    Best potting medium for pink princesses is a chunky aroids mix. Which means lots of perlite, bark, lecca, worm castings and charcoal and just a bit of soil.

    Beautiful plants!! One thing...the peanuts don't help with drainage, they make it worse. What they do is raise the perched water table. Water will only run out of soil once it's completely saturated to the max. Think of the soil as a sponge stuck in a drinking glass(the pot) on top of a layer of marbles (the peanuts). Now add water. The water won't enter the marbles until the sponge has reached its full max capacity. By raising the perched water table you're only giving the roots less soil to grow in. If those roots reach that air chamber below they could potentially rot (even more so of the it doesn't have a drainage hole). All that being said, it's best just to use a pot that fits your plant. 😊

      In loooove with your pink princess. So, what did you do with the peanuts? =-o

    • @kathleenmurphy2379
      @kathleenmurphy2379 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It all depends on what kind of peanuts do you use don't use the kind that dissolve in water but there's still a big controversy going on between putting peanuts at the bottom or rocks at the bottom lots of people say do that even professionals other professionals they don't do it. I had an orchid grower who I met and befriended who came to our yearly Spring Garden Show here in Hagerstown Maryland. She would bring some of her orchids along with the pot she made to plant orchids in they were handmade pots and some other beautiful handmade items fur boots. She actually added those peanuts to her Orchid potting mix the orchids love them I also take them and crush them up and put them in the potting soil they act like perlite and help to loosen the soil and keep it from getting compacted and they absorb a little bit of moisture almost all of my plants I'll put a few peanuts at the bottom especially bigger plants it keeps their feet from getting wet in the saucer so if water drains out of the pot into the saucer the bottom layer of soil does not get overwatered and get soggy if you don't get a chance to dump the water out of the saucer. The professional gardener on the radio station I listen to all the time and the 90s on Sundays while I worked around the house suggested using peanuts especially in big pots on a patio number one if you feel that huge pot up with soil it's too heavy and that pink princess could be pretty happy with a lot of potting soil and moisture in it. On your patio those big pots The Roots only go down about 12in and maybe the pots 20in deep that's all wasted potting soil and still didn't get to be a soggy mess because there's no roots down there to dry it out. He suggested putting things in the bottom he suggested putting Styrofoam peanuts he suggested old water bottles you could put down in the bottom anything to take up room that would allow drainage out the bottom because the roots don't need all that soil. I have never ever ever ever had a problem in the past 20-30 years putting those styrofoam squiggles in the bottom of my bigger pots and even in the bottom of my little pots should leave some drainage at the bottom so when the water drains out the bottom and I don't have time to dip the saucer and get the excess water out the plants don't rot but to each person their own maybe it works out for me because of my watering practices or because of my party mix who does there's no right or wrong way with plants there's just the way that works for you

    Please don't use the peanuts: they don't help with drainage. I use a coffee filter spread out over the bottom/hole and just put the soil over that to keep the soil in. You can also use a THIN layer of sphagnum moss (not peat moss.)

    Cactus soil isn't always the best to plant a plant in even Cactus for succulents. The professional grower Maria of Maria's Garden down in Punta Gorda Florida were you really need well-draining potting soil because of the weather and all the rain is specially for succulents and Cactus and desert roses never uses Miracle-Gro Cactus mix she says it's the worst stuff in the world. She makes her own mix like I said it one of the other comments go to her station she can tell you why. She earns her living growing her own succulents from cuttings.

    I felt in love with this beauty two weeks ago when I first saw a picture on pinterest. I was pretty lucky, bought mine today on ebay in my hometown around the corner. 😱 they are so rare and hard to find in germany. I'm so excited haha. I hope she will grow well, she's so small and fragile. She got a few small groots. Woud be very frustrating if it fails:( any tips? Mine is in a glass of water, she needs to form more roots.
    Greetings from Germany 🤗

    I just watched Planterina's newest video....she philodendron a pink princess philodendron do Florida with her in a suitcase all cut up! They cut it up into a million pieces 2 propagate. Not really a million but a whole big bunch. Apparently she is planning on selling online string of hearts String of Pearls Hoyas monsteras and some other plants. I love your pink philodendron after seeing what they did to hers could you just cut me a section of yours off and I'll buy it maybe two sections that's like everywhere there's a leaf no just two of them just kidding! I've been subscribed to your station for a while and I enjoy watching your videos I love love love your pink princess it's on my wish list along with a Thai constellation and a variegated monstera. By the way I've just started a TH-cam station but I couldn't figure out on my cell phone how to change my name to something to do with plants so it's just Kathleen Murphy so I'm inviting you to join my station or Channel and return the favor! If you put the word orchids for coleus when you search my name on the TH-cam search engine you'll find me. I have over 30 orchids that I just started collecting since November. That is an addition to my hundred or more house plans my five gardenia trees my three monstera plants and two huge split leaf philodendron plants. Maybe a dozen different alocasia and colocasia plants... Elephant ears. I have a lot more videos to post and would appreciate you coming to check me out click like good surprise. Click subscribe button... I used the microphone on my cell phone keyboard so it said surprise instead of subscribe teehee! It's too hard to go back and correct sometimes but sometimes I don't find my mistakes. And leave me a comment so I know you've been there take care of my plant friend love your videos keep them coming. Wait till you see my orchids I can't believe but I've been so successful after I've killed them through the years. And now that I've learned the secret you can't water them like the water house plants with a little watering can they're easy to take care of. Where can you find a plant for about $15 or so that you buy it when it's blooming at the beginning of December and here it is almost the middle of July and it still has 20 flowers on it huge beautiful flowers. Mine does on my video It's called my favorite orchid check it out a couple Orchid people said they've never seen an orchid like it.

    My potting soil mix is Miracle Grow potting soil or the generic brand at Lowe's and I use half and half the peat moss Lowe's has in a bag that also has some fertilizer added I mixed that up about half and half maybe a little bit more potting soil because it will drain pretty quickly. But my secret ingredient is soil moist. They are crystals that absorb 50 times their weight in water. They hold the water and suspension until the roots needed. It's different than the polymers in Pampers that polymer is gooey and sticks together and I do not buy the Miracle Grow potting soil with because it's it's not like the soil moist crystals it the soil just holds too much moisture I don't know why but that stuff stinks. But the soil moist crystals no matter how much you would press them together they don't stick to each other they keep their little Jaggi shape with all kinds of different little angles. I guess jaggie shape comes from growing up in Pittsburgh where we call Thorns Jaggers teehee. Because these crystals don't stick together and the expansion and contraction of the crystals also helps to loosen the soil and keep it from getting compact besides having the water there waiting for the plant to need it without making the soil soggy. The polymer and Pampers sticks together and a gooey mess because if the Pamper got a hole in it who'd want little chunks falling out. So the polymer and soil moist keeps its shape. And it lasts for five years in the soil. I also put it in the ground whenever I plant my flowers my annuals or perennials because it helps loosen the soil there and also helps keep water from flowing away from the plants Roots but they won't be able to reach. If you use more the next year in a pot outside on your porch and you get a heavy rain if might look like you're growing clear chunks of Jell-O in your pot along with your plant. But you can just take those little chunks of little crystals and put them in another pot or leave them alone because you almost can't over water when you use those crystals except if you don't have a hole for the water to drain out but they can't absorb! I like coleus if you go to my channel Kathleen Murphy and add the word coleus you will see my coleus collection. Maybe a hundred coleus from just a couple pair coleus plant save from the winter. I grow the coleus cuttings in water then put them into soil it has a soil moist crystals in and the coleus absolutely are in heaven. They don't like to dry out and those crystals give them their wish a constant source of water. Which means you don't have to water things once or twice a day in the heat of the summer. You can also add some pine bark to your soil mix especially if it's fine pine bark it helps with drainage and a lot of Growers are adding it to their soil mix. If you go to the TH-cam channel Maria's Garden Maria runs a commercial succulent Nursery. She grows all the plants for sale as a volunteer to to help her down in Florida. She demonstrates on many of her videos how to create a good potting soil for individual types of plants

      Fallulah Fallulah maybe it’s different genetics. Or difference in environment. In my experience with other plants, light levels have a huge impact on leaf color. The leaves I have are very dark. But there is some green. You can see green on a leaf at 4:45.

    *How to care for a Pink Princess Philodendron?*
    The best part? This plant is relatively low-maintenance and easily grown indoors, they like well-drained soil and some humidity. Allow the top inch of soil to completely dry out between drinks, and make sure it gets plenty of bright, indirect sunlight. But keep in mind these plants can be toxic to animals if eaten.
    *How do you make the Pink Princess Philodendron more pink?*
    To get the most colour out of your growing Pink Princess, ensure it gets plenty of indirect light - too much direct light and the leaves will yellow. You can expect young leaves on this plant to emerge as a dark green with white variegation, maturing to almost-black with pink spots.

      maybish water propagation works super! I had it sits near the window with filtered light. Sun light is crucial to prevent rot and it thrived . at the beginning I mist the leaves every day to ensure it wast dying . it took 2.5 months to grow good healthy roots. I’ve just potted it and it the leaves are still very firm. You can find me 👉🏼 @tsuzysplants

      We got ours from Lyman Greenhouse. There was only one at the time. Also they don’t sell plants online. This plant is hard to find. I haven’t seen it elsewhere. Hope you can find one soon.
