      That's what killed me about the insistence some people have about this version of Michael not being true to the original.
      _John Carpenter_ himself told Rob Zombie he should make his own version of Michael, not just rehash the character.
      People saying "I don't like this version" makes sense. People saying "it isn't true to the character" are being pretentious midwits.

    I don't know if you mentioned it, Laurie's boss was played by Howard Hesseman best known for playing Dr. Johnny Fever on the old sitcom WKRP in Cincinnati. Hesseman also did another sitcom called Head of the Class and played Capt. Pete Lassard in Police Academy 2.

    The first 15 mins of this movie (the hospital scene) is the best directing/filmmaking Rob Zombie's ever done and some of the BEST Halloween footage ever put to film. And as someone who personally survived a murder attempt I can say that this film, for ALL its flaws (which it has a ton) is GREATLY UNDER APPRECATED for the REALISITIC POTRAYL OF PTSD. The girl who plays Laurie gives the most realistic and perfect performance of someone who's haunted by PTSD and what it does to you + what surviving something like that can do to you.

    Why do people have such a hard time with someone surviving a gunshot wound to the head? It's happened many, many times.
    Wenceslao Moguel was an 18 year old kid who got shot nine times in the chest, in addition to one point blank in the head, by professional soldiers. He crawled into the Mexican desert and lived another 61 years. It's not the most outlandish thing to happen even in just that movie.

    The ending in the theatrical cut is different and way better, in my opinion. In that one, he doesn't unmask himself or speak. He gets sniped by police through a window and falls and gets impaled by a rake. Laurie then stabs him in the face and chest with his own knife multiple times. She then walks out with Michael's mask on her head.

    She's not a ghost. She's Michael's imagination. She doesn't have "her" personality, she has the personality Michael imagines she would. "Young Michael" is how he sees himself, still a child. Together, w/ Angel, they're the family Michael wanted since he was institutionalized. Danny Trejo's character told him he had to learn to live inside his mind. He did.

    I remember seeing a reading of the film that Michael died at the end of the first movie and everything we see of him is Laurie's dreams and hallucinations, and she was actually the one killing people. The events of the first movie triggered a psychotic break. iirc Zombie wanted Laurie to be the killer in this movie but the studio wanted brand name recognition, so it could have easily been a stealth way to get what he wanted if that was intended.

    • @tyslaseelo
      @tyslaseelo ปีที่แล้ว

    This is hands down my favorite Halloween film. I loved how different it is from the other films. It was so interesting seeing Laurie’s psychology and how the aftermath of Michael’s rampage affected her and the whole town of Haddonfield. I feel like how Laurie was (especially in the directors cut) is very realistic to how someone with PTSD from that would cope with it. I think this film is criminally underrated and the best Halloween film.

On the other side, Michael Myers is basically a hobo who hardly wears the mask and yells "DIE!" Of all the things Michael could possibly say, he expresses the one thing we all already knew about him.

    The new Blumhouse trilogy people (Blum, Green, Curtis) acted like 1. They were the first to “switch up the formula,” 2. They were the first to depict Haddonfield as a cesspool of bad behavior that helped influence evil, 3. They were the first to show survivor trauma.
    Halloween in general is less repetitive than many other slasher franchises (Friday, Scream), and quite frankly RZ did all of those things, whether the fanbase likes it or not lol

    Dr. Loomis is NOT like Gale. Gale is a true journalist with a first hand eye witness account. Dr. Loomis was Michael's Doctor and is somewhat responsible/culpable for what happened. He was in some way responsible for Michael.

    • @ethancharles2189
      @ethancharles2189 ปีที่แล้ว

      @s_g_101 Dr. Loomis was Michael's psychologist. He thought he failed michael and thus failed the victims of Michael. Michael's lack of rehabilitation was always the crux in loomis' character. Dr. Loomis sought redemption for what he perceived as his failure with Michael.
      This version was unpopular with fans because Loomis profited off his failures which resulted in deaths of others.
      Gale on the other hand was a first hand survivor to everything. She even actually saved an innocent man from prison with true journalism.

    Love this movie. Rob Zombie was definitely not forced to do this one. He initially passed but they were going to continue without him, and he decided that if the story was going to continue, he wanted to do it after all. Especially once they said RZ could do whatever he wanted with it. Also, the fact that he gave Danielle Harris the respect she deserved was amazing. The overall unrated version of H2 is better, but the theatrical cut's ending makes more sense. It leads to the same point, but instead of Laurie getting shot, she instead puts on Michael's mask, indicating she's losing it. Also, Michael does not talk. The reason that Michael kills the two "random" people at the neighboring farm party is that Michael is trying to make Laurie feel as isolated as possible. It's thematic to the rest of the movie with linking them together through Laurie's madness, and he wants her to be alone, like him. So, he got rid of one friend as he was heading to the house. Then got rid of the other friend and Annie. There was no "teleporting," though. I always just figured the two "farms" were pretty close. Also, he did not "teleport" up to the bathroom to get Annie. He got the officer and while she was getting ready, he came through the second bathroom door. Anyway, the hate that this movie gets is lingering from when it first it came out and how people felt about RZ's unrated version of Halloween. I think the theatrical cut of H1 and this movie are actually very good.

    52:43 Yes. This Michael Myers teleports. There is a reason for that. Michael wasn't... Michael in every scene. At least some of those Michaels, maybe even all of them (I find that one a bit weird, though) were, in fact, Laurie.
    As a funny aside, the joke than Danielle Harris can't be killed by Michael Myers may be true, because it might have been Laurie that did it. The party kills were almost definitely Laurie. The strip club ones are the ones I find most difficult to pin as Laurie.
    This is a weird entry in the series. It's kind of psuedo-philosophical and pretentious, but some of the things make more sense than they appear, and I appreciate it for what it is.

    Earlier I posted that after the hospital, everything goes downhill!
    I did forgot about Weird Al's most appropriate cameo ever! I appologise. But now thing are clear. Al is the key to all of this because we've never had a character this symbolic of parody before
    It's actually quite clever. Zombie doesn't give a shit about making this movie. We know he was pushed into it.
    So why not turn it in to a Fuck you parody. A 'Weird' joke. Who is the king of weird, parody, joke songs? Mr. Yankovich!!
    Brilliant. Just brilliant. Zombie shows us what the movie could have been. If he followed the hospital setting of the original sequal. Rob proves he still knows what he's doing and if he wanted to, he could have made a well liked sequel.
    Instead he pulls the rug from below, trolls us with the oldest trick in the book and then takes every character you liked from the first part and turns them all, into completely unlikeable pricks, except Annie and Sheriff Bracket.
    You have to have someone you care about, or you will turn the movie off, or stop paying attention.
    Tbc
    P.S. Zombie also casts an actress, who actually went crazy and makes her, the sanest one in the movie. Lol
    If that is not a troll, then what is??

    This being the Director’s Cut the ending is everyone died. What you see in the end is Laurie’s dying thought. I only know that because I watched the movie with Rob Zombie’s commentary where he had to explain it to me. He also says about how Michael survived the first movie “Laurie misses or it grazed him or whatever.”
    I think the theatrical cut has a better ending. It presents Laurie as less messed up and more likable but ultimately falls into the Darkness of her family ties. Michael has a better death, Loomis has a better death. Laurie lives but is driven insane.
    Again I stand by the family ties is bad and always held the franchise back. But Rob did the best with it in my opinion

    • @jacquelinecallejas1390

      "Laurie misses or it grazed him or whatever." That is how little the director thought things through? I don't hate this movie or the first part, but this quote leaves me feeling Rob wasn't taking this a seriously as I would hope.

      @@jacquelinecallejas1390 Yeah, I was surprised how he would just say things like that out loud. I mean, I was fine with Michael coming back because I just filled in that she missed. But it’s still wild how fed up he was with the movie by the time he recorded the commentary. But he has been on record to say that working under the Weinsteins was a pain in the ass and zapped all the fun out of making the movies.

    • @SoundPainterStudio
      @SoundPainterStudio ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MarcusC68 Not really. It was going to get made anyway with him or without. He only took over because he didn't want someone else directing his remake. You should really be blaming the Weinstein Brothers that a sequel had gotten made and that better Alternate Ending in Rob's first movie got replaced. Call that ego if you want, but would you really want someone else writing and directing a remake you came up with and had a passion in doing? Also, excuse me when I say this. This isn't John Carpenter's Michael Myers, this is a Remake that had the will to be different while still attempting to make the character a force not to be reckoned with. Sorry I had to tell you the obvious. I actually like that this story chose to be deep, it's just not for you. Now if this was John Carpenter's version of the character, then I'd have issues. And "Ends" was the worst case of that if something "different" were the case for the character. I'll watch Rob Zombie's Halloween II over a more feminine Michael Myers any day of the year.
      Edit: Rob's Halloween II is one of my favorites, while I prefer the ideas of the original. I love that Rob did something different with his own take with the story despite the conditions he had to work with in order to make these films. And if you don't like what I had to say, please give me something to talk about rather than a short and non-sensical response that's more oriented around a cliched hate-train I've already heard about some celebrity a thousand times.

    IS it just me or was Laurie SUPER annoying in this movie?? You'd think after nearly being killed by Michael she'd be traumatized but it didn't make much sense for her to start fanboying over Charles Manson (you know.... another serial killer) and having his picture on her fucking wall and shit. You'd think she'd want to stay away from that kind of stuff.

      Trauma can take many forms. Some people hyperfixate on things similar or related to their trauma. Others avoid such things.
      Also, there's the fact that Laurie is implied to be the actual killer in this movie.
