It just dawned on me, how the name “Dante’s Inferno” is, quite literally, a hell of Dante’s design. Not in the sense that it caters to his weaknesses to torture him, as other stories do, but it’s literally a hell the he thought up and decided upon. Since it’s a comedy, I don’t really feel like he believes this stuff, but believes that this stuff would be accurate in a world of his making. It’s like Dante, himself, is being led through a hell that he created by someone he admires. This isn’t THE hell, it’s Dante’s hell: the hell Dante made. It would explain all of the “I don’t like you, so you’re in hell now”.
But maybe I’m coping XD I’d believe it.

    • @coltonwhite2518

I wouldn't say you're coping at all. That sounds like a much more genuine interpretation than some of these brain rot "lawl fan insert" comments with 5k+ likes.
It reminds me of that one part in the game(yes, I'm aware of their massive differences) where Dante demands to know why he can't see the enemies of the crusaders in the Inferno. Lucifer responds mockingly that they thought their cause was holy too, implying that they are indeed suffering as well, and then says "But this isn't their hell Dante, it's yours".

I was thinking about that a bit. If the interiors are LEAD, that shit is stupidly heavy, hence lead pipe being a long running murder weapon in Clue. Depending on how those coats are constructed, they're possibly marching around in a manner where breathing would be next to impossible while being completely encumbered. (Not to mention what that would do to the shoulders the weight is draped over.) Worse than perma-roast, unlikely. Still not the best day in the afterlife to have.

    • @thatboymeak
      @thatboymeak 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

@@jasonrhome710 ironically, a lead pipe is one of the least deadly weapons every.
you can punch a hole through lead, you can bend it, rip it with your bare hands even, lead is incredibly malleable.
the solid lead you see isn't actually solid lead, it'll be a lead alloy
but that also means you could mold the lead into a support system that you could lean back on while standing - the only way it would be heavy enough as pure lead would be if there's a lot of it, like inches thick all over - but lead being incredibly malleable means an inch think can be spread millimeters thin under enough pressure (less pressure the hotter it is...)
you could build a lot outta that coat

Fun fact: the Divine Comedy came to Dante in a dream, and it was basically treated as a holy vision by a bunch of people in the Catholic Church. Holy visions were kind of common back in the day? But yeah, people believed that he really went to Hell, Purgatory and Heaven and the Comedy is a retelling of a real thing he did.

    Stuff referenced in Limbus Company:
7:16 - Dante wakes up in a dark forest, is attacked by wild animals (in LCB it's characters with animal names/themes)
7:40 - Virgil is Vergilius in LCB who, just like Virgil, acts as Dante's guide through the story
8:45 - Vergilius literally tells Dante LCB that they have to go through the inferno
12:14 - This is just a hunch of mine, but I think the people who try to attack Mephi while Dante LCB and crew are travelling might be a parallel to the sea of lost souls
13:20 - The bus driver in LCB is Charon
17:05 - I feel like in LCB Vergilius gets this treatment instead of Dante. Also I have a hunch that this group could be reflected by Yuri and the other two fixers. So far I've only played up to the dungeon in Canto 3.5, but I have a feeling that these sort of characters that only appear for one or two cantos before dying or disappearing are meant to parallel the sinners Dante talks to in each layer
21:12 - Just a hunch of mine, but I feel like Effie and Saude could be a reference to these two. See previous note
Will update this as I progress through the game more

I don't believe he's a Gary Stu. While the story is centered on him, he presents himself as fallible. I know at least once Vergil admonishes him for having pity on those in Hell, since God has judged them as unworthy of such. Several times Vergil has to explain things to him. Dante grows throughout The Comedy. He's certainly not presented as THE BESTEST EVAHR, which is how I think of a Mary Sue.

the Divine Comedy is written in first person just because to write "I did... I viewed" is more pregnant than writing "Charlie did... Charlie viewed". The "Dante" character of the Divine comedy is a worse version of the real life Dante. Is always scared (Dante was a war veteran) and much of the time he doesn't understand what's happening around him (when it was Dante the poet that wrote those allegories).

Not that anyone asked, but the minotaur (as guardian of the circle of the violents) rapresent a person's more animalistic and bestial instincts, which is why Virgil (an allegory of human reason trought the entire poem) can dismiss it like it's nothing. It's an allegory of reason winning over instinct.
