TO ALL NON FATE FANS: Mahoyo was meant to be the first Type-Moon/Nasuverse work, so it’s actually “meant” to be read/watched before all other works. (But it can totally be experienced by itself) It’s an introduction into the lore of Nasu, and the main character, Aoko, is *incredibly* important in the franchise and is one of the Four Main Faces of the franchise (Aoko, Saber, Arcueid, Ryougi Shiki).
I know the sister of the main character in this is the PI in garden of sinners who also is the reason why shiro got his body at the end of heavens feel. But how does tsukihime connect?

Mahoyo is one of the best stories written by Nasu I suggest people should try to play the Visual Novel you wont be disappointed! it recently got its official English translation as well
I will say for anyone who is interested, if this is adapted properly, you can watch this without any context from other Type Moon properties. In fact, this is actually the perfect way to get into the Nasuverse given its focus on world building. A little warning. This series is more focused on it characters and world building, so there might not be as much fighting as say Fate.

Either way, many would argue that this should be watched before Fate since it contains some of the most essential world building for the Nasuverse as a whole and was always intended to be the first installment in the Nasuverse. Although of course you can still watch Fate on its own too if you want.

Ufotable, along with Shaft and Studio WIT, are the only production studios I'll watch just because they've made the show, even if i have little or no interest in the material. The quality/technique/experimentation will always give you at least something to enjoy.

Tsukihime remake will probably be next. I'm thinking mahoyo will be 2 parts in the movie format which is cool. Personally Kara no kyoukai needs to get more love from the public. Those ufotable type moon movies were the first and still amazing today
I thought we wouldn't get any Type-Moon content from Ufotable for a while since they're busy with Demon Slayer but I'm glad I was wrong, Can't wait to see this new story from Nasu.
Technically, this was Nasu’s first written work. He initially planned to get it released as a novel but wasn’t able to since this was before he gained fame through Fate and Tsukihime. He later repurposed the script as a visual novel in 2011 I think after establishing Type Moon and gaining popularity through Fate and Tsukihime. Having just played the remake that came out last year, you can definitely tell that Witch On The Holy Night was always intended to be the first installment in the Nasuverse. It contains some of the most essential world building for the Nasuverse and the magic system in much more depth than either Fate or Tsukihime. It’s also rather appropriate that the remake last year was the first full length Type Moon Visual Novel to receive an official global release and localization.
@@wamaschawama5178actually not really. Mahoyo is direct prequel to tsukihime. Fate stay night is technically the sequel to knk because they take place in same timeline. A version of mahoyos events still happened in the fate/knk timeline but it was somewhat different than the story being told here. Basically a similar result though

Although, if they are doing multiple part movies like with Heavens Feel, which I suspect and hope they will since I can’t imagine them being able to adapt the story in just 1, then that character may not be in the first movie since I suspect that it’ll probably only adapt to the end of Chapter 5 of 13 of the visual novel and they don’t appear until later save for a single brief scene in the early game which may or may not get cut.
I don't know if I want ufotable to animate this they have amazing animation but the series only has 2 fight scenes and this series is carried by its characters and their personalities, ufotable has a history of cutting interaction between characters so I hope they don't do that here
The Mahoyo Visual Novel is already well animated. Its one of the best produced Visual Novel in terms of art and visual presentation. From the looks of the trailer, I'm already loving what Ufotable did. All of the scenes used is a 1:1 of the scenes in the novel, just more animated. For those wanting to start the Nasuverse side of things Mahoyo is the perfect gateway. Its less info dump and honestly its the easiest to digest work out of the other main Nasuverse works (Kara no Kyoukai, Tsukihime, Fate).
Exactly the visual novel is THAT good that an animated version of it just seems pointless in every regard. But still welcome 😍 I can't wait to see Aoko!
2:35 correction it has one thing to do with fate but you dont have to watch fate to understand it. Its that this has a tie in with garden of sinners which has a tie in with fate heavens feel. Now this is more so to show that these are infact part of the same universe. You dont even have to watch any of these to understand what was going on in fate becuase it was just a cameo. Anything that does not have fate in its name can be watch seperately from fate and vice versa but these still have a connection to eachother in forms of cameos and as you said world building
Literally just saw it, I've been reading the Visual Novel in 2023 and I'm only 3 Chapters before the End Witch on the Holy Night is one of the best Visual Novels I've read, it's a Linear story with no choices but it's super engaging, the characters are so good and developed throughout even with the Side-cast, the music is GOLD I am so happy they got the music from the Visual Novel to this movie😊 I have no experience with Fate/Stay but I am familiar with Tsukihime which is the Nasu-verse property I like the most out of it and Garden of Sinners The main character Aoko is from Tsukihime and Witch on the Holy Night is her backstory before Tsukihime has far as I'm aware If they do a good translation which I believe Ufotable will do then you don't need to worry and can start right here without any prior knowledge of Tsukihime and Fate The Visual Novel is super in-depth but for anime/movie purposes they obliviously are gonna cut stuff out and I'm very interested to see what it's gonna be cut because the Visual Novel is really dense. I'm so looking forward to it and HOPE this does well so that Ufotable can FINALLY do an adaptation of Tsukihime if this does well🤞😖😊

It's so crazy how far we've come to this story! I remember just fantasizing over an English release of the VN, even hoping for an anime adaptation. I remember years ago when an animated fan trailer came out for it. It looked good to me, and it still does! That fan trailer was my introduction to Witch on a holy night. And I am so glad to have finally read it a year ago when it rereleased with voice acting, updated visuals, and an English translation! It's one of my favorite type moon works by far, I love the music, it's all so good! We are going to be in for an experience, ladies and gentlemen! My friends and I have waited a long time for great things like this to happen and I am just hopeful for the future. I wish to see you all then!
Just so you guys know this is technically a prequel to some of the events of "kara no kyoukai" or "the garden of sinners" OVAs i think. Also important for some characters from the tsukihime VN.
Aoko and her family are very important in kara no kyoukai and tsukihime because spoilers.. .they later be mentors to the main characters of those stories.
I remember reading this back in 2015 when it was translated into English. God, I can still just link the soundtrack and visuals in my head. That last portion was a massive nostalgia trap and I fell right for it. Can't wait to see this come out in theaters (probably).
4:30 Btw Ufotable are heavily connected with type-moon they even made the anime garden of sinners based on kinoku nasus light novel back in 2007 or 2008 I think. They also do the openings for some of their games like tsukihime a piece of blue glass moon.

Typemoon as videogame/visual novel company that creates various series as games or novels and often provides the rights to make adaptations(anime or mangas) of their games and novels. This is Witch on The holy night one of the earliest works they ever made as a light novel/book that was rejected by publishers due to being too long. Eventually they made a visual novel remake in 2012 which is what the movie adaptations by ufotable will be based on. The nasuverse is simply the shared universe of all typemoon works. Fate, Tsukihime, Kara no kyoukai and Witch on the holy night. Its how you simply talk about the universe of all the series together.
Think of it like Marvel, Type-Moon is the company name (marvel), nasuverse is the name of the franchise (MCU), and fate, witch on the holy night (this new one), as well as a bunch of other ones, are all loosely connected and are all set in the same world.

I don't want to be the "Ackshually" guy, but MahoYo doesn't take place in the same universe as other Fate works. The Nasuverse has 2 types of worlds, Fate worlds where you can summon servants, and Tsukihime worlds where you can't and there's Dead Apostle Ancestors, MahoYo falls in this second type of world. Some of the world building is shared, but it focuses more on the magecraft part and vampires, no holy grail wars can take place in this kind of world though.
I'm so glad they decided to animate Mahou tsukai no Yoru. I've always been a big fan of Aoko Aozaki since the Tsukihime visual novel and the melty blood 2d fighting game.
Mahoyo is it's own thing and can be watched without having any knowledge on fate. So this is going to be pretty popular when it releases since a lot of new people will be watching it.
There is Two Studios that have known how to use CG for years. Studio Blur in the west (almost every good games CG is by them and all the good CG game ADs too) and Ufotable in the east. Yes they do amazing animation but they are one of studios that master CG to make it really good and blend into animation.
Can you watch it? Yes. Should you watch it? FUCKING DEFINITELY. The game is the single DEFINITIVE best place to get into the universe Nasu has crafted, and if this adaptation can properly capture that, then it is a must watch. Without question.

Thanks for sharing this excitings news about the new Mahoyo movie. I played the game and it was incredible ( I love everything in the nasuverse so it was expected) The visuals looks stunning and the music will be great too (the ost of the game is very beautiful). For sure the fight scenes will be great, but thats not what Mahoyo is about. This makes me worry about the movie adaptation, I dont know how they will handle the slice of life and character interaction elements, the game also has some extra chapters which they most likely wont even mention in the anime.
I feel the same way, I'm really afraid of the direction they will take with the movie. There is a lot in the story that isnt "relevant" to the plot, but is I would say important to the story and the overall message the novel sends. For example, gentrification is a theme that is seen in the novel and I found to be interesting in the context of the story, but I could easily be taken out as it serves no real purpose to the plot. I just hope no "slice of life" scenes get cut off.
There is something with the artstyle that doesn't click with me on first sight, looks a bit to sharp and shiny. Giving it a more photorealistic feel then hand drawn if you ask me. The VX frame where she uses the magic circle though looks great! Probably going to give it a watch as I do like the Fate series and especially so those few that are set outside the holy grail war.
It’s down to preferences really, no specific art style is technically incorrect if done well. I believe that some series should have a photo realism feel to it and it would match the vibes and story of a show, while others shouldn’t. For example, a show like Violet Evergarden works better with the “sharp and shiny” art style rather than a more rough straight drawing/inking. At the same time, shows like Mob Psycho would NOT fit in a photorealistic type art style, and thrives in its rough drawings and minimalistic compositing. In Mahoyo’s regards, this photo-realism style completely matches it considering the visual novel is one of the most visually stunning VN’s out there to the point where even for Ufotable’s standards, they will need to go all out to match it.

This will be a movie, and we should get two of them. It is also the best starting point into the nasuverse bar none, wait for this or read the visual novel if you are into them, it is a treat.
Witch on the Holy Night takes place in the same universe as Fate, Tsukihime, and Kara no Kyoukai. However, this story was created long before any of those and is the founding title of the Nasuverse, setting the basics of the world that the other titles would later expand upon. None of the characters in the trailer are in Fate.

The Mahoyo Visual Novel is already well animated. Its one of the best produced Visual Novel in terms of art and visual presentation. From the looks of the trailer, I'm already loving what Ufotable did. All of the scenes used is a 1:1 of the scenes in the novel, just more animated. For those wanting to start the Nasuverse side of things Mahoyo is the perfect gateway. Its less info dump and honestly its the easiest to digest work out of the other main Nasuverse works (Kara no Kyoukai, Tsukihime, Fate).
Exactly the visual novel is THAT good that an animated version of it just seems pointless in every regard.
But still welcome 😍 I can't wait to see Aoko!
2:35 correction it has one thing to do with fate but you dont have to watch fate to understand it. Its that this has a tie in with garden of sinners which has a tie in with fate heavens feel. Now this is more so to show that these are infact part of the same universe. You dont even have to watch any of these to understand what was going on in fate becuase it was just a cameo. Anything that does not have fate in its name can be watch seperately from fate and vice versa but these still have a connection to eachother in forms of cameos and as you said world building

Witch on the Holy Night is one of the best Visual Novels I've read, it's a Linear story with no choices but it's super engaging, the characters are so good and developed throughout even with the Side-cast, the music is GOLD I am so happy they got the music from the Visual Novel to this movie😊
I have no experience with Fate/Stay but I am familiar with Tsukihime which is the Nasu-verse property I like the most out of it and Garden of Sinners
The main character Aoko is from Tsukihime and Witch on the Holy Night is her backstory before Tsukihime has far as I'm aware
If they do a good translation which I believe Ufotable will do then you don't need to worry and can start right here without any prior knowledge of Tsukihime and Fate
The Visual Novel is super in-depth but for anime/movie purposes they obliviously are gonna cut stuff out and I'm very interested to see what it's gonna be cut because the Visual Novel is really dense. I'm so looking forward to it and HOPE this does well so that Ufotable can FINALLY do an adaptation of Tsukihime if this does well🤞😖😊
The fact that the Tsukihime remake VN is getting a western release, here's to hoping that gets an adaptation.

Ufotable is such a gem for having incredible animators, We probably all known them for Demon Slayer but for their upcoming titles like the Genshin Impact anime, I am so ready for their other projects!

the complains isnt about animation but a structural problem with how to adapt the story as its far more suited for a seasonal anime than a movie.
It's so crazy how far we've come to this story! I remember just fantasizing over an English release of the VN, even hoping for an anime adaptation. I remember years ago when an animated fan trailer came out for it. It looked good to me, and it still does! That fan trailer was my introduction to Witch on a holy night. And I am so glad to have finally read it a year ago when it rereleased with voice acting, updated visuals, and an English translation! It's one of my favorite type moon works by far, I love the music, it's all so good! We are going to be in for an experience, ladies and gentlemen! My friends and I have waited a long time for great things like this to happen and I am just hopeful for the future. I wish to see you all then!
Just so you guys know this is technically a prequel to some of the events of "kara no kyoukai" or "the garden of sinners" OVAs i think.
Also important for some characters from the tsukihime VN.
Aoko and her family are very important in kara no kyoukai and tsukihime because spoilers.. .they later be mentors to the main characters of those stories.

Tsukihime fans rejoice, this is the closest we can get to a expanded backstory for the Tsukihime lore.
I remember reading this back in 2015 when it was translated into English. God, I can still just link the soundtrack and visuals in my head. That last portion was a massive nostalgia trap and I fell right for it. Can't wait to see this come out in theaters (probably).

That's true. Hopefully this new Anime will not be a disgrace like DS and Ufotable will bring out a new banger.
4:30 Btw Ufotable are heavily connected with type-moon they even made the anime garden of sinners based on kinoku nasus light novel back in 2007 or 2008 I think. They also do the openings for some of their games like tsukihime a piece of blue glass moon.

Can someone explain what Type Moon is...or what the anime ufotable is making even called? Is it another fate series....or what the nasuverse is...is fate also considered typemoon and nasuverse at the same time.... I'm under a rock i need a detailed explanation. Typemoon as videogame/visual novel company that creates various series as games or novels and often provides the rights to make adaptations(anime or mangas) of their games and novels.
This is Witch on The holy night one of the earliest works they ever made as a light novel/book that was rejected by publishers due to being too long. Eventually they made a visual novel remake in 2012 which is what the movie adaptations by ufotable will be based on.
The nasuverse is simply the shared universe of all typemoon works. Fate, Tsukihime, Kara no kyoukai and Witch on the holy night. Its how you simply talk about the universe of all the series together.
Think of it like Marvel, Type-Moon is the company name (marvel), nasuverse is the name of the franchise (MCU), and fate, witch on the holy night (this new one), as well as a bunch of other ones, are all loosely connected and are all set in the same world.

They finally released the new trailer for Mahotsukai no yoru! Like fkin finally. The first trailer barely shows anything.
As a Witch on the Holy Night fan, i'm so excited. Ufotable deserved to work on this project.
Also the main character is Aoko Aozaki, the little sister of Touko Aozaki of Garden of Sinners.
I watched the VN on TH-cam last year when they announced they'd be producing this. Really looking forward to it.

Do I have to pirate a fan translated game to understand it? Because I might check it out. I can finally watch a Ufotable anime that’s not Demon Slayer without reading a VN not officially available.
I mean, we don't know how well they are going to adapt it yet until it is out. But the VN its based on has been officially released in English and is available on consoles and on Steam.

@@nameless8789 yeah the only way we would get Fate/Stay Night is if we got a remake. I’ve heard about it being translated and I’m hopeful we will get a remake so they will actually localize it. That’s the only reason why they would release it in the west. Also aren’t they translating the Tsukihime remake?

At last: young Aozaki Aoko, along with this version of her exquisite older sister, in full anime glory.
I don't want to be the "Ackshually" guy, but MahoYo doesn't take place in the same universe as other Fate works. The Nasuverse has 2 types of worlds, Fate worlds where you can summon servants, and Tsukihime worlds where you can't and there's Dead Apostle Ancestors, MahoYo falls in this second type of world. Some of the world building is shared, but it focuses more on the magecraft part and vampires, no holy grail wars can take place in this kind of world though.

I'm so glad they decided to animate Mahou tsukai no Yoru. I've always been a big fan of Aoko Aozaki since the Tsukihime visual novel and the melty blood 2d fighting game.

Mahoyo is it's own thing and can be watched without having any knowledge on fate. So this is going to be pretty popular when it releases since a lot of new people will be watching it.

There is Two Studios that have known how to use CG for years. Studio Blur in the west (almost every good games CG is by them and all the good CG game ADs too) and Ufotable in the east. Yes they do amazing animation but they are one of studios that master CG to make it really good and blend into animation.
I can't imagine what they're cooking for the Infinity Castle Arc.

Can you watch it? Yes. Should you watch it? FUCKING DEFINITELY. The game is the single DEFINITIVE best place to get into the universe Nasu has crafted, and if this adaptation can properly capture that, then it is a must watch. Without question.

This is Ufotable on a film budget. All I really want for the 20th anniversary of fsn is an official English release. Just, shut it and take my money, Type-Moon.

Mahoyo is a standalone story but yeah it can be treated as a prequel to Tsukihime. Also yes, Aoko here is the same Aoko seen in the beginning of Tsukihime.
While Aoko appears in both the actual plots arent connected. They are separated stories with just one cameo character.

Thanks for sharing this excitings news about the new Mahoyo movie. I played the game and it was incredible ( I love everything in the nasuverse so it was expected)
The visuals looks stunning and the music will be great too (the ost of the game is very beautiful). For sure the fight scenes will be great, but thats not what Mahoyo is about. This makes me worry about the movie adaptation, I dont know how they will handle the slice of life and character interaction elements, the game also has some extra chapters which they most likely wont even mention in the anime.
I feel the same way, I'm really afraid of the direction they will take with the movie. There is a lot in the story that isnt "relevant" to the plot, but is I would say important to the story and the overall message the novel sends. For example, gentrification is a theme that is seen in the novel and I found to be interesting in the context of the story, but I could easily be taken out as it serves no real purpose to the plot. I just hope no "slice of life" scenes get cut off.

In terms of production quality, Ufotable is probably number 1 among all anime studios.
There is something with the artstyle that doesn't click with me on first sight, looks a bit to sharp and shiny. Giving it a more photorealistic feel then hand drawn if you ask me. The VX frame where she uses the magic circle though looks great! Probably going to give it a watch as I do like the Fate series and especially so those few that are set outside the holy grail war.
It’s down to preferences really, no specific art style is technically incorrect if done well. I believe that some series should have a photo realism feel to it and it would match the vibes and story of a show, while others shouldn’t. For example, a show like Violet Evergarden works better with the “sharp and shiny” art style rather than a more rough straight drawing/inking. At the same time, shows like Mob Psycho would NOT fit in a photorealistic type art style, and thrives in its rough drawings and minimalistic compositing. In Mahoyo’s regards, this photo-realism style completely matches it considering the visual novel is one of the most visually stunning VN’s out there to the point where even for Ufotable’s standards, they will need to go all out to match it.
Ufotable is largely known for mixing 2D and 3D animation together. but they do it absolutely stunningly.

This will be a movie, and we should get two of them. It is also the best starting point into the nasuverse bar none, wait for this or read the visual novel if you are into them, it is a treat.

Witch on the Holy Night takes place in the same universe as Fate, Tsukihime, and Kara no Kyoukai. However, this story was created long before any of those and is the founding title of the Nasuverse, setting the basics of the world that the other titles would later expand upon. None of the characters in the trailer are in Fate.
same characters? where? You should double check because they dont look the same at all. Just look any Aozaki Aoko image and try to compare it and you will see they dont look alike.
