- Part one in a new series of videos delving into the mysteries of traditional Narrowboat painting. In this video, John details the various methods and tools he uses @JohnbarnardBiz on a regular basis to remove old paint from a cabinside prior to re-painting.

Really useful video. I came on a course just before lockdown kicked in - very useful as I really didn't have any experience with the tools used. We didn't use a scabbler on the course and this is a very demonstration - plus a refresher on the other bits of kit.
Thanks John - it’s so good to see and hear a professional doing what he does best - looking forward to more of the same - I’d be interested to know how long you’d leave the bare steel for before you apply any sort of coating but perhaps that’ll be in a future video - thanks
Don't leave it too long as surface rust will start to appear when the temp drops and you will find yourself wire brushing it all again , I find it best to wipe down the bare steel as soon as it's exposed then carry on with the primer straight away . 👍
Good stuff have you got a link to the course on windows as it is something i would be interested in.
Great work. I’m painting my boat, The paint work is not to bad. My question is do I need to go back to steel or a sanding would be good enough . Thanks
I cant find a metal specific scabbler anywhere, only the contrete ones. Do you have a specific tool name i need to use or a product? Thanks!
Refina are the ones I use they are used for concrete you just need to buy one with c4 teeth which is for paint and coatings give Regina a call and they will guide you
@@JohnbarnardBiz brilliant thanks for the reply
