  • Boromir, son of Denethor II and older brother of Faramir, stood alone in the world of Men in Tolkien's Middle-Earth. Not just as a warrior, but as a member of the Fellowship of the Ring.
From his early beginnings as a young soldier under his father's watchful eye, to his heroic deeds in the Fellowship and the lure of the One Ring that was ultimately his undoing, this video walks through his path from beginning to end.
Sit back, relax and enjoy, and if you enjoyed this, let me know which character you'd like to see explored next!

Subscriber #466. You did such a great job narrating and telling your story. I hope you get the numbers you need to monetize your channel. I look forward to seeing your other videos.

Thank you so much for subscribing and for the kind words, I really appreciate it! I would absolutely love to reach monetization eventually - I've noticed TH-cam placing ads on my videos regardless, so it would be great to make something of that and maybe one day make this something more full-time. I've considered other monetization/support options (Patreon and whatnot), but we'll see how that goes, and what I could make that folks would be up for supporting that way. Either way, plenty more videos still to come! :)

Thank you so much for stopping by and watching! I make the thumbnail art using Canva's tools, mostly because I'm going for that specific 'watercolour' look :) I'd love to be able to hire an artist down the road to work on this, fingers crossed. I really appreciate the kind comments!

Such a great naration! Im enjoying so much your videos.
Enough with compliments, lets talk literature! 😆
I have read LotR, Hobbit, Silmarillion and Unfinished Tales. I have not read and do not posses History of Middle Eart by Christopher Tolkien. That being said, i dont know if Boromir's character is more deeply explored in HoME series. But as far as it was in LotR, and this is just me, character was missing some depth. Something more. Maybe it was just presence, i dont know. Sean Bean did really good job in movies prolonging his character a little bit. So this might be just me, but thats what i think of book character Boromir compared to movie one. Would like to hear your thoughts on this and maybe clarification is there any more info on the character if you aware of it.
Edit: let me be clear, i am not reffering to Boromir's character ark.

Boromir is a hero. Well worthy of being part of the Fellowship. He was overcome by the same power that overcame Isildur himself. There is no shame in that, only tragedy.
It took me some time as a kid to understand this (I first read the LOTR 40+ years ago). But now I see this part of the LOTR as one of most powerful parts of the whole cycle. There is NOTHING weak or evil in Boromir, he is simply overcome by the evil in the ring. Same as EVERYONE ELSE WHO EVER TOUCHED IT. Including Frodo.
And Boromir understood his failing seconds after Frodo ran from him. And then spent his life to protect Merry and Pippin after that, knowing that he would die there. Exactly as he would have if he had not just terrified Frodo as he had. A hero in every sense of the word.

I 100% agree - and honestly, I think I went through the same process of realisation. It feels like this is something I've only really come to appreciate as I've gotten older.
When I first found and read LotR, all I saw was a suspicious villain who just wanted the journey to fail, and he was my least favourite character in the books because of it. But then I realised over time and experience that everything he did, he did for love of his family, his home and his people, and he was grappling with an otherworldly force that virtually no one could resist. Who wouldn't be overwhelmed when faced with an absolute power like that?
You're right, it's that moment right after Frodo flees that we see the true humanity in him, the honour and the valour that his people loved him for. If we were in his position, would we have done any better, or been any stronger? I don't think I would :D he absolutely is a hero. Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts, and for watching!

The character I have always been fascinated with is the Mouth of Sauron, is he ancient or was he born in the late third age and what possibly happened to him after the defeat of Sauron. Could he have been the new threat in the fourth age or was it someone else.

This is true, we know almost nothing about the Mouth of Sauron except that he was a Black Numenorean (I think?). Which might mean he was born in the Second Age, but I'd have to do some digging around on that. We still don't know if he survived the battle at the Black Gate, so his rising again in the Fourth Age is definitely a possibility. And totally a really good video idea. I'm writing this down! :D
