Summary:
Originally broadcast on MTV as the headline act of its New Year's Eve broadcast and simulcast on FM radio for the King Biscuit Flower Hour, this lively set from the popular British New Wave rockers Duran Duran marks their first major New York City triumph.
The group, which was spearheaded by vocalist Simon LeBon, had ruled the MTV charts since the end of the previous year, but they did not take off on radio as rapidly. For this show, Duran Duran was not only performing to a packed house at New York's Palladium Theater, they were playing to millions of viewers all over the world. The stakes were high, and Duran Duran went for the gold. Shortly after this performance, in early 1983, "Rio" was in the U.S. Top 10.
All the essential early hits are featured here - including "Rio," "Save A Prayer," "Hungry Like The Wolf," and "Girls On Film." The show is interrupted to count down the New Year on MTV, but otherwise it remains a consistently upbeat show. The group augmented its original five-piece lineup with the addition of saxophonist/keyboard player Andy Hamilton.
This performance showcases the band when they were on the brink of worldwide stardom, if they weren't already there. The success of Duran Duran during this time period gave them enough momentum to get through most of the eighties as a successful act. It would also serve as the base of hits to keep the band poised for more than one reunion in the years that followed. - เพลง
Despite the annoying clipping on Simon's mic input due to occasional human error, this video is a masterpiece. The band sounds tight, and YES his voice sounds amazing. Unlike ultra processed performances of most of today "artists", these bands were legit musicians. What you saw is what you got, pure, raw, live. Love it!
John Taylor is effortlessly cool.
He is a natural. Yet he allows Simon to shine in the spotlight.

I don't think the audience knew what they were hearing, this was new years eve 83, the album Rio still hadn't been released.
It was released like 6 months before this.
John Williams YES! Rio came out in summer 82 and the band became super popular on MTV although American radio lagged behind, not catching up until late 82 early 83. When “Rio” hit the US top 10 in early 83 the band was already set to start their next phase with Is There Something I Should Know in March 83.
It was released just didn't get popular until a couple months after this.

In the early 80's Boy Bands made their own music & played their own musical instruments. By late the 80's all they could do is sing while some unknown people behind the scenes made the actual music.
What a fabulous song.
The successful version of "Hungry Like the Wolf" (It was remixed and re-released.) came out as a single in the US on the day I was born, December 3, 1982. What a great day!

I remember this NREV 1982 watch it at my sister house my sister and her friends were partying like crazy dancing around to this song that night I was 16 and my sister friends were hot I was trying to get with one of her friends that was married to a real DB she was 23 it didn’t happen that night but it happened when I was 18 then I had to hide from her wife beating hubby dude was pissed off at me !! she finally dump him a few years after I hit it then she was really obsessed with me calling my house asking my mom if I was home and driving around looking for me crazy bitch... finally my sister step in and told her to leave me alone..
