Richard, your observation about the dichotomy between Hobi's sunny expression and his gritty vocal tone caught my attention. That contrast translates to his artistic expression at large. One of the hallmarks of the music Hobi writes and produces is the juxtaposition between lyrics and melody--upbeat melody with gritty lyrics and gritty melody with upbeat lyrics. Hobi is a study in contrasts. 🌤

RE: only three members in "Jamais Vu" - you will find that with the BTS b-sides, they often break off into solos (everyone usually has a solo) and "sub-units" (some combination of fewer members). The members of those sub-units often/usually contribute to the writing of the song. Also, I realized something while watching your reaction about this song - I speak French fluently, but I had never heard of the phrase "jamais vu" except as a direct translation ("never seen"). So the idiomatic meaning was interesting to me. Then, you guys talked about how the chords keep changing - which infers musically the idiomatic meaning of the phrase - you experience something over and over but feel like it's new.

Don't know if they told you but the Boy With Luv MV was based off of Singing in the Rain. The MV was released on the same day Singing in the Rain released worldwide which was April 12th. RM's scene especially I believe was a homage to the film.

BTS is an iceberg. If you only want to.look at the pretty surface it's entertaining, but the deeper into lyrics you go the more overwhelmingly awe-inspiring. It is what made them my all time favourite music makers. Then you add their choreo and creative videos and performances. Their high production values. For me they give me everything I need.

For your copyright questions, things from the BangtanTV or HYBE channels are generally copyright claimed, but not copyright struck. The first Boy with Luv video that you watched wasn't from that channel - and in fact was from a show on a Korean broadcast station - so that's why the copyright is more risky. Also, live versions of BTS concert performances seem to usually "pass muster" but broadcast TV performances often don't (so Asian award shows, music shows like MCountdown, Inkigayo, things on KBS, SBS, MNET, MMA, MAMA, etc.).

J-Hope’s nickname Hobi 홉이 is basically just “Hope-ee” but sounds like “Ho-bee” 호비 because of how Korean pronunciation works (resyllabification). Attaching 이 “ie” to someone’s name can be used to indicate them as the subject of your sentence, or, in this case, used as an endearment. Easy way to remember- we’re just calling him Hope, in essence

54:50 - Before BTS, I was a Pentaholic, so in the early days of exploring BTS, I often wondered why they don't do more harmonies. But now I live for the interplay between their distinct tones.
    ===========
1:06:00 - I think many people like Agust D's aggressive side in his songs. But Suga said in his concert that he would try making songs with less anger. In Suchwita episode 19 with Kim Jong-wan from the band Nell:
Suga: Of course when I was young, I also had a lot of anger and rage. Anger against the world and against the system. But as I made my mixtapes, a lot of those negative emotions got reduced. So during "D-DAY", compared to "D-2", people said a lot of that rage was gone. But I think that can't be helped. I don't think I need to bring back the emotions I've already dealt with.
Kim Jong-wan: Yeah, there's no need.
Suga: Right? Of course back then, I was distressed and wanted to quit, but those thoughts went away through music, so now I'm thankful for those times. It was thanks to those moments that I can do all this now.
I can't wait to see what his next album is gonna be like.
    =================
1:09:00 - In the live performance of "Vibe" by Taeyang ft. Jimin, you can hear Taeyang speak Jimin's name very clearly when he's introducing him.
    ==================
1:28:00 - BTS albums usually have groups songs, solo songs, and unit songs. A unit can be any combination of the members, but the most common ones are the rapline and the vocal line. It seems that, except for the two aforementioned ones, they try not to repeat the combinations. So, for example, "Jamais Vu" is the only song from this unit (so far). Btw, I don't think you've reacted to a rapline song or a vocal line song. They're all incredible songs, I think partly because they can focus solely on rapping or on singing.

Richard, it is never too late to add to your musical taste. In 1976, I was just finishing university, and my musical love was folk and protest songs. I think this is one reason that BTS resonated with me when they found me 3 months ago .... their lyrics have something special, important and personal to say to all of us. And i am now appreciative of rap, at least as done by RM, Suga and Hobie. Unfortunately, I have reached the age when things like dementia are becoming more common in my friendship group, though thankfully not my husband or I at this point. Jamais Vu reminds me of this terrible illness as it effects some people so they feel that a person, experience, object is brand new but have the nagging knowledge in the back of their mind that it isn't and they should recognise and remember it. Very frustrating and sad for the sufferer and the partner or friend or family.
As to Dionysus, yes it was part of the 2019 award show you watched ... after PERSONA, BOY IN LUV, BOY WITH LUV, MIKROKOSMOS, SOLO DANCES FROM THE MEMBERS and the big production entry of many dancers and horses galore .

One thing about BTS is that they really have a lot of "fan" songs in a sense that you can tell they had army in mind when they wrote them and that can seem fake or like a money grab. You'd expect these songs to be all love/romactic songs but that is not the case..they can be happy, sad, fun or even angry which is not very usual. And that's because if you see a bit further, as much as these songs are about army they are about them too and their lives and that's why you can feel the sincerity listening to them. We are extremely distant from each other but at the same time we coexist in a deeper level and we are a big part of each others lives..So these songs are not about/for BTS or army, they are about us as a unit and how we affect each others lives and souls

Boy In Luv is a teenage song about confusion about love, asking their parents how to talk to girls and trying to figure out how to approach them and being confused and hormonal. They try on different hats in the MV like sweet guy, bad boy, cool guy, etc with the girl who represents an archetype.
Boy With Luv/A Poem for Small Things is a more mature understanding of love. It's about understanding that love is not about grand gestures or a secret code to unlock to win your lover. It's about being curious about your loved one and wanting to spend time with them in ordinary situations and get to know all the little things about them as people. It's more about having the courage to be vulnerable and open.
Saying that they have made "more than one" fan song is.....a gross understatement. LOL
Songs directly addressing, talking about or referencing ARMY or dedicated to ARMY include:
    2!3!
    Whalien 52
    21st Century Girl
A Supplemental Story: You Never Walk Alone
    Paradise
    Magic Shop
    Boy With Luv
    Best of Me
    Lights
    Sea
    Euphoria
    Answer: Love Myself
    Anpanman
    Mikrokosmos
    Home
    Save Me
    Make It Right
    Heartbeat
    00:00/Zero O'Clock
    Dynamite
    Telepathy
    Butter
    Stay Gold
    Permission To Dance
    My Universe
    Yet To Come
    For Youth
    The Astronaut
On The Street with J Cole
    Promise
    My You
    Still With You
    Letter
    Closer Than This
    Wherever u r with UMI
    We Are Bulletproof: The Eternal
    Take Two
    Path
    Moon
    The Stars
    I Know
    Pied Piper
And there are probably more that I am forgetting....They have hundreds and hundreds of songs in their discography. Usually when they mention lights or space themes (Mikrokosmos, lights, astronaut, moon, stars, galaxy, universe, etc) they are talking about ARMY, because ARMY Bombs looks like a sea of stars from stage. They call us their "little universe" or their "little galaxy." An exception to this is 134340/Pluto which uses Pluto being removed from the list of planets as a metaphor for loneliness and alienation, so a space theme that is not about ARMY.
Often, not always, but often, when they write love songs, they say they are thinking of ARMY. Jungkook dedicated Please Don't Change to ARMY when he performed it at Time's Square. There are other songs on his album Golden that I could see him relating to ARMY as well, like Closer and Standing Next To You, since he specifically says he is always thinking about ARMY when making songs like these, but they don't have lyrics specific to ARMY and he hasn't said.
    33:44
In case you don't know.....there are a ton of Singing in the Rain references in the MV. There are movie posters for it in one scene, and many scenes that are references to the film, like the street with streetlights, the stage scene, the theater, couch, dancing on the piano, as well as RMs white outfit with the hat and umbrella, styled off Gene Kelly's white outfit in the film. Also notice how the streetlights wink on in purple, for ARMY. The marquees around them during the scene where Namjoon/RM is on stage have the names of their previous albums and eras.
BTS has said that Halsey is their best friend in the industry. She is the only artist they have gifted a sparkly mic like their own, and who did choreography with all of them in their song, even though she is not a dancer. She calls them "The Uncle Gang" to her son. She is particularly close to Suga. They have collabed together multiple times and he has spent Christmas at her home in L.A. He says she feels like a childhood friend, though they met as adults. Also notice that in this MV they are in many places that they would interact with ARMY, public places like street scenes, a lobby, outside a theater, at a stage, in a restaurant, etc. They are in their outside Personas. There is another song in the Map of the Soul series, Lights, from their Japanese album in the series called Map of the Soul: The Journey, where they are inside the theater and talking more intimately about love and how ARMY is their guiding light, but it's also a love song to each other as being the light for one another in their lives.
    35:00
I agree, I wish it was not such an industry thing to use autotune for an effect these days. Their voices are outstanding without it. That said, there are songs where it fits better for the style, and they also have a lot of songs where they don't use it which you have not heard.
    38:20
Yeeeeeessssssss.....my Hobi's dichotomy is the beeeeeest! He's my bias. I adore everything about him. HIs lighter side, his grittier side. His rock god side. His dance. His charisma. His smile. His laugh. He serious side. His lyricism and flow. His vocals. I could go on, but I'll stop there. LOL
You would notice if you watched more of their other content that they all refer to one another with that affectionate Korean long e suffix like in Hobi : Jungkookie, Namjoonie, Jiminie, Hoseokie, Taehyungie, etc. Except Jin as eldest gets called Jin Hyung by all of them, and Yoongi/Suga, second eldest, is Suga Hyung or Yoongi Hyung. Jungkook, as youngest, calls everyone Hyung, so Taehyungie Hyung, Namjoonie Hyung, etc. Heirarchical titles by age are a big deal socially in S Korea. Sometimes Jungkook calls Jimin Jiminssi (Jimin-she) which is a long-standing joke and basically means Mr Jimin.
    55:27
Make It Right is for ARMY. An apology and making amends for almost breaking up in 2018 with the immense pressure they were under. Not that they needed to apologize to us! But they felt like it was a betrayal of our faith and trust in them and wanted to make it up to us. This was their promise to do that. In the animated MV you didn't finish with the version with LAUV, you can see ARMY turning into a cloak and shielding them through those tough times. When they thought they were alone, ARMY was wrapped around them the whole time. They also have a return collaboration with LAUV called Who, which is a gorgeously haunting song.
    1:10:05
Yes, all of BTS is definitely musically multi-lingual, they cover so many genres.
    1:16:27
Home is for ARMY too. RM said this album was really full of songs for ARMY, with the exception of Jamais Vu, Persona and Dionysus. So, Boy With Luv, Mikrokosmos, Make It Right and Home are all songs for ARMY. The chaos in that performance is legendary. The spinning room, JK with the pullups in the kitchen and hyping up the toaster, Jimin balancing on the stool and making us all fear for his life because of his history with falling off chairs, the pillow throwing and furniture jumping. Jimin really shines on this song.
The "s" in Jamais Vu is silent. (Jha-may Vu)
Yes, Jamais Vu is a gorgeous song. That little piece of music at the end of the video is Suga singing Interlude: Set Me Free from his Agust D second mixtape album, D2.
Sub-unit songs are most often Rap Line songs and Vocal Line songs, both of which I believe you have heard, plus various other less frequent groupings.
    Some other sub-unit songs include:
    It's Definitely You ~ V & Jin
    Friends ~ V & Jimin
Waste It On Me (Steve Aoki feat ~ RM, JK & Jimin)
Dreamglow (w Charli XCX) ~ Jin, Jimin, JK

Did you get that Dionysus is about wanting to be drunk on their art? The words for art and alcohol are very similar in Korean, so it's a play on words too. They have a number of these self-referential songs, in their group and solo work, talking about their art and their life as artists, discussing burnout like in Black Swan, but also talking about their struggle for authenticity, meaning and longevity as artists as well as songs like this one about being in love with and passionate about their art.

Their rap as BTS is always clean, their solo stuff, not always however the lyrics are important, even on the pop songs. Jimin changes his contacts with his hair color, LOL. His natural eye color is brown.
I totally agree, their producers really over process their vocals, however it makes the popular music crowd happy.
They are singing the lyrics , also notice, army sings so pretty, right on pitch! This was the last wings concert and they were suppose to go on tour again with Map of the soul 7 , then covid came in March 2021MOS 7 was scheduled for April of 2021, I think. ARMY, is this right?

Hi Guys! Thank you for a very long BTS reaction hehe. If I'm being honest, BTS's B Side songs are my favorite, not that the title tracks are not good, I WILL NEVER THINK OF IT THAT WAY hehe, because I personally DO NOT skip any of their songs - I love them. This is also the 1st time I literally know every song of a certain artist, that's how much I love them hehe.
Anyways, going back, I do recommend listening to their live performances like the Jamais Vu and Mikrokosmos.
    Here are some:
    - The Truth Untold
    - Blue & Grey
    - Butterfly
    - Hold Me Tight
    - Zero O'Clock
    - Love Myself: Answer
    - House of Cards
    - Pied Piper
    - Dimples
    - Magic Shop
    - Spring Day
    - Like
    - Outro: Wings
    - Look Here
    For Japanese:
    - Film Out
    - Your Eyes Tell
    - Crystal Snow
    - Let Go
And when I say "some" I meant it hehe. There are so much moreeee about them 💜🫶

47:56 so the chants they did here, it’s in the song😅 the actual chant would be posted the day of the album but they sit down while listening to the album together and they do the chant, and we learn it.
(It’s on every “Comeback live special” video. You guys can check it out if you are curious.)
Basically whenever a group makes a comeback, they can switch up the way we say their names, but we usually say their names at the beginning of the song to the beat of that song.
Also a comeback, which would be a new era, they usually have a different concept or add to the last concept_ they make those chants according to the song. ( I’m repeating myself but yeah😅 that)
Also the chant with their names, the majority of kpop groups have videos for that. But I’ve noticed that out of all the groups the difference with the fan chants is that they usually put ad-libs in the song and that would be our chant, other groups create a chant and bts adds it to the song to make it easier
    1:27:46 Jamais vu
It’s just 3 of them, Jin, Jungkook & jhope
(They have group songs in the album and unit group songs) the unit is just some members basically these 3 guys did this song and the others that are left, have a song as well
    Thank you guys for reacting❤❤

I especially love Taehyung (V) smile at Jimin at 1:04:35 :') they (all 7) are all such sweet brothers and I think it's just wonderful especially seeing them in a less manufactured setting if you ever see them in their behind the scenes or their travel documentaries (Bon Voyage BTS) and their "game" show (Run BTS which is free on youtube).

Thank both of you for continuing to listen, and bring BTS music to the forefront . I hope you’ve given compliments to ARMY who never miss a beat or a phrase, and are always in the correct time singing along. After their last Festa, they all went back to their natural color of hair and preferred it and loved it overtime some of them played with color. Jimin had a scalp issue when they over colored his hair and he was very uncomfortable with it. Namjoon gave an interview one time where he felt that he didn’t like the person he was when he had the very blonde hair. To most of us it makes no difference. They’re wonderful no matter what they do. Thank you for doing all of this.

I wanted to watch you live, and so glad I got to see this now! Omgosh! The time just flew by! I won’t comment much since I see that so many others have already said much of the same things. The only thing is with Home, the official MV is the animated one and I have no idea why someone else was singing on it. I was happy that ARMY convinced you to switch to the Jimmy Fallon version and you did get to see them having fun in that one with the incredible set! J’amais vu is French and yes, it touches my heart whenever I hear it. Love the pic of Shirley Jones and then the one pulled up before Dionysus. I would be too embarrassed to show my photo at a younger age. Can’t wait to see Johnny’s photo at 15. I’m 50 yrs young! I can’t wait to see the next one and so glad you read up on some of the meanings. Also, it was great that you had heard some of these already from the awards show so now you got to see the lyrics and meaning. I too am older and ARMY and love Suga’s rap! I love all of them! 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
Since you know JHope’s nickname, there are some where they use their real names - RM is Namjoon (Joonie), Suga’s real name is Yoongi with a hard ‘g’, Jin is Jin. lol.😝 WWH ‘ Silver Voice’, Jimin is the same but some say Jiminshee where shee is used as a term of endearment so it depends on how you use it. I just use their regular names or stage names or August -D. Jungkook is JK (the Golden Maknae), V real name is Taehyung but many say Tae or Tae Tae. Yes, JHope’s real name is Hoseok. I didn’t include the last name first. Thought I’d give you something different to have to learn.😂 Thank you so much for this Richard and Johnny! What a great pair you guys are to do these reactions! 💜👏👏👏🇨🇦🫰🏻🥰oh, last thing. When you mentioned the layering in Dionysus, it’s Jin doing both the low and high tones

Love that you did the whole album!!
Yes, ARMY *and* BTS can't conceive of anyone else having been BTS's leader than RM. As Army Mom said, he has gravitas, he's got charisma for DAYS, and-- no mean feat-- his EQ is just as high as his IQ. And he is absolutely 1000% committed to BTS. A year after they debuted, Bang PD (the boss of his company) and the other members pranked him on a hidden-camera setup. Bang PD pretended he was really dissatisfied with RM's producing work while he was leading BTS, and point-blank asked him to choose going solo, or staying with BTS. Without a moment of hesitation, he answered "BTS."
I loved your comments on Hobi's voice. You're going to laugh, but one of the first voices I mentally compared his to was Carol Channing (for the rasp, not the cutesy aspect.. although between his sound effects and his sunshine personality, it might be more on the nose than I first realized....).
And yes, the media often talk about ARMY's crazy parasocial relationship with BTS... what they don't realize is that it's parasocial BOTH WAYS.

Well, actually... Based on the concept. It was supposed to be 3 albums in Map of the Soul. It was supposed to be MOT:Persona, MOT:Shadow & MOT:Ego. However, because of the Military Enlistment, Jin is reaching that age where he should serve, so they had no choice to just merge it in a long album. And as celebration for their seven year with the seven members, they agreed to just call it MOT:7.
Basically Map of the Soul of all seven members.

Pdogg is the main producer. They produce in a bit different way, Suga explained it very well. They kind of create a camp of creators, and they put all ideas together and from there they keep going till they perfectionate it.
Today a days there is less participation of other creators and more of themselves as they are more experience in production, but still they work with a lot of people and they participated in production from the first album, specially rapline. Obviously they are the oldest and they also taught and encouraged the youngest ones.

At the end of 2018 BTS won awards and during the acceptance speech Jin mentioned they struggled from exhaustion and considered breaking up. ARMY was devastated that they didn't know about what was going on. When Ed Sheeran proposed this song BTS thought it could be an apology to fans for almost giving up and not trusting ARMY would support them no matter what. That's why they are going to 'Make It Right'.
