I have a kasa smart plug with energy monitoring, I bought it so I could make a automation: when I turn the TV on (when the watts go up) - turn the LED STRIP on. But I couldn't make it using IFTTT, how do I do that?
I'm currently using numerous Kasa products including several smart outdoor plugs and like them all much better than other products I've used. And they are very simple to setup. However, I'd be happier if these outdoor plugs were also available with a 90 degree plug so they would fit in a weatherproof covered outlet.
I've been using their stuff for about 3 years or so now. I've had their cable modem. Their smart bulbs are very good also. I've had one in my kitchen table lamp and it's very reliable on the timer. I have three of this cam, the bigger smart outlet as well. Oh and I did get the outdoor outlets last year for outdoor holiday lights. Overall they .and a very good product at a good price. In the beginning there were a few issues with the bulb but it's been solid for a couple years now. Like you said it's compatible with Google Home and Echo. I use voice commands offen with the bulb these days with being home more. Overall you can't go wrong. No hub required is great. It makes Smartthings seem a little old.
I just installed a Kasa switch, was easy to do and Kasa app works well on my iPhone. How do I get the voice command to work "turn on outdoor lights" for example?
I have kasa smart switches for my exterior lights, set up was easy through the app. I have them set to turn on at sunset and off at sunrise. They're also connected to Alexa but with dusk to dawn setup they just work and I don't have to think about them, which is what automation should be about. These replaced 1980s vintage 'smart' switches that worked off an RF timer box, not nearly as reliable as wifi and bled voltage through so LED lighting would flicker when off.
I have a bunch of the plugs. Downside to them is they don't include a USB socket like the teckin plugs do. Which would be good for non phone USB powered devices.
Hey Brett. First of all I wanted thank you for all of your videos. I'm new to the online TH-cam stuff but your videos have assisted me with automating the majority of my house. I trust your recommendations and I appreciate you continuing to test different products. If possible are you able to make a video regarding automating lights, switches and outdoor speaker options for hosting parties for the outside of the house. I have 8 outdoor lights that I would like to automate but I'm not sure if I need to buy 8 different smart bulbs or change 3 switches? I would also like to incorporate a wireless smart speak their outdoors near the pool. I'm just curious on your suggestions. Thanks again! You've been super helpful and I look forward to all of your new upcoming videos.
Nice video Brett, I love TpLink kasa, I have 2 light switches and 2 power outlets, I would love to test the bulb, the power strip and the in wall outlet
I Love using KASA, but I just got a Terms and Policy Notice ...after using it for over a year....why is that?. Don't have time to read it, just letting "all" companies know...should your fine print mention anything that I feel surpesses me...I will take action (umbrella statement), and you will not like it. I have all kinds of stuff hooked up to my Kasa outlet plugs..ie My water heater circulator is on a Kasa Plug, so 10 minutes before I take a shower I turn the kasa plug on (using my phone or tablet), then using the timer function (that is super cool) I set the plug (water circ) to shut off after 8 minutes, just incase I get distracted and forget to turn off the "hot water circulator". I can also set the Kasa plug to turn on everyday at a certain time....I just love that...KASA Rocks !!
Hi Tech with Brett, good video I have a question I saw that you cast the TP Link camera to the tv and I have nest camera but can't cast them to my tv or Chromecast, before it was no problem to cast them.
Great review! Here in Brazil, we have a brand called Positivo Casa Inteligente which have similar products, at lower prices than other brands. Unfortunately, even though the prices are lower than others, they still are very high and off reality for most of us. But I love seeing your videos, makes me want all these products LOL But, I'm a little bit confused with the usage of the Wifi lamp: does the switch have to be on all the time? If it does, how could I turn it on by the switch, like, if it's already in the "on" position?
They do work perfectly, but as you mentionned they use wifi. It means that EACH unit is a separate wifi connection. Thus if you dint have a very capable router as well as a very good internet, just forget it. It addsup very fast. I do have about 20 lamps, plugs, etc witth tp link, and it takes a high loadon my wifi traffic even though I have a good router and 120 Mbps internet. So if you have a smLl appartment its ok, but with a big house, be sure to have reliable wifi and internet, otherwise they will not work properly.
That is a good point. I already have 52 devices on my network so I think I will run out of room sometime. As of right now everything seems to be working well and a good router is certainly recommended.

Yes and yes. Both of them are really great option. I use a ton of Google products and services already so that is what I have chosen. Alexa also has great features and a ton of devices. What kind of services do you currently pay for or products do you already have? Just pick a side and stick with it.
@@TechWithBrett Thanks! I have more Google products but saw that routines with Alexa look easier.. but definitely will stick with Google. Keep up with the awesome videos!
@@TechWithBrett Brett, this link is not the right video. I'm talking about the video, you made, when you were talking about the *NEW RECENTLY* Nest Aware plans. Where you pay $120.00 a year for unlimited devices? Did you delete that video?
Hello Bud, is the camera performance better than the Wyze cam?. When I ask Google hub to display Wyze cam lts so painfully slow. I wonder of this is faster to display
Great questions. The overall camera quality looks better on the Kasa Cam and has smooth video with 30fps, Wyze only has 15fps. I have had the same with Wyze and the Nest Hub, the Kasa Cam performed way faster for viewing live video. But those are the only 2 benefits I see so far. Wyze excels in pretty much all other areas with local storage, recording 100% of the time (Kasa is only notifications and cloud storage) and just overall settings and features available.
@@TechWithBrett I've bought a Lenovo Door/Window contact sensor that has a reasonable (for wifi only) 5 second delay. I can make an Alexa Routine, but I'm unable to make it work yet. I live in Australia.
Is it inside her window? If so it can't hear very good through windows. If it is outside, you would need to be pretty close to it for it to pick you up clearly.
Beware of TP-Link products. If the product fails within the warranty period you will be required to pay for shipping the defective item to them before they will send a replacement.
I have 6 Kasa lights in my bathroom; They look great when they work. Just be prepared for Google to always tell you that "Sorry, n number of devices are currently unavailable"
There is so much to cover I forgot to cover their cost, check the description to see current pricing. What Kasa Smart devices could you use?
The kasa devices available in Peru. but first I need money and survive the COVID-19

I have 2 of the smart plugs. One for my electric kettle and the other for a lamp. Works great and the audible click is surprisingly satisfying.

Just purchased the outdoor plug for our car block heaters. Perfect for setting up on and off schedules to save money on hydro.

Great coverage of the Kasa smart home devices. I have over 50 smart devices in my home but now plan to add several of these.
Your house is going to be smarter than mine.
I still don’t have a smart home
What software do you use for editing and what device do you edit on? It would be really useful thanks

Can the kasa outdoor plug dim lights through the app?
I wouldn't say I like to connect to wifi directly. Is there any HUB or bridge that supports these switches?
I plan to use them with home assistant
@@Moonchilling I think you still need to connect to kasa app using wifi and link that account to Hone assistant.

It would be great if they had sensors to pair with these devices. Can you do a video on Wi-Fi sensors (door/window and motion) that don't need a hub.
