    Excellent content-thank you for the great info. I have a 95 SR that I bought new from Tim’s Mitsubishi in Prescott in 1995. I still drive it every day and I love it!

      Not much about the '92-'93 at all. In addition to the RS there was a base model with a very limited range of options and with items like wind-up windows. They also sold mostly in solid colors without clearcoat that held up a lot better than the metallics. 3.0 12-valve (150 hp) is fine for most backroads work.

      I have seen more than a couple Mitsubishis that came from that dealership (I live in Apache Junction, AZ).

    Great video. One point to clarify: the crankshaft bolt design was updated to eliminate problems with the bolt breaking off in the crankshaft, not backing out. If the crankshaft bolt works loose then it’s because the last person to do the timing belt service didn’t get it tightened properly.

      Interesting.. I’ve always hear people talk about theirs baking out, but I suppose both are an issue worth fixing!

    Thanks for the excellent vid. I'm in South Africa and have a 2000 Gen2.5 with a 3.5 24DOHC. It came factory with the rear locker. Awesome car. Quite a thirsty beast though.

    Great video! I didn’t know about the mirror adjustment screw.

    • @JohnnyBfromPeoria
      @JohnnyBfromPeoria 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That may not be all it needs (usually isn't). I've always had to remove the mirror from the vehicle, remove that screw and take out the actual mirror glass. On the back of the mirror, there are two little hangers that hook over hooks in the frame when assembled. Those may well be broken. I use a hot glue gun to remedy that, quickly reassembling the mirror into the frame while the glue is still soft and then put the screw back in. No more wobbling.

      Sounds like you lost a timing belt.

    97 4M40 Diesel owner.
    No timing belt, turbo for elevation, 4.9, and 5 speed manual is why I went with one.
    They are also typically a lot lower mileage and better taken care of because they are coming from Japan.

    Most tensioners prematurely fail due to improperly setting the preload. You need to follow the final measurement inspection for the tensioner after rotating the motor twice. If it does not extend 5mm from fully retracted, it is over-tightened and can fail early. Super easy to do and I see most do it when they post pics of broken tensioner tools.

      @montanamontero  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    One thing to keep an eye out in the US is the 2000 model looks just like the 98 & 99 but usually has the endeavor badge on the fender by the Montero badge and is a little different.
    I’ve found several 2000 winter packages that don’t have the rear locker. If you want the locker, double check 2000 models for the locker.

    We love Mitsubishi and it's pajero, my brother own delica, my father own gen1 me the youngest son bought 1995 montero last week. And I love riding it. The sound and look is Head turner, the good thing about pajero the design never gets old and even copying by Rubicon and keeps the circular headlights. That's why it's impossible the pajeros gonna get old by design. The only problem with my montero is gulp gasoline alot like I'm driving 3 vehicles.

    Love your channel and have been watching since you first appeared. I have a blue '95 SR (twin to the Hooptero) that I've owned for over 20 years. I still have the original adjustable shocks with about 115K miles on them (surprisingly still seem good) and I don't want to lose adjustability when I replace. I noticed you have the Koni's on there but in doing my own research I could never confirm with anyone if the xx56 and xxx57 were actually drop-in replacements for the old ones (reusing the actuators, of course). It looks like you got them to work? **EDIT** Actually I read the product description on the Koni's and I guess they're only adjustable off the truck, yes? Regardless, perhaps a video on the adjustable shocks, shock options, shock related tom-foolery would be good content? Thanks!

      @@car1916 Ah sorry I didn't see this earlier. Mine has been decent although came with a few issues normal for a 20 year old car. A lot of the bushings needed replacing, gearbox mounts, radiator was leaking, timing belt etc. Other than that it's all good. did you end up buying it?

    Hey brian a few things:
    94' being a changeover year, could also come with the 12v which is non interference. That said, they werent common...mainly early production months.
    Also, the sunroof came standard on the SR ...the LS it was optional and not common, until 97'.
    Dead tach can also be a failing PTU.
    The 94-96 LS could also be optioned with ABS.
    The 97 had the 2.5 interior (including heated seats) and powetrain.
    Heated seats could be found in late month production 96'
    Also, i think its time to flush your brake fluid 😁

I have the aitozone app and noticed they actualy added puerto ricp vertion on the options so I can find the right parta for it, before that I had to look for a 96 year model to find the right parta there...

    I have a 2000 Montero. Imported from Puerto Rico. I’m going to assume that it’s a built to market product imported from Japan to PR. It appears to be a based model, cloth, auto, no leather or sun roof with jump seats in the back. If you have anymore info on the Puerto Rico versions, please let me know thanks!
