VLOG: I did the 4 X 4 X 48 David Goggins Challenge!

  • Follow along for 48 hours as I tackle the 4 x 4 x 48 David Goggins challenge, where you run 4 miles every 4 hours, for 2 straight days. Aside from the fact that you cover 48 miles in 48 hours, the sleep deprivation and nutrition plan components made this whole experience something I'll never forget. Hope you enjoy this and can apply my tips for when you give it a go! Stay hard!

    I'm a HUGE fan of this challenge, the sleep deprivation was definitely the hardest part for me. It felt SO good to cross that finish line though. Way to crush it 💪

    Good Ol David Goggins convincing
    us to do things that suck! I did this challenge last year. I opted to go with no sleep because I didn’t want that hangover feel from only a little sleep. Awesome Job! Keep killing it!

    Just found your channel! I have watched lots of TRE videos and I really loved your tips.

    Oh, BTW, first months with a newborn baby feels like this challenge, with the difference that with a baby you cannot see the end of sleep deprivation 😁

    I used to live in Hermosa Beach. Good Stuff Restaurant was super tasty & you can watch people playing volleyball most of the year.

    Way to go Holly & Kenzi! What an insane challenge! I will do it! I also want to do a Backyard Ultra 100 mile challenge run (24 x 4.167 miles). The backyard ultra is a form of ultramarathon race where competitors must consecutively run the distance of 6706 meters (4.167 miles) in less than one hour. When each lap is completed, the remaining time within the hour is typically used to recover for the next hour's race.

      Thank you for watching!! I actually picked this particular part of SoCal specifically for the route. The strand from hermosa to manhattan beach is one of my top 3 places (so far) to run in the world no question!

      Not too fast haha! We stayed around 9 1/2 - 10 min miles. We were slower at night. And you saw at the last mile my friend took off and dragged me! It was awesome.

    Great Job ladies -- guess I was still thinking the "48" was the number of hours so you would need to do 13 runs / 52 miles to start the last run 48 hours from the initial -- Personally I was going to plan to try 7 runs to start the last run 24 hours from the first -- Thank You for all the inspiration

    I did a few of those runs with a buddy who told me Friday afternoon that he was doing it. Question for you. You show your self slipping the shoes on. Those are not the laces that came with the shoes, are they elastic? Why do you choose those over regular laces?

      That's cool you did part of the challenge! These are actually the laces that came with the Hokas! I'm just lazy with the tie/untie so maybe they looked elastic lol.

    Can you share a link to the balls you're using to roll out? They look like a really good size. I usually use a lacrosse ball, but it's quite small to use on quads and hammies.

    How long did it take to run each session (Average time maybe)? It takes me about 50 minutes to run 4 miles. I'm concerned that would deteriorate as the runs went on and it would just become a continuous ultra for me at one point.

      Hey John! Great question. Secretly, I think that's David Goggins' point of the challenge. As it gets worse/tougher conditions, can you prevail and make it work? It took us about 40 minutes per run. Once we had a sleep/eating strategy locked in, we didn't notice our time changing too much so that was good.

    As a coach I advised people against this .. .first, just because someone creates a "challenge" does not mean it is an actual challenge ... or something you should do ... this simply is not good for you and lots of other things are a better challenge ... I'm thinking run a 5k and eat a pound of bacon.

      Good question! These were actually sold to me as a hybrid shoe that can do either/or. I just love the feel and fit of them and know I've never had an issue in them on any surface. For this type of challenge, I wanted to give myself the best shot!

    Sleep depravation is one thing you need to educate yourself about. Read the book "Why we sleep: The New Science of Sleep and Dreams by Matthew Walker"

    Sounds a tiny bit like Relay Iowa. We run 339 miles across Iowa over the course of 3 days and 2 nights. The difference is we don't stay in hotels. We sleep on the ground, minimal showers and clothes changing. You are also running alone (mostly).

    I do NOT understand this type of outrageous challenge.............it is not safe/healthy for the average person. If you are trying to prove you are tough enough...........I would ask who are you actually trying to prove what too whom? yourself????

      @Trex Me why not add some water boarding in!! So in just the attempt is the brave part?? I do not idolize GOGGINS like many do. I find him obnoxious and redundant. He was bullied, he was fat, he was poor!!
      Now he swears and screams at people and profits.
      AND DON'T FORGET to POST the challenge on social media !!
      Attempting to run/sleep/run is NOT all that impressive anyway!!
      EVERYONE gets a trophy!!

      @Trex Me I am glad you found humor in my comments. I did not mean anything hurtful. I just think people need to dig deeper into themselves mentally and spiritually. The will find their own self worth and character and then exceed accordingly. I feel many of these challenge takers have low self image and can find peace and comfort by doing such. Being able to do these things are only a small piece of puzzle.
