This is amazing! It's 2023 and I just learned of Royal Blood when the Mike Kerr Jaguar Bass was released. Once I found out who he is, I've been digging a bit. Really cools stuff that I could have used as bassist in a power trio 8 or so years ago...
Split signal bass rigs are amazing...I split my signal 3 ways now...bass, guitar emulation, and keyboard emulation, and the keyboard emulation is a stereo split to two amps, one of which I run through a homemade leslie...ridiculously huge sound from a single bass, wouldn't want to have to move all this gear myself though lol
Great job! thanks for the inspiration and all set up the info in the description. My band has only one guitar, singer, drummer, and the bass, so we sometimes need to fatten up the sound to cover songs that use 2 or 3 guitars or multiple tracks on the studio recording. I'm definitely going to try this, or at least see how close I can get with what I have to work with on my pedal board.
HeavyBassRig Thanks very much for the kind words :-) I do use this seutp for my regular band as well (same line-up) of which I'm gonna do a video demonstrating how it works with that line-up very soon.
I want to say he might actually run the pogs in line, in order to kick in the higher octaves during some of the solo bits. I might be wrong though. I've only seen the mastotron on his board for fuzzes, and he controls what amps get signal from the triage. he could also use the 'bending' ps-6 set to really quick shift though.
Dude, I struggle so much with playing this song because the intro is so damn difficult I can't seem to get it right, any chance you could post a slight tutorial on an easy way to do it?
Wasup man, i'm a fan from Brazil, your cover is absolutely the best avaible. Would you please tell me what strings are you using? the caliber Thanks a lot!
You've absolutely nailed the sound on this. I cover this song in a band and use a Whammy (4th gen) to achieve the octave effect, then run it through a standard NYC big muff and then into a guitar amp. I can never seem to achieve the Fuzz with definition sound you get here (that sort of awesome clacky sound on the higher octave), what settings do you have on the muff? I'm also wondering if its because the Whammy 4th gen isn't true bypass and sucks some of the higher mids and treble.
Actually, now that I've got a Bass Whammy whichis tru bypass, I still can't get that sound, beginning to think it might have something to do with the Wicker on the Big Muff that you have.
Lewis Pilcher If possible I would suggest getting one of the Electro Harmonic POGs to get the sound. I've tried getting the sound using a whammy before and tracking isn't particularly brilliant I found and doesn't quite capture the 'string' element of the sound if that make sense? Also, try crafting the sound with a guitar amp for the 'fake guitar' sound and use the fuzz/overdrive etc as a boost to help polish off the sound. Hopefully that'll help
Hey Adam. Coudl you please explain what actually happens when you turn on the POG on 0:11? You activate another fake quitar signal that goes through different distortion pedal, right?
good job dude! I've been thinking of getting a Sansamp D.I bass driver but then started reading about the para driver version because it has a mid control on it. Any thoughts on that if one is better then the other and why? And I bought the Royal Blood cd a couple weeks back and love it!!! Keep the sweet insperational covers coming dude!!
Hi, I'm currently having the same dilemma as I wouldn't mind the same level of control as well (although I'm thinking more the rack version of this medal with is the RPM i believe). What's cool with the bass driver is the mids adjust accordingly to how you set the bass and treble on it so generally it scoops/boosts where its suppose to as such, so thinks as a bass player would EQ! If you're happy for the pedal to scoop then get the Bass Driver. Otherwise if you want control over those mids get the Para Driver (the mids control is handy if you wanna DI other instruments such as electric guitar) Obviously try one or the other where possible but regardless you can't go too wrong. Hope that helps!
Yea dude that helps a billion! I absolutly love your pedals! I Checked out a pic of Royal Blood's layout on his pedal board then I seen your cover stuff a few weeks back and that's when I subscribed to you link which I also love. And that's when I seen your sick layout and man & I just started playing bass as for I was a rythem guitar guy up until this point and well i'm really liking the bass and well hearing Royal Blood as well as seeing your stuff really opened my eye's as to what range you can really can go and get out of a bass besides just the simple clean stuff. Thanks again dude have a good one. And yes i'll be trying both versions of the sansamp pedals as well for sure. POG2 might have to be the last pedal I get unfortnitly because of the $ but as I get the pedals slowly if I need any help with the layout etc, you might be hearing from me again in the future lol if that's cool. Keep up the awesome work man!
Hey adam whats the correct way to have my stack amp it's a Acoustic mini stack 100 watt and its loud! My question is how should I do the settings on my amp now that I just recently bought the sansamp bass driver D.I (yes I got the bass after I said I was gonna get the para driver lol, I got a good deal on it at my local G.C) but how should I use the settings without overloaded my amp? Right now until I get me an electric I am using a $400 acoustic bass with the pickup and knobs on it as well so between the amp & the bass acoustic setting knobs which are treble, bass, mids & shape on the guitar settings. My amp has just got the master volume, mids, treble and bass...it also has an overdrive for distortion on the amp but I don't even mess with that really.... so with all that in mind how should I run the sans amp accordingly with all that going on for the best sound out of the sans amp? Thanks a billion if you can help me out dude! Just seen The Kings Of Leon play last week here in Alabama it was awesome Jared on the bass is tha shiznit!!
Good stuff, KOL are cool, and they're incredibly creative with their effects, Jared especially (if you ever want bass effects inspiration I would start with him). With the Sansamp and using amps, I find just setting the amp 12 o clock across the board and then do all the tone shaping from the sansamp works best. If the overall sound gets too bassy or trebly etc then use the amp to fine tune, normally this would be the situation with performing in different rooms (at least from the stage end of things)
ok sweet! thanks! I just started putting mine at about 3 o clock all the way across so i'll give that a shot and check it out for sure! Yea I seen this on stage setup of Jared's pedal's and he also has a Boss ME-50 what do you think of that and would that be affective while using my Sansamp bass driver? Maybe I would just need to buy one of those Boss Ls-2's to divide the signal's between the two of them?..Thanks for the help again I can't wait to keep building my pedal board up but a nice electric bass is next on my list! Thennn back to pedals =) loving my tone though so far!!
Depends if you want the guitar(s) in stereo or not. One is plenty however, just choose a good distortion/fuzz pedal to go with it (and of course a guitar amp or sim)
Hey also is that a new MXR Distortion pedal? Did you keep that digitech senth pedal? Whats the difference between the boss overdriver, the MXR Distortion and the Big Muff w/wicker pedal?
Yeah still got the synth wah, I just used the MXR for this video as I'd split the the POGs into stereo channels (So two fake guitars, one with Muff and the other with Dist). The MXR goes with me to gigs and normally I switch out the muff for this sometimes (mainly cos the muff is too heavy for some function gigs I do!)
lol Niceeeee!!! I can't wait to try the Big Muff out as well! I guess i'll be going after the one with the wicker switch as well! I wish I could see your setup in person because that would be sooo much easier to comprehend lol. Holler at ya next time dude!
If I don't plan to have the guitars in stereo should I pass on the line selector? Thinking of just splitting the signal with a TU-3 and sending guitar into pog>harmonist>distortion/fuzz and bass into my KORG pitchblack to mute it when necessary then into my sansamp BDDI. I should be able to set that up and have the ability to mute either signal with that setup right? Thanks for all the info!
+Kenny Bones Undertones That should work, as you should be able to mute either channel via the tuners on each signal path. The LS2 is incredibly handy as a pedal; uses it for switching instruments as well as the stereo channel loops. Have fun!
One more question. What do you use the PS-6 harmonist for exactly? I know in another description you mention you set it to a 5th but is it constantly running to add a fuller sound or do you only engage it once in a while for dive bombs? Looks like a very capable pedal but I've seen other people comment in reviews that the PS-6 harmonies don't sound so great unless you're running a stereo rig which is my biggest concern since I only have 1 guitar amp.
Thanks man! Its rather clever on this version; basically the two POGS are two individual guitar tracks. One POG has the Big Muff Pi (panned left) and the other POG has the MXR D+ (panned right). All to do with filling up the mix, and just a bigger depth of sound with two different distortion/fuzz pedals together.
Oh on the bass, apologies! Well the board isn't wired to do that but I have used it solely on bass. In my few its abit weak if you plug straight in and out. If you can blend it with either another distortion or just the clean sound then it sounds abit more plausible.
Yeah that's controlled with LS-2. When I gig the board, normally the fake guitar is put in to thicken stuff up/fill out solo section with the band I play with.
iwan pranata Depends on the song. Come on Over/Out of the Black are Drop D, Figure it Out is E standard, Little Monster is C G D G and some are Drop C as well. A whole mix bag!
***** Some but not all, usual thing of making do with what one's got. He does use the Boss LS-2 (but uses to cut out the bass rather than control the guitars I belive), definitely two POG2s (although I use one for sub-octave bass effects normally), Boss TU-2 (muting/tuning) and the Boss PS-6 for whammy effects/power chord sounds

Nice cover... do you have 2 amps plugged in? One for the guitar sound and other for the bass?
Great video & great bass skills - keep it up!

Awesome t-shirt and video!
yeah excellent!

I'll see what I can do.
fucking awesome bro
Really nice!
INSANELY awesome!!! :)
Nice!
Impressive!
fucking awesome
ilike this guys mind set goes to store to buy EHX pog and hes like ummmm better get 2
great cover man! where did you get the drum backing track? thanx
Thanks man, I created the drum track myself using the drummer patches in Logic Pro X.
Good
hey great video! can i ask what the difference is in the first preset compared to the second one you use at the start of the video? thanks!

why you used two POG2?

I didn't, I programmed them myself
is a drop C?
what is the tuning bass guitar of mike kerr?
