Considering someone's theory that the more disfigured doppelgangers are using the bodies of people who have shot themselves, but cant figure out how to properly make themselves look human, is enough to make me go "these things must be dumb as fuck" That completely erased the fear for me, and I'd imagine if you told a victim that, they'd be less terrified (at least marginally) enough to attack them
Well if you're trapped in a room with the only way out being past the monster, crying like a bitch won't help, push right through the damn thing and steamroll it to the ground
I liked that you said "Why wouldn't the military or batman get involved" like implying that the last hope for dealing with these beings that replace humans is just batman
Before Dracula was written in 1897, the common interpretation of a vampire was a demon possessing a human corpse. In this way, the alternates in this series are actually classical medieval vampires.
Just now realizing some of these alternates probably don't look human because they've taken over human bodies that have shot themselves in the face....actually horrifying.
i have never felt more betrayed than hearing "alright so we've gone through it pat yourself on the back you were very brave and i'm proud of you" and finally looking up at the screen believing myself to be safe only to be shown creepy jesus and i cannot believe you could do this to me
The Devil: Uses psychological warfare to force people to commit suicide 97% of people: Commit Suicide 3% of people: That’s crazy, I don’t remember asking
i thought so too lol. but since “uh oh” is often used in a playful and friendly context, ig it’s to somewhat lower your guard, then throw you into the following jump scare. that was my take but i’m not sure
I once saw a screenshot of a tweet that said "The scariest thing I ever heard is when someone pointed out that the existence of the uncanny valley implies that at one point there was an evolutionary reason to be afraid of something that looked human but wasn't." This series literally brings out primal fears we didn't even know existed.
Maybe it was when humans were competing with Neanderthals who looked not quite human before the humans ultimately ended up killing all the Neanderthals off.
Yeah except there used to be multiple species of humans that coexisted and would often fight with each other because we were all similarly apex predators, so that’s pretty much a solid explanation as you’ll get.
I believe that the K in the THINK principle isn’t actually “kill yourself,” it’s “know your place in reality.” The video showing you the first message is possibly an alternate using its psychological manipulation on the viewer. The actual message being to “know your place in reality” meaning to be sure you are the real you.
that's a good point, and i originally took it in the context of reassuring yourself that you're real, but in the context of negative psychological messages, i think it might mean that humans need to understand their place in the hierarchy of reality beneath the alternates
This might be running too far with it, but maybe there’s 3 Ks, (kill yourself, know your place, know your enemy) one for each type of threat. Invaders, Detectable, and Doppelgängers respectively
Ever since I started The Mandela Catalogue, my childhood fear of the dark and of my closet has come back. Human faces with tampered features really are something
Imagine the intruder knows that Mark will probably burn for eternity in hell, just because he couldn't contain and control his fear, through no fault of his own. It gives me chills. "Nobody came for me" And now, hell, for eternity.
I was raised in a strict Christian household that would talk about hell and Satan a lot. When I was younger, I would get nightmares about stuff like Satan taking over. Seeing these videos now that I am older has awakened a childhood fear I have not experienced in such a long time. SO COOL
I was raised and still Muslim and learned about that stuff you talk about and more then that and I just knew that god will help you on your path no need to fear
@@hugarada7156 there isnt a dark side to the religion its based on how people were raised in the religion. Im christian and we do talk about satan but we know him as the enemy we cast away his presence so the way your parents taught you seems messed up and is a bad look for the religion.
My theory is that the white text we see at the end of overthrown is actually Mary. The chains around her feet symbolize guilt, and the quote “my foolishness will be my legacy” refers to how she fell for the fake redacted angel. Now she wanders through the desert and asks, “if there is a god, please help me”. Meaning that if there is a good god, one that isn’t satan, let him the true god help her.
This reminds me of Mary Magdalene, a prostitute who spent a lot of time in the desert before "becoming pure" and converting to Christianity. In this universe, the alternates gave Mary Mary Magdalene's punishment
I always assumed the white text to be Jesus speaking, but that line, “my foolishness will be my legacy” always made me second guess that thought, because it didn’t seem to make much sense if it were Jesus. I hadn’t even thought of the possibility of it actually being Mary. That makes sooo much more sense, this kinda blows my mind ngl.
theres something so much scarier about the horror bringing people to suicide rather than the creatures killing them. it adds an extra layer of fear where youre so helpless you have nothing else you can do. a lack of control on the biggest level. it really helps with the cosmic horror factor
that plus the sense of false hope.... for mark he called the police but days passed without help til he eventually succumbed. the police are trained to lie and ignore your pleas. there's something so horrifying about calling 911 for an intruder, feeling relief at the thought you'll be rescued, then slowly realising they were never going to help.
I LOVE non-gory body horror. This proves that the effect of warping and twisting a person’s humanity can be just as-if not more-terrifying than a bunch of blood, guts, and atrocious imagery. Thanks for showing us this awesome series, Mr. Goon :)
Yeah, gore has the effect of super grossing me out and making me stop watching. Warping human faces creeps me out, adds tension, can be a great jumpscare, and makes me want to keep watching
@@Styxintheriver dude that weird jesus face is creeping me out. Last time this happened was when Momo was introduced to us.It took some time to get used to understanding it.
It’s like the alternates have this disgusting sense of humor. Being pure evil it makes sense that they would make a twisted remark when someone is trying to attack them.
Mark also gave away to the Cesar doppelgänger that he was fearful of his house. When Cesar asked Mark to come turn on the cameras he says “You know how I feel about your house.”
The most horrifying element about this for me is the biblical cartoon and how it is distorted. I own several vhs copies of that same cartoon and have watched them many times in my childhood. They've become part of my life at an early age and I cherish them. But seeing them distorted like... THAT. It scares me to the point of tears. I'm a 24 year old dude. Jeez.
Man, I can't imagine what it was like being in your shoes in that situation, cause I already thought it was pretty freaky, but yeah I can imagine that hitting like a freight train
i’m kinda in the same boat. i wasn’t raised religious but i did have the children’s bible from that biblical cartoon series from a preschool i went to. i’m not religious now but those cartoons still hold a place in my heart. seeing them corrupted through the series is a type of fear i didn’t know i had. something about an innocent cartoon telling bible stories for kids being distorted into… that is something else
A lot of stuff from volume 1 gave me chills tbh. "No matter how frantic their screams are." "Uh oh, bad decision Mark!" And Cesar's face being warped are what did it for me. I have a very strong tolerance to horror. I haven't seen a movie that has scared me since I was probably 10 but this got me. I have a soft spot for Analog Horror I guess because Gemini Home Entertainment scared me pretty good too.
I feel really bad for that dude. Imagine being locked in a stalemate. Your in your bedroom, and something is on the other side of the door. You call the police and thank god they say theyre coming. But as minutes go by.. nobody comes. Minutes turn to hours, hours turn to days. Nobody will come.

@@luisacarvalho5889 well because Real Sleep is based on a reals psychological attack, if use correctly, it can actually lower the ability for the human mind to comprehend what a human sees as a facial expression, which would see as a friendly face, be hostile, unintentionally.
There’s something so visceral and bone chilling of bedroom fear. It works so well because it’s such a primal feeling of us letting our guard down that at any moment something could attack us.
The sentence "avoid opening your eyes when you are certain that the man in the corner is in fact now inches way from your face watching" frequently pops into my head when im trying to fall asleep and torments me when I least expect it

If we’re gonna commit to these two as the hierarchy, let’s at least make the change we all know at a gut level needs to happen, and that is to switch them up, and put Batman at the top.
The Walten Files made me realize how I can absolutely not handle distorted faces. Sure, jumpscares, blood and gore are scary, but seeing how a human faces slowly morphs into a completely unnatural shape makes you *uncomfortable*. And it doesn't need to be accompanied by sound or anything else, just the longer you look at it the worse it gets. While scares are good, they sorta always stay on the surface level and you forget about them after a few seconds, but stuff like this really disturbs something deep inside of you.
Personally I don’t find either scary what I find scary is the parts where you have to stare into the darkness knowing something could at anytime show up. The worst one being when the door opens and you know there is something there hiding in the darkness but you can’t see it
Gotta love being in an abusive relationship with horror, I'm a little bitch that gets scared when a random leaf crinkles in the woods, my brain knows its nothing but my body goes fight or flight. But I always come back just to see what the community is up to because there is always so much more that can be done in this genre.
I think the thing that freaks me out the most about this is the guy saying, ‘I am inside your home’ is that I remember hearing a quote from somewhere (it doesn’t come to mind rn) that home isn’t a place, it’s the people you feel most comfortable with, the environment where you feel most safe and secure. Something along those lines anyway. It really freaks me out because the guy said, ‘I am inside your home’. He didn’t just say house, he said that he had infiltrated where you feel most safe. You can’t do the things that comfort you the most, because he’ll be there. You can’t be where you feel the safest or happiest, he’ll be waiting. Freaks me out.
If it’s rooted in perversions of Christianity, I’d surmise that Mark had a “Guardian” Demon as opposed to a Guardian Angel, pretty much marking him for death in order to become a future vessel.
If "Jesus" was cursed to walk the earth forever, that would explain how that's done. The doppelgangers are whatever this thing is, constantly needing to swap bodies by stealing them.

the bit of the cop pictures where it says "victims corpse is seen being tampered with by invisible force" is literally horrifying. it being censored gives you an extremely upsetting idea of what it *could* be doing. definitely solidified this as my absolute favorite analog horror series by far
I think that there was a possession taking place in that picture. Notice most of the black boxes are blocking their true form. I think it’s showing the aftermath of being turned into an alternate. This is a very interesting series. Is it really an alternate reality? 👀 Considering that many have allowed other things to become their “god” or “savior”. Love this type of crazy stuff that sticks with you
I love PSA horror stuff. It taps into our societal fear that the authorities that we have been conditioned to trust are A) aware of the problem B) Powerless against the problem and C) Likely already infiltrated by the problem.
What makes the distorted Gabriel smile face so terrifying - is the thought and knowledge of absolute hopelessness for humanity in the face of something godly Mark prays to God for days on end in his journal whilst the Alternate is outside his room, begging to be saved and begging for God to help and protect him At the end of his journal, just before he kills himself, Mark writes: "Who have I been praying to all this time?" That's the part that gives me goosebumps and makes my eyes watery The thought that this "savior" is watching over Mark's suffering, and is not only not protecting him in spite of his prayers, but also is actually the one actively causing his suffering to begin with - that's what's so scary We, the viewers, realize that in this universe - there is no true savior of humanity like Jesus, because the false savior prevented his birth and his role as a divine protector of mankind God was long "overthrown" (hence the title of the first video) from his place by this First Alternate, and now the one that holds the Earth and the fate of humanity in the palm of his hands is a malicious entity that seeks to wipe out our race entirely It's a feeling of absolute dread, and a complete loss of hope - one of the worst kinds of fears we experience, just behind the fear of the unknown "Who have I been praying to all this time?" is still easily the scariest part of the series for me The reason Wendigoon was so afraid of this part of the MC specifically, is probably because he lives his life according to his unwavering faith in God - any sense of hope in life he has comes from the belief that God loves him and is watching over him with kindness And when you strip that away from any religious person, and add on top of that a malicious God that is actively desiring to kill us all - that's the perfect brew of horror Alex really nailed it with this whole story, props to him
@@ralsei3157 My interpretation of the first video’s title “Overthrone” means God was killed by “Gabriel” Sure, maybe humans have no hope of even scratching a god, but what if a god went against another god? We never know

Religious horror is so effective when done right, even non-christians can generally recognize Jesus as a symbol of good, and corrupting him, or at least his image, to one of pure evil and terror is so effective in getting people on edge.
Jumpscares are scary but for me, "patient" horror is the worst. I hate the thought of something scary just waiting until you let it scare you like the alternate knocking on marks door until it made him kill himself like it makes me so anxious.
That's where horror lies, in the feeling of dread not the momentary and passable startling spook, nothing horrifying about a passing scare you forget about seconds after it happens.
I love that wendigoon is shit scared of the stuff he covers, it's very relatable and also very refreshing as other horror TH-camrs aren't as affected by this stuff as he is, like you can tell he finds this fascinating but equally disturbing.
I love how comically dumb this looks but genuinely unsettling it is. Imagine if any actual company would ever try enough to make something this well crafted.
That's the thing, a company can't make something like this, as soon as multiple people with different visions of how it should go, people who only care about money and having to please shareholders and avoid certain topics get involved it just becomes every generic product, it's precisely because this is a single person passion project that it works
I legit got a night terror the night that I watched this series. I couldn’t stop thinking about that freaking shot of the shadow man in that person’s room, and in the middle of the night, my brain just went on autopilot, woke me up, and made me think that that thing was in my room, and I literally bruised my knees from falling because I was trying to get out of my bed as fast as possible to turn on the lights. I remember being so terrified that it was nothing I had ever felt before. Thanks Alex, thanks for creating a series so terrifying that I had a night terror about it. xD
@@asta-is-dead I most definitely did lol. I rarely ever get night terrors, and they mainly consist of me just screaming in my sleep, so this one being this extreme made it even crazier.
as a schizophrenic person, i genuinely regret watching this, this video is so fucking well done, that photo of the dark man in the corner is an actually really good representation of what i see and think is real
How does Wendigoon do it? How is it that he's the only creator who I will immediately drop everything for to watch his video, even a full hour documentary. Please, keep up this incredible work!
He covers creepy/scary stuff on the internet, which interests us. But he doesn’t do it with a scary voice, scary music, jump scares etc. Which would be turn-offs for a lot of us. It’s a interesting topic with a chill presentation. Golden combination
As someone who: - Is religious & therefore terrified of religious horror - Is terrified of human distortion - Grew up having paralyzing night terrors for most of my childhood This. Shakes. Me. To. My. Core. I have not felt fear like this since I was a child, cowering beneath a blanket filled with overwhelming dread. Well done Alex, you did such a good job that I hate it
I found out about this from my mom. Apparently, as a kid, I once asked "Mom, if the devil works with trickery, how do we know he isn't tricking us now?" And then she sent me this saying that it's all my fault she's up at night in a cold sweat.
I think the “avoid religion” point is more broadly pointing to how the act of worship and blind faith puts you in the perfect frame of mind to be vulnerable to superstition, and thus fear. It’s easier to scare someone who already has a background in being afraid of Satan.
I think it’s more so an alternate using psychological manipulation. Religious people have an equally if not more powerful unseeable hope to fight an unseeable enemy. If you can get rid of hope in a supernatural savior, then you have no hope to fight a supernatural fear.
"It followed me home, Cesar." and the alternate trying to convince Mark to let them in literally made me cry out of pure discomfort. It was the strongest, absolute worst reaction I've ever had to a piece of horror. It's fantastic.
The creator said that the face was just a heavily edited version of the victim 2 guy Edit: for those of you who dont know who victim 2 is, its the Cesar dude who told Mark to set up the cameras
Also, to back up your Marcus claim: He explicitly states “you know how your house makes me feel (creeps me out?)” he was already afraid of the house. And Cesar (Doppelgänger) already knew this and took advantage of that fear
Hold on, there's usually a video about the authorities to do about the encounters with an alternate (I meant the catalog vid) and said that do not explain any further that they might know your fear, and with your theory or like an actual situation of Mark's incident, that litteraly said it.. Good find bro
"I don't want to spoil the horror of this series for you" That's exactly why I'm watching this lmao, I want to get a gist of it without being freaked the fuck out thanks.
I wanted to do this when it came out but no, my roommate didn't want to, and actually ended the video [borrowed his TV] after getting to the Don't answer the door, and when he watched it and heard a knock to a jumpscare, I shot him with a nerf gun.
as someone who has once spent entirely too much of my life writing something with hidden meanings and yadda yadda, it is SO hard not spilling the beans and explaining your entire thought process behind your material lol
the scariest thing about this is that when I was younger I used to have dreams of some kind of creature that looked exactly like my dad peering at me through a half creaked open door too the dark closet my parents had. I had this dream repetitively and in the dream the "monster" always looked exactly like my dad except for his face, which was badly deformed and smiling. The thing is that the creature looked exactly like the creatures in Mandela catalogue. I was around 7 years old when this happened to me and I am now 14. This makes the series feel even more real and sketchy too me especially.
When I first heard Cesar, I had the feeling he wasn’t completely right. If he was panicked and was trying to get his mother to the hospital after supposedly hearing her scream and possibly finding her limp on the ground, why was he so… lifeless? Even people who are trying to keep calm during stressful situations tend to have moments of panic come through or shakiness in their voice. But Cesar was speaking so calmly and casually like he was asking how the weather’s been treating his neighbor. It was a wonderful way to portray the mimics and how they may be similar but they still aren’t entirely human no matter how well they seem to hide it…
One could chalk it up to being in shock, but in that case it’s either: A. The Alternate forgot to sound panicked (as most humans would in this situation) which means the Shock hypothesis is coincidental and it just so happened to work out in the Alternate’s favour, B. The Alternate is so skilled at impersonating a human it can even pretend to be in shock at an event, or C. It’s just a plot device to foreshadow Cesar’s status as an Alternate and I’m just reading too far into it.
I only now realised by putting the operator instruction video and cesar's call to mark together that mark actually revealed his fear to "cesar": "you know how [your place] makes me feel." It lines up with his childhood trauma and I think with the season finale that mark has a fear of unsettling houses. the intruder that follows him home after setting up the cameras makes use of the closed door to create more fear (mark says he doesn't want to know what is on the other side i.e. he is afraid) and in the season finale where he keeps closely monitoring the two doors.
It's refreshing to hear that Alex has this planned out. So many horror creators have great ideas that run out of fuel before an ending because they don't have one in mind.
I can’t believe I’ve never heard of this until I found your channel recently, outside of seeing the intruder “I am in your home” meme I like watching channels like yours because I struggle to derive enjoyment from horror if I go in completely blind. After some traumatic events, my body developed a sporadic violent, visceral reaction to horror, closer to going into shock than a panic attack, and it makes engaging with scary media emotional Russian roulette, which bothers me because I loved horror movies and weird TH-cam. It forced me to pull back completely from that section of the internet and I’ve missed it
Distortion of the human form is the fucking bane of my sanity. Seeing something so eerily uncanny, that's nearly human, or rather was human, scares the ever living shit out of me.
My theory, is that you know how every religion has stories of hybrids? What if that’s just it. These things that look human but aren’t fully really there like us. Abominations. So we are terrified.

“Uh oh, Bad decision Mark” is objectively a funny sentence to have in a piece of horror media.
i’m just imagining it in tommy wiseau’s voice XD

I once saw a screenshot of a tweet that said "The scariest thing I ever heard is when someone pointed out that the existence of the uncanny valley implies that at one point there was an evolutionary reason to be afraid of something that looked human but wasn't."
This series literally brings out primal fears we didn't even know existed.
Maybe it was when humans were competing with Neanderthals who looked not quite human before the humans ultimately ended up killing all the Neanderthals off.
There’s actually a very simple explanation
Us humans, used to fight other species of humans, who sorta looked like us, but weren’t the same as us
Yeah except there used to be multiple species of humans that coexisted and would often fight with each other because we were all similarly apex predators, so that’s pretty much a solid explanation as you’ll get.
@@nymiancomplex7336 and maybe a side effect of our ability to recognize friends and family from strangers

Well after 'know your place' it says know your enemy but you make a good point
This might be running too far with it, but maybe there’s 3 Ks, (kill yourself, know your place, know your enemy) one for each type of threat. Invaders, Detectable, and Doppelgängers respectively

You have no clue how right you are
I prefer this interpretation/theory. Mary is such an interesting figure, it would be a shame if she wasnt more involved in this alternate mythos.
It feels more like the Exodus age, but this works
I always assumed the white text to be Jesus speaking, but that line, “my foolishness will be my legacy” always made me second guess that thought, because it didn’t seem to make much sense if it were Jesus. I hadn’t even thought of the possibility of it actually being Mary. That makes sooo much more sense, this kinda blows my mind ngl.

What makes the distorted Gabriel smile face so terrifying - is the thought and knowledge of absolute hopelessness for humanity in the face of something godly
Mark prays to God for days on end in his journal whilst the Alternate is outside his room, begging to be saved and begging for God to help and protect him
At the end of his journal, just before he kills himself, Mark writes: "Who have I been praying to all this time?"
That's the part that gives me goosebumps and makes my eyes watery
The thought that this "savior" is watching over Mark's suffering, and is not only not protecting him in spite of his prayers, but also is actually the one actively causing his suffering to begin with - that's what's so scary
We, the viewers, realize that in this universe - there is no true savior of humanity like Jesus, because the false savior prevented his birth and his role as a divine protector of mankind
God was long "overthrown" (hence the title of the first video) from his place by this First Alternate, and now the one that holds the Earth and the fate of humanity in the palm of his hands is a malicious entity that seeks to wipe out our race entirely
It's a feeling of absolute dread, and a complete loss of hope - one of the worst kinds of fears we experience, just behind the fear of the unknown
"Who have I been praying to all this time?" is still easily the scariest part of the series for me
The reason Wendigoon was so afraid of this part of the MC specifically, is probably because he lives his life according to his unwavering faith in God - any sense of hope in life he has comes from the belief that God loves him and is watching over him with kindness
And when you strip that away from any religious person, and add on top of that a malicious God that is actively desiring to kill us all - that's the perfect brew of horror

Very interesting, and true!
I think it’s more so an alternate using psychological manipulation. Religious people have an equally if not more powerful unseeable hope to fight an unseeable enemy. If you can get rid of hope in a supernatural savior, then you have no hope to fight a supernatural fear.

Nice to know Wendigoon is canonically scared by Jerma's sus face
Tbf that face is kinda creepy
It’s confirmed to be not jerma
The creator said that the face was just a heavily edited version of the victim 2 guy
Edit: for those of you who dont know who victim 2 is, its the Cesar dude who told Mark to set up the cameras
There’s a canon to this channel?
HOLY SHIT "IMPOSTER", DISTORTED FACE, "SUSPICIOUS". THE SUS FACE IS JERMAS ALTERNATE
Also, to back up your Marcus claim: He explicitly states “you know how your house makes me feel (creeps me out?)” he was already afraid of the house. And Cesar (Doppelgänger) already knew this and took advantage of that fear
Holy shit you’re right
He should’ve just declined and waited for Cesar to go back to the house and do it himself. Then he’d know.
Very good observation sir
Hold on, there's usually a video about the authorities to do about the encounters with an alternate (I meant the catalog vid) and said that do not explain any further that they might know your fear, and with your theory or like an actual situation of Mark's incident, that litteraly said it..
Good find bro

I watched Matpat react to it bc I’m such a wimp lmao
I wanted to do this when it came out but no, my roommate didn't want to, and actually ended the video [borrowed his TV] after getting to the Don't answer the door, and when he watched it and heard a knock to a jumpscare, I shot him with a nerf gun.
I should've done that
I watched it. It's not scary
To think that Alex almost explained everything to wendigoon because he wanted to make a video is kinda funny to me

Alex was so excited that a TH-camr he likes wants to make a video on his series he almost spilt everything lol. That's kinda cute tho

the scariest thing about this is that when I was younger I used to have dreams of some kind of creature that looked exactly like my dad peering at me through a half creaked open door too the dark closet my parents had.

It was a wonderful way to portray the mimics and how they may be similar but they still aren’t entirely human no matter how well they seem to hide it…
Cesar sus face
I just kinda assumed the acting wasnt that good tbh
@@benhawk4214 its hard to do VA when done right
Watching Maple County gameplay would perhaps explain; until further confirmation, my headcanon says the boy was Caesar.
One could chalk it up to being in shock, but in that case it’s either:
A. The Alternate forgot to sound panicked (as most humans would in this situation) which means the Shock hypothesis is coincidental and it just so happened to work out in the Alternate’s favour,
B. The Alternate is so skilled at impersonating a human it can even pretend to be in shock at an event, or
Oh my GOD
Ahhhhhhh
yooo that's clever
Mark got alternated when he was a kid. :)
It's refreshing to hear that Alex has this planned out. So many horror creators have great ideas that run out of fuel before an ending because they don't have one in mind.
I can’t believe I’ve never heard of this until I found your channel recently, outside of seeing the intruder “I am in your home” meme
I like watching channels like yours because I struggle to derive enjoyment from horror if I go in completely blind.

As a person with horrible eyesight without corrective lenses, the idea of alternates (specifically the redacted type), is absolutely terrifying and way too real. Maybe the reason why the police would never respond to a frantic call is maybe because the “caller” might be an alternate trying to lure people.
Thats what I thought ! I think its probably a fact tbh
With the mark audio call, its pretty obvious they also take the memories of who they copy/kill as the neighboor knew things about mark that a stranger wouldnt
I wonder if whoever made that video was also an alternate? It'd explain why the tone in that section is completely different from the rest of the video. Maybe they said that so their latest victim COULDN'T potentially get any help. Their whole thing is trying to trick and deceive people, right? That could also probably explain why they're trying to keep people away from other things like TVs so everyone could stay pretty much uninformed of this whole situation
