Ok, testimonial time. This is the best install video on TH-cam at this time for this install. I have a 2016 MB E350 sport (four door). While not every part of this install applies to my car, this was a great walkthrough to get the unit installed. For anyone with a car like mine, drawback number one, no usb port to install audio. I’ve tried videos on engineering mode, doesn’t work in this car. The workaround is Bluetooth audio. I set up my car play wireless and when I get in my car it connects to Bluetooth where music streams and I can make calls, I still have CarPlay on screen that can control the audio and take the calls but no usb for audio connection available in my car. Also getting the main radio back in the car is very tight. Had to press down on the cables to get a good fitment but there is still room for improvement. Enough feed back on this and I can make a short to show the finished product.
Really enjoyed this video very well explained. When I pick up my E350 I’m getting this kit.

It's just ok. I just started to watch this.. I'm only 1 min in this video.. and on this first minute it already lacks vital information. He says, release two clips.. ok I think, but how? Does one press it in (inside)? Pull it out (towards you)? Move it/press it left (sideways)? Move it/press it right (sideways)? Outwards on both sides? Inside on both sides? The problem is, specially if you are doing this alone, then you can brake something if you don't know before hand how to do this.
He spend some time to describe the obvious as you have to remove this panel.. the important part is how it is done precisely.
Ok.. I'm on the next minute and he fails to mention before hand the two clips right sides in the "glove box", he even try's to release the front panel or try to ply it off, but then figure out at last it's wrong method and correct himself by pointing out these two clips and indeed do describe very well how to release them.
At third minute he could easily mention how the first two clips work in the middle when when the front panel is off.

bro..... this is an awesome example of experienced installer.... just pay the man... do you really wanna lose a weekend to this project? hell no... this was the equivalent to brain surgery.... ;) my stomach was aching as I was the panels are coming off...
yes, there are a lot of steps, particularly because higher end luxury cars go through great pains to secure the vehicles, but there was nothing complicated. If you're not used to working on cars, I guess it can be intimidating, but like most things, with practice comes familiarity, confidence, and efficiency.

I recently got a new iPhone 13 and now I always have problems connecting to CarPlay and always have to hold the command button and reset the system to get music and Siri to work. It worked flawlessly with my iPhone 8. I tried factory resetting and forgetting the Bluetooth and no changes. Any recommendations?
So this unit can connect wirelessly wifi or wired. So with wired I guess the only benefit is it’s also charging ok.

Ever have a scenario where you get this fully installed & holding down the back button just makes the factory screen unresponsive? That's happening to mine. If I hold the back button down again the same factory screen becomes responsive again.
This happened to me. I solved the problem by double checking that the "toggles" on the back of the CarPlay unit were set to the correct spec. First I had it set for a 5.8" screen, but my screen is actually 7". Then I tried to set it for 7" and it still didn't work, because I made an error putting in the correct toggle sequence. Third time was a charm!

Since CarPlay is running through Aux am I able to listen to the radio while in CarPlay mode or do I have to switch back to the radio if I want to listen to radio stations
let me guess... radio remains active regardlessly of the Audio screen being displayed...but perhaps not if AUX input is for videos 🤔

Assuming you need to navigate to AUX port to activate Carplay, FM radio should be automatically disabled unless the device itself has FM radio function within

@@glasser2819 Dies it mean that although so many wiring is used, you have to use AUX via MMI interface to make it working? No way to connect module with Comand directly?
Another disadvantage is that you lose a standard AUX connection at all for connecting any other device.

My '14 has a big media plug in the center console next to a USB that may accept the more simple USB module extension?? (right now I am dealing with issues of engine MED17.7 computer discharging AGM Batt while driving..., so I am not looking for additional problems)

I have a 2016. My car doesn’t have an aux. audio only connects via Bluetooth. I tested the usb in the center console and it only charges my device, it doesn’t stream audio. How can I get the sound to work on my model? Any insight?

@@RF3seeker according to the dealership near me (worst people to ask) the US version of this car can’t activate the internal AUX. I’m still looking for someone that can access engineering mode in my car so I can check for myself. The way it is right now isn’t the worst thing in the world when the CarPlay connects before the Bluetooth, but I personally don’t like to do extra steps when I get in my car, so I won’t rest till it works the way it’s supposed to.
@Patrick Roland thanks for the quick reply! I'm really interested in a '16 E400 for the price and the body style is really sharp. I suppose adding Android Auto for simplifying navigation on the go is a want not a need it's a small issue but one I am dissatisfied with in my current '15 RDX.
@@RF3seeker knowing what I know now, try to get into engineering mode before installing the CarPlay android auto device. The CarPlay is highly used for navigation and it’s worth it for that alone. The car is a dream. Make sure you get a 4matic, it drives better even if you don’t get snow where you are. It’s expensive to fill up the tank, but it last a long time. And if you can, make sure your car has the adaptive headlights, it’s crazy expensive to add them on at a later time

Great video, but way too much work for CarPlay.
Everything about the video is great except for the AUX routing. You do NOT need to remove the center console and plug in the aux cord. You can enable internal AUX through the engineering mode in comand. This information is backed up by hours of research on mbworld. Your videos is false on that part. All you need to do is enable internal aux. no aux cord routing needed.
I installed in my 2014 E350 convertible. When i engage the reverse, the camera comes on for a second and the unit clicks off. When i engage system in audio to AUX the system clicks off. When i dial on the car phone it works, but no audio via speakers. ANY Suggestions or guidance of what to do to address these situations? I have the entire car apart still. ALSO radio doesn't play sound either.
"Internal AUX" menu option togled ON... Where do you plug in then to route through to head display & sound????
Please include instructions on this so I can figure it out cause I am trying to avoid the have to run a cable to the aux.

You don’t have rout the AUX cable to the center council. Just use the cars original Bluetooth 👍🏻. Audio quality is great since I am still using the original Bluetooth and I could still play music and answer phone calls from car play 😁
Can you please explain what happens if you want to use voice directions when using google maps with the car play and listen to FM from the car's receiver? Do both audio feeds mix or one of them will be missing?
@@speedermarto I think one of them will be missing but I am not sure as the voice directions is always off on my navigation cause I don’t like it.
Bluetooth sound quality is substantially worse than wired. If you're going to the trouble, give yourself the best audio quality you can

Sorry if my question is kinda dumb, but the way you do it is by having the phone connected to the Android Auto/Carplay module via Wifi but still have the normal Bluetooth connection between car and phone, did I get that right? Do the skip-track-buttons in the middle work this way? Do the phone controls work on the steering wheel work? Does the phone output the Google Maps instructions via BT>Car stereo, too?

Hi, is it possible to use the existing microphone system in the Mercedes when making voice calls over bluetooth audio using the apple play car kit? or is it necessary to use the mic that comes with this kit?
I think the company updated the kit since this video was filmed. Mine did not come with a mic at all and siri/calls/etc all work just fine with the Mercedes mic
