    yey! can't wait. just wanted to comment this before the premiere if you don't mind...
    here are setlist and concept for the MMA 2019 perforrmance so you'll know and understand the production:
    Songs:
    1. Intro: Persona
    2. Boy in Luv
    3. Boy with Luv
    4. Mikroskosmos
    5. Solo stages where they perform to remixes of their older songs:
    - V = No More Dream
    - Jin = Danger
    - Jimin = I Need You (Suga plays the piano solo for this th-cam.com/video/JyHaRCMbx6A/w-d-xo.html)
    - Suga = Fire
    - Jungkook = Save Me (the MV for this was done in one continuous shot, it's really cool!)
    - Jhope = Fake Love
    - RM = Intro of Dionysus (which they performed as the finale)
    Each member represented a Greek god:
    V - Apollo, God of the Sun
    Jin - Ares, God of War ( or Athena, God of Wisdom)
    Jimin - Artemis, God of the Moon
    Suga - Hephaestus, God of Fire
    JK - Poseidon, God of Sea
    J-Hope - Zeus, God of Thunder
    RM - Dionysus, God of Wine
    And the lights that come down before each solo performance make a star constellation, the Corona Borealis, seven stars (for 7 BTS members) that make up the distinctive crown-shaped pattern. In Greek mythology, Corona Borealis was linked to the legend of Theseus and the minotaur. It was generally considered to represent a crown given by Dionysus to Ariadne, the daughter of Minos of Crete, after she had been abandoned by the Athenian prince Theseus. When she wore the crown at her marriage to Dionysus, he placed it in the heavens to commemorate their wedding.
    6. Dionysus (instrumental remix of N.O. for the dance break)

      Wouldn’t it be great if a Western Awards Show allowed BTS to do what they do and not just perform one song? It will blow the whole music industry and change the DNA of the Award shows in the west. But of course, I really doubt they will give BTS that opportunity which is so, so sad really.

    You asked about choreo? They had one choreographer in the beginning, Son Seonduk, he's been with them pretty much their whole career. As time passed other choreographers joined, and they would engage outside choreographers. Sometimes they'd work directly with them, others they'd send in a choreography and Seonduk and JHope would work together to adjust the choreo to fit the members a bit more directly. Every choreographer they have worked with has said how great it was to work with them because they're so hard working and easy to work with, very humble, and so passionate about it.

      Even Jimin adjusted choreo a few times from the very beginning like the tricks for the choreo for their debut songs were his idea. His dance style outside of group performances is more influenced by other choreographers since it is a different style.

    Hey guys! Something helpful to know about Kpop award shows: Just like BTS concerts, Featured award show stages are a mix of pre-recorded stage performances (shot without an audience but "live" on the venue stage the day before) and live stage numbers. On TV, the entire set appears to be live, but the audience is watching parts on a giant screen that covers the stage. Here is how this one went.
    First song is pre-recorded, as well as the very first shot of the second song's stage set. Then the screen rises (not shown on TV) like a curtain to reveal the members in the same setting on the live stage.
    Second and third songs performed live on stage
    Fourth song pre-recorded at the venue and shown on the big screen to the audience
    The dance features are a mix of live and pre-recorded
    Most of the finale song's opening "Overture" is pre-recorded with some minor live bits here and there. The final scene of the pre-recording shows the members together again on the stage's final set. Like earlier, the audience (not us) sees the screen rise to reveal the members live on stage in the same positions as they begin the final number.
    A good way to know what's live is that you can see the audience. No audience shots = pre-recorded. When it all comes together it's a mind blowing and spectacular performance! Basically makes any show in the US look like a backyard talent show.

      @@Throga It's a lot to bite off and chew for your first group video. I stayed up all night to catch the MMA live stream that year, and the power of this stage is even greater than you realize. So why were all of us brought to tears as soon as we saw the set and costumes for the first song, Boy in Luv?
      We already knew they were going to sweep the awards. Literally everyone was glued to their screens in South Korea to see BTS collect their All-Kill. And ARMY was ready to see them be recognized without listening to media or netizens questioning their legitimacy for once. We were ready for them to get honored at MMA with a final stage. But we were not expecting them to start with a set, costumes, and original choreo from their first "big" concert from 2014 (attendance of 5,000 which was more than they had ever dreamed they could draw). It was a performance nobody but ARMY had ever seen because back then nobody took them seriously. Only ARMY had seen the music show clips, the Red Bullet Tour fancams.
      Opening with a 6 year-old song, with 6 year-old costumes, set, and choreo (that blew everyone at MMA out of their seats) was a message to a world that had doubted them, mocked them, dismissed them:
      "See? We have always been good enough to take all your awards."

    Some context we all learned recently! Yes, BTS have spectacular stages at award shows, but this was especially massive, it was supposed to be almost a send off? They released their album Map of the Soul 7 following this in early 2020, and were supposed to go on a global stadium tour following its release. Unfortunately, the pandemic cancelled it.
    What we learned recently is the break they're currently on for their military service, they planned to start that following their 2020 tour, not now.
    Instead, the pandemic happened, the tour was cancelled, and BTS stayed 2 more years with us to try to make us happy during the pandemic, and they continued to give us music and performances.
    But that's why this stage is especially massive, it was supposed to be a send off in a way, which we only leaned during Festa when they talked about how they were supposed to take a break in 2020 🥺💜

      I had no idea the plan for them to join the military after the MMA legendary performance and after their 2020 world tour. I would assume it was a good time for them to go to the military then since the world stopped for almost 2,years and it would’ve been a good time for them to go finish the military and come back to continue as BTS but that is hindsight now plus we wouldn’t get songs like Butter and Dynamite and their BE album during the pandemic which allowed them to be more exposed to even more audiences to discover BTS, especially in western countries since they released 2 full English songs in Dynamite and Butter.

      @@iwubfood1That's what I thought too, in hindsight - but then again, remember how frightening the pandemic was at the beginning (not just the beginning, but for two whole years before it started to taper off in the third year). It would not have been ideal to enter military life during a pandemic, in close sleeping/living/training quarters with a big group of trainees, instructors and personnel. Remember how strict the first few lockdowns (and social distancing rules) had to be. I think, apart from hoping that they would finally be able to reschedule that tour (which never happened), they stayed out of the military because of Covid as well. 🙂

      Now that u mentioned it, I just remembered that JIN turned 28 on Dec. 2020. It was the max age one could delay enlistment before they passed the BTS law, right before his bday, and extended the delay 2 more yrs til age 30. So it makes sense if they had a tour then it would've probably ended before his bday and had time to prep for his MS but no one could've anticipated the pandemic then. It really ruined some of their plans. That's probably why we have contents released only now that was already planned and recorded years ago 🥲

    I have chills down my spine watching this performance again. I miss our pre Covid BTS eras. I invite everyone who doesn’t know to go and read the lyrics of Persona and research the meaning behind them because every single BTS song has an important message behind them. It’s not just some pop or kpop song, the messages behind the lyrics, they really make you question society, yourself and others. That’s what attracted me to BTS all those years ago. I wish there were more songs like this in western music industry. And that’s why BTS are truly unique and above the rest of the industry. They don’t just perform, they wrote their own lyrics, co-produce, co-create their choreos. They are just the best of the best.

First ever sweep in history of the award show. What's worse is that they couldn't even rest and sit down after this cuz they had to get up every minute to receive each award, i felt exhausted for them like just give them a CHAIR ON STAGE it's easier 😂 they look like their legs were about to break
    In the end also, idk if u noticed, the backup dancers have to mive around the chairs where they do the hand move on that table, but the one that had to put jimin's chair was a bit late. Jimin was sitting on AIR like it was nothing and people noticed only when the fancams from the side view of the performance came in. Yes Johnny- that was World Wide Handsome. Good eye! Oh in the Dionysus song- WWH Jin does the low and high notes. He even does a "rock" scream at the end. There's a great story about that scream. Jin can hit some seriously high notes especially with their Japanese songs. One is Crystal Snow where Jin does a triple high note. 😊

    2019 was my first Asian award show season, and I got up at 4 am here in Florida to watch. I was like, we are so jipped with ours ,the Scammys, etc. Mikrokosmos was pre taped, with AR visuals, and parts of the solos as well. But THIS performance, as a westerner, just blew me away. So much to explain. Artists at these shows perform 2 or more songs, or medley but they aren't rushed. All the groups get a chance to shine. BTS was/is different. They went from getting cut from broadcasts to making a whole award show theirs. I've not been impressed with American TV or shows, of any kind since. I'm so glad you enjoyed it. They are our kings.

      There are good and bad things in comparison with the music industry in the west and kpop. Kpop tends to be more cohesive in their goals with companies invested in their artists training until they make their debuts that brought us BTS. Western mainstream music artists are geared towards more independent artists in that music western industry. With everyone going in too many different directions, you won’t get the type of epic performance from the biggest artists at award shows like back in the 1980s and early 1990s from the likes of huge artists such as Prince, Madonna or Michael Jackson.

    "Is it a common thing for a group to have this kind of staging?" Among South Korean groups, BTS were the first ones to bring out these very elaborate stages with a lot of production and many backup dancers. But as with anything BTS did, the kpop industry was quick to follow and start to do the same ...or try to, at least. I just want to clarify because it sometimes causes confusion...although most of the solo features that you saw prior to Dionysus were prerecorded, that doesn't mean these performances weren't done live. The prerecordings were the ones *broadcast*, but most of the show was still performed as seen live. The only parts not done live on stage during the show itself was the horses being brought on stage (for obvious reasons) and JK's water dance (for obvious reasons). All the other performances were done live on stage, but for most of them (except Jimin), the prerecorded versions were the ones broadcast.

    So many things to answer, but one that most others might not mention is that the 🎤 and ear pieces aren't just colour coded, but Jungkook himself was responsible for creating all of the engineering specifications and sound aspects for each mic, custom made for each band member. With his perfect pitch, responsibility for most of the guide tracks, plus his intimate familiarity with each member's range and abilities, he took the lead in constructing the requirements for each to best showcase the members individually.

    Johnny, correct! They played "O Come, O Come Emmanuel" in the video package right before the Dionysus medley. Emmanuel means "god-with-us," therefore the song is announcing BTS as 'gods among us' before they each portray Greek gods. Also BTS later explained that this performance was meant to be their last before beginning Chapter 2 and enlisting in the military. When the world changed in 2020, they chose to prolong their group projects to bring hope to the world. So, they really meant to go out with a bang and a message about their top-tier status in the music industry.

By performing their older hits they were teasing/preparing us for one of the themes of their next full album that they would drop a few months after this performance called Map of the Soul: 7

You would be seeing them grow from teenaged boys (2 cool for school) immersed in Hiphop (Dark & Wild) to sensitive young men (The Most Beautiful Moments in Life/HYYN) exploring issues (Wings) (Love Yourselves Trilogy) to who they are as artists exploring their identities (Map of the Soul: Persona & MOTS 7) just before and during the pandemic (BE & PROOF) and now (solo albums). Solo performances were showing off their superstar individualities - hence you see the 7 lights, coming as 7 star Northern Crown constellation, present in greek mythology - just like the god Dionysus.

    @Throga-VocalGym - It is not common to have 20-30 minute performances by one musical act. This was specific to BTS. This concert was around the time they were the first Asian musical group to win American Awards. So this along with 2018 and 2020 performances were EXTRA special. The scene with the universe is Mikrokosmos and is a song to ARMY. If you have time, you should read the lyrics - they're beautiful and hopeful. This album has an influence of Greek words and Greek themes in it along with self reflection (Who am I, Who will I become). Mikrokosmos translates to small world. Dionysis is the Greek God of Wine and Pleasure. Did you notice the Trojan Horse that Jin entered on? So the featurette section in Dionysis had songs from their albums. If you noticed the flow from member to member, it told a story. This is my interpretation: You can dance thru life (V), but life will always have unpredictable moments (Jin on the Trojan Horse) and life can be beautiful at times (Jimin) but there are also times where it feels like you are in the fire pit (Suga) and crying out for help (Jungkook). However, the key is to keep moving forward (JHope) and take control of your life (RM).

    I really enjoy your reaction.
    I accidentally saw this video with English subtitles so it was easier to understand.
    Oh Nothing on BTS stages is ever a coincidence. The group is known to be meticulous to details… symbolic meanings.
    So this live performance uses songs from their different albums to illustrates their growth from frivolous schoolboys to young men.
    It’s easier to understand the storyline when one keeps Carl Jung’s theories on ego, persona, shadow and self… and ancient Greek mythology references(in its song and visual aesthetics) in mind.
    So they sang about finding joy in little things in life to reaching out to the world forming their own light, own star (microkosmos) and the progression of stars coming together …
    During Dionysian festival, a man sounding the Etruscan trumpet announced the procession and called upon the gods and their arrival…
    V: Apollo, god of sun 🌞
    Jin: Athena, goddess of Justice 🐴
    Jimin: Artemis, goddess of moon 🌝
    Yoongi: Hephaestus, god of fire 🔥
    Jungkook: Poseidon, god of water 💧
    J-hope: Zeus, god of thunder ⚡️
    RM: Dionysus, god of wine and ecstasy 🍷
    Part of the procession on Geonosis stage:
    1. Maenads were female followers of Geonosis
    2. Big Panther balloon: the God of Dionysus rode sidesaddle on the back of a panther
    3. Thracian horses. It is thought that horses enable people to make contact with feelings they’d buried deep inside their shadow. 🤷🏻‍♀️
    4. A group of Epheboi, young men, marching in modern clothes wearing fedora hats symbolizes present marching to future ? (The name “fedora” is derived from Greek word theodoros, which literary means - gift of God. )
    5. 10 tribal commanders and 3 concurrent Archons (magistrates) of Greek cities. It also includes a veiled horseman. This is a reference to Eubulides' "enkekalymmenos" or "veiled man" paradox/fallacy. The "veiled man" therefore represents paradoxical selves - whose persona you know but whose shadow you do not recognise.
    One light = one star, one god.
    Seven light, seven stars which appear as a constellation representing Corona Borealis- the crown of the Princess Ariadne of Crete wore on her wedding day when she married Dionysus.
    When the seven stars come together under the command of BTS leader RM (Dionysus, the God of wine), they partied celebrating life….

    J-Hope is the Dance leader, and he is in charge of their stages, so I'm sure he works with the choreography team, and he has said that they will adjust the choreography for their needs, and also add his own. And there is input from the dance line as well. And Yes, BTS is the exception, as far as I know. They tend to make the award shows their concerts. I heard that in order to have their visuals, it was over $500,000 to put it together. I think some of it was pre-recorded. YES, Grammy's are dull in comparison, but BTS performed their and it was the best Grammy performance ever.

    This performance is one of the best introductions for BTS as a group! It shows how good their teamwork and chemistry is, as well as their amazing performance skills. It also shows a bit of their individual colors without letting one shine more than the others and that’s one of the things I love the most about BTS - they have the perfect balance between the members and they all compliment each other. They prepared this whole performance in just a few weeks after they came back from their packed world tour! They always give their best and I admire them for it. No other group was ever given this much time at the award show! The whole show lasts about 3-4 hours btw. Anyways, BTS proved they deserved it because that night they became the first group to ever win ALL four Grand awards!
    This was one of the best reactions to this performance, and I watched many. I love how invested you were and how much you payed attention to everything! Watching you guys really brings me joy💗 It’s okay if you don’t know all the songs, you’ll learn with time! Personally, I love it when people watch BTS perform on stage before diving into their discography because seeing their energy on stage as well as interactions with fans and appreciation for them shows a lot about how they are as a group! You have to know a bit about their core and energy before listening to the songs! It brings out the emotions better. Also, BTS are known for sounding better live than even on the recordings! I strongly suggest reacting to the performance of their albums’ title track after listening to it. That’s how you get the full experience! I really hope you’ll do it. B-side songs reactions can be in a separate video…. Anyways, thank you guys so much for your reactions to BTS! I can’t wait for the next one💜

    For those who don't know, BTS is known for the symbolism behind a lot of their work. This performance is a perfect example. I'm surprised no one has mentioned it. This is goimg to be a long comment. So please read on if your interested.
    This performance was about the relationship between BTS and ARMY. RM started the show with Who Am I? The first answer was Boy in Luv from younger BTS. Then things matured to Boy With Luv (BTS in 2019). The next song is Mikrokosmos which is about the universe created by BTS and ARMY. The mood of the show changes and lights begin to drop from the ceiling as each member performs their solo. It is theorized that each member is supposed to represent a different aspect or legend of Dionysus during these solos. Once the seven lights are all in place, they form a U shape. The shape represents a constellation called Corona Borealis. In Greek mythology, Dionysus gives it as a crown to Princess Ariadne on their wedding day. Now, the mood changes again and we are invited to a feast with guests and horses. Some ppl theorized it is supposed to be a wedding feast. In many cultures horses can be part of a bride's dowry so it does make sense. Now, it is time to celebrate so BTS closes the show with the party song Dionysus. All in all, BTS puts A LOT of thought into their work. They are the ultimate performers.

    MMA 2019 definitely one of my favorites! They are amazing artists and yes the Grammys pale in comparison to these award shows!! Jimin especially blew me away during his live solo performance! I’ve been hooked ever since!

    Thanks for your reaction, 🎉. The dance practice of this performance is also on Bangtan TV.
    The award presentations where BTS performed live ended up being like their concerts. In MMA2018 where they do traditional dances or IDOL in MAMA2018 that they turn into a party, they are impressive. They can sing and dance at the same time because they trained as high-performance athletes with hypoxia masks (Suga explains this in Suchwitta with Jin and J-Hope), so seeing them live must be fascinating.

    This performance was so fun because ARMY were suddenly researching Greek mythology trying to figure out which God each member represented. Theories were being tossed around live. The seven lights being the 7 stars in the Corona Borealis / crown associated with Dionysus because all of the solo dances are part of the intro to the Dionysus performance.

    ❣️Jimin’s solo performance, wearing a modernized hanbok just fastened by ties only, had many different dance elements in it! Including the barrel leaps taken from Korean dance elements, some martial arts elements, (trained for 8 yrs in various forms w/blackbelt in Taekwondo), & of course contemporary dance. Also, equally ever so stunningly outstanding, was Jimin's scarf work, which is alone so hard to master, without getting that ever so thin veil of a scarf all tangled! Jimin somehow was able to make the scarf one with himself, using it as an extension, even at one point when he did that amazing jump leap straight up the scarf becoming his wings!! Jimin's whole performance was so amazingly stunningly beautiful. Just so effortlessly breathtakingly mesmerizing to see!! Though the other members did a version of their solo performances for benefit of the live audiences, for the broadcast version as seen here, viewer see the prerecorded version, that was prerecorded the day before, since especially JK’s performance in water with that heavy tank that weighed a ton wouldn’t be able to maneuver for live audience, as well as some of the other effects seen like for Mikrokosmos, also the part with the horses was obviously prerecorded as a safeguard for the horses. It also gave a chance for BTS come up for air as well as give them time to change. Jimin was the only one who didn’t have the benefit of prerecorded VCR, which meant that for his solo performance by the broadcasted version, viewers saw Jimin perform live only. While the broadcast version showed for rest of members the prerecorded version. But once again the live audience did get an opportunity to see BTS members do a version of their solos.

      Aaah I am so happy fyr observations on Jimin's performance. I hv always marvelled at how he was so flawless without getting all entangled by the scarf. It was very tough choreography & even JK didn't realize it was the actual live performance.

    25:16 So from my memory, by the end of 2019, it was like the apex of BTS’ career. I remember that year my mind kept being blown by how huge they’ve become, and if you know their history (working against/despite a lot of hate, mistreatment, industry discrimination, etc.) it wasn’t an easy for them to achieve success in the first half of their career. Anyway, they earned that 40 minutes of time at the MMA which I think is unprecedented for an award show lol. I’ve read a bit of their plans that week of the MMA. I knew that they would of course perform songs from their last album release which was Map of the Soul: Persona as one expects, but from what I read, Big Hit wanted to showcase each member by kind of spotlighting each individual that show their character/color. What was cool is they made instrumental/remixed versions of songs that they’ve released over the years since their debut (whether or not it ever got their flowers) during it. It felt like BH thought it was time for BTS to wear that crown in front of the industry and that not only unapologetically show they are a powerhouse as a group and their music, but showing each member is a star in his own right (unlike a lot of music groups that we know of, only one is a star/standout). Which they did actually, because they swept the all four grand prizes at MMA and the same for MAMAs the week after. The first to sweep grand prizes (aka daesang) for both MMA and MAMA. To me, it felt like there was a shift that there’s definitely no denying they’ve reached legendary status and that was only 2019. Kind of remind me a little of Gandalf the Grey in Lord of the Rings that became Gandalf the White lol. This is just on the account of my perspective at the time.
    Setlist:
    Intro : Persona (2019 - MOTS: Persona)
    Boy in Luv (2014 - Skool Luv Affair)
    Boy With Luv (2019 - MOTS: Persona)
    Mikrokosmos (2019 - MOTS: Persona) (like micro cosmos but replace “c” with “k” lol)
    Solo spotlights:
    V - No More Dream (2013 - debut song from 2 Cool 4 Skool)
    Jin - Danger (2014 - Dark & Wild)
    Jimin - I Need U (2015 - The Most Beautiful Moment in Life, Part 1)
    Suga - Fire (2016 - The Most Beautiful Moment in Life: Young Forever)
    Jungkook - Save ME (2016 - The Most Beautiful Moment in Life: Young Forever)
    J-Hope - FAKE LOVE (2018 - Love Yourself: Tear)
    The final song was Dionysus (2019 - MOTS: Persona) which incorporated a crazy remix of N.O. (2013 - O!RUL8,2?) in that crazy dance break.

      Also, probably my first time hearing someone recognizing that piano piece lol. I recognized the Christmas song, O Come, O Come Emmanuel right away. I don’t know if they had a significant reason for that, but the mood of it fits the moment. MMA was on November 30th, it was sort of getting close to the Christmas holiday but I think they just feel like it fit the mood.

    This huge "concert" was made because of their first (and first in the history of the awards) daesang (grand prize) sweep. If I remember correctly, it was made with their own label's money.
    It's basically their history. We start with "Persona" from their newest album at the time and RM to point that the band was built around him as the leader and with the persona that they've shown to the world (as per Carl Jung's theory of psychoanalysis, also seen with their shadows in the video shorts). With "Boy In Luv"/"Boy With Luv" we see an arc of their stylistic and lyrical growth. Next is "Mikrokosmos" - an ode to the ARMY and how we've helped them every step of the way. They give us the recognition in their story, enhanced by them "disappearing" in the darkness for a short while and giving the center stage to the expressions of love from different parts of the world that they want to say back in that moment. In the finale, you see them as different Greek gods (Apollo, Athena, Artemis, Hephaestus, Poseidon, Zeus and Dionysus) - each of the members' intro is to an important song in their career in a chronological order, a milestone - from their first single to the titular "Dionysus" from their latest album (at the time) that again RM walks to, making a full circle with the first song. With every intro, a light that is a part of the constellation (Corona Borealis) is shown, symbolizing their ascension into the pantheon of the "gods of music" (circling back to Jung and the "ego") and they sing their final song about being drunk on art in relation to Dionysus being the god of wine. And to bring it back to Jung for a moment, what they say with this this whole performance is: "we've shown our personas, we've accepted our shadows and our egos got rewarded in the process". It's both a treat and a trip😂.
    The location is Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul.
    MAMA - Mnet Asian Music Awards
    MMA - Melon Music Awards
    It's typical for a K-pop group to have many members, you can find even larger ones (but that's usually a "graduation system" then - members being replaced with age, doing shows as subunits etc.). What's also typical is to have an odd number of members instead of an even number because it looks better visually as a formation on stage.

    Son Sung Deuk, their first choreographer, built this amazing team out of two people who'd been dancing since Childhood (Jimin and Hobi), an Actual Child (Jungkook), two rappers (Namjoon and Yoongi), and the "Visual", literally hired for his looks and sometimes as coordinated as an Excited Toddler who's genetically unable to gain muscle mass easily (Jin). Those last 3 did hours and hours of extra training, before and after grueling weeks with their brothers.

    I am glad you checked out this performance, even though I was not sure you were ready. After you see more from BTS, things from this show will make more sense. Something often said after watching this, who was up next? I mean who could be. 😂 This show/album had a foundation from the Jungian theory of personality development called Map Of The Soul. I love the nerdy inspirations these guys have from art, literature, and psychology. Note their incorporation of the "shadow" figures in the vcr intro and transition shown on the jumbo, a significant part of Karl Jung's theory.. Anyway, I am glad you had fun. I have seen this 2 to 3 dozen times and see more each time. You most likely will go back to this down the road and will enjoy it even more. Thank you for sharing your BTS journey.

I bet most, if not all, baby ARMYs also went in blindly when they first watched this. At the very least, my fellow ARMYs have already helped by leaving some comments about exactly that (timestamps and everything, thank you!) and you can always come back to that later. Ahh. You guys are a joy to watch especially love watching you discover the amazing world of BTS. They are just out of this world and their content is so deep. Their albums, music videos, performance videos, dance practice videos, choreography versions of their music videos, stage performances, award shows, and the story line that runs through certain videos. That’s not even getting their Weverse lives, their show Run BTS (not to be confused with their song Run BTS), their vacation/travel specials, and other misc. activities. Their are so good to provide so much entertainment and content for Army. You have just scratch the surface. Now you can see why Army can watch long reactions as we love to watch new people experience what we have with BTS and get to vicariously experience those “first moments of awe” again. We just love the guys so much. I can’t wait to see what they have in store for us in 2025 especially as the younger members have really grown with their releases of their solo work. Now you see why we are not impressed by the Grammy’s any more. Asian award programs are outstanding and BTS performances are legendary stages even by their standards. I would not want to follow BTS after their spot. As a side note, there are larger KPop groups. These often have subunits in them. An example would be Seventeen which has 13 members. Even during BTS hiatus during their military service we have plenty of old content to revisit as well as new materials that they have prepared in advance. It will be crazy when all of them are serving but at least it is staggered so it won’t feel as long hopefully.

    Hi guys! Get ready for way too many answers:
    You asked how far back they’re pulling from: this whole production was basically an ode to the history of their discography! This was journey through their music and also meant to show their individual charms. I’m gonna go through all the tracks in this post so buckle up.
    The do multiple songs/snippets of songs of their discography, as I said, paying tribute to their past and present. Below, I’ll list the songs in the performance and years they were released.
    Persona - RM solo from the 2019 album Map of the Soul: Persona.
    Boy in Luv - Title track from their 2nd mini album, Skool Luv Affair (2014).
    Boy With Luv - Meant to be their 2019 response to Boy IN Luv (which was about teenage love) as they’ve grown and now have a more mature view on love.
    Mikrokosmos - The track is also from the album MOTS: Persona (2019). It’s a song for ARMY. The elements (the stars and planets) were augmented reality and all of the phrases on the screen that lifted were “I love you” in different languages.
    -Now the individual sections-
    These are instrumental/remixed snippets about a minute long each of a selection of their title tracks.
    No More Dream - Their debut title track from their first album 2 Cool 4 Skool (2013). (Performed by Taehyung (V))
    Danger - Title track from their first full studio album Dark & Wild (2014). (Performed by Jin)
    I NEED U - Title track from The Most Beautiful Moment in Life (often abbr “HYYH”) Pt 1. (2015) (Performed by Jimin)
    Fire - The title track from The Most Beautiful Moment in Life: Young Forever (2016). (Performed by Yoongi (Suga))
    Save ME - Also first appeared on The Most Beautiful Moment in Life: Young Forever (2016). (Performed by Jungkook)
    Fake Love - Title track for the 2018 album Love Yourself: Tear. (Performed by Hobi (j-hope))
    Dionysus - The finale track is also on MOTS: Persona (2019). It’s the song they opened the with on the Speak Yourself tour. The dance break during Dionysus features an EDM remix of their song N.O that was from their 2013 mini album O!RUL8,2?
    No, a 40 minute time slot isn’t normal even for MMA/MAMA awards. It was a huge year for BTS and yeah, this is not typical. But when that horn blew, something shifted.
    They all had their official solo debuts in 2022-2023, but at the time of this performance, they had performed solo tracks on their albums and some had released some solo or subunit songs (like Jin and V’s ‘It’s Definitely You’) and Namjoon, Yoongi, and Hobi had all dropped (free) mixtapes at this point.
    I know that’s a lot of overwhelming info, but I hope it answered your questions and then some.

    Thank you for reacting to this! Yeah, their award shows have ruined US award shows for me LOL. Soooo, it is frequent practice for Korean award shows to pre-record segments of a planned performance to broadcast to ensure broadcast quality but also to allow the artist to change clothes or for staging to be reset. BTS has a habit of going ahead and coming out and doing the song/performance live while the pre-recorded segment is playing, if the timing of resetting things allows. There are fancams of the guys doing that for this show as well. Mikrokosmos was pre-recorded so some of the visual was post-production. And the solos were pre-recorded but the guys were on-stage doing it live in front of the crowd while the pre-recorded clips were played for the people watching the broadcast - the exception that Jung Kook didn't do his in water while waiting for the next group setting. The horse entrance and such was also pre-recorded and went 'live' when it was time for Dionysus to actually be performed, so no horses there on stage the night of the actual show. But yes, they absolutely sing and perform live and kill it every time.
    I am so happy when the guys are able to perform at US award shows because they always do such a great job, but I am also always frustrated because US award show staging and camera work is always lacking after seeing some of these from oversees (don't get me wrong, MMA and MAMA and other shows over there have had their drama with poor camera work in the past, but the US shows always focus on the audience for some reason unless it is a really big US star they want to give extra love to).
    Also except for Emmanuel, all of the music is from their songs, but remixes for this specific performance.
    Thanks again!

    They committed in their teens not knowing that they wouldn't ever be able to have a normal life. They couldn't have known being an idol was going to be their whole identity for the rest of their lives. They can't even go out without a bodyguard or two. Didnt see this mentioned. For pre-recorded songs they still have an audience. Except the audience is exclusively ARMY who usually win invites thru official ARMY memberships. And sometimes stay hours into the morning while BTS performs the pre-recording. So when you see the members waving during that song they are actually waving at ARMY.
    Also this was designed exclusively for this award show, as are all there award show performances the only items brought from there actual tour was the giant blow up leopard and the moving tables. But costumes, lighting and even remixes are exclusive to this award show.
    Most kpop grps get between 1-3 songs and the more popular you are the later in the show you perform, BTS performs last and longest. Sometimes newer grps dont even perform inside the award show and instead perform live on the red carpet.
    Korean red carpets are different from USA where instead of a stream of celebs around each othee, each person\grp enters the red carpet alone. Does an interview with the red carpet host while posing for photos and then leaves the red carpet and heads inside.

    all the songs used in their little solo appearances are part of their discography, starting with their debut single and going chronologically as each member appears! the last one (RM) is actually Dionysus, the last song they performed, which was from the album they were promoting at the time (as well as RM’s Intro: Persona, Boy With Luv and Mikrokosmos that they had already performed). even that huge dance break in Dionysus actually starts with the intro from their 2013 single N.O, which was absolutely insane to watch back then, because literally no one saw that coming. i got goosebumps i can’t even describe lol even to this day i still get chills watching the second half of this performance, but specially that moment. the first group song they performed was Boy In Luv, from the 2014 album Skool Luv Affair, which ties with their 2019 single Boy With Luv that they were promoting. this whole performance was really, really well crafted. i think it’s worth watching again after you guys are more familiar with the original songs, because most of the snippets included in this performances are actually remixes/versions made specifically for it, and it’s even more exciting to watch while knowing the original!
    i’ll leave a list to all of the songs they used, and each album they come from!
    1. Intro: Persona - MAP OF THE SOUL: PERSONA (2019) [RM’s solo. fun fact: they sampled the instrumental from Intro: Skool Luv Affair, of their Skool Luv Affair album, to make this song]
    2. Intro: What Am I to You - Dark & Wild (2014) [the little string intro/transition that played before Boy In Luv]
    3. Boy In Luv - Skool Luv Affair (2014)
    4. Boy With Luv - MAP OF THE SOUL: PERSONA (2019)
    5. The Truth Untold - Love Yourself ‘Tear’ (2018) [the instrumental that played during RM’s english monologue / transition to the next song]
    6. Mikrokosmos - MAP OF THE SOULD: PERSONA (2019)
    7. No More Dream - 2 Cool 4 Skool (2013) [V solo part; also their debut/first single]
    8. Danger - Dark & Wild (2014) [Jin solo part]
    9. I Need U - The Most Beautiful Moment in Life, Pt. 1 (2015) [Jimin solo part]
    10. FIRE - The Most Beautiful Moment in Life: Young Forever (2016) [SUGA solo part]
    11. Save Me - The Most Beautiful Moment in Life: Young Forever (2016) [Jung Kook solo part]
    12. FAKE LOVE - Love Yourself ‘Tear’ (2018) [j-hope solo part]
    13. Dionysus - MAP OF THE SOUL: PERSONA [RM solo part]
    14. Dionysus - MAP OF THE SOUL: PERSONA
    15. N.O - ORUL8,2? (2013) [the song’s intro was used in the first part of the dance break, where you can hear RM’s voice talking + they also used vocals from the song throughout dance break]

    ❣️This was from the annual Melon Music Awards, a Korean award show the equivalent to the BBMA’s. BTS swept the awards, thus closed the award show, though many other artists did indeed performed beforehand. The cost of the production for BTS entertainment company BigHit, was over 500K dollars, and all the in-house production team of BigHit started planning it over half a yr beforehand! Also most of the rehearsal time that BTS had was while they were touring worldwide. But they all were quite into doing this, and somehow managed to fit in the rehearsal like they did the yr before. All the solo performances were prerecorded live with smaller audience the day before, with exception to Jimin’s solo performance, who only performed live only, without the benefit of prerecorded VCR, since there was no way to have these stage sets and tank pool of water let alone have JK who was performing the dance in water get dried and change clothes beforehand! BTS did also perform a version of their solos, while the broadcasted version saw the VCR version filmed day before. The only one who performed live only without benefit of VCR being shown,for the broadcasted version, was Jimin, who shows here being the phenomeno breathingly amazing professional dancer which he was before even signing on to BTS. Also certain songs like Mikrokosmos, as well as beginning part of RM’s Persona, was performed live beforehand and also prerecorded so they could also allow for the special effects that only people who saw the broadcast on TV in South Korea or had it stream worldwide could see that version. Also the part with the live horses was filmed beforehand without an audience.

    Honestly, THIS IS THE GREATEST PERFORMANCE EVER OF ALL TIME BY ANYBODY!!! IT'S LITERALLY SO COOL AND WE DON'T TALK ABOUT IT ENOUGH. I COULD WAX POETRY, I WANNA MAKE A WHOLE MUSICAL JUST BASED ON THIS SHOW.
    To answer some of your questions:
    1. Rapline had solo mixtapes and vocal line members had released some solo songs but they all "officially debuted as soloists" Only in chapter 2 - June 2022
    2. So 2019, 2020 they released the Map of the soul series which is centered around Jungian Psychology. But a couple song are call backs to their earlier releases and encapsulates their entire journey as people and artists. For example they start off with 2014's Boy in luv (album: skool luv affair) paralleled with 2019's Boy with luv ( album: Map of the soul: Persona). So... The end of year award shows were like this huge wrap up of their entire discography and career - hence this performance has a medley of snippets of all their main title songs before jumping into Dionysus. This is where we get a bit of each member, their style and different music.
    Plus it kind of feels like the past few years have been these extravagant love letters to their past cause we also got their anthology album Proof in 2022. This is also because they were supposed to enlist for the military in 2020 but got a postponement till 2022, so it's kinda like we got multiple goodbye songs/albums/performances from them since the turn of the decade 😢
    3. This length of performance is definitely an exception for bts, but yeah Korean award shows are reeeaalllly long, often the entire day. And since bts is the biggest, they perform at the end and army usually have to wait a lot. And yes, BTS PERFORMANCES ARE HIGH ENERGY AND INSANE but this was definitely was a whole new level for them and us. I mean 2019 was an insane year - huge world tour, so many performances, so many awards - they were definitely beyond exhausted but they still put on this HUGE SCALE MONSTROSITY WITH FUCKING LIVE HORSES and ANOTHER WHOLE AWARD SHOW AT MAMA - like they're insane. Plus a Christmas show. They do a lot. Just reading their schedule is exhausting.
    4. Dionysus is the Greek god of wine - so you'll notice a lot of ancient Greek motifs in the set design, costume, props. They compare making art to getting drunk as both can be intoxicating. Plus alcohol and art sound similar in Korean, so lot of word play for you to discover. But by far, one of the most interesting, unique and brilliantly crafted songs by bts on multiple levels. Here's a Genius articles breaking it down, enjoy!

    BTS award shows stages are always amazing, the production is always massive. Believe me, American award shows are nothing compared to BTS award shows performances. When they perform in the US (AMAs, BBMAs, Grammys), the scale of production mostly reduced, but even then, it's still very much amazing production because they always perform high quality performance. They usually build their own stages/sets for award shows, so it's special for each stage. They even rent a whole stadium for award show performance in the pandemic. I don't know how much money they have spent for each award show performance, but I bet it's really big.

    They run on a treadmill while singing in order to help expand there lung volume. That's how they can dance so hard and still sound so good. Jungkook is known for his vocal stability.

    The solo dancing was the intro to Dionysus - Each member is a god. RM comes out as God of Wine (Dionysus ) and begins the finale performance with the song. BTS are true artists. Each stage is strategically choreographed with deeper meanings than just a song title.

    37 minutes of unbelievably rivitting performance from BTS. It was a greatest hits performance. Hard to imagine that at this point in their careers internally, they were struggling with a lot of issues and whether or not they should continue. We are all so lucky that they found the internal strength and the dedication to pursue and become the world class artists they are.

    (Just to give you some context/background): This set list was so long (even for BTS) because (as we found out only last year in 2022) they thought this would be their farewell award show before their 'final' world tour (for their 2020 album) and then military service. But then Covid happened and everything was thrown up in the air. Their tour kept being canceled, then rescheduled and canceled again. It was during this limbo period that they decided to go for a fun English single (Dynamite, their first of only 3 all-English songs as a group) - not expecting it would blow up like it did. The Dynamite MV set the record for most-viewed MV in the first 24 hours at over 100 million views! Then the next year, "Butter" surpassed even that with some 108 million views in the first 24 hours. (Even Army asked themselves later what kind of crack they were on to achieve those numbers - must have been obvious interest, appeal to the general listening public, the songs being fun and all-English, and vast swathes of the world having more time in lockdown/working from home).
    Obviously, BTS were already huge globally (selling out stadiums worldwide, etc.) but this pandemic era shot them even higher into the stratosphere. BTS' official HYBE channel and Twitter accounts gained millions of new followers. The South Korean president at the time designated them as Special Presidential Envoys for their UN General Assembly appearance. They were also invited to the White House in relation to the campaign against anti-Asian hate which was peaking during the pandemic. Their brand prestige was so high and so positive, it started to feel like they'd be asked to institute world peace next. RM admitted briefly during their 2022 "Festa anniversary dinner" that it was like they were now expected to be diplomats on top of everything else. I was actually afraid for them because of the dizzying heights of their fame and popularity (the higher you rise, the bigger you could fall, a theme Suga often alludes to). But BTS being BTS, they stayed humble as ever and took matters into their own hands, announcing that they would finally take that military-focused "hiatus" and time to pursue official solo projects under the label. Every member has always had solo songs on the BTS albums; the three rappers have released solo mixtapes from 2015 on and all of them have randomly released solo or sub-unit songs for free on Soundcloud, etc.
    In answer to your comment/observation - most Kpop groups have 5-7 members, some have 4 and a few have 9 or even 13 or more (just from passing observation)! I think 7 is fairly standard for these groups. Because every member dances, it has more visual impact when there's a built-in 'crew' of 6-7, unlike Western groups in the recent past where maybe just 1-2 (of 4, maximum 5 group members) danced really well and the others just kind of flanked them. And every member has their own forte, so it makes sense to combine a mix of strengths and talents to create a well-rounded whole. And, in turn, each member is trained/expected to be well-rounded performers individually.

    Ô Rafa... lááá atrás, 2013/2014 o Jimin não recebia aulas específicas de canto como o V e o Jungkook, mas ele ficava ouvindo e depois treinava. Naqueles tempos os colegas de BTS disseram que ele dormia pouquíssimo... tipo treinava sozinho canto e dança (ele já dançava no ensino médio e hoje é um dos melhores bailarinos contemporâneos da 🇰🇷) até 4 da manhã e acordava 6:30... E antes do debut, nos tempos de trainee uma pessoa sempre dizia a ele: você pode não estrear... você pode ser "dispensado". Esse tipo de situação ajudou a tornar Jimin esse artista magnífico! Que sorte a nossa... que o amamos!💜🐣

    Once you guys get through more of their massive discography this would be fun to revisit and make all the connections and understand the references the way long time ARMY did watching this performance. Since they got such a long set they just went and did a whole remember the good times set lol

    RE: their mics and in-ears, they have their own personalized and custom- made microphones which they used here and for the most part of the "Love Yourself: Speak Yourself" world tour:
    RM = Blue
    Jin = Pink
    Suga = Black
    J-hope = Red (before this he originally had a silver mic)
    V = Green
    Jimin = Gold
    Jungkook = Purple
    At this time, only RM, Jin and J-hope's were covered with Swarovski crystals.
    During the "BE" era, some of them changed to a different custom color:
    RM = he had two mics - one Silver and one Black with rainbow crystals
    Jin = White
    Jimin = Orange
    Jungkook = Purple
    Suga, J-hope and V's mic color remain the same and except for V, all of their mics were now embedded with Swarovski crystals. (According to Crystal Glowe, the company who custom made them, each mic required approximately 4500 Swarovski crystals)
    During the Lotte Concert in 2021, they again unveiled new mic colors:
    RM = he stayed Silver with light blue crystals
    Jin = Light Green with crystals
    Suga = Silver (metallic)
    J-hope = Light Blue with crystals
    V = Dark Green (metallic)
    Jimin = Light purple with crystals
    Jungkook = Purple (metallic)
    During the "Permission to Dance" and "Proof" era:
    RM = he returned to a Blue mic but in a darker tone still with crystals
    Jin = he returned to his original Pink mic with crystals
    Suga = still Silver (metallic)
    J-hope = Mint green with crystals
    V = Light Grey (matte)
    Jimin = Silver with crystals
    Jungkook = Purple with crystals
    And now that they are doing their solo stuff - Jungkook uses a White Mic while Suga uses a Black one with lotus flowers engraved (these are the two that I know so far :D)
    BTS' colored microphones represent their personalities. Just like how the microphones have evolved over the years, so have BTS members’ characters, thoughts, goals and personalities.
    A fun note - if you type BTS on the Google Search Box then click on the purple heart beside the group name, purple balloons will float onto the screen and heart-shaped ones has their original microphone colors in it. If you pop one, which ever colored mic you happened to click will be the voice of the member saying "I purple you". Enjoy!

    The best or the most popular band at the moment Is offered the last performance of the award shows in Korea. In 2019 BTS were given the most prestigious spot of MAMA 2019. It turned into a 38 minute concert! At the very beginning they didn't have any chance to perform at the award shows ..not even invited...and once they only allowed them to perform at the Red carpet. They worked really hard and 38 minutes...unheard of...just shows how high they are regarded now.
