  • After beads were first introduced to the Native Americans by the Europeans in the 16th century, they became a staple of Native American art.
Artist Les Berryhill tells the story of how the people of Native American tribes used these small glass beads to create beautiful, elaborate designs.
The Native American beadworkers exerted patience and precision to decorate clothing like moccasins, dresses, and gloves with vibrant colors.

I seen breads my grandfather dug up in ruins over a thousand years old. Small small, they must have had good eye sight.

@@kmarie42central New Mexico. I should have edited this old comment for clarification ! The ruins and artifacts mostly pottery shards and eaten corn cobs (and bones both human & animal) were all dated 900ad- 1100ad. I don't even understand how gramps could even have seen these little brown micro beads within shovels of brown dirt ! Crazy. The reason we happen to know the dates is some of my cousins who showed us where these ruins where and live near by them as children took some bones they found in to school for show & tell and the Indian authorities got word of it and seized the bones and took them to the University of NM and carbon dated them. This was in the late 60s early 70s HOWEVER to this very day you walk this place and you can still find artifacts on the surface of the ground. Just two summers ago we were walking the property where their old house used to be and found a human clavicle (collar bone) close to where they found complete skeletons when they were digging for house foundation repair.

@@eugeniotapia6765I’m glad the remains were recovered, hope that wasn’t too much hassle on your family. Property stuff is always complicated now.
