    Repairman Private Siefer journal entry #1:
    So we had some fresh blood show up to the 94th squadron today and he is already proving to be a major pain in my ass! This new guy Ross seems like an amicable sort, met with the rest of the squadron at the mess while I was out getting his bird unboxed and ready for his first sortie. Didn't have a chance to meet him personally myself. After the sorry state he brought that Nieuport back in today I'm sure he didn't want me to meet him anyways. His log claims Archey got ahold of him but I've seen this kind of damage before. Fool botched the landing slammed his ailerons into the field. I'll do my best to patch this old girl up but parts aren't easy to come by so I hope he wont make a habit out of this.

    In flight school, they taught us never to trust feeling, as that is a quick way to crash. Use instruments. When the Army Air Corps selected aviators, they looked for folks who could just that. Your Nieuport does seem to lack much in the way of instruments. Also, it looks unpleasant to fly. Looks bouncy in level flight. Sort of like flying through a strong crosswind. Can't say I would like to go to war in one of them. I suspect the designers didn't put the craft through testing, before production.

    • @Wolfpack345
      @Wolfpack345  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I just feel like having a sense of motion would really help in clouds. This thing has nothing in terms of helpful instruments haha besides a compass and an altimeter. I would not want to go up in this kite either. It's kind of a hunk of junk and apparently everyone at the time knew it. As a matter of fact I don't fancy going up in any of these aircraft.

      @@Wolfpack345 the only reliable feeling for flight is eyesight. Your sense of direction gets totally obviated by the fact that accelerations can point in weird directions for long periods of time in a plane. Flying vfr into ifr is a very common way to crash and die.

    when flying into the clouds, without visual cues, pilots can confuse their senses and still get lost. This is why they teach instrument flying in the first place. Ive definitely lost friends to this effect in modern aircraft. spatial awareness in flight should be based on sight and instruments, not what the inner ear accelerometer tells you since it can be tricked.

    I need some proper headtracking and flight practice before I relaunch Rise of Flight. My first mission ended with me diving too fast and being unable to pull out. The second try I don't know yet what I did wrong but I wound up in a descending spiral to the left I could not recover from. The game is way more in depth than the last WW1 title I played, Flying Corps Gold.

    Did some research on the Neuport 28, the plane was meant to be a replacement for the SPAD 7, but during trials, pilots found that the light airframe caused issues with stability and flight control.
    Some pilots have also reported engine problems, one notable problem was during combat, the engine would stall and quit.
    Some squadrons would nicknamed the plane "fabric pinebox".

    Just saw this now and wanted to correct one thing you said in the video regarding flying in clouds. As a pilot in real life I say that flying in clouds is imposssible without instruments - you can NOT "feel" whats up or down. Excpected life-span is 2 minutes without external Visual references.

    • @Wolfpack345
      @Wolfpack345  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      What I mean is you would be able to tell if your aircraft is pitching up or down. You would be able to maintain a somewhat level flight until you got out of the clouds. In game it's impossible to tell if you are maintaining level Flight while In a cloud. I agree that you wouldn't be able to really make serious manuvers.

    • @peterjp4
      @peterjp4 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually, Donald Dox is 100% correct. The forces you feel while flying blind does nothing to assist with orientation. In fact, those feelings can be quite deceiving. Trusting those feelings and ignoring the instruments gets pilots killed far too often.
      On a side note, a half-filled water bottle could serve as a way to stay wings level.
      I love your videos. Keep it up!
