If a contract comes to the end and is unexpectedly not renewed, it's emotionally equivalent to a sacking. I suspect presenter orientated ageism is the main drive.
He was well past his sell by date, and he basically sounded bored and phoned in his commentaries for about ten years or so. He had a good innings and earned a good living. Shame his shocking lack of self awareness prevented him from moving on gracefully.
I never met anyone that liked Lawro as a commentator pundit when he was on MOTD but suddenly he calls out the 'wokes' and every gammon in the country pretends he was brilliant. Do people ever think it might be due to the fact he retired 30+ years ago and just mightn't have that much insight into the dynamics or tactics of a modern team anymore? No, it was definitely the wokes!
Just to clarify as some people have already said you are only required to have a TV licence by Law if you watch live TV on any channel as its been broadcast including BBC iplayer. If you watch TV on demand for example on Netflix, Amazon or any other streaming service that you basically go through a library of programs to watch and gives you the ability to choose a time to play a program at your convenience then you do not require a TV licence by Law. Also you are not legally required by Law to respond to any letters from TV licencing, it is your choice to reply out of courtesy. If anyone from TV licencing pays you a visit at your door then you are not obligated to speak to them or answer their questions, it is your choice. You can simply say No thank you I'm not interested and shut the door, or not answer at all.
All no doubt true. It becomes a question of whether you want a BBC. No adverts and some integrity to what it does. I do as degeneration is so much easier than re-generation. It's cheap publicity to just keep pushing at the barriers of decency like say Piers Morgan has done - along with much more of our media. In fact when news is scarce they feed off themselves. At the moment its photo manipulation by HRH Princess of Wales. Photos have been "manipulated" since its invention. What is posing and one's best side otherwise all about. We haven't got to the smoke & mirrors yet. And who has done more to alter photos than the very media now kicking up all the fuss. They have spoiled Cate's hobby as she convalesces, in such a spiteful and opportunistic way to behave.
I can see how the wording on their letters actually scares people there’ll be some kind of legal prosecution, those letters can be horrible. But, you’re absolutely correct. More people should take note.
@@RichardHodgson-wb9lk Absolutely, the way TV licencing use wording in their letters is clearly to cause fear and stress to the person receiving them. It's totally unacceptable that the BBC are allowed to continually send threatening letters out to the same address every month with the intention of getting the addresse to pay out of fear for something they don't want or don't need.
Its also illegal to do what the TV Licensing do, threatening court action like they constantly do. But because the BBC is the mouth piece of the Government they are allowed to get away with unlawful conduct like this. Its illegal to send threats of court action in this manner unless there is actual intent to do so. TV Licensing do it as a matter of course, and constantly, with their default letters which begin "we believe you may be watching" (e.t.c), then cycle through automatically to "we will prosecute", and finally "we are sending someone round and will prosecute". Then it begins all again from the start. There is absolutely NO REASON why this State enforced channel is a legal requirement, other than without forcing everyone to pay for it the Government know they would become irrelevant and no one would be listening to their constant lies, brainwashing and social conditioning agendas. The Bullshit Broadcasting Corporation could be an encrypted pay to view service just like every other one of its "competitors" is. But its for the reasons above that's why it isnt. I DONT WANT THE CRAPPY BBC! Nor will I pay for it either. I had TV license once.. just the once, for one year. Dont want it. Not paying. Never will. @jason I'm fairly sure they closed the loop hole you talked about, about not watching live tv. Fairly sure they made it illegal to watch even via stream some time ago. (but there IS another loop hole... although not useful to most people works for me)
I agree. The BBC are a Labour supporting company. The Conservatives had an 80 seat majority and I voted for them to do two simple things. Defund the BBC and stop the boats. They had no intention of doing either.
The people coming into the BBC are from a different era, the days when things were done right but tough are gone, the new people have only known the world a certain way and pander to all kinds of nonsense. A wake up call may come when their soft easy life ends.
Its because the top 4 people who run the bbc are tory donors.. Not that i think labour would change anything for the better but the facts are those who run the bbc are Conservatives. Anti religion also.

You're trying to turn and stir this up into a race thing when it isn't, he told us why he was sacked. The big clue was the one year short term contracts. Having a TV License is literally paying for your own brainwashing. Government agenda woke conditioning channel. Its like paying to have a lying corrupt politician in your living room 24/7. Without it they couldnt brainwash the population to believe their lies. Why else are the BBC the ONLY mandated tv service in the UK?! Encrypt the BBC, like every other TV service, so its only visible to those that opt to pay for it. Government would lose their hold and manipulation of the public, hence why they force you to have it with threats of court, fines and imprisonment. Fearmongering liars.
Correct, but if you watch Black Belt Barrister, you will learn that the BBC demands you to have a licence if you watch LIVE broadcast channels of ANY ilk. The barrister believes that no court of law would uphold that, however.

You don't need a TV licence just for having a TV, it's a common misunderstanding, you need a licence if you watch what a channel is showing at that time, you can watch catchup TV, TH-cam etc.
The presenter is wrong about the TV licence. It used to be the case that if you owned a TV you had to pay the licence. Now, you only have to pay the licence if you watch or record broadcasts in real time or watch the BBC iPlayer. If all you do is watch on demand services such as Netflix or Amazon Prime, or catch-up services like ITV or C4 (but not BBC) then you don't have to pay the licence. This is becoming an issue for the BBC as more and more people are cancelling their licences and going forward that's going to increase as even more people become less inclined to cough up almost £160 a year for a licence, the cost of which is about to increase to almost £170 from 1st April, ironically April Fool's Day.
Meanwhile I'm watching quality British TV on the BBC and you're watching Amazon Prime and Netflix, largely American crap. As for ITV!!! God help us if that's all people are watching, the dumbed-down nation we're soon going to become.

As someone living in the USA, not having a public broadcaster to provide news services has been the biggest social disaster, the effects of which can be seen in how politically illiterate the populace is. As flawed as the BBC is, the alternative - a world without a strong publicly funded broadcaster - is infinitely worse. Don't believe me? Spend 5 minutes watching American cable news shows.
And adverts in the middle of sports events. When they are on air, they don;t talk about what is happening the majority of the time. The INdycar coverage is a perfect example. Yes, agree - USA TV is hopeless
Live in the US also and the news media here is horrendously bad. Main evening news on the networks like NBC, CBS etc all just headline reporting - maybe 15 to 20 seconds on most items with no depth to any of the stories and then you have the biased content from the cable news companies like FOX/CNN. The news on BBC America on a different level. If it's gone downhill it's still way ahead of the domestic US offerings. Then you go to the website and you see the range of content there, plus all they put out on radio. You appreciate it when you see the alternatives.
Probably the most sensible comment here. During the mid-80’s on my first trip to the USA I was appalled at the parlous state of broadcasting over there and came home with a renewed respect for the importance of the BBC. Subsequent trips confirmed that perspective and, although the BBC has its challenges, it is still comparative gold. You don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone.
Lineker is grossly over-paid for his yearly 25 hours of presenting MOTD. Equally, many of his co-presenters are a waste of space and tax-payers money. He wasn't sacked in the manner of being handed his P45 and being shown the door, but it's arguably constructive dismissal in how the telephone conversation went - "you don't want to do this, do you", as opposed to being asked whether he'd be up for going on the road week in week out at 65 years old. He was effectively being asked to sack himself.

They’re busy trying to cover over the fact they’re a peodophile ring
No, no it’s not.
It's been there a long time, Martin, we just didn't notice before.
And we pay license fees for what.

What have you achieved? When have you ever been a sport's star or invited to be on TV because people want to hear you talk on anything?

There was inaccuracy about TV license. Just simply owning a TV doesn’t mean you need one. It’s if you’re a watching live programmed TV or iplayer etc. if you just watch Netflix you don’t need one and can just tell them and stop paying.
They’ll then pester you intermittently every few years with letters about whether you need one.
People are basically intimidated into having one and they make out just having a TV means you need one.

I only ever complained to the BBC once in my life.... and it was about Mark Lawranson.
At the beginning of the season on football focus, he made his prediction for the winners of the prem.......by the end of that season another team won ... but he claimed he had predicted the winners at the beginning of the season. I know it's a bit pedantic but I hate dishonesty. I was glad to see the back of the smug miserable ba**ard

The one that gets me is match of the day (Mens) started adding females cuz of equality, MeToo, diversity and wokeness which is fine and correct but then the women's match of the day equivalent which follows the men's version is then just all female commentators and pundits with the odd male guest and you just go yeah just one way only then is it. I can't watch Football Focus anymore, it's complete garbage. Trouble is they've all gone the same way. I think BT Sport might be even worse.
BBC do it with everything though. They must have a form they fill in for every programme they make, drama, sit-coms, sport, reality shows, soaps etc. It stands out a country mile. Are people picked on talent anymore ??
As for Mark, we all run our course. I was happy to retire to be honest, get to do what I want everyday.

Everybody has a sell by date unfortunately.
And lawrenson’s was at least a decade before they dropped him.

Alan Hansen saw the writing on the wall and left on his own term. Mark should have done the same but these guys need the pay check.

Bitter and twisted. I wish Lawrenson would show some respect to his former long-term employers. If he hates the BBC so much, why did he work for them for decades?
Poor show Lawro.

I don't believe you.
The BBC should be re-classified as a political campaigning organisation.
Be careful what you wish for mate - there is a little word PROPAGANDA, that you should research when you have the time 🙂
Probably the most sensible comment here.
He is old as heck...pass the baton on gracefully
Lineker is grossly over-paid for his yearly 25 hours of presenting MOTD. Equally, many of his co-presenters are a waste of space and tax-payers money. These cling-ons add very little to the show while collecting large appearance cheques. The after match interviews and analysis are mostly pointless time wasting additions to the programmes.
You're missed, mate.
I wish you and your family the best, and I thank you for educating and amusing me for all those years.

It's a sad day to see ex-players not being able to move with the times.
"The world has changed", he said it himself.
Effectively sacked ..you can't sack someone under contact under unless they have breached the contact

Women's sport and women commentators, what a joke. It's ruined sport on t.v. I watched a woman's football match the other day , thats 90 minutes I'll never get back . What a diabolical insult to the beautiful game.
His analysis was outdated, if it was ever in date to start with, and he never seemed to be enjoying his job or football in general anyway. The BBC tried to let him down gently, but I can't imagine anyone was sorry to see him go. Certainly the viewers haven't missed him.
Sacked because he was 65 and shite.

"we know you won't want to come." What a shitty way to say. I had exactly the same thing when my contract at work ended 14 months ago. Either give someone the option or not. Don't tell them what they want.
The thing is, putting it in quotes increases the likelihood that people will not research what was REALLY said. In this video, you have assumed that Lawrensen was told exactly that. The BBC does not have time to refute this allegation, but if it is not entirely true, and a paraphrased exaggeration (or worse), it is borderline slander.
But if you had such a kick in the teeth, you have my sympathy. Termination is never enjoyable, but when it is dressed-up, it is a painful insult.
