I worked for a company in Salford who handled the majority of the recruitment for Manchester United support staff, in 2020 they were looking for a new software developer to redo their entire scouting system, the whole thing was built on an antiquated system that needed completely modernising. 3-4 solid dev or 1-2 brilliant dev job, minimum, to create a system that would be up to scratch... They wanted 1 person, at below market value to redo the entire thing.
It was at that point, after many other cases, I realised what Manchester United fans are talking about when they talk about "Everything behind the scenes". If they're skimping costs on something that essential to a scout doing their job, how much are they skimping on the actual scouting?

My guess is that this was happening because the entire club structure was falling apart ( like the roof at OT ) because of the money being sucked out to the Glazers or to service the debt

When he was boss at Everton, Moyes created a bunker-style room at the club’s Finch Farm training ground packed with technology and information on players.
The detailed research and knowledge enabled Moyes to build clear pictures of the kind of target he was chasing and who would be monitored ready for serious consideration in the future.
It is understood that when he arrived at United, his predecessor Sir Alex Ferguson’s system and research wasn’t as detailed and the key information was allegedly in chief scout Jim Lawlor’s head rather than an easily accessible database for the backroom staff.

Mark Coldfridge thinks sacking Ole after just 4 months into the season based on results was justified but ETH has gone 8 months with bad results and we have lost 11 games in 27 in the league. Why do you think Ten Hag is justified in keeping his job? Ole finished 2nd and 3rd and we were regularly beating cit eh under Ole, we had a record 29 games unbeaten run away from home under Ole and Ten Hag is lucky to put 3 consecutive wins together. Under Ten Hag how many times can you recall United putting 4 or 5 goals past their opponents? We are hanging on under ETH and that is not good enough. All this give Ten Hag time boils my urine. Ole made a couple of references to Ferguson in the interview which suggested Ferguson is heavily influential at the club still, even complaining when Ole dropped Ronaldo. Ferguson pulling strings behind the scenes without any accountability is toxic and once again, he’s sitting next to Ratcliff in the stands giving his two cents. Ratcliff should ask Ferguson what he’s done to help the club in the last ten years before getting his advice on the future. He needs to be cold shouldered by the club because his ego won’t let him back off on his own and the truth is that he’s out of touch and hindering more than helping progression at the club.

Not a MU fan, and only follow my Team, but its been pretty easy to see for a long time, that there is something seriously wrong in what is happening deep in the club, with the decision makers, and if players don't feel comfortable with what is happening, they will be bad, but many players are really weak mentally too, as soon as they get pressed to a certain point they just give up, like in the Man city match. The team started wasting time and had already given up when they started the 2nd half.

Football has evolved from the management and coaching styles of former greats such as Alex ferguson, Arsene wenger and including the likes of Mourinho. Its more nuanced now. Managers dictating the finest details in a match today. The earlier days when a manager would just tell the players to go out and enjoy or express themselves are gone. Now we have the peps, alonsos, artetas, who dictate and fine tune every aspect of their teams at every minute. Solskjaer belongs to the ferguson era. Bypassed. But still a likeable human being.

Firstly, Im not a United fan. That being said, it is always sad to see glory fade out to rubbish. I have said this for a long time about United, it is a structual problem within the club, it's not a problem with managers. When a club goes through manager after manager in such a short time, and nothing changes, it's a deeper underlying problem. And what's worse, I believe when these things goes on for too long, as it has in United, it becomes not only a structual problem but also a club cultural problem - like a mentality problem or a problem rooted deep down in the subconsciousness of the entire club. And that is MUCH harder to change. Lastly, Haaland. What a pitty for United. As good as he is in City, their playing style simply don't get the best out of Haaland, who thrives in counter attacking styles of play. In City, who spend most of their time around the oppositions box, there is no room for Haaland. He just sits put surrounded by complete defences. In United or Liverpool on the other hand, he would have had much more room to make his runs like he did in BVB, and also would get more involved in the games.

I think you are wrong Mark...
    1. Ole was the right manager for man-u, very unfair for you to say he was out of his depth. Results went against him, and he even admits, he was unable to motivate players....listen again. Look at your culture, look at the teams Ole was competing against, he needed time to build.
    2. About Maguire, listen to that interview again, whatever happened to him in Greece affected him, and he's never come back from it. Man-u spending 80M on a defender? It was because he was good enough.
    3. Ole did demand the respect of the dressing room, he would never have stayed for 18 months, or pull/convince the likes of Varane to sign if he didn't.
    4. On Ten Hag, guy is not good enough...let me explain, the blue print for success starts with responsibility, especially with the manager. ETH has been dilusional, hasn't got any identity, is clueless, and always has someone to blame...ooohhh, the ref, oohhhh, we didn't convert our chances, ooohhhh, we had lots of chances....and makes you think, what chances is he talking about?? Ole said in the interview "no player came to the club that I didn't want." Now the the Haaland stuff... It's my understanding that Haaland wanted in his contract a certain amount of minutes in the 1st team for the club he signed with and you can't make those sorts of demands at big football clubs. And Haaland might not have been the same player he is today had he went to United instead of the journey Haaland went on. That journey took him to Dortmund and they are a team that coaches young talent and turns them into world beaters. Dembele, Bellingham, Sancho, Pulisic, Aubameyang, Haaland, and they were all players bought by Dortmund for peanuts, and sold them all for 50+ million.

What I don't get is critizising Ole. I don't support Utd, but Ole is the best manager post AF, isn't he? If he'd been able to get Haaland you would have been close to City or better, since they wouldn't have had him. Two things Ole did wrong; Playing Fred and getting Ronaldo in.

My take on the Ole "interview" is that Ole felt Managing United shouldve been easier. Ole fails to acknowledge he made mistakes or take any accountability for the teams failings. He intimates scouts made his life difficult (but he never signed a player he didnt want) He cant comprehend how Gen Z players didnt want to be leaders or give 100% for the jersey. He talks about Ronaldo & trys to blame him for drop off in performances (without ever giving any real reasons for such) he even mentions Sir Alex would be unhappy if he benched Ronaldo. He alludes to Utd not being able to press as high with Ronaldo (previous yr had James, Lingard, Pereira ... he sold, loaned all them out & bought in Sancho with Ronaldo) .... whether you like it or not managing all the above issues are literally the job description !!!
Recruiting is a mess yes, but managing & motivating players & setting up the team to get maximum benefit of your star ST are a Managers KPIs ... Ole in his mind is a victim, its embarrassing

Why the fuck does Ferguson still get a say, he quit 12 years ago. How is the club ever meant to properly move on and stand on its own 2 feet when it has Palpatine lurking in the shadows giving his two cents.

So you're telling me that the players decided FOR THEMSELVES whether to play for this manager or not? They took a look at his CV and decided he's not the man for the job? Ridiculous! I don't care if United brought in Ronald McDonald as manager, YOU PLAY FOR YOUR MANAGER. Players downing tools for such ridiculous reasons cant be held against a manager.
