Walter Webb do you know other bands that are like that? white stripes sounds like it but other bass heavy bands like muse or red hot chili peppers aren't exclusive to the bass. But I'd love to be proven wrong and discover new bass only bands, go ahead
That footwork at 2:14 is very impressive!! The off-board TU-2 is muting the 2nd fake guitar right, the one with a bit more of a 'raspy' distortion? Hadn't realised until watching you do that how important that 2nd guitar can be, really adds to the mix when you kick it back in at 2:34. Love your Royal Blood covers though. Inspired me to buy a Micro POG and a small guitar amp and give it a go! I'm not quite going down the 2 POG2s route yet (although I'd very much like to!), but some stereo splitting somewhere along the line ought to get me close enough :)
Thanks man, many years practising those footsteps! :-p Good stuff, I'm glad I've inspired! :-) In all honesty, one pog2 would do the trick unless your sound absolutely depends on it. Usually the 2nd pog on my board is just for the bass signal so I can do sub-octave bass or chorus sounds and then the other one is dedicated to the guitar sound. Dynamically it does work really well with both of them doing L/R guitar sounds which is why its configured for these videos but otherwise in a standard band line-up, just the one split signal willl do the trick!
Adam Flanagan Yeah that was the plan, but I've got the facility to split the guitar signal into two, so I might give it a try :) Doing the octave up with a MicroPog rather than the Pog2 though, don't have the need (or the money) to go for the bigger option! What effects are on each of the guitar channels out of interest?
This is an awesome cover, good work! Choosing the tones and effects to use for a Royal Blood cover can be quite subjective, but I think the cover could've done with a little fatter bass-sound, maybe add a slight overdrive into to the signal path? Or maybe boost the mids and bass? While I'm not quite sure what your options are, I'm just trying to give you some ideas for future covers that you may do with the new Royal Blood album around the corner and all. Very nice drumming. Have a good day! :)
For anyone with the Mustang LT50 fender amp, the garage fuzz preset that comes loaded into the amp sounds really similar to Royal Blood tone and is a great place to start if you want an easy solution to finding that tone.
Hey dude, big fan of you and obviously one of the biggest Royal Blood fans. I'm buying all the amps and the whole pedal board so I was wondering if you could do a tutorial on how to set up the pedal board, for example what plugs into what and what pedals go into which amps etc. You get the jist. Thankyou man.
Your videos are great, I'm glad I found a bassist who "figured out" Royal Blood's sound! One small question: Do you know if the POG2 is significantly better than the regular POG to get that guitar sound?
Cheers dude :-D I'm not what the actual differences between the two are mechincally but the pros for the POG2 would be the size, saving presets and I would imagine the processing would be better as well. Although Mike probably just uses the same presets throughout, we definitely know by the record that there are some overdubs done with two octaves above (compare the studio recording of the middle section of Figure it Out to the Live version) and 'Hole' has the really cool fading in/organ tones as well. I might keep an eye on the markets for the original POG cos it would be great to see what the diffefences could be for the sound! Thanks for watching!
Thanks for your answer! Another question crossed my mind: You use two POG2, but said that one is only for the lower octave on the bass path, is that right? I want to make a similar setup, but would have no use in an octaver for the bass sound. I just wasn't sure whether the second pog was used to get an even higher octave on the guitar sound. Those things are damn expensive, if I can avoid buying two I'd be glad xD
LeTendonBass No worries. Normally that's how I would run my board for a show, so one exclusively for fake guitar and the lower one would be for bass effects like sub-octave, chorus etc In this video I use the two POGs to create double track guitars (hard left and right) to make a bigger sound for the video. So unless you're playing in a RH setup, just get one and use that for fake guitars or of course any other effects that you can find with the pedal. Hope that helps!
Hey fantastic video! I've just discovered Royal Blood and this is an amazing cover! I have some questions though as im wanting to try this kind if setup out. What amps are you using and are you using the Boss Bass Overdrive pedal? Is your overdrive sound coming purely from the guitar amps or through the bass amp as well or is that just clean bass? Thanks!
Hey Adam! Great cover. I was wondering what your boss ps-6 settings were for the fake guitar sound. Just picked one up but I cannot seem to find the exact settings. Thanks in advance.
This is INTENSELY wicked!! Question, though, not just for Mr. Flanagan here but also for anyone who might be able to answer--I notice that from 2:18 onward, you play the line an octave lower than Mike Kerr does (to my ear, anyway!). I myself can't figure out (no pun intended) another way to play that bit in the "right" octave unless I tune my D string up to E (or something along those lines). Do you know what Kerr might've done there? Some further octave-up effect or different tuning? Thanks to anyone who can answer--trying to learn this for my own bass/drum duo! :)
Hi, as far as I'm aware, its just the same pedal for the octave effect (POG2) but set 2 octaves above the original signal. He does this just for the studio recording (as you'll hear it as an overdub with all the other usual stuff in the mix). When performed live, he just does the line an octave up (as I've done here)
Hey question. i just picked up the boss ps-6 but I'm not sure what setting to put it on to give the effect it gives royal blood and yourself. Help please
fuzz pedal I'd imagine so, but its one less thing to buy if a Boss TU-2 and LS-2 will do the trick for the sake of this video. You can also use the volume controls on the LS-2 to control the sound as well if its hitting pedals or the amp too much which has been helpful when I've used it for switching from an active to a passive bass for example
finally bassist start to get out of the traditionnal comfort zone of the quiet clean tone they used for everything since the release of the p-bass.
+Fintan
less is more.
it's hard to headbang to complicated shred solos but this kind of simple and powerful riffs does the trick.
+A bowl of Miso soup my point was about the role the bass i playing (main) and the tone used.
not the style of writing. but you're basically right.
It's only been happening since the 90s but ok
Walter Webb do you know other bands that are like that?
white stripes sounds like it but other bass heavy bands like muse or red hot chili peppers aren't exclusive to the bass.
But I'd love to be proven wrong and discover new bass only bands, go ahead
***** hey, thats pretty good!
any other similar bands?
ive been playing guitar for years and i think i want a bass after watching this, great cover
Buy one now Joel I have one too
how could anyone NOT like this. AWESOME schtuff, man.
Really great cover guys! 👍🏾
Thanks very much!
Yeah! very cool cover, really the job in the pedals configuration is awesome in Royal Blood, very difficult to copy but this cover very good.
Thanks man. Pedals are definetly a tough one to get right for the sound, but after seeing photos of his board using POG2s, I had to have a go! :-D
This is fucking awesome, this song is such a great cover song. cant wait to play it for my schools talent show!
You 2 are KiLLin IT!!!!
Best cover of this song!!!
That footwork at 2:14 is very impressive!!

this is awesome. also so much fun riffing along with this track.
Instant sub, You guys did a great job covering the song!
Good cover! Nice drumming and the effects were pretty much on point
that was good...excellent balance between guitar and drums...very good sound recording

Wow you even look a bit like mike from Royal blood.
I really enjoy your videos!
Lots a love from Japan.
que buen trabajo de producción man! felicidades estoy viendo todos tus vídeos! un fuerte abrazo desde México.
Great Job, in every aspect. you found a great tone, everything sounds very clean. Nice dance step to hit that pedal.

Well figured out!
Awesome dudes, great tone and playing.
I have the SAME Black Sabbath t-shirt and also have Roland E-Drum it (TD-11 myself) Hahahaha niiice to see this so familiar
Awesome
Awsome cover guys !!! sounds really good to my ears !! u need a good singer and rock'n roll !!!
Hey man, great video! I was wondering if you could do a video on how you could set up your pedalboard? For example what plugs into what etc.
Hey ya, I've finally got round to making a video of my board, check it here! th-cam.com/video/uOa-PPy34KQ/w-d-xo.html
Excellent
That was cool.
Wow. Really well done.
Very cool
Thoroughly well done :)

Hi, I've just uploaded a video of my pedalboard, check it out th-cam.com/video/uOa-PPy34KQ/w-d-xo.html
Fucking NICE!!! greetings from the kingdom of Bahrain.
Ace.
Very very good
I wanted to know how to achieve that sound.
Hey Adam! Great cover. I was wondering what your boss ps-6 settings were for the fake guitar sound. Just picked one up but I cannot seem to find the exact settings. Thanks in advance.
th-cam.com/video/P5-9eKRadEM/w-d-xo.html I just happened to be watching this earlier

Well done bass brother
Wow awesome!! What do you do with the Boss TU-3? Do you do with the line sector? Great job!
Hi, I have just uploaded a video for my pedalboard setup, showing what my TU-2 and LS-2 do. c
Check it out th-cam.com/video/uOa-PPy34KQ/w-d-xo.html
Awesome! Thanks!
Nice!! Finally got it in I see!
Indeed! Had to at some point, just wanted to find a different approach before recording a version of it. Thanks for watching!
Hell yea man! Good job you and your drummer! Props!
Hell yea ,COOL
Nice
Hey question. i just picked up the boss ps-6 but I'm not sure what setting to put it on to give the effect it gives royal blood and yourself. Help please
Sounds good mate.. Keep it up! ;-)
it sounds really good but it would be 100 times better if you used a harmonizer, and fuzz instead of distortion
What amps are you using
Amazing cover! What do you use the pitch shifter for? I still don't get it :(
If you're talking about the Boss Harmonist; it's used for faking a whammy bar sound.
He's using the PS6 for the bend at 2:12 but also to fake guitar power chords adding the fifth note (not in this song).
the intro kinda sounds like Pretty Handsome Awkward by the Used
Amazingggggg
How do you get that sound?
bravo!
when someone says drum and bass this is what i think of, i get very disapointed if they put d&b on...
what kind of pedals do you need for the song?
+Nicole Folkerts Something to split the signal, something to mute the signal, octave +1, and 2 amps.
Hi, I have just uploaded a video for my pedalboard setup, check it out th-cam.com/video/uOa-PPy34KQ/w-d-xo.html
You guys kinda look like the actual band members
hot dog thats like 1k worth of pedals
I would double that estimation..!
This guy looks like spierstheamazingHD
do you used 2 amps?
Yes, should be able to hear them panned left and right. I switch one off for the breakdowns and verses.
couldnt you just use an mxr a/b box?
fuzz pedal I'd imagine so, but its one less thing to buy if a Boss TU-2 and LS-2 will do the trick for the sake of this video. makes sense
Bpm is off from the initial start
LIKED! cool cover. missing some singing though :p if you can, check out my out of the black cover! cheers.
I think the drummer is SOOOOO sexy.
The hell is a fake guitar tone?
its not fake. go listen to the acutal song. its played with a bass. they use a bunch of petals to make that sound. pretty ba if you ask me
your drum set is like that one for 4 y/o babies :))
TIL that a 1500$ Roland TD9 V kit is a babies' toy
The audio sounds like it's running through a potato instead of an actual di
Kenz Tan that's because it is in fact a potato. Totally caught me out
nice drumset xD rock and roll! NOT!
Yeah lets fit a double bass Tama full set with 10 cymbals in that tight space ? Dumbass !!!
