Do you want to know how to make the most incredible model river with amazing white water effects? Follow my step-by-step tutorial and you'll be making a hyper-realistic river in the time it takes to say 'I get cool rewards because I support High Eye Workshop on Patreon!'
For this diorama I employed my standard materials of 2-part epoxy resin for the river and Mod Podge for the ripples, but I added crystal clear polymer caulking thinned with isopropyl alcohol to sculpt larger rapids and then highlighted these with Vallejo Ground Texture 'Snow' paste and Vallejo Ice/Snow, which is a very thick and fast-drying acrylic.
These combine to make amazing water effects, but as usual I wanted even more realism, so just as in Making a Scene Vol 3 'How to make and AMAZING model river' I also modelled the river bed with stones, boulders, moss and other materials.
This diorama tutorial also covers making a weeping willow tree, using a wire armature tree as seen in my video 'The ULTIMATE wire tree'. I also demonstrate my use of the Hot Wire Foam Factory Hot Knife, and how I apply Sculptamold, static grass and layered ground cover, including Woodland Scenics Fine Turf and Coarse Turf.
Primarily, though, it's about modelling ultra-real water effects.
This diorama took about 11 hours to build. The white water probably took 4 of those.

@@HighEyeWorkshop Haha. I ended up waiting until the video was over. It was like that great book that you just couldn't put down. The results of your work are so amazing! Jawdropping, in fact. It's something that I'll have to work up to. Not due to lack of skill. I'm sure I can crush a project like this, now that I know how it is done, thanks to you. But I see there are a lot of products that go into such a beautifully realistic creation. None of which I already have at home. So I'll have to build up my arsenal after lots of researching and price comparing. Thank you so very much for sharing. One of the finest dioramas Ive ever seen. This video is really really good. You can learn a lot of techniques and learn about a lot of products and what you can do with them. I guess the 48 thumbs down were a result of jealousy. Peace

Watched this entire video with my mouth open, drooling a bit onto my notepad. This is the best choreographed and edited lesson on TH-cam, bar none. If anyone has difficulties with painting oceans (esp Atlantic Ocean that changes on a blink) and seas and beaches, this video has incredible instructions on color and form and even lighting (with the glossy resin mix). So impressed, will watch again and again as a master class. As somebody who has had to make all kinds of landscapes/debris-scapes etc over the decades I have to say this is one of the very best and deeply nuanced builds I've ever seen (and, as they say, I've seen a lotI). Beautiful work. I am now dealing with making a miniature alien-ish jungle that has to "behave" in reaction to high winds and lashing rains (jangling leaves, vines etc), that has to hold together for quite a while under a lot of physical, mini-storm torture without disintegrating (or at least with minimal disintegration). It has to work in moderate forced perspective...I sure look forward to the continued work on this...and find your detail, patience and acute visual skills a real inspiration (Also confirms that I am not the one lone landscape "nut" around). Thank you for your extraordinary posting.

Hey Merrick. Terrific work. This is the greatest hobby ever. Here's an idea I just tried and it works. After the resin pour hardened, I used gloss medium on top of the resin along the river's edge. Then my grass applicator. It looks like grass growing [IN] the water. I lightly added leaves to look like other plant growth in the water too. Cheers everyone !
