    It would have been nice if you would have showed how the boat behaves when trim tabs are not used at all.
    For example a sideview drone shot of the boat getting on plane without trim tabs or engine trim.

    Soooo for anyone else that thinks the reversed buttons for the trim tabs is silly, hear me out. I lightly sanded the labels off, rotated the control box 180 and the re-labled where port is port, starboard is starboard, up is in the up position and down is in the down position. This is (imo) how it should come from the factory.
    Aside from that. Awesome video!

      What I did was mount the control switch as normal but swopped out the port with the starboard electrical connectors that connect to the tabs..
      This allows the starboard switch when pressing Down withe the starboard side listing to lift the starboard side to where it should be..
      I also included a seperate switch to control the on off function independent of the ignition function option..
      This allows is case of emergency to switch the tabs off & retracted faster than otherwise..
      Great Video enjoyed it ..

    Great video. Years ago I took some classes in S FL & the instructor told me NOT to touch the tabs until the boat was on plane. I agree w/ you Capt Mike about hole shot. Put the tabs down, then the throttle down & let her rip.

    A couple things the trim tabs work to help as well as the ones you’ve covered:
    1) keeping you in plane at lower speeds. My SeaHunt Gamefish 25 falls off plane in 20MPH zones. But I can put both tabs all the way down and stay in plane.
    2) and I think one most people don’t know, using the trim tabs to bring the transom up in chopping conditions. The trim tabs don’t actually bring the bow down, but rather they bring the transom up. So the bow gets a lower angle relative to the transom. In choppy conditions, you can use the trim tabs to get the transom higher in the water, thereby taking most of the chop in the “Deep V” of the hull towards the bow, rather than further back on the flatter part of the hull. This can be the different between bouncing in the chop and having to slow way down, and riding atop/cutting through the chop and keeping higher speeds comfortably.

      That 2nd point there is super beneficial and I just actually figured it out this summer on my 23' Tidewater CC. Very helpful in the Chesapeake Bay when you get a lot of little 1-2' chop in the bay or rivers on windy days.

    Just finished watching all 36 videos, all liked, subscribed and notifications clicked... outstanding content especially for someone like me who is getting closer to purchasing my first saltwater fishing boat. I've been watching TH-cam videos for months trying to learn about how a boat is built but none have given me the insight into construction and the hows and whys of selecting the components on the boat compared to this series. Super impressed with all the guys from Latitude, Kraken and Preferred. This has me thinking hard about having a semi-custom build project in my family's future especially considering the lack of high quality, reasonably priced options out there. Thanks Captain Mike!! Tight lines buddy...

    Thanks for all of the excellent content. I just started watching your videos and the tackle how-to segments have been excellent and easy to follow. Thanks for the hard work in putting these together and any boating segments would be welcome. It is always a good refresh or tip or two that everyone can benefit from.

I feel like I have a lot of information that I’m going to need when I’m out there on the water with my new boat. Thank you very much.

    Great video, I don't think you mentioned travel in the general direction of the swell, the swell can grab the stern of the vessel, (if the trim tabs are down) especially if you reduce the power quickly and are moving slower than the swell. I learned the hard way, knocked me off my feet.

    My 21 Outrage wanders at slow/idle speeds, by putting the tabs full down and the motor trim up it lessens the wander to almost nonexistent.

    I have a 26’ cabin cruiser. I’m somewhat new to trim tabs. At higher speeds (25ish) my boat seems to not be very responsive to turning Could the trim tabs be effecting my handling performance??

    • @babyboom6574
      @babyboom6574 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, at speed you want them up other than to take away the lean (which I just use one to bring the bow down on that side), I had this same problem when I first got my 28' CC. It would feel like I was sliding rather than turning when I left them down, not cool.

    If you want your boat to track stright at slow speeds or idle put them all the way down, if your going thru chop and trimming your motor down All the way isn’t enough put the trim tabs down it will be a much better ride

      Agree 100%
      I've owned several boats over the years. Never really experienced bow steer until I put my first set of trim tabs on my current boat (a deep V hull). Trim tabs take practice for sure, and knowing when you shouldn't use them is key.
      That said, ill never own a boat without them again.
      Great video as usual capt.

    Hi there ! Thanks for your technical guidance and savoir-affaire in boating issues. I have an Angler 22 with 2 x 250 HP VX series YAMAHA outbards. Quick question : Why is it so, that when I run the boat at mid power and press the trim button down, it clearly accelarates better...? I assume an electrical issue has to do, and if where shall I look to, in order to guarantee unstable electrical power to the spark plugs I pressume...?¡¡?

    Always retract your trim tabs at the end of the day to cover up the shaft so that marine growth doesn’t form and tear seals when operated next time

    • @ReelReports
      @ReelReports  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Depends on conditions, however generally speaking the bow up using the trim on the boat is good as you don't want to stuff the bow.

    I got a 17-18foot Nelson craft flats boat with a 150 2 stroke on it. Thing literally does a almost straight up wheelie you think trim tabs will fix that extravagant amount of bow rise and the boat also leans to the right when going 40mph

    • @ReelReports
      @ReelReports  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, tabs will help bring bow down.

    I have never used trim tabs. I am building a boat right now. I would like to know if the turbulence from the trim tabs interfere with the fish finder transducer. My current boat's transducer goes dead for a time when my boat is underway. It is really annoying. The depth just flashed and I have to stop to get it to clear out and come back on.

    How does the fuel economy change? Meaning if you run with one or both tabs down, more than just getting on plane

    • @ReelReports
      @ReelReports  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It really depends on the application and hull, but generally speaking by planing at Lower RPMS you can gain efficiency.

    No hardship to put the kill cord on. If you clip a wake and go overboard it’s not a nice end….
    So the question is, why don’t you clip it on? - it’s effortless, just like a seat belt or a motorbike helmet.
