@@Sekir80 I think it would've been better if it were designed backwards from how it actually was, like the actual roof turbines it's inspired by.
I think it would've worked better if the dome shape was elevated to start outside of the hub.
I think that making fan showdown a weekly show would be perfect. Doesn't saturate the more easily annoyed viewers, while it still provides the more addicted ones with continuous content.

Roof turbines: Architects decided they're ugly, so they switched over to lower-profile "dormer vents".
if just they changed to fan fan fan designs...
Not to mention the Turbine vents can let rain into the attic.
They're everywhere in Australia, we also call them whirlybirds/whirligigs depends on the region
Insulation has also improved significantly to reduce the need for a ventilation fan
@@Sartek That's true about the insulation, but it actually made the need for venting more important, since condensation in the attic doesn't get evaporated away as easily.

I’d recommend releasing these on a once a week or a biweekly basis. Good for the algorithm
The algorithm likes whatever people like. If they watch 4 videos a day, just as numerously as once a week, the algorithm will capitulate.
I think if a fan makes it onto the board we need a little ceremony where the old one gets removed and the new one gets added. Just so we can reminisce on all the fans that made it.

Anyone else impressed about how well ASS did the job it was designed for? Probably the best smoke test performer yet other than the Tulip despite not making it on the board.
6:22 I LOVE the way that fan fan sounds! It strikes a perfect triangle / sawtooth waveform in perfect harmony and I heard 3 distinct pitches from it.

Not really sure how I stumbled on this series (or your channel), but I'm really glad I did. Algorithm did me good.
Not surprised The Fan Fan Fan Fan Fan did so well, it essentially has 12 blades. The F has a single blade, the A has two, and the N has 3. Six blades per side, and perfectly balanced.
Also loved the tri-tone the Fan Fan Fan Fan Fan Fan Fan made.
I look forward to this every week. You could honestly make it its own channel.
I wonder if you can branch out the fan showdown because this viewer made competition thing is really working out for you. I’d really like to see this format introduced for something else that is easily measurable and fun. Throwing out some dumb ideas to get you started, maybe a blender showdown (there are some blenders with removable blades), 3D printed bridge showdown or maybe like a water pump blade showdown. I don’t know haha

Maybe someone already said, but regarding the roof turbine: you're doing it wrong.
It's backward. Wind drives a turbine that draws air up through the dome. In your test, you had air driving down through the dome.
When I was a child, most outhouses at state and federal campgrounds had these things, meant to draw stinky, hot air out of the facility. They were on top of a stack mounted to the roof. They were never intended to draw air down into the building.
@4:11 its because we have all the pvc pipes out the sides of our house cause equipment is more efficient!

Roof vents work two ways.
When the breeze moves the fan, it creates vacuum
&
When heat rises, it spins the fan which then pulls vacuum.

well by having "fan" written on it, you have more fan to move air, keeping the system cooler
The funny thing about the Fan Fan is that while it was made jokingly, the circular concentric walls help to trap air that would otherwise centrifugally be lost out beyond the edges, and makes it a surprisingly effective design.

Also a flow simulation channel testing the designs and then you printing them to have the satisfying visuals and sounds.
I mean, I like all the fan showdowns, but almost everyone commenting on this video will be the people who actively chose to watch the fan showdowns for 3 weeks strait, so it may not be the most unbiased polling.

I'll watch every single fan showdown, I'm not even kidding. I subscribed to your channel because of the showdowns, it's an excellent format. I'd be even curious for any other kind of 3D printed showdown in the same format (and other means of testing depending on the part). It's like a more streamlined Robot Wars. Print Wars.
How the roof vent works is heat rises through the vent, which pushes the turbine, causing it to rotate. The rotation of the turbine pushes the air out radially, like a blower fan. The blown air further pulls more air from the attic, causing it to spin faster (to a point).
Never enough, I could watch one of these every day and still want more!

Nice shirt. Enjoy the fan show downs, keep em coming. It would be an interesting metric to sort the fans into case fans and high static pressure fans. I do realize that it's complicated to get good static pressure readings though
to inform you on the roof vent thing, Basically, They are "part of" an attic ventilation system that is made largely irrelevant by powered systems most newer houses have. You can still totally buy them and install them though. No idea why you don't see them on sheds and the like more, what with the "not needing any power" thing.

The roof turbines were found to be much less efficient than ridge vents as they left hot spots and uneven cooling. The ridge vent gives a laminar air flow that draws fresh air from the soffit vents and pulls it along the bottom of the roof all the way to the top. This not only cools the roof, but it also dries the under layment in humid environments or at times when the roof is seeing condensation.
I can't get enough fan showdown. It's such a simple concept and I don't know why but I could watch it all day.
One thing I'd love to see tested is if removing the cutouts from the center hub lowers/changes the sound profile of a fan. The "fan fan" fan has an annoying sound and it's possible that having a smooth or curved hub could have a noticeable effect.

The act of heat rising out of your attic is what makes your "roof turbines" spin. Just like a fire carrys away ash straight up into the air.
A turban roof fan uses the hot air escaping from the attic to turn the blades, and as such hinders the escaping air. A simple hole in the roof is more efficient, which is why continuous ridge and eve vents are used today.
These fan showdowns always capture my attention!
