well seasoned logs ;-)
Yea, I load it up until the front wheels are close to dancing. Have to reverse up some hills to keep the nose down, as I am sure you have done.
The "quick hitch" I made throws the load out about 4" more from the tractor (which is a bit of a negative) but it's still worth it when I am changing implements.
Bom dia, quanto vale um MF 35x , antes da restauração.
Hi Silvio. If I understand your question correctly you are asking, "how much is an MF 35x worth, before restoration"?.
That depends on it's condition. A reasonably good condition 35x could be worth €3000-€5000.
One in poor condition (needing a complete overhaul) could probably be bought for €1000-€2000. Hope this helps.

That’s the way to recycle , carbon footprint of that tractor disappeared 30 years or more ago . Imagine we could recycle lots of farm equipment like this instead of buying new .
I'm with you on that. Lots of farm equipment (and other machinery) left in fields and hedges. Shame they are (at least) not brought to metal recycling centres.
