Nice video Shane! The outlet extender looks pretty cool. It’s odd that not all the outlets are smart, but it’s probably not typical that you would need so many at one location.
like the review shane. I have several TP-Link smart switches and dimmers, kitchen, bedrooms lights and fans, a motion sensor switch in the master closet, and my big win was teh motion sensor dimmer in the laundry room. all working well with alexa. could have used this a few years ago, but not sure where i'd put it now.
Nice video review of the Tapo products, I’d also like to see a review of the Tapo video doorbell with keypad, it doesn’t appear to be retrofit which is the type that I would need. Is the Aqara 200 door lock available yet? Will you be reviewing it? Thanks
Thanks for the feedback! I believe people who backed the kickstarter for the Aqara U200 have received theirs, but the product is not for sale officially yet. I am planning to make a video about it. I have been testing it for a while.
That thing where the speed of the dimmer turn sets the ramp rate for brighten/dim is pretty cool (and different). I usually find these things too twitchy to make small adjustments. That's a pretty neat solution.
@ShaneCreates will the Physical Dimmable Switch Button will work with any Dimmable Matter Enabled 💡 brands combined and grouped in Apple HomeKit? A combined group of OREiN, LIFX, and Linkind 💡’s
About a month ago, I got some of their matter indoor smart plugs. Things were going well, and I needed to replace some outdoor smart plugs so I ordered a few of those. Yesterday, they arrived. But my Wi-Fi went totally off the rails around 10AM (I wasn't doing anything unusual). Like someone was jamming my wi-fi. I spent 8 hours trying to get it to calm down, reset my router & satellites, removed any device I added over the past few weeks, tried a few different wi-fi settings, nothing made it better, some things made it worse. I finally pulled out the last of the TP Link indoor plugs - all of which had gone offline as well, and after that, my network started to mostly return to normal (we're talking over 70 devices). Hmm. I later tried to reset one of those and add it back, and the network went bonkers again. Since I got things stable again, I added one of the outdoor plugs this morning. I don't use that circuit often but it's not messing me up (yet). I also have one of their HK smart plugs which occasionally needs to be replugged to get it to connect again. I hesitate to blame that on them, it's in a challenging location for Wi-Fi signals. The outlet strip looks interesting. Very similar to the Gosund I have in my garage for years (not HK, but connected via homebridge) which has 3 switched outlets, 3 unswitched, and USB switched. I usually just tell the Echo Dot in the garage to charge each of my bikes (runs for 7 hours). Since the Gosund has been reliable, I probably won't replace it. I'm stuck with Tuya stuff anyway. I can see a use for that dimmer with a floor lamp in the living room, have to see if my wife would go for it first.
The outlook extender looks nice. Real shame it isn't Matter though as I'm working to rebuild my system from the ground up and with 100% matter devices if at all possible.
@@smarthomesolo9520 Slow :) I still have the old one running while building the new one and that probably says something. But part of what it days is I'm too lazy haha.
With so many products being smart now, I find it hard to find a use for smart plugs these days. I have 3 kasa plugs collecting dust Anyone have any interesting use cases?
I love all tapo devices my entire house is tapo tp link. The bad many automation are still basic compare to other companies, integration with Google is basic. (Alexa and Smarthing are better but not amazing). I still believe they are going the right way, but need to be more aggressive with compatibility with Google and many other things..
Your opinion about the US government talking about banning TP Link products because they can pose a security risk? The rest of the following taken from an online article: The main reason for suspicion, though, is the routers' firmware. It's outstandingly prone to vulnerabilities, ridden with things like buffer overflows, to the point that mere incompetence seems an insufficient explanation. This sounds like a conspiracy theory because the evidence is ambiguous. Line up the circumstantial evidence and it's at least plausible. If TP-Link does have a corporate fondness for crap coders, how come the features visible to owners in everyday use work well, while invisible vulnerabilities are so common? Chinese law compels all domestic companies to cooperate with state security in secret. There is already evidence of widespread Chinese infiltration of communication infrastructure with Salt Typhoon. Motive, opportunity, ability, and history: where does the balance of probabilities lie? It would be possible to prove TP-Link products were uniquely vulnerable by statistical analysis, comparing them to competitive products from other vendors. At that point, it doesn't really matter what the reason is, they could be taken off the market because of consumer safety worries. That wouldn't do much good, given the huge installed base, and the uniquely attractive environment infrastructure offers to the bad guys. It's invisible to end users, hard to monitor, hard to update, and once something's installed and working, it is highly disruptive to rip it out.
Tp link do last, it's just if they start to give up on the brand like they have with Kasa. I have a few Kasa products which is owned by TP Link. Makes trusting them long-term a problem as they may start to give up on the brand
@@KaizenStorm However, Kasa is still available, and Tapo APP also supports Kasa, which means that even if they don’t promote Kasa anymore, they will provide users with backup solutions.
Thanks for the video and would definitely like to see that door lock/bell video!
Thanks for the feedback!
Thanks for the demo.
I think I will give both new products a try.
Thanks for watching! Hope you enjoy!

I got the outlet extender and really like it. Been using it for a couple of months now.
Great to hear! Thanks for watching!
How is it going with the outlet extender still?
That outlet looks great. I wonder if you can handle an air conditioner. Looking to automate my air conditioner. Currently use it either outlet search

If you restrict internet access to these devices, are they still adjustable with the Tapo app?

I have the outlet extender, haven’t been able to get it to pair with the app but it at least works as a plug
TP link matter switches are solid. I have been running them for 1 year now without any issues
Glad to hear you've had a good experience with them. Thanks for sharing!
Can you use the dimmer kit with two Govee Floor Lamp 2?
No the dimmer kit is intended for regular lamps with dumb bulbs.

Yea it works quite well once I figured it out lol. I like it too.

No, the dimmer dial works only with the lamp plug that it comes with. It is intended to use with traditional (dumb) lamps to make them smart.
@@ShaneCreates Thanks!
Does the outlet extender have energy monitoring?
No

For this, the lamp should support dimmer feature. I have some lamps don't
If your bulbs support dimming, it should work.

Yep, sure have. And still do.
Seriously. Tp link and tapo do not last. Do not buy
I’ve got some old TP link stuff that is the most reliable stuff there is.
