In a cruel twist of fate, the channel hit 100K subscribers a day after the incident. I'd like to thank every one of you for supporting me up to this point. I can't help but think how much of that I owe to Kyoto Animation. They've been my joy, my inspiration, my passion. No amount of thanks is enough.
    Here's how you can help:
Link to Sentai Filmworks GoFundMe campaign: www.gofundme.com/help-kyoani-heal
Link to KyoAni digital print webshop: kyoani.shop-pro.jp/
Step-by-step picture guide on how to purchase: twitter.com/gokunobaka/status/1151813889362989056
Lastly, I obviously intended to post this video unmonetized, but a ContentID claim monetized it for the copyright holder. Just want to clarify so there's no misunderstanding.

As an animation student, as an artist, seeing 40 years of animation and art history lost, seeing some of the greatest artists of our generation lost for nothing is heartbreaking. They shared with us the joys an entire spectrum of human emotion can bring, that even sorrow and hate can be spun into something positive. It's a twisted irony that so much attention has been brought to the studio due to the tragedy. That it brought so many people together even beyond our niche community; such an outpouring of support. Our reality now shares that same celebration of emotions they wanted to display in their stories. The fundraiser for those who remain, the survivors, their families and the families of the victims. The exposure to and recognition of their work and their legacy.
I don't know how to really finish this, I was writing it while listening to the video and hearing the pain in your voice just kinda broke my train of thought. I just know they won't ever be forgotten and I hope somehow they know that their message, the message they shared with the world with the stories they told, was received. And now that message is being shared and passed by us.

I was in the middle of re-watching Liz and the Blue Bird when this news broke out. I've been beyond heartbroken since then. KyoAni's works have had such an impact on my life and hold such a special place in my heart. They've helped me through dark times and helped me learn things about myself. K-On!, Dragon Maid, Euphonium, Tamako Market, Nichijou, Lucky Star, Koe no Katachi, Liz and the Blue Bird... I love all of these and more so much. I feel like these lyrics from K-On!'s "U&I" sum up how I feel best:
I think I've been spoiled too much
Because you're too good to me
You gave me so many things that that I can't even get to pay you back
All the while I took your existence for granted
And I thought that we would always, always be together
    As days go by
I'm sorry only now I realized
    That isn't really the case
So to start things off I have to tell you these two words
    "Thank you"

Free inspired me to keep going in my education, as I was homeschooled when I first saw it. And due to personal issues, wasn’t able to finish a lot. Now, I’m a high school graduate, on her way to an apprenticeship. And A Silent Voice spoke to me on a personal and emotional level as someone who has Autism and used to be suicidal. Living with my Autism made me feel alone a lot, and made me feel like people didn’t take me seriously. But A Silent Voice reminded me that no matter what disability you have, no matter your flaws, there’s always a group there for you to become your friend.

My emotions are always in a straight line never swurving left or right nor up or down, I never know what I truly feel and has never been able to tell even those close to me who I truly am. Almost 5 years later and with Sound! Euphonium ending, I am so happy where KyoAni is now.
Stories of people or groups not only overcoming, but rising above from the ashes of a horrific tragedy to heights beyond their imagination is a truth that has been shown throughout human history.
That triumphant return that makes everyone who witnesses such a moment remember them not for what occurred to them, but for what they became in spite of it is so remarkable to see.
KyoAni has done just that. And i could not contain the tears and happiness when Sound Euphonium’s final episode released just a few days ago. I thought 5 years ago, that the studio would be finished and the remaining staff and community around them would remain demoralized for years to come never to let the world see what the essence that makes KyoAni who they are to be seen ever again by the world or the global anime community. I had the fear that it was over, and that passionate group of people would never be the same or even exist.
I am so glad to report that their new works still put a smile on my face. And I’m convinced that 5 years, no decades from now, their works and community within the company will still continue to mesmerize me and future generations.
It still hurts to recall that day’s events. I sometimes can’t even get past works from prior to the fire through rewatches because I recall the directors, storyboard writers, or character designers who worked on that show while viewing it sometimes overwhelming me emotionally. But I know for certain that fans won’t forget the individuals who passed away. And we certainly won’t stop continuing to show our thankfulness to them for the art they gave us whenever we get the chance to.

Once that ingot is cooled down, it becomes harder and more flexible than before. Oh common, I just dug myself inches out of the hole I sat in since last Thursday, with a promise to myself to not search for every little bit of information about the people and the incident, so I could force myself to stop thinking about the immeasurable tragedy that happened (live my life and watch anime again, as I couldn't bring myself to watch anything since then).
Now after I finally managed to get slightly back on track (life doesn't wait) this pulled me right back in.
Somehow I'm still thankful for it, because this video will be a stark reminder of what happened so it will never be forgotten and can be watched if time threatens to foggy the memory of this event.
And because this is an open letter I will add my letter I wrote over the Crunchyroll campaign to maybe reach someone at KyoAni:
    To the Kyoto Animation staff,
It is hard to find words about the tragedy that hit you hard, but you
should know that millions of people suffer with you and you are not
alone. We all mourn with you the loss of so many of your colleagues, you
    are not alone.
I don't know if anybody can recover from this, but I believe you can,
because you are strong. You are not just some people you are part of
Kyoto Animation, the shining example everyone in Animation looks up to.
Take your time, gather your strength, and we believe you can overcome everything.
I strongly believe that your spirit can't be broken and always remember, you have millions behind you!

I was so incredibly crushed when I heard about the Kyoto Animation fire. It was super late at night/early in the morning for me but I just couldn't sleep. My grief hit me like a truck, and outpourings of said grief come in waves over the past few days. I was looking at the Funimation and Sentai Filmworks blu-rays of their work on my shelf and was just taking time to think about all the people who worked on those series and films, no matter their title, and my heart felt so heavy.
I remembered how only a few weeks ago I was telling someone that KyoAni was one of the best anime studios in regards to how they treat their staff, pay, respectable hours, supporting women in higher up positions. It was a point of pride that made the studio special, outside of their beautiful work.
Last Saturday, I was talking about the tragedy with a friend (who isn't a major anime fan, but is still aware of the biggest hits like Ghibli films, Attack on Titan, etc...), and even gave her a couple easy-to-find recommendations of their work. She texted me on Sunday about how much she absolutely loved A Silent Voice.
This video felt incredibly genuine and true to my own feelings, so thank you for sharing it.

Ai wo Mitsuketa Basho playing right at the end there was a perfect choice, simply because, one could say, The Place We Found Love, was with none other than KyoAni. We fell in love with their works, and their utmost care for their employees. As Jack so brilliantly said (and showed through this video and his tweets from the last few days), no amount of thank yous are enough for what they have done for so many of us.
    Thank you KyoAni.

Thanks for making this. It honestly sums up my thoughts better than I think I'd be able to at the moment. I'm sure they'll be able to come back from it, but jesus fucking christ . . . it just feels so unreal sometimes, that such a fantastic studio that's made such amazing work could go through something so horrible. I can only imagine what their friends and family are going through. And I'll admit, I'm kinda shocked by how much it's affected me, since I am a more recent fan (Dragon Maid is what originally got me interested), but still. Thank you, KyoAni.

I’m a Japanese American, so my heart hurt not only because this animation studio that helped me through so much but because of my family history. I took a trip to Japan back in 2012 and I only wanted to do 2 things while I was there. I wanted to see my family and I wanted to go to the place that gave me so much joy in life. Seeing the building I traveled halfway around the world to see in flames destroyed me. I am working on a manga/webcomic right now that simply wouldn’t exist if it wasn’t for that company showing me the beauty of life and animation. The Japanese are a very strong people, they will recover stronger than ever, but damn I wish it never happened. They will grow, morn and thrive and we (The fans) will be there open-armed ready to support them in any way we can. The amount of donations has gone up tremendously since I last looked which is incredible news. Thank you for this gorgeous video, I can tell it was painful to have to write but know your words are beautiful and speak volumes. Thank you Kyoto Animation.

"No letters deserve to go undelivered"
I'm not sure how to reach Kyoani, but I will now write this letter.
Kyoani has caught my eye at a very young age. Their characters and animation is just beautiful. From Hyouka, Chuunibyou, and Amagi Brilliant Park to Clannad, Dragon Maid, and more, I enjoyed many of their works. Kyoani is my favorite studio and it pains me to witness them in such a tragic incident. Although this letter may not reach them, it will be right here for them and others to see. To know that a fan cares.
    Thank You, Kyoto Animation,
    -Mat

KyoAni is underated for the ost selections. I know they to make the posts themselves but they work so well with the composers of their anime.
The well composed music along with their top talent animation really brings their shows to life. And the other thing I wanna shout out is their work with VA's. They always seem to find the best VA for each character.
Sound euphonium S1 is a good example. A simple storyline told with amazing music, stunning visuals, and great background sfx that makes u connect so deeply with the characters.

My emotional & slice-of-life experience with you began on Clannad & I hope It won't end on Violet Evergarden. Your dedication and your reaction is such a wonderful thing, I thank you for this video, and any KyoAni video that you have made. I thank KyoAni for all the love they gave us fans. It's about time we honor them and give the love back.
As stupid as it may sound, I think they changed my life deeper than a mere anime fan. I may have been interested in Japan before even knowing anime, but KyoAni were the catalyst that made me take it one step further, learn more of the daily culture, visit Japan, make me come back time and time again.
May the people that had to live through this ever recover,
    With sincere gratitude.

Thank you. In tears. KyoAni saved me. This is not an exaggeration. I suffer from severe depression, and I've tried to kill myself twice in the last two years. If I hadn't found K-On! and the other Kyoto Animation works I wouldn't be here. They gave me a small bright spot in my otherwise shit existence. I feel so useless in that I can't afford to help. I tried to sell off the collectibles I no longer have any passion for so I could get the manga, anime and collectibles of they KyoAni works that helped me but no one wants to buy them. I feel like I've let them down. I owe them so much.
I'd just like to add one more thing. The police in Japan have named the suspect. I will never use his name. I refuse to read it. If someone (news report) uses it, I plug my ears. KyoAni is creativity and joy. It is love and happiness. This insect will not taint it. I will not join those baying for his blood. I will NEVER use his name. He is the perpetrator. He is the criminal. He deserves no more attention or recognition. Ever.

I've watched a handful of these tribute videos to KyoAni and every one has made me tear up. It really hits home how much of an impact KyoAni's shows have made on peoples lives, and it's not necessarily one or two shows, but a whole list of wonderful anime that people feel close to. For me it's Clannad, K-On, Hibike Euphonium and The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya just to start off with. It's Koe no katachi (A Silent Voice), Violet Evergarden, Amagi Brilliant Park and Kobayashi Dragon Maid to name some more.
I've finally got around to purchasing a handful of digital downloads from their store (and for the record, they're about US$2 each for people struggling with exchange rates), but I feel that no matter how much I donate, or purchase, or give, it won't be enough to repay them for what they've done for me or alleviate my ineffectiveness to help them overcome this tragedy. However, I'm fully confident that KyoAni will recover from this and again give us something to wow us. And for that, I'll be eternally grateful.

  • @cindsa8630
    @cindsa8630 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Just like for many others KyoAni's works had quite an impact on me. I wouldn't have learned to love and appreciate classical orchestral music without Hibike!, I don't think I would've ever touched the guitar without K-ON, I wouldn't have learned to appreciate the small things in life, I wouldn't have started paying close attention to little details in the animation and sound if not for their works, I wouldn't have gotten to experience so many different emotions without those works. I didn't know that a tv show or a movie could move me to tears, I didn't know that it could bring me pure joy and make me genuinely smile.
Even though you can never bring back those talented individuals who were lost in this tragedy, I really hope from the bottom of my heart that this isn't the end and that one day I'll experience yet another masterpiece from such a wonderful studio.
    Thank you KyoAni.
