Remove Mercedes W164 ML or GL Front Bumper

- In this video, I show you how to remove the front bumper from my ML63. This process will be very similar to other ML models, as well as the GL models.

First off, thank you for this. It helped R&Ring my customer’s bumper and fender today.
Just a note: The bumper alignment “sprockets” don’t need to be loosened. Actually, loosening them just makes more work.
The metal brackets on either side don’t need to be pried out. Just pull the bumper away from the fender and it’ll pop out easily.
Installation notes: make sure the belly pan is in proper position before bolting things down or reinstalling the metal brackets. Having a 2nd person to gently push the bumper towards the car is useful.
Noted! I had heard about this before, but for whatever reason the boxier 550/63 bumper cover isn't as pliable as that of the other ones, and I just went to remove more things and that worked 😂 It might be specific to the 63 as it has the add on flares on the bumper and fender, which stiffen up the side of the bumper significantly. I'm sure if I continued trying to do it the way you suggest it would've worked at some point.

I am having a hard time getting the metal clip you removed at 5:38 back on. Any suggestions on getting it to line back up?
If it is very difficult, of course check all of the other connection points first, and then try to silicone based lubricant spray to make the clip glide a bit more easily.

No but only because of the different headlights the facelift 2009+ MLs have. However, a 2006-2008 ML63 bumper will work, likely with different brackets though
To remove the bumper grills do have to take bumper off?

No. The grill comes off with 2 screws, 2 pop clips, and 3 (brittle) clips along the bottom of the grill that clip onto the bumper. Be gentle and it’ll come off easily.
what is the trick putting the clamps back on? I couldn't get mine and still have them off but I didn't bother removing the wheel cover fully. A few other videos did this but didn't explain well on putting back, if you still have and want more views, then make another video. many people need to remove front bumper to change parking sensors but want an easy way
The only way to put the clamps back on is just to slide them on with a good amount of force, a silicone spray/WD40 can help lubricate them. Doing this with more fender liner in the way would make this more difficult, the liner is only a few bolts so id just remove it. One may think they're saving time by removing less parts, however this may lead to struggling more with removing/installing other parts and taking more time unfortunately.
@@SamAbraham I found another video explaining it again for just putting back on but was for a different model but uses the same bracket concept I guess. The trick is a 45 degree angle but think still pretty tricky as I haven't tried yet but seen someone demonstrate it again with one hand without removing fender. I know first time spent over around 4 hours and total removing and putting back minus the brackets. I don't park in a garage and live on a street with a slope, so just wanted an easy way to do things like some other videos out there doing this very quickly but with music or little explanations and those get most of the views at first, so just giving you an idea if you want more views, include easy way to do as well. Also those plastic rivets need to remove middle first then outer part, not sure if you mentioned this, as I broke first 3 but was watching other videos. Many people don't know these things and just doing first time DIY from youtube. Also under the bumper, some screws missing and broken, just another video idea for you, as not everyone has car in mint condition but looking how to repair small things like this. Some other channels do this but on different cars but first place I would naturally check is w164.
