  • MotoMan has waited over 18 months to drive the 992 generation of the Porsche 911 with a manual transmission! That day has finally arrived, so MotoMan puts aside his manual transmission bias for a scientific approach in evaluating this 2020 Porsche 911 Carrera S with a 7 speed manual transmission both on the road as well as in a round of our famous #OptionsGame . . .

    Thanks for the great review of an awesome car. Huge kudos to Porsche for continuing to build driver’s cars for people who still love to shift their own gears. This is definitely the car I would pick when I spec my next 911.

    Sad that the non-S Carrera isn't available with a manual. It'd be the lightest, most streetable and most affordable 992. Instead, as I know Porsche they'll offer the manual Carrera as a stripped-down Carrera T that you pay up for (due to included options), not less. =/

  • @obi-wankenobi7160

    Great review as always, though your request for a gt3 touring targa is a bit ridiculous IMO, the targa top adds a whole bunch of weight at the worst place(top) and would cause it to not be worthy of a GT badge bc of its driving dynamics. The spring rates and dampers would have to be extremely stiff to try and keep all that weight in check which would cause it to have a overly rough ride, the targa is cool enough on its own but it would be cool if they offered a performance package that included that glorious 4.0L NA flat 6

    Waking up on a Saturday morning with a MotoMan review of a manual 992, life is awesome!
    How does the engine and exhaust sound IRL? I have a 2015 Boxster GTS and I’m afraid if I upgrade to a 992, although it’ll be a faster car, it won’t sound as good. Your thoughts? Glad to see that you’re recovering well, and in style!

    Great Review! Prefer the Targa or regular coupe over the Cabrio but still glad that the manual transmission is still available at a time when most European sportscars don't offer them at all. While PDK is an impressive piece of engineering this is definitely the current sweet spot of the range. Very much approve of your idea for GT3 targa!

    Anyway, back to 911, that smile is just what the doctor ordered, kudos to Zuffenhausen for making it happen. 👍
    M, if money is no object & Porsche said No, would you transplant a GT3 hardware (engine, suspension, the whole works) into a Targa? Like the McChip & Ares cars?

      To me, the 992 feels like one, cohesive piece over an AMG GT C. Someone else asked about the 718 Spyder against this . . . I don't have an answer. Both are great but very different. Sadly, my decision may come down to the fact that the 718 Spyder will have better resale value . . .

      MotoManTV I just drove a 992 (base, PDK). I was completely disappointed. It felt bland, soul less, and rather cheap inside, compared to an AMG GT C. I couldn’t believe the difference in driving feel, enjoyment, and engagement when I got back into the GT C. Oh and the obscured dials in the 992 is just inexcusable.

    @porschepierre3254 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Re: GT3 Targa - Not quite a GT3 but when the GTS come out it most likely will have the Targa option as it did with the 991. My pref though would be a non-GTS with the powerkit, which seems to become available when ever a GTS is introduced. Yes, a more expensive way to get the extra oomph but i am not a fan of the boy racer visuals of the GTS's. But at a purported 480hp with a manual - nice! (just opining here.)

    • @MotoManTV
      @MotoManTV  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      GTS is a good option from a value perspective. Me, I would do the silver Targa bar and delete all the GTS badging.

    • @porschepierre3254
      @porschepierre3254 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Exactly! (real targa's have silver bars!) Still too much blacked out detailing on the gts. I like the stealth idea of optioning the non gts with the powerkit and other choice options - i know, a costly way to do it but at theses price its
      ridiculous vs a little more ridiculous!

    what color can u choose on roof other than black if you have any ideas give some

    • @MotoManTV
      @MotoManTV  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Really depends on the exterior and interior colors as well as the specific car. For example, a two seat, two door convertible generally looks great with a Red/tan interior/tan top, Green, Tan Interior, Tan Top. But when you get into something this large, it becomes a bit more difficult. Porsche does offer some tops colors that are *very* close to the exterior colors. For example, they do a blue top that comes very close to Gentian blue - same with the darker red. Other ideas:
      - Gentian Blue/Red top/two tone interior that has some Red to pick up the top. Must have a contrast stitch.
      - Midnight Blue/Dark Saddle Roof/Dark Saddle interior with the contrast stitch.

  • @masteringzero
    @masteringzero 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I would take a manual Targa 2 with the 4.0 from the Boxster/Cayman. No turbo, sufficient hp for the street, and not as loud as a GT3 engine on longer journeys.
    Btw I have a few gripes with the 992, why are the BMW (M5) and Mercedes (E63) able to switch the 4wd to 2wd on demand, and a sports car brand like Porsche is not able to do the same with the 4 models? 2nd the 911 interior always had a Bauhaus type design philosophy, less is more. They should have made the interior infotainment system like the Audi TT and R8 with one screen behind the steering wheel and optional headup display.

    20 years ago, a Porsche 911 with an automatic was a laughable thought. Today we have to fight for the manuals. I don´t care about the last three tenth of a second acceleration. I want to be in control, I want to mudulate RPMs at launch to my will, ride the clutch if I chose to, let it slip and grip to kick out the back, all the wonderful things you can only do with a manual. And yes, at the end of the day any automatic is made primarily for lazy people who can´t drive. Which unfortunately make up 80% of all sports car buyers, or even more. I had to get this of my chest.
