@Josh But the term “British” was created when Britain ruled all of the British Isles, and there wasn’t a difference. Isles that they ruled through forceful invasion and subjugation of Ireland. Now there is a difference between the British Isles and Britain, and the Irish people like it that way(Except maybe people in Northern Ireland, but that’s it’s own can of worms)
Zach Scott's Minecraft lets play was honestly based as hell, I used to watch that final episode like daily. He also introduced me to Pokemon weirdly enough, it felt like such a godsend to finally realise that the things in Pixelmon were the same in the game he was playing
If people now are still looking for channels with the Let's Play format from "back in the days", Chuggaaconroy is doing pretty well and has consistently made quality edited videos to this day. -EDIT (Jan 2024): God fucking dammit man.- EDIT (Apr 2024): Reverting the edit cuz. While I still don't know how I should feel about this (or what the future holds), the videos were genuinely good and the memories of me watching his content are still mine to keep. So I'll keep it there.
Believe it or not, Zackscottgames taught me english, im a native spanish speaker, and my dad bought me a Nintendo wii when i was around 6 which got me into games, and i was searching for games on youtube and THANK GOD i was blessed of getting ZackScottGames recommended the first, i watched his multiple videos daily and eventually i picked up english, its been 9 years since i speak english and 10 since i know zack. This was back in the Scottland Minecraft days (So good, please Zack if you see this make a reboot of a Minecraft playthrough). I've watched the Dark Moon Series around...13 times full. ACTUALLY just Yesterday i re watched it and got this video recommend today. (Probably the best series he's ever done) It's also the reason for why i think dark moon is the best of the 3 games. He also DID THE SAME THING twice, he started Skyward sword and left it midway without finishing it, my life is uncomplete and it needs closure. I'd say a LOT of gaming youtubers still do let's plays to this day, only difference is they no longer put "let's play" in the title. Gaming is still massive on TH-cam
I loved his videos, I even won the golden noodle awards and my Twitter was put on the tree, on the Christmas episode. Now all his videos are horror games etc.

Good news is, I just made another channel and did huge in 2020-22. Then 22-23 I got to shoutcast for The Pokemon Company, international. I appreciate you mentioning me in the company of certain channels that were much more massive than mine was… but hey, was still nice to hit almost 70 million views, 200k subs - this was never a career for me, didn’t make much money, it was about helping people. Got the new channels now, got a 5-year old son now, life is still crazy and stressful but I’m grateful so many people got to have fun with the videos I made back then. It’s nice to be under the radar because while some people haven’t heard my name in years, with the PoGO and UNITE channels there’s a whole new audience that got to have a different kind of impact completely separate from Scribbles or DrKendoCommentaries :) Thanks again!

Oneyplays is honestly the only let’s play channel that still keeps that oldschool style, while also bringing in a lot of views due to their content being pretty enjoyable to anyone, even people who don’t play games, as well as having some already well known internet figures like Zach Hadel, the guy who made smiling friends.

All I needed was Chuggaconroy NGL. Very well thought out let’s plays that were insanely educational, you can tell he just had a genuine passion for the games. And he still does, he makes great videos still. I think he’s the only prominent let’s player left because he was the best one.
What sets Chuggaconroy apart is the level of attention planning and RESEARCH that he puts into every Let's Play he does. Like the vast majority of Let's Plays are just a funny guy playing through a game and making jokes throughout, with Chugga you learn everything there is to learn about a game. To be honest I don't even think he is that funny and for that reason I never got SUPER into his content but I have always admired his dedication to the craft and his unique approach to the LP format. His series are almost like long-form video essays, and that gives him an appeal that can't be replicated by newer funny guys streaming games on Twitch, which I think is most of what has replaced the traditional Let's Play
To be fair, there's still a good amount of Let's-Players that are doing a good job keeping it alive. Namely Chuggaaconroy- in fact he's currently LPing the original Paper Mario and is relatively close to the end. Heck, all of TheRunawayGuys (Chuggaa being one of the three founding members) are doing good keeping the genre alive.
Blitzwinger, man that man was my introduction to TH-cam and the internet as a whole, this guy was literally a third parents to me and I always watched his videos, I had hoped that he would grow with his audience but i genuinely feel sad (which is rare for me) when I look at what his channel is now. I’ve never seen anyone else mention him really so this hurt hearing about his channel
Damn that brings me back. Blitzwinger was my introduction to minecraft. I'd heard of the game before, but his series sold me on it. And his creative world was where I got most of my inspiration for my own builds, I miss that.
As a kid i always wanted to be a lets player, seeing a era almost forgotten fills with sadnes. My lets play group were Markiplier, Yummymash, Dlive, GameGrumps, Pewds, Stampy, SkydoesMinecraft, and Jerma

Pewdiepie stopped gaming (unless something really interested him) and now only really uploads if he feels like it, since he's settling down, wants to be himself without being tied to expectations and is pretty much rich. Jerma plays videogames, collabs and organizes game shows, sports games, and other fun variety content out on twitch. Last I knew of Skydoesminecraft is that he fell off the face of the earth after how abusive he was came to light. And I believe Stampy is doing the exact same content as he always has... with his channel slowly dying as a result (so I heard a year or so ago, no idea now)
It's funny seeing Jerma on this list considering how big he has become in the streaming space nowadays. Def bigger than he ever was as a LPer, although idk if he actually had that many traditional Let's Plays? I wouldn't call his TF2 stuff Let's Plays and that was most of his early content.
I find it kinda funny how out of all the Let's Play Channels from back in the day Chuggaaconroy is the only one that hasn't pivoted his content entirely or dropped off in views and has instead continued to improve and consistently pump out quality content
I got so genuinely emotional during this video from remembering so many videos and fond memories, I had never thought about zebra gamer or blitzwinger in years and there were plenty more that this video reminded me of. The worst part is a can't remember a majority of them. Those memories seem so recent and yet I can't remember a single thing about them. I remember games and profile pictures, and maybe the channel concept every once in a while, but.... that's it. I don't know how to feel about the memories this video provoked, but they definitely reminded me of something. This might be the stupidest video that has given me such strong emotions. Thank you? Im shaking rn. That name, that profile picture, that voice…I was there, learning Blitzwinger’s upload schedule so I’d be ready for his next video. I was obsessed with his videos, especially his skylander ones. Its sad to see after all these years, he’s become just another reaction youtuber.
My first lets players were WiiLikeToPlay and Chuggaconroy. WRTP were gods among men to me but then 2 of the 4 men left…then they returned but the other 2 left when they came back. They ain’t performing like they did but they gave me some amazing memories. Chuggas views kinda flux but in the end he’s still doing good and watching him now feels no different than how it felt watching him 12 years ago and that’s a good thing. I suggest watching him, he needs the love.

Zach's Minecraft videos are really underrated like there's some nostalgic bangers in there he made a lot of them so this quite a bit to shift through until you get to the actual good stuff not to mention I'm pretty sure some of his Minecraft videos have been deleted but there's still some diamonds in this pile of coal
It was like a much earlier, much funnier, and more adult-oriented version of the Dream SMP. I still go back and rewatch those videos randomly and it always puts me in a good mood. There were so many funny people in those Minecraft videos and it's crazy how many of them ended up getting pretty big on youtube themselves

I distinctly remember this one mc video of his that freaked me tf out as a kid, like idk if I'm remembering this completely right (it's been like 8-9 years after all lmao) but the main part of it was the guy in the black & yellow shirt had this super disorted voice like it was all deep n shit and this food place they were in like caught on fire or sum I think the end was Zach like burning in lava(???) Let's Plays are literally the reason I joined TH-cam, because I wanted to comment on a Let's Play video. The days of watching a Let's Play and Classic NG / TH-cam Animation back in 2012 and 13 were so great that honestly, I wish I could go back, even If I have to sacrifice stuff in my life now like my education. Chuggaaconroy was and still is amazing. It's a shame that many TH-camrs I loved quit the Let's Play formula. Firewizard23 was a small TH-camr who was actually the person who made me want to write that comment. I remember getting older and seeing the FNAF wave hit in around 2015, which was insane. My channel literally turns 10-years-old in a few days, and it's all thanks to this formula.
Dang. This was a huge blast from the past. My siblings and I watched nearly every let's player you mentioned on here (with the exception of GlitchMaster7), and they're home to some of our fondest childhood memories. Thank you for making this video so that I could relive them.

I too got into Zack Scott when I was younger and even now I keep up with him from time to time. A lot of LP TH-camrs I used to follow either left or transitioned to just streaming which makes me appreciate that Zack still makes LP style videos

HUGE shoutout to Chuggaaconroy. He's managed to stand the tests of time and is still making high quality LPs. Some of his best work is done with the Pokemon games, where he covers EVERY Pokemon with their own bios, going over their stats, moves, and strategies you can pull off with them. The exact same thing goes for his Splatoon LPs, and to a SLIGHTLY lesser extent, his Xenoblade 2 LP. His Xenoblade 2 LP is actually my favorite one, and it got me to not only give the game a chance after all this time, but go online and buy both it and the DLC, and now I'd say it's one of my top favorite games ever. Emile puts in SO much effort and passion into his videos, and it really shows. Truly deserving of his success.

That was such a chaotic video. But I watched thru to the end. I started a Let's Play channel relatively recently, and ZackScottGames was a big inspiration. I love the simplicity that he approaches games with. Just a pure, "I'm here to play the game and enjoy" type of vibe. No fat, no side-content, no posturing. And I love Nintendo games. Zack and Chuggaaconroy are big inspirations, especially because they are still going. And like you said, they've largely not changed. Thanks for the video!
16:35 its so weird seeing someone else online hit point after point on things they watched throughout life and interests they had and just how closely they reflect yours. Im starting to remeber stuff I used to be into and watch. Like remember fidget spinners??? that stuff was all the talk at school, and the content on youtube at that time was so kid friendly and clickbaity, while at the same time having stuff like content cop and other edgy videos on there. i was going to write something here about some youtubers and lets players i used to watch but i literally cant do so without being overwhelemed with emotions and i dont want to do that right now. awesome video man
I come from an even older school of let's plays, back when it was people playing emulated games and commentating over them. They became most notable for being featured in Retsupurae, and were chiefly mocked for their inane commentary - ironic that this inane commentary is what came to define the genre down the line.

I remember I was really young and I was watching zackscott on my sister’s computer while she was in the same room (she was also pretty young). I remember they were playing Minecraft and like they were building a rocket and then I think zackscott said “shut the hell up” and my sister said something like “hey that’s a bad word you can’t be watching that” and then I never watched zackscott ever again
In middle school I'd watch the let's players Slimkirby, darkmindedsith and a few others than high school I really got into the whole group of chuggaaconroy, nintendocaprisun, lucahjin, protonjon, JoshJepson, and such. Especially AttackingTucans tho!!! His versus with JoshJepson was my life back in high school. I used to mod for Tyler back in 2017/2018 and have actually became kinda friends with Tyler now so my dreams come true I guess.
Dude I can’t believe how many videos you mentioned that I used to watch too. Glitchmaster7 actually started streaming every now and then on Twitch, and sometimes does VTuber dance dance revolution lol. But this was really well made and I think that you managed to get a diverse amount of channels mentioned, and a ton that I haven’t thought of until now too. Awesome video!

You got me going down the rabbit hole that is my browser bookmarks. When i was a kid, i don't think i knew i could make playlists on TH-cam. I did however understand that you could bookmark websites, and so i did for essentially every TH-cam video i thought was cool enough. Its bringing back memories, gotta say if you ever decide to make a 3rd video about fansongs, you gotta listen to 'i love chickneys', it was iconic to me. Also rewitnessing probably some of the first ever youtube videos i watched "Caramelldansen - Hedgehog Havoc: Now that's WIKKED!" And "Ultimate Caramelldansen: the Sonic Extravaganza", and honestly i don't think i ever fully forgot them. When i first got into sonic at the age of 4 back in like 2007, my life was changed, like those next 6-7 years of my life were an entire field day for me. I spent probably over 1000 hours on sonic games alone. Honestly probably way more, I think i had like 300 hours on sa2 last time i checked, and then 270 for sa1, and considering i also played sonic colors, unleashed, rush, mega collection, heroes, chronicles the dark brotherhood, secret rings, black knight, generations, riders, both of the allstars racing games, and shadow the hedgehog, not to mention any fangames i played, i'd say ive played over 1000 hours lol. Anyway can you tell i liked (and still do) sonic? And it was ALSO wild seeing videos i bookmarked after i realized i was a furry back in 2015! Oh lupisvulpes, you were probably my introduction to the furry fandom, but then you were transphobic back in like 2019 or something, and also decided to work on whatever that butch hartman christian television thing was that i dont think is ever coming out and honestly i don't think ive ever seen anyone fall from grace in such a strange and unpitiable way. I started watching Zackscott in 2013 and he’s still my favourite TH-camr to this day, it’s so sad that he’s not as popular and also what’s going on with Egon right now
funny to see Zackscott i used to enjoy his splatoon 1 videos bc i didn't have a WiiU and a few months ago i got to go against him in splatoon 3 and even made it to his video, it made me so happy to see that he still enjoys making Lets Play videos he was the sole reason why I love splatoon in the first place. I still enjoy many Lets Play TH-camrs and I hope that many will continue making the content they like especially for others like me who are too broke to have all types of games and gets to experience the game along with their favorite content creators. :)
I haven't seen the original video but I've watched Chuggaaconoroy along with several others in his circle that appeared on the group LP channel TheRunawayGuys. I fell off plenty of these channels though and just kinda lost interest. I also watched SGB which was SomeCallMeJohnny's LP channel that sadly ended in 2020. It sucked because he wanted to have a proper finale for that channel since him and the other people that are part of that channel were all going their separate ways but then the pandemic outright abruptly ended their finale year. How I viewed Let's Plays is kind of a overly high standard since due to watching Chugga first, I view Let's Plays required to be a video strategy guide and needing to show off and complete absolutely everything in each game

As an indie dev, this video makes me sad. Let's Plays used to be a great way for people to discover smaller games. Small games get buried on Twitch.

Believe it or not, Zackscottgames taught me english, im a native spanish speaker, and my dad bought me a Nintendo wii when i was around 6 which got me into games, and i was searching for games on youtube and THANK GOD i was blessed of getting ZackScottGames recommended the first, i watched his multiple videos daily and eventually i picked up english, its been 9 years since i speak english and 10 since i know zack.
This was back in the Scottland Minecraft days (So good, please Zack if you see this make a reboot of a Minecraft playthrough).
I've watched the Dark Moon Series around...13 times full. ACTUALLY just Yesterday i re watched it and got this video recommend today. (Probably the best series he's ever done) It's also the reason for why i think dark moon is the best of the 3 games.
He also DID THE SAME THING twice, he started Skyward sword and left it midway without finishing it, my life is uncomplete and it needs closure.

Oneyplays is honestly the only let’s play channel that still keeps that oldschool style, while also bringing in a lot of views due to their content being pretty enjoyable to anyone, even people who don’t play games, as well as having some already well known internet figures like Zach Hadel, the guy who made smiling friends.

All I needed was Chuggaconroy NGL. Very well thought out let’s plays that were insanely educational, you can tell he just had a genuine passion for the games. And he still does, he makes great videos still. I think he’s the only prominent let’s player left because he was the best one.

What sets Chuggaconroy apart is the level of attention planning and RESEARCH that he puts into every Let's Play he does. Like the vast majority of Let's Plays are just a funny guy playing through a game and making jokes throughout, with Chugga you learn everything there is to learn about a game. To be honest I don't even think he is that funny and for that reason I never got SUPER into his content but I have always admired his dedication to the craft and his unique approach to the LP format. His series are almost like long-form video essays, and that gives him an appeal that can't be replicated by newer funny guys streaming games on Twitch, which I think is most of what has replaced the traditional Let's Play

To be fair, there's still a good amount of Let's-Players that are doing a good job keeping it alive. Namely Chuggaaconroy- in fact he's currently LPing the original Paper Mario and is relatively close to the end. Heck, all of TheRunawayGuys (Chuggaa being one of the three founding members) are doing good keeping the genre alive.

Pewdiepie stopped gaming (unless something really interested him) and now only really uploads if he feels like it, since he's settling down, wants to be himself without being tied to expectations and is pretty much rich. Jerma plays videogames, collabs and organizes game shows, sports games, and other fun variety content out on twitch. Last I knew of Skydoesminecraft is that he fell off the face of the earth after how abusive he was came to light. And I believe Stampy is doing the exact same content as he always has... with his channel slowly dying as a result (so I heard a year or so ago, no idea now)

I got so genuinely emotional during this video from remembering so many videos and fond memories, I had never thought about zebra gamer or blitzwinger in years and there were plenty more that this video reminded me of. The worst part is a can't remember a majority of them. Those memories seem so recent and yet I can't remember a single thing about them. My first lets players were WiiLikeToPlay and Chuggaconroy. WRTP were gods among men to me but then 2 of the 4 men left…then they returned but the other 2 left when they came back. They ain’t performing like they did but they gave me some amazing memories.
Chuggas views kinda flux but in the end he’s still doing good and watching him now feels no different than how it felt watching him 12 years ago and that’s a good thing. I suggest watching him, he needs the love.

It was like a much earlier, much funnier, and more adult-oriented version of the Dream SMP. I still go back and rewatch those videos randomly and it always puts me in a good mood. Let's Plays are literally the reason I joined TH-cam, because I wanted to comment on a Let's Play video. The days of watching a Let's Play and Classic NG / TH-cam Animation back in 2012 and 13 were so great that honestly, I wish I could go back, even If I have to sacrifice stuff in my life now like my education. Chuggaaconroy was and still is amazing. It's a shame that many TH-camrs I loved quit the Let's Play formula. Firewizard23 was a small TH-camr who was actually the person who made me want to write that comment. I remember getting older and seeing the FNAF wave hit in around 2015, which was insane.
My channel literally turns 10-years-old in a few days, and it's all thanks to this formula.

I too got into Zack Scott when I was younger and even now I keep up with him from time to time. A lot of LP TH-camrs I used to follow either left or transitioned to just streaming which makes me appreciate that Zack still makes LP style videos

HUGE shoutout to Chuggaaconroy. He's managed to stand the tests of time and is still making high quality LPs.
Some of his best work is done with the Pokemon games, where he covers EVERY Pokemon with their own bios, going over their stats, moves, and strategies you can pull off with them. The exact same thing goes for his Splatoon LPs, and to a SLIGHTLY lesser extent, his Xenoblade 2 LP. His Xenoblade 2 LP is actually my favorite one, and it got me to not only give the game a chance after all this time, but go online and buy both it and the DLC, and now I'd say it's one of my top favorite games ever.
Emile puts in SO much effort and passion into his videos, and it really shows. Truly deserving of his success.

That was such a chaotic video. But I watched thru to the end. I started a Let's Play channel relatively recently, and ZackScottGames was a big inspiration. I love the simplicity that he approaches games with. Just a pure, "I'm here to play the game and enjoy" type of vibe. No fat, no side-content, no posturing. And I love Nintendo games. Zack and Chuggaaconroy are big inspirations, especially because they are still going. And like you said, they've largely not changed.

They became most notable for being featured in Retsupurae, and were chiefly mocked for their inane commentary - ironic that this inane commentary is what came to define the genre down the line.

His old ZackScott channel is actually a underrated gem of the past, and I like how you mentioned he has been changing his style of videos lately, because I've noticed it too and I hope it works because he is definitely the best let's player out there.

i was around for the very end of ZackScott's minecraft series (which almost hit 1000) and I vividly remember watching through a lot of those videos with all his friends like swimmingbird, and heartben, both of which ended up becoming favorites of mine. I love seeing his new videos in my recommended, knowing hes still going fairly strong a decade later.

I remember I was really young and I was watching zackscott on my sister’s computer while she was in the same room (she was also pretty young). I remember they were playing Minecraft and like they were building a rocket and then I think zackscott said “shut the hell up” and my sister said something like “hey that’s a bad word you can’t be watching that” and then I never watched zackscott ever again
In middle school I'd watch the let's players Slimkirby, darkmindedsith and a few others than high school I really got into the whole group of chuggaaconroy, nintendocaprisun, lucahjin, protonjon, JoshJepson, and such. Especially AttackingTucans tho!!!
His versus with JoshJepson was my life back in high school. I used to mod for Tyler back in 2017/2018 and have actually became kinda friends with Tyler now so my dreams come true I guess.

Dude I can’t believe how many videos you mentioned that I used to watch too. Glitchmaster7 actually started streaming every now and then on Twitch, and sometimes does VTuber dance dance revolution lol. But this was really well made and I think that you managed to get a diverse amount of channels mentioned, and a ton that I haven’t thought of until now too. Awesome video!

You got me going down the rabbit hole that is my browser bookmarks. When i was a kid, i don't think i knew i could make playlists on TH-cam. I did however understand that you could bookmark websites, and so i did for essentially every TH-cam video i thought was cool enough.
Its bringing back memories, gotta say if you ever decide to make a 3rd video about fansongs, you gotta listen to 'i love chickneys', it was iconic to me.
Also rewitnessing probably some of the first ever youtube videos i watched "Caramelldansen - Hedgehog Havoc: Now that's WIKKED!" And "Ultimate Caramelldansen: the Sonic Extravaganza", and honestly i don't think i ever fully forgot them. When i first got into sonic at the age of 4 back in like 2007, my life was changed, like those next 6-7 years of my life were an entire field day for me. I spent probably over 1000 hours on sonic games alone. Honestly probably way more, I think i had like 300 hours on sa2 last time i checked, and then 270 for sa1, and considering i also played sonic colors, unleashed, rush, mega collection, heroes, chronicles the dark brotherhood, secret rings, black knight, generations, riders, both of the allstars racing games, and shadow the hedgehog, not to mention any fangames i played, i'd say ive played over 1000 hours lol. Anyway can you tell i liked (and still do) sonic?
And it was ALSO wild seeing videos i bookmarked after i realized i was a furry back in 2015! Oh lupisvulpes, you were probably my introduction to the furry fandom, but then you were transphobic back in like 2019 or something, and also decided to work on whatever that butch hartman christian television thing was that i dont think is ever coming out and honestly i don't think ive ever seen anyone fall from grace in such a strange and unpitiable way. They still make videos. Emile still makes let's plays daily. Tim and Jon stream now, but Tim uploads on youtube to this day.
I started watching Zackscott in 2013 and he’s still my favourite TH-camr to this day, it’s so sad that he’s not as popular and also what’s going on with Egon right now
funny to see Zackscott i used to enjoy his splatoon 1 videos bc i didn't have a WiiU and a few months ago i got to go against him in splatoon 3 and even made it to his video, it made me so happy to see that he still enjoys making Lets Play videos he was the sole reason why I love splatoon in the first place. I still enjoy many Lets Play TH-camrs and I hope that many will continue making the content they like especially for others like me who are too broke to have all types of games and gets to experience the game along with their favorite content creators. :)

I haven't seen the original video but I've watched Chuggaaconoroy along with several others in his circle that appeared on the group LP channel TheRunawayGuys. I fell off plenty of these channels though and just kinda lost interest.
I also watched SGB which was SomeCallMeJohnny's LP channel that sadly ended in 2020. It sucked because he wanted to have a proper finale for that channel since him and the other people that are part of that channel were all going their separate ways but then the pandemic outright abruptly ended their finale year.
How I viewed Let's Plays is kind of a overly high standard since due to watching Chugga first, I view Let's Plays required to be a video strategy guide and needing to show off and complete absolutely everything in each game
