I agree with you. I have a shadow 2 modified with CGW, that I use in 3gun and 2gun and USPSA, but have been planning to purchase and mod a Shadow 2 compact this summer for IDPA and also the occasional concealed carry. I don't like to carry higher priced guns due to if you ever need to use it, it will probably be confiscated until the investigation is completed.
Always enjoying your videos man! It greatly helped me build up my rig for USPSA and I really love the 1911 videos too! Thank you for the hard work and sharing knowledge!
Thanks for the video! My buddy loaned me his S2 for a USPSA match. I have 10 matches under my belt and my usual gun was a Echelon. OMG what a big difference! I'm buying a S2 and your videos are helping know what modifications I might want.
Great video!...thank you. I own both heavy competition oriented handguns (92X, TS2...) and lightweight ones (G34)...recently I tend to favor my G34! I am an average shooter, but I tend to draw and get to the first shot faster with my lightweight Glock, transition faster especially between further apart targets and generally I feel much more confident manipulating the lighter gun, do mag changes etc.. In terms of weight modifications I must admit I have added a steel guide-rod to my Glock, that helps me stabilize it better for those longer precision shots. I would say that for me, the heavier guns do have a small advantage when pushing hard for fast doubles and when shooting on the move...walking forwards and especially backwards with my heavier guns I consistently get better results....
Heck yeah! Thanks for the CZ and Shadow content Paul! Great to see an expert's take on this issue. I really favor heavy guns as a noob; good to know a difference can even be noticed by experienced folks. I think how you described it was perfect; the heavier full size is "gentle" in comparison to the compact. It's not that S2C is snappy, but the full size S2 is so smooth it gives a gentle experience and dot tracking. The S2 really punches above it's price especially with a spring swap haven't found much better for the consistent and gentle dot tracking and recoil profile. I'm no expert of course, but I've fired double stack 1911s (VGW Priest, Fowler V9, LFA Apollo, and Playtpus), Beretta's, Canik Rival S, and others (need to try a Walther) plus a carry a p365 xl so have Sig experience; none of these are close to the recoil and dot experience of the full S2.
Your trigger looks like the Eeman tech Ultimate. How do you like it? I've been running a CGW old style 85 on one S2, and a CGW Flat SA trigger on another S2 for LO. I prefer the flat much more, and am looking for flatter DA/SA options now. Looking at the Eemann tech Ultimate vs their Flat DA/SA options.
I have a slightly larger reach and I prefer where my finger lands... especially pulling through DA on the Eeman. I did try out CGW's Flat-ish DA/SA trigger (on my 97s) and it does the job. Im picking out small and minor details here... but the Eeman is wider where as there is an increased amount of beveling on the edges of CGWs... for me... I feel a touch more confident pulling the Eeman and that has to do with more contact surface. But ill reiterate... tiny and not really impactful for actual performance other than mental.
I love my S2C and I your Good to Great video makes me love it that much more. At 2:22, what mag or mag extension are you using? Where can I pick it up?
That’s a stock (for full-size Shadow 2) 17rd mag with Henning Basepads and Rune Tactical Spring & Follower. 24+1 Capacity… but last round on this setup gets hung up on the Compact model sometimes
Would be great to see a video review from you about DPM recoil reduction system for Shadow2. Would appreciate your thoughts if it's worth tuning it for USPSA. I can picture a comparison side by side of: OEM internals + OEM Rod vs OEM internals + DPM recoil reduction VS Cajun PRO package + 11# recoil spring vs CGW package + DPM recoil reduction. Curious if there is any findings
I was at the range yesterday and I rented a staccato p out of curiosity. The gun is nearly 10 oz lighter than my Tanfoglio. I find my preference for prosciutto vs the brisket. Maybe it was the polymer grip? Or just a completely different animal? Not sure.
I have outside of this video. I actually used SuperVel 124 for both and kept the spring rates exactly the same in this video I did order a DPM and will be springing the ammo for that setup… assuming I like it.
@@TheGentlemanGunner what DPM set up are you going with for the S2C and do you think you will go away from 124s? I thought CZ were more set up for 124s for length issues but I know you ran 147s at one point as well.
@@TheGentlemanGunner really cool comparison in the context of competitive shooting. Please do the pdp compact steel vs the full size pdp match steel!! You're saving me moneyyyssssss!!!
@@LVbibby I’m not sure on the DPM setup yet. That stuff is trial and error… typically start at different ends of the spectrum to see what does what. Then begin to synthesize it to my liking. I’m actually going to make a video about “tuning” springs to ammo. I already have a different batch made specifically for IDPA CCP. In short… approx 114PF vs the 132PF that these SuperVel 124s hover around.
Doesn’t make sense. Lighter gun requires more durability in the grip and consistency. Heavier guns require less grip and strength in my experience in IPSC (A grade).

Analyzing it for 124gr vs 147gr is also interesting to see, since Eric Graufel competes with 124gr loads just to make it flatter

Applying physics the answer is heavier gun provided you are strong. Less felt recoil and more accuracy. If you are weaker then run a lighter gun
