True! It was the upbeat and catchy sound coupled with videos that had high production values that sparked interest in them as a band. In the 1980's, Duran Duran and Michael Jackson generally had the best videos.
My father had speakers on the roof of are garage and would blast Hungry Like The Wolf. I remember when I was younger I would dance with him and smile and it was so fun! We would play dice and listen to this song, there’s so much nostalgia. God I miss those days so much. It was so fun and my father and I would do everything together! Those memories I’ll never forget. Rest In Peace Dad, you’ll always be my hero :)
It only SEEMED like that.. Underneath all this was a lot of turmoil Economic and elsewise just like NOW in 2024.. The music the dance culture and the drugs just took us away from everything else that was happening all around this
@@ChrisMartin-pu6cv BULLSHYT.. This was when woke culture was being born at this very time but it was of a different sort of wokeness back at that time In the 90s it got taken over by the feminist but the whole woke culture had started at this very time
It's still hard for me to hear/listen to this song. This was my late wife's song for me. They way she'd look at me when this song was playing is unforgettable. Love and miss you, beautiful
This is first song that I have ever heard of DURAN Duran way back in 82, I was like, who is this? I have been crazy over Duran Duran ever since. There will never be another band like Duran Duran. True musical icons now and forever.
I'm so old that I remember this being the DD song that made me think they were going downhill, but I later realised DD had done well to have two of the best music video makers of the era involved with their earlier big hits "Planet Earth" (Russell Mulcahy) and "Girls On Film" (Godley & Creme) . "Hungry Like the Wolf" is really silly, and so is "Rio", so much so that they're almost campy; but hey, DD elected to go down the Teen Idol track (especially after scoring a US hit $$$ and who can blame them). I don't mind at all hearing HLTW these days on a play list of 80s hits. No Bryan Adams, that's all I ask. But the good old "they don't make music like this any more" - oh dear. There is ALWAYS good music, ALL the time, and the stuff that you find hard because it's ... challenging... might be the best of all. An open mind, keep an open mind.
And still going strong 💪 all of them have aged beautifully. I hope I get to meet them one day before they die😞I want their autographs on my thigh so I can tattoo them. They'd be with me forever then.
Pause the video by 1:38 there’s a sign board behind the dude, it says hydraulic Jack and something in Sinhala. PS: all the license plates and police uniform too This was our homeland back in 80s
I was around 7 too when this came out. I didn't get to see the video till years later, but it's the first Duran song I remember hearing. I do recall being afraid of Michael Jackson in Thriller though!
When I got this 45 back in the day I took it into my room and blasted it at top volume, fully prepared to piss my parents off. Sure enough, my dad comes busting into my room. "What is this music!" he demanded. "Hungry Like the Wolf by Duran Duran," I said, sticking my lower lip out, ready to go into full snotty teen mode. "I LOVE IT!" he exclaimed. "This song is great! Tape me a copy of this!" Teen rebellion failed! It was kind of a letdown, but at the same time, a great bonding moment with my dad.
As a teenager in the 80s I was heavily into alternative music at the time. I knew these songs but now in 2022 I have come back to this to realise that damn, these are some really good songs. John Taylor's bass lines are just groove heaven
It was really non-stop awesome music in the early-mid 80s on MTV. Just one after another. Def Leppard, Robert Plant, Cindi Lauper, Van Halen, Talking Heads, The Pretenders, ZZ Top, Billy Idol, The Scorpions, The Go Gos, Culture Club, Duran Duran, The Fixx....I could probably list fifty more.
Seems like technology has blessed and cursed us. Remember the walkman and making mix tapes? The fun of trying to buy a playboy underage? It was much easier back then to get alcohol as a minor tho. Now everyone is woke, stoned and addicted to their mobile phones. And going to covid parties as well. Maybe doctor who can take me back in the tardis. Where is tom baker when you need him?
There was no decade like the 80s. To live untethered to cell phones and gps. The Golden Age of the Arcade and Home Computers/Console, Dungeons and Dragons. What a time to be a teen. Wouldn't have traded it for any other decade.
@@MatthiasTTV Haha. Think it was a dose of nostalgia but did watch Stranger Things whenever last season was. Even better...in real life I got to live it :D
I was still senior in high school when we really got into their music. A friend of mine, his brother bought the album and then we were hooked. Loved this song, recall when it first hit the radio and MTV, yes, that programming station where they actually played music videos and not that BS that they do now. We even drove out from NJ to CT in a snow storm, a 4.5 hour drive, hoping not to miss the show and Duran Duran were delayed as well, due to the weather, but they came, put on an amazing show and we met some cool people before the concert. It was fun and all of this, the music, brings back amazing 80s memories. Very nostalgic.

Fascinated by your comments. I am amazed that people that did not live during the 1980's live that decade's music. It was my favorite time to be alive! I miss all the energy the music the mentality, the opportunities and the joy of living then! We didn't need the Internet at all! So much joy !! I have never before or since experienced such an aliveness! It is not simply nostalgia. It is the memory of that 10 year period.

Same. Duran Duran are timeless, inventive and brilliant musicians. They are still relevant after 40 years and leave the 'music' of today for dead.

Everything seems to be so marvelous about the 80s .. The Music. The Fashion.. The Trends .. Everybody Wish They Could still live in that Era

Yeah and no woke bullsh¡t

Oh HELL YEAH! 80'S ROCKED!❤
It's still hard for me to hear/listen to this song. This was my late wife's song for me. They way she'd look at me when this song was playing is unforgettable. Love and miss you, beautiful
This is first song that I have ever heard
of DURAN Duran way back in 82, I was like, who is this? I have been crazy over Duran Duran ever since. There will never be another band like Duran Duran. True musical icons now and forever.
Agreed! Duran Duran was an unrepeatable phenomenon.
Me. I even wrote about it stevepafford.com/hungrywolf/

"I LOVE IT!" he exclaimed. "This song is great! Tape me a copy of this!"
